Mathura school principal suspended on indecent behaviour charges

Mathura: The principal of an upper primary school here in Raya development block was suspended for allegedly inappropriately touching a female teacher of his school, an official said on Saturday.
A detailed inquiry has been ordered against principal Kartar Singh in the matter and he has been sent to a secondary school in Lalpur village pending its submission.
The female teacher had in a written complaint to the Assistant District Basic Shiksha Adhikari alleged that the principal of her school was indulging in indecent behaviour with her and also threatened her, BSA Virendra Kumar Singh said.

The assistant BSA investigated the matter and submitted a report, on the basis of which Kartar Singh was suspended, the BSA said.
The teacher in her complaint said Kartar Singh often touched her inappropriately and put his hand around her neck and asked students to take their photographs, he said.
The charges were found to be true in the investigation, he added.

Edu Dept Limits School Bag Weight, KG Class Exempt from Bags

SRINAGAR: The School Education Department announced on Friday that students up to preschool will not be allowed to carry bags, and the weight of school bags for students of classes I and II shall not exceed 1.5 KGs.
As per the news agency KNO, the Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) stated, “The weight of the school bags as per the policy should be 1.5Kg for students of Classes I and II, 3Kg for Classes III and IV.”
According to the circular issued by the DSEK, the weight of school bags for classes VI and VII should be 4Kgs, and 5KGs for classes VIII and IX, followed by 5.5 KGs for class X.
The circular also adds that no homework should be assigned to students up to the 2nd standard and that no formal books should be prescribed at Nursery, LKG, and UKG levels. The circular further stated that pre-primary students should not carry any bags except for a light carrier for a lunch box.
DSEK emphasized that schools should not prescribe any other subjects except for Language and Arithmetic for class 1st and 2nd, Language, Environmental Science (EVS), and Arithmetic for class 3rd to 5th, and Language, Social Science, Mathematics, and Science for class 6th and 7th, or as prescribed by the affiliating authority.
Furthermore, the circular stated that students should not be asked to bring additional books and extra material to school. Schools violating the provisions of rule 8A may face cancellation of affiliation and recognition by the government. (KNO)

Srinagar, Apr 07: The School Education Department Friday said that there shall be no carrying of bag for the students of classes upto the preschool.
It also said that the weight of school bags for students of classes I and II shall not have more than 1.5 KGs.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has said, “The weight of the school bags as per the policy should be 1.5Kg for students of Classes I and II, 3Kg for Classes Ill and IV.”
The circular issued by the DSEK reads that the weight of school bags for classes VI and VII shall be 4Kgs and 5KGs for classes VIII and IX followed by 5.5 KGs for class X.
DSEK said, “In compliance to the directions passed in a Public Interest Litigation, School Education Department had made the amendment to JK School Education Act 2002 by inserting Rule 8A, which mandates School Heads to regulate weight of school bags and mandated Government to cancel affiliation and recognition of the school violating provisions of Rule 8A.
It also said that the rules that shall be added as Rule 8A include, “No homework is assigned to students of classes up to 2nd standard.”
The director also said that no formal books are prescribed at Nursery, LKG and UKG levels.
“However, students of these classes may be provided a maximum of two notebooks or work books to be kept in the teacher’s custody in the school itself,” it reads.

The circular also states that students of pre-primary level are not asked to carry any bag except light carrier for Lunch box.

Delhi school teachers ‘being forced’ to write ‘answers on blank papers’: Congress

New Delhi: The Congress on Thursday accused the Delhi government of forcing teachers to write “answers on blank exam papers” of Class 9 and 11 students and demanded a probe into the allegations.
Lashing out at the city government, the Delhi Congress’ communications department chairperson Anil Bhardwaj alleged that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former education minister Manish Sisodia created a “false narrative” about the “Delhi model of education”.
“The truth is, the education standard in government schools deteriorated terribly. Kejriwal had promised in his manifesto for the assembly elections nine years ago that, if elected to power, he would create 500 new schools and 20 new colleges but he could not fulfil those promises,” the Congress leader claimed.

He alleged that the administration “failed to develop” Delhi despite making a “budget allocation of over Rs 5 lakh crore” in the past nine years.
“Despite making a budget allocation of over Rs 5 lakh crore in the past nine years, the Kejriwal government failed to develop Delhi.
“The AAP government only made (Delhi) number one in pollution, the liquor scam and squandering taxpayers’ money for publicity and advertisements,” the former MLA said.

School Education Department Orders Age Criteria For Admission In Class 1st Academic Session 2023-24: A large number of complaints have been received from parents regarding denial of admission to their wards by various schools in class 1st on the plea that the age of their wards is less than 06 years and as per National Education Policy 2020, the age for admission in class 1st should be 06 years.

As per the past practice, the children have got admitted at the age of 2+ years in nursery class and such students have completed three years in the pre-primary level and are now in the age group of 5+ years. Withholding their admission by a year will attribute to loss of an academic year, as they are due for admission in class 1t in the session 2023-24.
In view of the above, the matter has been examined after considering the concerns of all the stakeholders, notifications issued by various State Govts. & series of deliberations. It has been decided to gradually implement the NEP and relax the age criteria for admission to class 1st for the academic session 2023-24, in view of the transition period.
Accordingly, the students who have completed two / three years in the pre-primary classes, as the case may be, and have attained the age of more than 5 years as on 315T March, 2023, shall be admitted in the Ist Class in the academic session 2023-24.

Elderly man rapes minor school girl in Leh

Leh, Apr 1: Police have arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly raping a minor girl in Leh Division of Ladakh.
Both Muslim and Buddhist organizations have condemned the gory incident and demanded strict punishment for the alleged rapist.
The 12-year-old girl (name withheld) was raped by the man on 29 March last month while the accused who was on a run, was arrested by the police today.
A police official identified the rapist as Sayyad Zulfikar Ali Shah. He said that an FIR vide number 2/2023 under section 5(M) and 6 POCSO Act at Women Police Station Leh stands registered in this regard.
SP Leh, PD Nitya informed that the accused offered the girl lift to school and took her to a secluded place, and raped her.
“The girl also suffered a head injury and the accused left her thinking she was dead. Within 48 hours, we arrested the accused,” she said adding the condition of the victim is stable.
Almost all the political, and socio-religious organizations have condemned the incident and sought severe punishment for the accused.
Pertinently, in a hamlet of Leh, last year in August, a lady was raped and murdered by an accused namely 32-year-old Rigzin Dawa against whom police an FIR vide number 149/2022 under section 302, 376 stands registered at Police Station Leh. [KNT]

Girl Dies While Waiting For The School Bus

SRINAGAR: A minor girl died after slipping into an irrigation canal in Perniya area of Boniyar in Baramulla district.
An official said that a minor girl identified as Rukaya Bashir (14) daughter of Bashir Ahmad Ganaie resident of Nowpora Jagir slipped into the canal.
The class 9 student was waiting for school bus along Lower Jhelum Hydroelectric power Project (LJHP) canal when she slipped and fell into the canal, he said.
Soon after the incident, a search operation to retrieve her body was launched and body was retrieved. Water supply of the canal was stopped and it helped in fishing out the body, said the official.
He said the body was handed over to her family after medico legal formalities were completed.
Tehsildar Boniyar, Vikramjeet Singh said fencing would be carried out along the LJHP, especially at accident prone sites soon.
He said he will write to the higher ups for an SDRF team for Boniyar so that people may do face any difficulties during such incidents.(KNO)
