  • Two Missionary Schools Facing Music For Fee Hike

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Parents in Kashmir have raised concerns about abrupt increases in annual fees for the current academic session at Tyndale Biscoe and Mallinson higher secondary school. They claim that the school has increased fees by over Rs 2000 without the approval of the school fee fixation committee, and without consulting with parents.

“In this era when business in the Kashmir valley has shuddered, Tyndale Biscoe and Mallinson higher secondary school enhanced the annual fee,” parents claimed.

A group of parents has called the increase arbitrary and fears that the school will continue to raise fees annually if they don’t protest. The school has also charged additional Rs 3000 for summer camp, which was previously included in the annual fee.

Attempts to contact school authorities for comment have been unsuccessful.

Reports suggest that other private schools, even those with lower student enrolment and fewer facilities, have also increased their fees.

Director of Education in Kashmir, Mr. Tasaduq Hussain, has stated that schools must charge fees based on the facilities they offer, and parents should be able to pay in instalments. He has also warned that action will be taken against schools that charge extra fees. [KNT]

  • Shortage of Textbooks Hits Uri Schools, Parents Aghast

    [ad_1]

    Zaffer Iqbal

Uri, May 6 (GNS): Most of the students enrolled across various schools in Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are suffering for the want of text-books for over a month now, which has expectedly affected the education scenario in the frontier town.

A delegation of parents told GNS that despite the fact that the classes have started well before a month, still most of the students have not been provided with the textbooks by the respective schools.

A parent, part of delegation, told his son is reading in class 5th but EVS, Mathematics and Kashmiri books have not been provided to him as of now.

Another parent with a somewhat similar claim said his ward, reading in Class 2, is yet to receive his Urdu book.

Expressing their resentment, the delegation said the lackadaisical approach by the schools in the area have reduced free education to merely a joke.

“If this remains the situation, how well will our wards learn?”, another delegation member said.

“We appeal Director School Education Kashmir to take necessary action and provide complete books to their children as soon as possible so that the education of their wards is not affected anymore”, they said.

When contacted, a School Education Department official admitted they have lack of availability of several books. “We have taken up the matter with higher-ups and hope that all the books required are made available at an earliest”, the official told GNS. (GNS)

Srinagar, Apr 28 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) has warned all the private schools of action for misleading parents and the students over their affiliation with the Board.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Secretary JKBOSE has issued a circular to all private academic institutions affiliated with them, cautioning against the use of misleading hoardings.

As per the circular, the private schools have been accused of duping unsuspecting students by using hoardings that falsely indicate they are affiliated with other recognized boards or imparting studies on other patterns.

To ensure adherence to the circular, the BOSE has directed all Deputy, Assistant, and Incharge Officers of the Sub and Branch Offices of the Kashmir Division to acquire an action taken report with GI-tagged photographic proof from all affiliated academic institutions in their respective domains.

  • Why are London’s schools disappearing? | podcast

    [ad_1]

Over the past year, the number of schoolchildren enrolled at schools in inner London boroughs has been falling at an alarming rate. Headteachers in areas such as Lambeth, Camden and Southwark are finding that it is hitting their funding and making it impossible for some schools to remain open.

The Guardian’s senior economics commentator Aditya Chakrabortty set out to discover why and found that at the heart of the story was gentrification. He tells Nosheen Iqbal how young working-class families are being priced out of these areas in ever greater numbers. Unable to afford to live in such areas, they are moving to further boroughs such as Barking and Dagenham. And all this is leading to a transformation of the city – and raising questions about who has the right to live and work in it.

It’s a pattern that is being repeated across the country. But what will it mean if the centre of cities become childless? One headteacher discusses how it feels to be running a school in an area ‘hollowed out’ by gentrification, and tells us his fears for the future.

  • Mega PTMs in MCD, Delhi govt schools on April 30, says Education Minister Atishi

Mega PTMs in MCD, Delhi govt schools on April 30, says Education Minister Atishi

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Directorate of Education will organise a mega parent-teacher meeting at MCD and Delhi government schools on April 30, Minister Atishi said on Monday, noting that guardians are an important cog in providing a conducive learning environment.

This will be the first time that Delhi government schools, under the ambit of the Directorate of Education, and those run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will hold mega parent-teacher meetings (PTMs) together.

Addressing a press conference here, Education Minister Atishi urged all the parents to take part in the mega PTM and provide suggestions for their children’s education and the improvement of schools.

    MS Education Academy

“Education has always been the priority of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government. In the past few years, the government raised the budget for education, improved school infrastructure and focused exclusively on providing a conducive learning environment to children in government schools,” Atishi said.

“…we also worked to connect the parents, who are important stakeholders in the education system, with the schools. Due to this, very positive changes were seen not only in the education system but also in the children’s learning levels.

“Now we are going to start this process of change in MCD schools as well through the mega PTMs,” she added.

Atishi also appealed to the parents to join the mega PTMs in their children’s schools and said it would be held on a Sunday to enable both a student’s mother and father to participate.

“From day one itself, the Kejriwal government has believed that if we want to provide quality education to all children, we will have to make the parents participate in the process,” she said.

“Before the Kejriwal government came to power, it was thought that PTMs happen only in private schools and (are) for those parents who are educated. But ever since PTMs started in Delhi government schools, parents have been part of this education process. This has also paved the way for positive development among children and their learning abilities,” Atishi said.

Oberoi said the mega PTM would prove to be a revolutionary step.

“The increased participation of parents in schools will bring a big change in MCD schools. Through the mega PTM, our teachers will be able to share with the parents how they can create a conducive environment for their children to study at home,” Oberoi said.

“The parents can also give their suggestions on school improvement,” she added.

Oberoi also appealed to all the parents to take part in the mega PTM and help MCD schools build a bright future for their children.
