    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The fire at the Swapnalok Complex in Secunderabad occurred due to a short circuit and the fifth floor suffered extensive damage, the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services officials found during their preliminary investigation.

“The corridor on the fifth floor was occupied with cardboard and other combustible material helping the fire spread rapidly. The electric ducts were covered with wooden doors as against required fire doors,” said the fire department officials.

During the inspection of the Swapnalok complex in Secunderabad done recently, the management was advised to rectify the deficits but they failed to comply, the officials pointed out.

Six persons died due to asphyxiation after getting stuck in an office on the fifth floor of the building. The deceased are V Shiva, 22, Triveni, 22, Vennela, 22, K Prameela, 22, B Shravani, 22 and Prashant, 23. The firefighters rescued 12 people using sky lifts.

Challenges to douse Swapnalok Complex fire:

Firemen faced a lot of problems while battling the fire as the available firefighting equipment was not in working condition, the door leading to the external staircase was locked and the firefighters had to break it open. The external staircase was filled with waste articles and debris. The setbacks at the building were used as vehicle parking leading to hindrance for the movement of the Bronto Sky Lift.

The fire department advised the owners of buildings to install fire fighting measures as per the national building code applicable to the type of building and occupation.

The fire fighting systems should be maintained periodically and checked daily if necessary. The larger business complexes or establishments should appoint fire safety officers with similar terms of security staff to take care of the fire safety systems and implement fire safety drills.

The department asked the building occupants to keep clear escape routes free of waste material. It asked the owners to ensure the setback areas are kept free of vehicles to allow firemen to work in case of a fire mishap.

The department said that after the Deccan Mall fire accident at Minister Road, a joint inspection was done of 1150 buildings and Greater Hyderabad and notices were issued to rectify deficiencies in fire safety norms.

Another 650 hazardous premises including industries, chemical godowns, scrap godowns and other hazardous premises was done in Cyberabad.

Authorities gear up to raze Secunderabad building gutted in fire

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Municipal authorities in Hyderabad are gearing up to demolish six-storeyed commercial building which was gutted in a huge fire last week while rescue workers have still not found any remains of two missing persons.

Nearly a week after the fire incident, the rescue workers continued to look for remains of the missing persons in the huge rubble.

Skeletal remains of one person were found on January 21 and the same were preserved at Gandhi Hospital for DNA analysis.

Three workers Waseem, Zaheer and Junaid were reported missing after a huge fire broke out in the building. Some survivors said the three persons had gone to collect their belongings but were trapped.

A massive fire broke out on January 19 in the building housing the garment store at Nallagutta on Minister Road in Secunderabad.

Two fire service officers were injured while trying to douse the fire, which raged for almost two days.

After the fire, the building’s structural strength has been severely compromised. With experts advising for demolishing the building, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated the process.

The municipal body has called for bids to pull down the building. It issued a tender notice on an emergency basis with Wednesday as the deadline to submit the bids.

GHMC wants the interested party to use the latest technology in pulling down the structure to avoid collateral damage to adjoining structures. The tender value has been fixed at Rs 33.86 lakh for demolition of 1,890 square metres structure, transport of debris and exercise of safety precautions.

According to officials, GHMC will charge the owner with the cost of demolition. The owner had constructed two upper floors without permission and no firefighting equipment was installed inside.

Secunderabad fire: Building to be demolished amid search for remains of 2 men

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Municipal authorities in Hyderabad have decided to demolish the six storeyed building which was gutted in a huge fire three days ago while the search continued on Sunday for remains of two missing persons.

For the fourth day rescue workers continued their operation to trace the remains of two men in the rubble at the commercial building at Nallagutta on Ministers Road in Secunderabad.

Skeletal remains of one person were found on Saturday and the same were preserved at Gandhi Hospital for DNA analysis.

Three workers Waseem, Zaheer and Junaid were reported missing after the huge fire broke out in the building. Some survivors said the three persons had gone to collect their belongings but were trapped.

Two fire service officers were injured while trying to douse the fire on Thursday. It took eight hours for the fire to be brought under control. As many as 23 fire tenders from various fire stations in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad were pressed into service.

With smoke still emanating from some parts of the building and small fires getting reignited due to inflammable material, the personnel of Disaster Response Force (DRF) and fire services were moving cautiously.

The rescue teams were using drone cameras to collect the footage from different floors and accordingly plan their operation.

The massive fire, which broke out on January 19 and raged for over eight hours, has weakened the structure and experts have warned that it may collapse any time.

The officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have decided to demolish the structure. However, they made it clear that they will wait till the remains of two missing workers are traced.

Massive debris and huge amounts of inflammable material has made the task of rescue workers difficult.

Officials said the latest technology will be used to demolish the building and all precautions will be taken to ensure that the adjoining buildings are not damaged.

GHMC Town Planning wing has placed caution notice outside the building warning people not to come closer to it.

The notice states that the building is in dangerous and hazardous condition. The owners and inmates of the building have already been asked to vacate immediately as it is likely to collapse at any moment.

The adjoining buildings have also been vacated as a precautionary measure.
