DCW’s surprise inspection leads to seizure of 50 lt acid from public toilet in Delhi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: In a surprise inspection conducted by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) led by its chief Swati Maliwal, officials have seized around 50 litres of acid from a public toilet located opposite the G.B. Pant Hospital in central Delhi.

The operation was carried out on Thursday and the officials confirmed the seizure of the acid on Friday.

Maliwal has now asked the concerned officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to appear before the commission on April 11 with a detailed report on the matter.

“I was shocked to discover huge quantities of acid kept in the open at a public toilet in Delhi. It could have been used by people for criminal activities. The fact that acid is being used in public toilets for cleaning purposes on a large scale is unacceptable and shameful,” said Maliwal.

“Strict action should be taken against the authorities for encouraging the use of acid for cleaning in toilets. Also, there should be no fee for using public toilets. All the toilets should be functional at all times, and if any toilet is non-functional, strict action should be taken against the official(s) responsible for it,” she added.

During the inspection on Thursday, the commission had noticed that Rs 10 was being charged from the users each time they used the toilet.

“The commission was also informed that the toilet closes down at 10 p.m., rendering women and girls vulnerable to open defecation,” said a DCW official.

  • Delhi HC adjourns hearing on Asiya Andrabi’s plea against property seizure

Delhi HC adjourns hearing on Asiya Andrabi’s plea against property seizure

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday adjourned hearing on the pleas by two Kashmiri separatists Sofi Fehmeeda and Asiya Andrabi against National Investigation Agency (NIA) for seizure of their car and house in Jammu and Srinagar cities, respectively.

On the request of the counsel for appellants, the court adjourned the matter for April 26.

Last year, the agency had opposed the appeal moved by Andrabi and others, saying it was established that premises have been used by the Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM)for holding meetings to commit unlawful activities and terrorist activities.

Andrabi is the chief of banned terrorist outfit DeM, which advocates violent secession of Jammu and Kashmir from India.

In 2019, the NIA issued attachments orders for the seizure of Andrabi’s house and her associate Fehmeeda’s car, alleging that these properties were proceeds of terrorism and were used to further terrorist activities.

Andrabi has been charged with violating the provisions of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

On directions of the Union Home Ministry, the NIA registered a case against them and the organisation.

  • Mundra Port Narcotics Seizure Case: NIA files 2nd Supplementary charge sheet

Mundra Port Narcotics Seizure Case: NIA files 2nd Supplementary charge sheet

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed its second supplementary charge sheet before a special court in Ahmedabad in connection with a case pertaining to seizure of 2988.210 Kgs of heroin at Mundra Port, Gujarat.

According to an official, the said consignment was sent from Afghanistan via Bandar Abbas, Iran.

Initially, the case was registered by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and later, the probe was taken over by the NIA on October 6, 2021.

In March 2022, the NIA filed a charge sheet against 16 accused. After this, a supplementary charge sheet was filed against nine accused in August 2022.

The second supplementary charge sheet was filed against 22 accused which included private firms too.

“During further investigation, it was found that there is an organised criminal conspiracy to smuggle illegal consignments of heroin through international trade routes to India from Afghanistan, hatched by the accused. While investigating forward and backward linkages of the crime, a well-oiled network of operatives involved in the import, facilitation and transport of drug laden consignments has been uncovered.

“It has also been revealed that consignments were being imported through multiple fake/shell import proprietorship firms floated in India through multiple accused,” the NIA said.

Prime accused Harpreet Singh Talwar alias Kabir Talwar visited Dubai, UAE on multiple occasions and wilfully participated in the conspiracy for exploiting the commercial sea-route of import, in order to smuggle heroin into India in commercial quantities.

Talwar was running multiple trades in New Delhi, like clubs, retail showrooms and import firms. These firms are opened by Kabir Talwar in the names of his employees, relatives and friends, which are solely operated by him. These firms were used for importing narcotics, banned items and receiving remittances in the form of legitimate goods in lieu of his role in the smuggling cartel, the NIA said.

Over a dozen such firms have been identified and investigated, including the charge-sheeted firm, M/s Magent India. This company was used to import and receive heroin disguised as semi-processed talc stone from Afghanistan to India.

Investigations revealed that an organised network of syndicate members was being run by foreign based narcotic traders for importing the heroin laden consignments into Indian Ports (Mundra, Kolkata) and its further delivery to various warehouses located at New Delhi.

The India based network of Afghan nationals was responsible for hiring these warehouses and for extracting and distributing the heroin once it reached New Delhi.

“Investigation established that funds generated through the sale proceeds of heroin were provided to operatives of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for furtherance of terrorist activities in India,” said the NIA.

Further investigations in the matter are on.
