    HC seeks reply from Jharkhand Assembly over separate room for Namaz in its premise

    UP: 28 booked for 'rioting', trespass' to offer namaz on govt property in UP

    Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday directed the state Assembly to file a response on why a separate room was allotted for offering Namaz in its premise.

    A division bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra verbally asked the Assembly the basis on which the decision for allotment of a room for offering Namaz was given.

    The matter will now be heard on May 18.

    The petition has been filed by one Ajay Kumar Modi. Advocate Naveen Kumar argued on his behalf.

    In 2021, a room was allotted for the minorities in the Jharkhand Assembly building to offer Namaz.

    SRINAGAR: Baramulla police on Friday said to have arrested a ready-made garments shop owner for secretly recording videos in a changing room.

    In a statement, a police spokesman said that police Station Chandoosa received a written complaint from one minor girl (name withheld) accompanied by her sister wherein she stated that on April 26th, 2023 she went to a readymade shop at Bandi Payeen belonging to one Aijaz Ahmad Sofi S/O Gh Nabi Sofi R/O Bandi Payeen Chandoosa and selected some clothes and went to changing room for trial. After entering in the changing room she found a hidden mobile phone which was kept there for secretly recording the customer’s videos while changing clothes, he said.

    Acting promptly upon the complaint, case FIR under sections of IPC, IT acr & POCSO Act was registered in Police Station Chandoosa and investigation was taken up, the statement said.

    He said, during the course of investigation, a team headed by SHO PS Chandoosa, Inspector Irfan Ahmad under the supervision of SDPO Kreeri, Khalid Aahraf was constituted and the accused person namely Aijaz Ahmad Sofi S/O Gh Nabi Sofi R/O Bandi Payeen Chandoosa (owner of the shop) was taken into custody immediately in the instant case. Mobile devices of the accused have also been seized and further investigation is going on.

    Community members are requested to be careful while using trail rooms, the spokesman added. (KDC)

    Baramulla, Apr 28: Amid the rise in moral degradation in Kashmir Valley, a case has emerged in which a readymade garments shopkeeper had been allegedly secretly taking videos of female customers changing clothes in the changing room of this shop. The case was being reported from North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

    A police spokesperson said that Police Station Chandoosa in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district received a written complaint from a minor girl accompanied by her sister wherein she stated that on 26th April this month, she went to a readymade shop in Bandi Payeen area of Chandoosa.

    The minor girl reported that she selected some clothes and went to changing room for trial.

    After entering the changing room she found a hidden mobile phone which was kept there for secretly recording the customer’s videos while changing clothes.

    Police took serious note of the complaint and after investigation arrested the shopkeeper identified as Aijaz Nabi Sofi, a resident of Bandi Payeen Chandoosa who is also the owner of the said shop.

    The police spokesperson said that mobile devices of the accused have also been seized and further investigation is going on. [KNT]

    When I started in broadcasting, I always seemed to be the youngest person in the room. I liked it this way. Yes, I was occasionally patronised a bit, and doubtless got on my elders’ nerves, in a who-does-this-kid-think-he-is kind of way. But I didn’t mind being talked down to one jot. After all, they knew a lot more than me about things and I had plenty to learn.

    This was in the BBC’s business news department. The best of them were only too happy to sit me down and talk me through one of the many topics I didn’t understand. I spent many hours learning at the feet of gifted correspondents such as Rory Cellan-Jones, Simon Gompertz and Jackie Hardgrave. I’ll for ever be grateful to them. They looked out for the work experience kid, professionally and socially. When I was hungover, they probably gave me Calpol. It was good to be the junior; I felt as if I was ahead of the game.

    Now, all a sudden, I’m not the youngest. I’m the oldest. This wise old owl feels old enough for the role, but nowhere near wise enough. In fact, I’m still seeking wisdom much more than I’m dispensing it. To this day, I call Rory for explanations, and he has been retired a year or more. Am I anywhere near as helpful to my young colleagues, or a grumpy old deadweight? I’m taking a long look at myself.

    I went to the Croatian embassy recently for a gathering of Croatian professionals in the UK. Upon entering, I thought I’d walked into the wrong event; it felt more like a youth club for exceptionally well-dressed people. I was a good quarter of a century older than nearly everyone there. They all seemed more confident and wiser than me. All of them spoke English far better than I spoke their language. It felt as if I didn’t have a lot to offer.

    I got talking to one impressive young woman studying chemical engineering.

    “Postgrad?”

    “No. First degree. I’m only 20.”

    She turned out to be the daughter of a famous Croatian goalkeeper. Sloping off home, I checked his Wikipedia page and discovered that I’m considerably older than him, too.

    When I got back, I made myself some cocoa and went to bed.

    Abu Dhabi: Ahead of Eid Al-Fitr holidays, the hotels in United Arab Emirates (UAE) are witnessing exceptionally high occupancy rates of nearly 90%, local media reported.

    The Eid Al-Fitr holidays in UAE begin on the 29th of Ramzan and until the 3rd of Shawwal (April 20 – April 23).

    As the festivities coincide with the peak of the usual travel season, hotels on Palm Jumeirah, Downtown Dubai, Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah and Yas Island in Abu Dhabi will be packed with holiday tourists.

    Although April is the peak tourism season, most hotels expect the Eid holiday season demand to be driven by accommodation enthusiasts.

    As per a report by Gulf News, with accommodation enthusiasts providing more than 50 per cent of the demand, hotel room rates in prime locations average from 2,000 Dirhams to 7,000 Dirhams for a two-night stay, depending on the property.

    Average daily rates for hotels in Dubai have increased by at least 45-50 per cent this month.

    According to astrologers, this year in the UAE, Ramzan will be 30 days long. This gives the most likely start of Eid Al-Fitr on Friday, April 21. However, the official decision will be announced on the 29th day of the holy month of Ramzan, that is on April 19.
