UP: 38 school girls test Covid-19 positive in Lakhimpur Kheri

    [ad_1]

Lakhimpur Kheri: Thirty-eight girl students of the Kasturba residential school in Mitauli block of Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district have tested positive for Covid-19 infection, a district health official said.

Lakhimpur Kheri Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Santosh Gupta, said that one staff member was also found Covid-positive during a contact tracing exercise on Sunday after which the entire campus has been turned into a quarantine centre by the Health department.

This is the highest number of new Covid cases reported in a district in a day this year.

Gupta, who rushed a medical team to the Kasturba school, said samples of all 92 contact cases of the school had been sent for testing. The report of 38 among them was positive. Most of those tested positive were asymptomatic, he added.

“All students and staff had been advised seven-day quarantine on campus and provided medicine kits. Condition of all students, barring two who have cold, is fine,” the CMO said.

Those found Covid-positive had been kept in a separate wing in the school campus, he added.

A mother and child wing in Motipur has been asked to keep 20 beds ready for any medical need among the students and staff in the campus.

“I personally spoke to students and assures them of all help. We are keeping watch on the health condition,” said Gupta. An ambulance had also been stationed at the Kasturba school in case of any emergency, he added.

With this, the number of active Covid cases had risen to 41 since March 23, he said.

On March 23, a girl student of Kasturba residential school in Mitauli block had tested positive for Covid-19. Then, an elderly person of Behjam block and another person of Mitauli block also tested positive in the last couple of days.

Meanwhile, District Magistrate, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mahendra Bahadur Singh, said all precautionary measures, including providing medical kit, sanitisation etc, had been ensured. He said there was no need to panic and urged people to strictly observe Covid-19 protocol.

Missionary school sealed in MP after liquor, condoms found during inspection

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: A missionary school in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district was sealed after liquor and condoms were found in the principal’s room during a surprise inspection.

The inspection was conducted by the State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights on Saturday.

The SCPCR team found beds, liquor and condoms and also egg trays and gas cylinders. “I saw there was a gas cylinder and other objectionable stuff, including liquor bottles. Police are investigating the whole matter,” Nivedita Sharma, a member of the SCPCR inspection team said, adding that she had brought the matter to the notice of the District Collector.

An FIR has been lodged against the principal of the school and a detailed investigation has been demanded from the police.

“When we reached there for a routine inspection, we were surprised to know how both corners of the school were attached from the inside… It was a room and liquor bottles and condoms were found there. It was like a complete residential setup. It does not belong to only one person, but more people came out of the building who were living there. It was being used as an accommodation,” Sharma told IANS.

She further said that at least 15 beds were lying in that room and there was no CCTV camera.

“The question arises that when CCTV cameras are installed in other locations of the building, why was that particular section left out. If the principal said he wasn’t staying there, then who was staying and why 15 beds are present there? More importantly, why does that room have a direct entrance with classrooms of girl students,” Nivedita Sharma said.

She further said that liquor is not allowed on the school campus at all. “It is a violation of the law. The excise department is also taking action on the matter as it is also illegal that nobody can keep such amounts of liquor. Some other objectionable stuff, including condoms, were also found,” she added.

  • Drunk Teacher Triggers School Lockdown In JK Village

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: A government primary school in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda was locked down by the residents of Chanti village after a teacher was discovered drunk during school hours. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, was captured on video and circulated on social media, prompting officials to launch an investigation against the accused teacher, Bikram Singh. According to villagers, Singh had asked students to bring him a glass so that he could consume alcohol inside the school premises. When confronted by the villagers, Singh caused a commotion in his inebriated state, as per Gajoth Panchayat Devinder Kotwal, the village head.

“The accused teacher had a few more bottles of alcohol in his possession,” said village head. “He has repeated this behavior in the past and has been warned by the education department. It is essential to deal with this alcoholic teacher strictly to ensure the safety of the students,” Kotwal added. The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Bhaderwah, Dilmir Chowdhary, commented that carrying liquor to the workplace and being inebriated is not an ideal behaviour for a government official, especially a teacher. After receiving a written complaint from the villagers, the police have taken note of the situation.

ASP Bhadarwah Kameshwar Puri has confirmed that a complaint has been registered regarding the incident and action will be taken in accordance with the law. Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner Chowdhary has stated that if the individual in the social media video is indeed a teacher, they will be subjected to a thorough investigation and will face severe consequences. The authorities have initiated an inquiry into the matter.
