Hyderabad: Panic prevailed at Hussain Sagar Lake after 40 tourists on the Bhagmati boat were caught in a thunderstorm and gusty winds. However, the alert crew of speeding boats successfully rescued everyone and brought the boat safely to shore.

As per routine, the famous Bhagmati boat started its journey from the Buddha statue at 5 pm on Tuesday evening. However, heavy thunderstorms fraught with gusty winds started, causing the boat to go out of control and get washed away in another direction, leading to panic among the tourists.

Sensing trouble, the crew of speeding boats swung into action and successfully brought the boat to shore. “The boat suddenly stopped working due to unexpected inclement weather. However, the persons traveling on the boat were safe,” said a senior police official of the Central Zone police.

  • Hyderabad: Rs 82 Cr sanctioned for 4 STPs near Osman and Himayat Sagar

Hyderabad: Rs 82 Cr sanctioned for 4 STPs near Osman and Himayat Sagar

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 82.23 crore to the water board here for setting up four sewerage treatment plants (STP) with a capacity of 20 million litres per day (MLD) in the catchment of the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar water bodies.

It may be recalled that the Telangana government last year scrapped GO 111, an earlier order that protected the catchment area of the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar water bodies. The state’s logic was that as both the usability of both lakes for Hyderabad’s drinking water needs have reduced considerably over the years, the order prohibiting construction in a 10 kilometre radius comprising the catchment area of both the reservoirs.

While a case in the Telangana high court is still pending regarding the scrapping of GO 111, the state government’s order on Tuesday said that the sanctioning of Rs 82.23 crore for the STPs was based on a proposal by the director of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to contain immediate sewerage flows. The order also stated that comprehensive plan is also being created for sewerage diversion and treatment.

Over the years, inflows into both lakes have reduced due to encroachments into the catchment areas. On the other hand, due to constant urbanisation in the nearby areas, there was also demand by locals to remove the restrictions of GO 111 from the state government.

MP govt to construct Rs 100-crore Ravidas temple in Sagar district

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government would construct a temple of Sant Ravidas in Sagar district at a cost of Rs 100 crore, it said on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made the announcement at Ravidas Mahakumbh, an event held to commemorate the 15th century saint-poet, in Sagar district.

The mystic poet and reformer enjoys a nationwide following, especially among a section of the Dalits.

Chouhan also announced that 20 per cent plots in the state’s industrial clusters would be reserved for the scheduled castes (SC) and scheduled tribes (ST).

“A temple of Sant Ravidas will be built at Bartuma village near Sagar at a cost of Rs 100 crore. The couplets and teachings of Sant Ravidas will be inscribed on the walls of the temple. His personality and work will also be showcased,” Chouhan said.

The government’s Mukhyamantri Teerth-Darshan Yojana, a pilgrimage scheme, would also cover Banaras, the saint’s birthplace, he said.

Under the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) policy, a cluster will be earmarked for the organisations of SC industrialists, he said.

Nodal officers will be appointed to guide them, the chief minister added.

Land will also be given to members of SC communities for setting up petrol pumps allotted to them, he said.

Members of SC and ST communities will also receive relaxation in the government’s store purchase rule, the chief minister said.

To ensure the safety of sanitary workers, manual cleaning of manholes would be stopped and it would be done only through machines, Chouhan said.

He also performed Bhumi Pujan (ground-breaking) for a water supply scheme for Shahgarh town.
