Qazigund, May 08: The Northern Railways is likely to expand the existing 135 kilometre long Banihal-Baramulla railway track in Jammu and Kashmir into a double track. For this, tenders for carrying out a survey have been allocated by the Central government.

Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Chief Area Manager (CAM) Kashmir Railways, Saqib Yousuf said the Ministry of Railways has invited tenders to start Final Location Survey (FLS) for double lanning of Baramulla-Qazigund section.

“Tenders have been issued for the engineering survey of the Railway line/roadway using modern survey techniques such as Aerial Survey (Aerial Photogrammetric survey or Aerial LiDAR) and DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System)”, he said. There is a single-track line from Baramulla to Qazigund and the project, if approved will double the capacity of the Railways.

CAM said that after the proposed survey, the capacity of the trains and the number of the trains will increase tremendously. “The capacity of the trains will be doubled,” he said. He said the work is expected to start soon.

Asked if fresh land was being allocated for the project, Saqib said, only after the survey gets completed, it is the Railways that will determine whether additional land is required for the project—(KNO)

MP: Tension in Khandwa as 3 injured in stone pelting; Section 144 imposed

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: At least three people were reportedly injured after communal tension broke out in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa, around 260 km from state capital Bhopal, late on Sunday.

According to the police, the tension prevailed after a group of Muslim youths thrashed a group of students (both Hindu and Muslim) while they were celebrating a birthday party at a restaurant late on Sunday.

The Khandwa district administration has imposed Section 144 and a heavy police force has been deployed in the area. “The situation is under control, police are marching in the area,” Khandwa SP Satendra Shukla told the press.

    MS Education Academy

Police said the tension erupted after four Muslim youths thrashed a Muslim girl, a school lab teacher and a Hindu male student for celebrating a birthday in a restaurant on Sunday afternoon. The accused also took away the teacher and Hindu student with them.

Later in mid-night, a large number of people from the Muslim community led by corporator Ashfaq Sigad reached Moghat police station and Lal Chowk. They pelted stones at police accusing them of being biased in action.

Police said that an FIR has been registered based on a complaint from the girl, who alleged that she was kidnapped and assaulted. Police claimed two accused were arrested, while two were still on the run.

On Monday, right-wing organisations also staged a protest, which prompted the administration to impose Section 144 in the area. This fresh round of communal tension in Madhya Pradesh was witnessed just one year after a massive riot broke out on April 10 last year in Khargone.

Instagram Reels adds dedicated trends section for creators

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Meta-owned Instagram has announced new features on its short-video making app to empower creators.

The social network has added a dedicated destination for trending audio and hashtags, two new metrics to Reels insights and brought gifts on Reels to more countries.

Creators will now be able to see what the top trending topics and hashtags are on Reels.

    MS Education Academy

“We’re making it easier for you to edit your reels on Instagram by bringing together video clips, audio, stickers, and text on a unified editing screen,” said Meta.

This makes it easier to align and time elements of your reel to the right moments in a more visual way.

This feature is available globally, across both iOS and Android devices.

The two new metrics being added on Reels are total watch time and average watch time.

“Total watch time captures the total amount of time your reel was played, including any time spent replaying the reel. Average watch time captures the average amount of time spent playing your reel, calculated by dividing watch time with the number of total plays,” explained the company.

For example if your average watch time is 17 seconds, out of everyone who watched your Reel they watched an average of 17 seconds.

This will help creators better understand where people are being engaged or where you may need to create a stronger hook to have viewers stay longer.

“We’re also adding a new way to see how your reels are contributing to your growth. You’ll now receive a notification with new followers from your reels,” the company mentioned.

The company is also adding a new feature to show creators which fans have sent them a gift, so they can recognise their supporters.

Clash in Jamshedpur over desecration’ of religious flag; Section 144 clamped

    [ad_1]

Jamshedpur: Alleged desecration of a religious flag led to brick-batting between two groups and arson at Shastrinagar in Jamshedpur, prompting the authorities to impose Prohibitory Orders under Section 144 of CrPC in the locality on Sunday evening, an official said.

While six people were injured in stone-throwing, two shops and an auto-rickshaw were set ablaze by the warring groups and the police fired tear gas shells to disperse the mob, he said.

An adequate police force has been deployed in Shastrinagar under Kadma police station in Jharkhand to maintain law and order.

    MS Education Academy

“Prohibitory Orders under Section 144 of CrPC were clamped in the area,” said Sub-Divisional Officer (Dhalbhum), Piyush Sinha.

Tension has been brewing in the area since Saturday night when members of a local organisation found that a piece of meat was tagged to a Ram Navami flag, police said.

Several such organisations protested and demanded that the police arrest the culprits within 24 hours.

The situation turned violent on Sunday evening when a shop was gutted leading to brick-batting from both sides injuring six people.

A mob also set on fire an autorickshaw, forcing the police to fire tear gas shells.

DIG (Kolhan) Ajay Linda said that the shops and the auto-rickshaw were set ablaze by local miscreants.

  • Kolkata: Section 144 CrPC imposed after fresh unrest in Howrah

Kolkata: Section 144 CrPC imposed after fresh unrest in Howrah

    [ad_1]

Howrah: After fresh unrest was reported in Howrah’s Kazipara area which witnessed violence over the Ram Navami procession on Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose over the issue.

Bose and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also reviewed the situation on Friday, a Raj Bhavan statement said.

The governor also said those who resort to violence under the illusion that they can hoodwink the people will soon realise they are in a fool’s paradise.

“There will be effective and concerted action to book the culprits and bring them before the law. Setting fire to public property, that too on the sacred Ram Navami day, is a highly provocative act and will be viewed seriously,” he said.

Raj Bhavan will keep its eyes and ears open to ensure protection to the life, property and dignity of the common man, Bose said.

During the telephonic conversation with Bose, the union home minister sought to know the prevailing situation in the state, particularly in the violence-hit areas of Howrah.

The governor is believed to have provided the home minister details about Thursday’s violence and the present situation, sources said in New Delhi.

As unidentified people on police personnel on Friday afternoon, the police used batons to disperse a group of people who had gathered there.

At least three policemen were injured in the brick batting.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC were imposed in Kazipara area, a senior IPS officer told PTI.

Altogether 45 people were arrested in connection with the violence since Thursday.

“The situation was calm and peaceful until this afternoon. After that, police personnel were pelted with stones which sparked tension in the area. Some people were arrested as our officers reacted instantly,” he said.

A huge team of Rapid Action Force (RAF) from Kolkata Police was brought into the area on Friday afternoon. The personnel started a route march following the stone-throwing incidents.

Earlier in the day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the BJP along with other right-wing organisations was responsible for Thursday’s violence in Howrah.

She appealed to people to maintain peace in the area.

“The Howrah incident is very unfortunate. Neither Hindus nor Muslims were behind the violence in Howrah. The BJP along with Bajrang Dal and other such organisations were involved in the violence with arms,” Banerjee told Bengali television news channel ABP Ananda.

The state government will help all whose properties were vandalised in the clashes, she said.

Violence broke out on Thursday evening between two groups when a Ram Navami procession was taken out in the twin city of Howrah. Several vehicles, including some belonging to the police, were torched and shops and auto-rickshaws ransacked during the violence.

Claiming that there was laxity in a section of the administration, she said strict action would be taken against those involved in the clash.

A large police contingent was deployed to restore peace in the locality.

Whatsapp rolling out ‘Groups in common’ section within search bar on beta

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature for some beta testers on Android and iOS which allows users to see a list of groups they have in common with the contact they are searching for.

Beta users will see a new ‘Groups in common’ section when searching for contacts within the search bar, reports WABetaInfo.

The new feature gives users more information when searching for contacts within the search bar.

It is currently available for some testers, and is expected to be rolled out to more users over the coming days, the report said.

This feature is the same as the one rolled out on WhatsApp Desktop, which allows users to see the groups they have in common with their contacts without opening their chat information to see the list of groups in common.

Meanwhile, last week, it was reported that the messaging platform was rolling out a new “approve new participants” feature in group settings for some beta testers on Android and iOS.
