As police quiz Rahul, Cong tweets ‘Savarkar samjha kya’

New Delhi: As the Delhi Police questioned Rahul Gandhi over his “women still being sexually assaulted” remark, the Congress on Sunday took a jibe at the government, saying “Savarkar samjha kya… naam Rahul Gandhi hai”.
Law Minister and BJP leader Kiren Rijiju responded on Twitter urging not to “insult” the great personality (Veer Savarkar). “I request with folded hands,” the minister said.
The Congress tweeted a photo of the former party chief in the driver’s seat of a car, and said, “Savarkar samjha kya… naam- Rahul Gandhi hai (Have you considered him Savarkar?… the name is Rahul Gandhi).”
Reacting to it, Rijiju said, “Kripya mahan atma Veer Savarkar ka apmaan na karen. Haath jod kar vinti karta hun (Please don’t insult great personality Veer Savarkar. I request with folded hands)”.
A Delhi Police team on Sunday questioned Gandhi at his residence here over his remark made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra that “women are still being sexually assaulted and asked him to provide information about the “victims” to take up their complaints, officials said.

Savarkar or Tipu? Karnataka district tensed over choosing name for junction

Yadgir: Tension gripped Yadgir city of the state after a row broke out over the naming of a junction after the 18th-century Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan or BJP’s iconic figure Veer Savarkar.
Though the authorities swung into action and brought the situation under control, the issue has taken a communal turn threatening the peace, law and order situation.
Yadgir Municipality is run by BJP. Maintaining that Tippu circle near Hattikuni Cross is illegal, the Hindus are demanding rechristening it as Veer Savarkar.
On the other hand, fans of Tipu Sultan, mostly from the Muslim community, have declared that they won’t allow this to happen at any cost.
The authorities have arrested Parashurama Shegurkar, State President of Shivaji Sena, and his followers. North Karnataka Tipu Sultan Samyukta Rang President Abdul Kareem has also been booked by the police and sources say that he is absconding.
Tipu fans maintain that the city municipality has given permission to name the circle after Tipu Sultan in 2010.
Earlier, it was called Moulana Abdul Kalam circle. However, Hindu activists claim that the circle is named after Tipu Sultan illegally without permission from the Municipality. The government has not accepted the change of name.
The Hindu activists are demanding to rename of the circle after Veer Savarkar. They even made an attempt to remove the name of the circle and police had foiled the bid. The authorities had also clamped prohibitory orders.

Suresh Ambigara, President of the Municipality maintained that naming the circle after Tippu Sultan is illegal. The proposal has been sent to the government to name it after Veer Savarkar. “We will abide by the government order in this regard,” he said.
As elections are nearing, the ruling BJP government is likely to accept the proposal of naming the circle after Veer Savarkar. This is going to be an issue, sources explain.

Replace Gandhi with Savarkar on currency, rename Parliament after him: Hindu Mahasabha

Meerut: The All India Hindu Mahasabha on Sunday demanded that the image of Mahatma Gandhi on currency notes be replaced with that of V D Savarkar and other freedom fighters.
In an open letter to the Government of India, the Hindu Mahasabha also asked for renaming the road leading to the Parliament House after Savarkar.
Mahasabha leaders said this will be true tribute to Savarkar, a freedom fighter and former president of the Hindu Mahasabha, from the Modi government.
Savarkar’s 58th death anniversary was observed at the office of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha on Sharda Road by performing havan puja and rituals on Sunday.
Presiding over the programme, National Vice President of Hindu Mahasabha, Pandit Ashok Sharma said Savarkar was a great historical revolutionary in India’s freedom struggle.

‘This election is all about Tipu vs Savarkar’, says Karnataka BJP chief

Shivamogga: Karnataka’s Bharatiya Janata President (BJP) Nalin Kumar Kateel on Wednesday stroke a controversy by saying that the upcoming assembly election in Karnataka is all “about Tipu vs Savarkar.”
Addressing the people on Wednesday, BJP state President Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “This (Assembly) election is all about Tipu vs Savarkar. They (Cong) allowed celebrating Tipu Jayanti which was not required, and spoke disgracefully about Savarkar. I challenge Siddaramaiah to discuss if our country needs a patriotic like Savarkar or Tipu.”
Meanwhile, BJP state president Kateel also challenged Siddaramaiah to debate on who is important for the state Tipu or Savarkar.
“People need to understand if they need a patriotic like Savarkar or Tipu,” said BJP state President Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Earlier on February 7, Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is not expanding the Karnataka Cabinet as it is avoiding appointing the son of its senior leader BS Yediyurappa.
Karnataka is likely to undergo Assembly elections in April-May this year to elect all 224 members of the Legislative Assembly.
An important source of BJP said, “On the one hand, work is being done to reorganize and restructure the booth committee, so that the booth committee becomes more strong, on the other hand ‘Booth Vijay Abhiyan’, ‘Janaspandana Rally’, ‘Jana Sangathan Yatra’ are going on to ensure BJP’s victory in Karnataka and the party leaders are continuously interacting with people through these rallies.”
The sources said that the BJP believes that the organization becomes stronger by booth empowerment; if the booth is strong then the organization will remain active.

“Three months are left for the Karnataka elections. In view of the 2023 elections, all these preparations are being done and after that, we will focus on 2024,” the BJP sources said.
As far as reshuffling is concerned in the Karnataka government, the BJP source said that only three months are left, so there will be no big change in it.
