Prithvi Shaw hit me, claims social media influencer arrested in selfie fight case

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Social media influencer Sapna Gill, arrested for allegedly manhandling Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw over clicking of selfies, claimed before a court here on Friday that it was he who hit her.

Shaw even apologized to her and asked not to file a police complaint, she said.

Gill, arrested on Thursday, was produced before a magistrate’s court here on Friday. The court remanded her in police custody till February 20.

The incident took place outside a luxury hotel in suburban Santacruz on Wednesday during an argument between Shaw on one side and the social media influencer and her male friend on the other after the cricketer refused to click selfies with her.

During the remand hearing, Gill requested that she be allowed to put forward her version of the incident, which the magistrate allowed.

All the allegations against her were false, Gill said, adding, “He (Shaw) hit me on the chest and arms.”

“We were there just to take help of police. They were eight to ten people and we were just two,” Gill said.

Further, the influencer claimed that Shaw and his friend asked her not to file a police complaint, said sorry, and left.

On the claim that the incident took place after she asked for a selfie with Shaw, Gill said, “I do not know him, nor I have ever seen him. I never asked for a selfie with him.”

Gill also denied the allegation that she had asked for Rs 50,000 to settle the case.

“He was totally drunk. He was in front of a police station, he could have filed the FIR then only,” the influencer said. But since Shaw was drunk, he thought of doing that later, Gill claimed.

As per Gill, she and her friend were partying at the VIP lounge of the hotel before Shaw arrived.

Shaw had gone to the hotel, located near the domestic airport, for dinner with his businessman friend when the sequence of events unfolded.

The police complaint was lodged by Shaw’s friend and flatmate Ashish Yadav who runs a cafe.

Thakur and Gill approached Shaw for a selfie at the hotel and initially the cricketer obliged them, said the complaint.

But they insisted on clicking more selfies and Shaw refused, Yadav told police.

Gill and Thakur, who were in an inebriated condition, then started arguing with Shaw, the complaint said. The hotel manager asked Gill and Thakur to leave, it added.

Later, when Shaw and Yadav were leaving the hotel after dinner, they saw Thakur holding a baseball bat in hand. After they sat in their car, the accused attacked the windshield of the vehicle with the baseball bat, the complaint said.

Shaw was also allegedly manhandled by Gill. Sensing more trouble, the cricketer was shifted to another car while Yadav and others drove his vehicle to Oshiwara, he said.

Yadav saw three motorcycles and a white-coloured car chasing their vehicle. Around 4 am, those following him attacked his car when it was taking a U-turn near a petrol pump on Link Road. Thakur, who was one of them, broke the rear windshield of the car with the baseball bat, he alleged.

Based Yadav’s complaint, the Oshiwara police registered a First Information Report against Gill and seven others under Indian Penal Code sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting), 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and others offences.

An argument over selfies swiftly escalated into a brawl with a baseball bat and a vehicle pursuit in Mumbai for cricketer Prithvi Shaw.

In the police investigation, eight persons are accused of charging at Shaw and his friend, shattering the glass of their car, and demanding Rs 50,000.

The accused, Shobhit Thakur and Sana or Sapna Gill, have denied the allegations and accused Shaw of attacking them first.

According to Shaw’s friend’s accusation, the brawl started in the early hours of Wednesday at a fancy hotel near the Mumbai airport after two admirers – a guy and a woman – approached the cricketer for photos.

As they refused to back down and wanted more photos, Shaw phoned a friend and the hotel management to have the fans removed.

After being ejected out, the supporters waited outside for Prithvi and, together with a few others armed with baseball bats, swarmed Shaw, the complaint alleged.

As Shaw and his buddy fled, they pursued the car, caught it at a traffic signal near Oshiwara, and cracked the windscreen, according to several media reports.

According to Shaw’s buddy, they also wanted Rs 50,000 and threatened to file a bogus police report.

Others mentioned in the complaint, however, have denied the claims.

In an interview with the media, Sapna Gill’s counsel, Ali Kashif Khan, said that Prithvi Shaw attacked her.

Gill’s companion videotaped her battling with Shaw, who was brandishing a broken baseball bat.

  • Nothing says ‘We are an item’ like a naked selfie – just ask Eric André and Emily Ratajkowski

Nothing says ‘We are an item’ like a naked selfie – just ask Eric André and Emily Ratajkowski

    [ad_1]

    Name: Couple launch.

Age: May have its roots in the early days of Facebook’s “relationship status” option.

Appearance: A big reveal, in more ways than one.

What, like an engagement notice? This is before that, as soon as you want to spread the news that you have coupled up.

In other words, way too soon. Generally, yes.

What form does it take? The release of two doves? A public exchange of house keys? An announcement over the Tannoy at a local sporting event? Posting naked selfies on Instagram.

That seems a bit extreme. Not if you’re a celebrity. The comedian Eric André and the actor/model Emily Ratajkowski exposed their relationship – and themselves – in a pic posted on Valentine’s Day.

What of? André sprawled naked on a sofa, clothes strewn across the floor, his modesty preserved by a heart emoji with an arrow through it.

And Ratajkowski took the photo? Definitely. She is visible in the mirror behind him, holding up her phone, also naked (save for a bra).

Which implies they must have … um … It’s OK, they want you to know.

How long have they been going out? If that is what we can glean from this Instagram post, not long. Ratajkowski only announced her split from the comedian Pete Davidson in December.

At this stage, it seems like oversharing. In terms of making a relationship “Instagram official”, it is what is known as a “hard launch”.

But you said it was covered by an emoji! It’s just an expression.

Is there no less confrontational way to declare your status these days? There is the formerly fashionable “soft launch” – for example, Kourtney Kardashian revealed her relationship with the musician Travis Barker two years ago by posting a photo of their intertwined hands.

That seems a bit coy. It wasn’t so much a couple launch as the start of a sustained couple campaign – exhaustively catalogued – culminating in a wedding last May.

Any other options? How about ink? Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez reconfirmed their commitment this Valentine’s Day with pics of their new tattoos – hers with the protective clingfilm still on, so you knew it was fresh.

But aren’t Ben and Jennifer locked in the gravitational pull of some endless on-again-off-again nightmare? Exactly: theirs is a coupledom that forever needs relaunching.

Quick question: if I’m not a celebrity, do I have to do any of this stuff? No. No one cares.

Do say: “I give it six months.”

Don’t say: “Can’t we at least wait till I’ve had my ex’s name removed from my buttock?”
