Jammu and Kashmir Gets 20 More DNB Seats In GMCs, DHs

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: As a step towards strengthening Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Jammu and Kashmir, 20 more seats have been sanctioned by National Board of Examinations in Medical Science (NBEMS) under DNB for the institutions of JK during the start of the Session 2023.

These seats shall be in addition to the earlier granted DNB seats.

As per official data , Government Medical College Srinagar received approval for two seats in FNB Paediatric Anesthesia, JLNM Hospital, Srinagar received 3 Post MBBS DNB seats in General Surgery, DH Udhampur received sanction of 5 seats under Pediatrics, General Medicine and Orthopedics DH Poonch received 2 seats in General Medicine DH Ganderbal got sanction for 2 seats each in DNB General Medicine and Diploma Pediatrics, DH Kulgam received 2 seats in Family Medicine while CHC Kupwara got 2 seats in Diploma Pediatrics.

Mission Director, NHM, JK, Ayushi Sudan, while giving details about the development said that implementation of the DNB courses at the District Level in JK has been termed as a best practice in the Country. Under DNB programme in the UT, a total of 250 seats were granted to the accredited departments during Session 2022 consequent to the concerted efforts and hard work of the administrative department H&ME J&K, NHM J&K and the team of health institutions being monitored by Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Bhupinder Kumar.

“All the efforts are being made to scale up the DNB courses in all the District Hospitals and potential CHCs of JK. During upcoming session, JK is planning to submit more than 30 applications including almost all District Hospitals”, she added.

Pertinent to mention that the DNB courses have been introduced in the District Hospitals and new Government Medical Colleges besides old GMCs and SKIMS in order to strengthen the institutions, decongest the GMCs and to address the shortage of specialists in the UT of JK.

Implementation of DNB courses has led to an equitable distribution of health care services and manpower especially in far flung and hard to reach areas. This has also proved beneficial for the population who have very meager access to health care services in their areas, leading to low referrals from DNB institutions to Tertiary care institutions thereby further decreasing the Out of Pocket Expenditure (OOPE) of patients. AAP to contest polls in all 230 assembly seats in MP: Kejriwal

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that his party will contest the upcoming assembly elections in all 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh.

Kejriwal made this announcement while addressing a large gathering of AAP workers in Bhopal. Kejriwal along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was on their maiden visit ahead of the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh due later this year.

While addressing the gathering of party workers and people who came from different parts of Madhya Pradesh, especially from tribal areas, Kejriwal tried to convince them highlighting his ‘Delhi model’ freebies.

He promised that the people of Madhya Pradesh too will find better government schools for their children, health infrastructures will be developed in Delhi’s model and also cheaper electricity, if AAP forms government.

Meanwhile, he also claimed that winning of Singrauli mayoral seat was just a trailer, and the AAP will show a real picture after winning assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh.

“People of Madhya Pradesh want to say goodby to ‘mama’ (CM Shivraj) and they had done it in 2018, but the Congress MLAs were sold and BJP was back into power again. It means, even if you vote to Congress, the BJP will form the government. It is only AAP which can change this corrupt political system of Madhya Pradesh,” Kejriwal added.

Notably, two months back Kejriwal had dissolved the entire team of Madhya Pradesh and fresh appointments were made.

The AAP claimed to give a big setback to both the BJP and the Congress in Madhya Pradesh in upcoming assembly elections, reiterating that people want change here.

  • ED searches at 10 places in Kashmir in case linked to selling MBBS seats in Pakistan

ED searches at 10 places in Kashmir in case linked to selling MBBS seats in Pakistan

    [ad_1]

Srinagar: The Enforcement Directorate has carried out searches at 10 places across four districts in the Kashmir valley as part of its ongoing probe against conspirators involved in arranging admissions for money in various courses, including MBBS in Pakistan, to fund terror activities, an official said.

The ED’s Srinagar Zonal office carried out the search recently under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) at 10 locations in Srinagar, Budgam, Kupwara and Anantnag districts, the official said.

He said the raids were conducted in respect of an investigation relating to the involvement of conspirators who were hand-in-glove with some educational consultancies and manipulating or arranging admission of J-K students in various professional courses, including MBBS in Pakistan-based colleges, institutions and universities.

In May last year, a special NIA court had framed charges against eight persons, including arrested Hurriyat leader Mohammad Akbar Bhat alias “Zaffar Bhat” for selling Pakistani MBBS seats in Jammu and Kashmir to fund terror activities.

The case was registered against the “unscrupulous persons” by the State Investigation Agency (SIA) on July 27, 2020.

The official said the ED initiated probe on the basis of the FIR registered under various sections of UA(P) Act and the Indian Penal Code, and chargesheet filed by counter-intelligence Kashmir, Srinagar, against various accused, including Bhat, Fatima Shah, Altaf Ahmad Bhat, Qazi Yasir, Mohd Abdullah Shah, Sabzar Ahmad Sheikh, Manzoor Ahmad Shah, Mohd Iqbal Mir and Syed Khalid Geelani alias Khalid Andrabi, for their involvement in accumulating funds for terror activities on the pretext of admission of J-K students in various professional courses in Pakistan-based institutions.

“PMLA investigation has also revealed that many times, these admissions are actually part of the Technical Assistance Programme (TAP) and are offered to foreign students either free or at nominal charges on an annual basis.

“However, hefty charges were being levied on the students and the extra money so earned, was ploughed into supporting terrorism in myriad ways on the instructions of Pakistan-based handlers as well as those sitting in Jammu and Kashmir,” the official said.

As of now, the official said proceeds of crime to the tune of about Rs 1 crore have been determined and six people have been identified who had been admitted to various institutions in Pakistan by such elements.

“During the course of search operations, documents related to immovable properties and highly incriminating material, including digital devices related to the scam, have been recovered and seized,” the official said, adding further investigation is in progress.

  • Meghalaya polls: NPP emerges single-largest party with 26 seats

Meghalaya polls: NPP emerges single-largest party with 26 seats

    [ad_1]

Shillong: The ruling National People’s Party (NPP) in Meghalaya emerged as the single-largest party in the state on Thursday, clinching 26 seats out of the 59 constituencies that went to polls on February 27, the Election Commission said.

However, it fell short of gaining a majority in the 60-member assembly, even as Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad K Sangma sought the support of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in forming the new government.

The BJP, which had brought star campaigners, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party chief J P Nadda and Shah, managed to win only two seats.

The United Democratic Party (UDP), which was NPP’s ally in the Sangma government, emerged the second-largest party, winning 11 constituencies. It had won only six seats in the 2018 polls.

The Congress and the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC won five seats each.

The newly formed Voice of the People Party (VPP) won four seats, while the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), the People’s Democratic Front won two seats each. Two Independent candidates also emerged victorious.

Sangma won from the South Tura seat by a margin of 5,016 votes, while his deputy Prestone Tynsong won the Pynursla seat by 8,140 votes, the EC data showed.

“I thank the people of our state for having voted for our party. We are grateful to them. We are still short of the numbers and will decide on the way forward later,” the CM said.

His Assam counterpart said Nadda has advised the Meghalaya unit of the BJP to support the NPP when it forms the next government in the state.

“Sri @SangmaConrad , Chief Minister of Meghalaya, called @AmitShah ji, Hon’ble Home Minister, and sought his support and blessings in forming the new Government,” Sarma tweeted.

“Adaraniya Sri @JPNadda ji , the national president of the @BJP4India has advised the state unit of BJP, Meghalaya to support the National People’s Party in forming the next government in Meghalaya,” the Assam CM added.

NPP spokesperson Ampareen Lyngdoh said the ruling party will have to seek the support of others to return to power for the second consecutive term.

Tynsong, after his victory was announced, told PTI, “In Meghalaya politics, individual candidates matter more than the party. It is the nominees who win the elections, not the party.”

“We expected to cross the magic number on our own, but did not foresee such a divided mandate,” he said.

Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma of the TMC won the Songsak seat by a margin of 507 votes, but lost the Tikrikilla constituency to NPP’s J D Sangma by 5,313 votes, according to the EC data.

State Congress president and MP Vincent H Pala lost to NPP’s Santa Mary Shylla by 1,828 votes in the Sutnga Saipung seat. Cabinet ministers James P K Sangma, Brolding Nongsiej, Hameltson Dohling and Dasakhiatbha Lamare were among candidates who lost.

Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh won the Mairang constituency by 155 votes, while BJP’s Sanbor Shullai clinched the South Shillong seat by 11,609 votes.

Counting of votes began at 8 am amid tight security.

Polling in the Sohiong seat was adjourned due to the death of a candidate.

  • Congress to amend constitution to reserve seats in CWC

Congress to amend constitution to reserve seats in CWC

    [ad_1]

Raipur: The Congress on Friday announced that it will amend its Constitution to give proper representation to SCs, STs, OBCs, minorities, women, and those below 50 years in the Congress Working Committee – the party’s top decision-making body.

In one of the proposals as made at the Udaipur ‘Chintan Shivir’ in May last year, the party will make these provisions by amending 26 articles and 32 rules.

If the proposed amendments are passed in the plenary, then former party chiefs Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will become lifelong CWC members, along with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

General Secretary, in charge of communication, Jairam Ramesh said that the most important proposal is to provide 50 per cent reservations in the Working Committee for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBCs, Minorities, women and youth.

There is also a proposal to increase the strength of the CWC, which is 25 right now including party’s floor leaders in Parliament and the party president.

The Congress Steering Committee, on Friday morning, decided unanimously to empower the party President to nominate members to the CWC.

“We had a 2-1/2 hour discussion on this issue and the dominant view, overwhelming view was keeping in mind the political challenges facing the country, facing the Congress Party in its capacity as the main opposition and keeping in mind the far-reaching amendments that we are going to bring about tomorrow and day after in our party’s constitution, 16 Articles are being amended, 32 rules are being amended.

“Keeping in mind, both these factors, the unanimous view of the Steering Committee was that this is the time to empower the Congress President to nominate members to the Congress Working Committee,” Ramesh added.

However, sources said that Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Digvijaya Singh and Ajay Maken advocated elections to the CWC elections but eventually aligned with the majority view. The members of G-23 and their sympathisers of the grouping did not speak in favour of the elections, sources said.
