    SRINAGAR: A CRPF man posted in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle on Wednesday.

    An official said that a CRPF personnel shot himself dead with his own service rifle at Railway

    He identified the trooper as SI/GD Mohan Singh from Madhya Pradesh of 90th Battalion CRPF.

    Hyderabad: The city police arrested three men in a security scare on Friday at the inauguration of the 125-foot-long Ambedkar statue for carrying a long rifle without a licence.

    Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, other ministers and government officials were present at the event.

    When questioned by the police at the entrance of the venue, the main accused, Vaddinedi Shiva Prakash revealed that he was a driver and was carrying the rifle which belonged to a private gunman.

    Carrying firearms without having proper licences is against the law.

    The rifle belonged to Guru Saheb Singh, an ex-Army personnel, who procured the licence to carry 2 firearms from Jammu and Kashmir for self-defence purposes.

    The former defence official was employed by a Somajiguda resident Dondla Madhu Yadav for Rs 60,000 per month. Yadav is also a YouTuber by profession.

    Upon further questioning, it was revealed that Yadav employed private security personnel without seeking permission from the police, which is against the law and liable for prosecution.

    A case was filed under the Arms Act, 1959. They have been taken into custody.

  • BSF officer dies of bullet injury from own service rifle in Kathua

    Kathua/Jammu, Apr 2: An Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Border Security Force (BSF) died of a bullet injury from his own service rifle at a forward post near the International Border in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, officials said.

    It was not immediately clear whether the 55-year-old ASI Sukhnandan Prasad, a resident of Madhya Pradash, committed suicide or died after his rifle went off accidentally, the officials said.

    They said the deceased was on duty at Border Outpost Gurnam in Hiranagar sector when his colleagues found him in an injured condition with a gunshot injury from his own service rifle.

    He was rushed to a nearby medical facility where he was declared brought dead, the officials said, adding police have started inquest proceedings.–(PTI)

    They told GNS that a person identified as Arvind Kumar, son of Mann Singh, a resident of Sindhra Bhalaa himself dead using the rifle of his brother who happens to be a Village Defence Guard member.

    Kupwara, Jan 27 (GNS): A teenager was injured after hit on the face by a shot fired from a 12 bore rifle by an unknown person at Payerpora Hyhama area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Friday.

    A police officer told GNS that information was received that one unknown person has “utilized” 12 bore illegally at Payerpora Hyhama, resulting in minor injuries on face of a teenager identified as Sahir Ahmad Khan son of Niyaz Ahmad Khan of Payerpora Hyhama.

    The Injured was shifted to SDH Kupwara wherefrom he was referred to GMC Baramulla. In this regard, he said, a case (FIR No 12/2023) under section 307 IPC (attempt to murder) and 3/27 Arm Act (use of prohibited arms or ammunition) stands registered investigation taken up. (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: A woman was killed when she was hit with a bullet fired accidentally by her husband from a rifle belonging to a VDC member in Surankote area of Poonch on Thursday. Whether it is a case of accidental killing or otherwise is being investigated, police said.

    Quoting a police officer news agency GNS reported that an information was received through reliable sources that a 30-year-old woman identified as Rubina Kouser was killed due to bullet wounds at around 1:30 p.m. Immediately, he said, a police team rushed to the spot and arrested her husband Nassar Ahmad son of Nazir Hussain of Upper Murrah in Surankote. He said that a case has been registered and the weapon, a rifle of the VDC member, has been seized.

    A police official said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the fire was fired by Nassar Ahmad and further investigations are underway if the fire went off accidentally or by design.

    Jammu, Jan 21: Police on Saturday launched investigations amid reports of damage to a streetlight and splinters marks on wall of a house of a former MLA at Lassana in Surankote area of Poonch district.

    Official sources told GNS that house belongs to ex-MLA Surankote Choudhary Mohammad Akram and falls close to a jungle area.

    They said preliminary investigations suggest that splinter marks on wall were caused by pellets from a 12-bore rifle. “Further investigations are underway,” the said. While no one was injured in the incident, it has led to panic among locals.

    A police officer told GNS that investigators are inquiring all possible angles. ” Since the house is in close vicinity of a jungle, it could be case of hunter shots hitting the house or there could be other possibilities. We are investigating all angles.” (GNS)
