Hyderabad: Restaurant fined 20K fine after cockroach crawls out of biryani

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Captain Cook Restaurant at Ameerpet was asked to pay Rs 20,000 as compensation to one of their customer after he found a cockroach crawling out of the biryani from in a takeaway box.

Telangana State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission heard the complaint filed by M Arun against the manager of the restaurant.

In September 2021, Arun ordered a Chicken Biryani takeaway parcel from the restaurant. He then reached his workplace and sat to eat the meal.

    MS Education Academy

But to his disgust, he saw the insect crawling out of the food, seeing which he threw up. The incident killed his appetite for days.

He immediately took a video of the same, called the restaurant and informed them about it. But to his surprise, he heard an apology from the manager of the restaurant stating that pest control recently was underway at the place and had led insects to hide in places and one such roach might have landed in his box.

However, Arun refused to accept the apology stating that seeing the insect crawling in
the food killed his appetite for days.

He further said that he won’t order anything from the place in the future and the manager of the restaurant repaid an amount of Rs 240 to him.

Arun then took the matter to the forum where the opposition party denied allegations made by him stating that the meal in the takeaway box was fresh and hot and there is merely any chance of an insect staying alive at that temperature.

After hearing the details, the commission found the restaurant owners guilty and pointed out that they failed to maintain standards of cleanliness and hygiene and also it was evident from the videos that a cockroach had indeed crawled out.

“The OP acted in a negligent manner in providing hygienic food,” stated the commission adding that it was a basic right of every consumer to have a quality product or service for the charges paid.

The restaurant failed to maintain basic safety precautions in providing hygienic food to its consumers, they said.

“Mere refunding the transaction amounts to the consumers whenever such incident happens should not relieve the opposite parties from their liability of being responsible and cautious,” the commission stated.

An additional Rs 10,000 was slapped on the restaurant for the costs incurred while the commission directed the guilty to pay the fine within a period of 45 days.

Dream dinner party guests: Obama, Springsteen and Spielberg delight Barcelona restaurant staff

    [ad_1]

Staff at a Barcelona restaurant were left amazed when a mysterious last-minute booking turned out to be for the former US president Barack Obama along with film director Steven Spielberg and singer Bruce Springsteen.

After dining on Thursday evening at the Palace Hotel’s Amar restaurant, the trio posed for a photograph with employees. The picture was posted on Instagram by staff member Pol Perello and captioned: “Pleasures that this job brings you!!”

Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, along with Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw, were in town for Springsteen’s Friday night concert at Barcelona’s Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

The seafood dinner took place after the Obamas’ late night flight to Barcelona, according to Spanish radio network Cadena SER. Amar chef Rafa Zafra said their reservation was made only hours beforehand at the recommendation of famed Spanish-American chef José Andrés.

“José Andrés called me and told me that it was a very important table, but that we should please not say anything,” Zafra told Cadena SER. “And of course, I began to investigate and saw that Obama was coming, that Bruce had a concert…”

The group came “tired”, but keen to “try everything”, according to Zafra. During the meal, they “ate a lot” — including oysters, shellfish, and caviar — and “drank a little”.

“The one who behaved best was the one who had to work today,” Zafra said, referring to Springsteen’s Friday night concert.

On the group photo, Zafra said: “The security people told us to please not ask them for photos, but just before leaving, Obama entered the kitchen and told us that this had been one of their best meals and if they could take a photo with the whole team.”

On Friday, Barack and Michelle Obama, accompanied by Spielberg and Capshaw, visited a handful of Barcelona’s landmark cultural sites, local media reported, including the Sagrada Familia and the Moco Museum.

According to photos and videos shared by Spanish media, the Obamas — surrounded by heavy security detail — strolled around central Barcelona hand-in-hand, occasionally waving at onlookers.

Spielberg, a longtime friend of Obama’s, has been a fixture at events and holidays with the former president. During his White House tenure, Obama awarded the acclaimed director with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015.

“His stories have shaped America’s story and his values have shaped our world,” the then-president said.

Obama has been friends with Springsteen since the Boss supported him on the campaign trail during the 2008 presidential election. The pair also co-hosted the 2021 podcast series “Renegades: Born in the USA”, in which they discussed their friendship, their families, music, and issues facing America.

  • Start with the font: Jay Rayner’s guide to choosing a good restaurant anywhere

Start with the font: Jay Rayner’s guide to choosing a good restaurant anywhere

    [ad_1]

All unfamiliar restaurants are terrible until proven otherwise. I’m not proud of this blunt statement. I have written about restaurants for so long because I love them, often in that heated adult way. Yes, there are the occasional skewerings, of the grossly overpriced and the grimly underperforming. But generally, I regard myself as a cheerleader. I want good places to prosper.

First, though, I have to identify them, and eating out is rarely a cheap gamble. Which means it’s not something anyone can treat casually. For me, it’s often relatively straightforward. I recognise the name of a chef or a restaurateur. I like what they’ve done before and can be reasonably confident about what they’re doing now. But sometimes, like everyone else, I have to take a punt. Perhaps I am visiting a town I don’t know well. Perhaps the new place is run by a team I’ve never come across before.

It’s time for detective work. It all starts with the menu, whether viewed online or in the window. Begin with the basics, by which I mean the typeface. Dismiss anywhere that uses comic sans or the like. If they have so little taste in typography, what hope is there when it comes to the food? Equally, be suspicious of somewhere that uses a grandiose italic. Aside from the fact that they’re so bloody hard to read, it’s also a clear signifier: it says “we take food Seriously” with a capital S. Is that your idea of fun? No? Move on. A menu should be physically readable.

Now we come to the words. Are they using redundant adjectives? If the menu feels the need to tell you that the squid is tender, find somewhere else. No restaurant intentionally serves rubbery squid. So why the hell are you telling me that yours is tender? Look out for other terrifying words. Are ingredients “nestled”? Is the dish “sumptuous”? Are there “medleys” or “symphonies”? If anything is described as “mouth-watering”, close down the browser. Back away from the window. Whoever wrote that menu is desperately overcompensating for deficiencies in the kitchen. A good menu should also be simply written.

Next up, how long is it? Half a dozen or so starters and mains? Fine. Any competent kitchen can manage that. But a dozen dishes a course? More? At that point I become suspicious that a freezer cabinet and a food service company are involved. The menus of restaurants cooking the food of China’s various provinces or the Indian subcontinent are an exception to this rule. Their menus can be much longer courtesy of permutations of ingredients. And yes, on those menus, photographs are fine.

If the menu writing has passed muster, check the prices. Add up a mid-range starter, main and dessert. How much is it going to be a head? Is that reasonable compared to bills you’ve settled recently? Now look at the wine list. Everyone forgets to check the wine list, which can be a source of both joy and of unhappiness. The food may seem reasonably priced, but if the cheapest bottle of wine is, say, £35, the bill is quickly going to mount up. How many bottles are there under £40? And have they arranged them in ascending order of price? Or have they done them by grape and region? If you love wine and your pockets are deep, go for it. Otherwise, stay away.

At this point, Google becomes your friend. Study the photographs that are available online. Does the look of the restaurant seem to match the cost? We are deeply into the subjective here, but there is now so much online you have significant evidence to go on. Does anybody in those pictures look as if they’re having a nice time? Which brings us to the last source of information: the online review. For God’s sake, don’t read them. There’s enough trauma in the world without volunteering to witness the brutalisation of the English language. But there can still be wisdom in crowds. You just have to locate the crowd. If there are fewer than 200 user reviews, there’s nothing of value here. Beyond that number you can usually pay attention to the scores, because at that volume few places are capable of influencing the overall result. Do the four- and five-star reviews vastly outnumber the one and two stars? If yes, then it may be cause for optimism.

In the end, of course, you do have to make a choice. You have to decide whether or not to book a table. And if, based upon all of these tests, you choose to do so and the place is terrible, if the cooking amounts to the victimisation of innocent ingredients, and the service would be banned under the Geneva convention, then you have one last option. Don’t eat there ever again.

Launching a scathing attack on BJP leaders, Priyanka urged the people of the state not to get influenced by their words but rather look at the “conscience” of the leaders seeking votes. She said, “The Prime Minister came here and said the leaders of the Opposition want to dig his grave.

What kind of talk is this? Every citizen of the country would like the health of the Prime Minister to be good.” “The people ofKarnataka should not vote on the words of any leader but of their conscience,” She added.

Urging the people of the state to vote wisely, Priyanka said, “The 40 per cent government ruthlessly looted the public. The Karnataka government looted Rs 1.5 lakh crore.

Invoking the Amul-Nandini row, Priyanka said, “Nandini Milk earlier used to produce 90 lakh litres of milk and milk products, but today only 70 lakh litres of milk is being produced.” “The government deliberately reduced the production of milk so that Amul milk could be brought to Karnataka,” she alleged.

She said it is time for a change in Karnataka as BJP has not done any constructive work in the state. “They (BJP) have not done any constructive work for Karnataka. So it is time for a change.

In the last three years, everything has been on downhill in the state, be it facilities or infrastructure. People know from their ownexperiences about the governance of the BJP,” she added.

Watch: Cow made chief guest for restaurant launch in Uttar Pradesh

    [ad_1]

Usually, when we scroll through our social media feed we see pictures of politicians, celebrities and other prominent personalities inaugurating an event.

Enter Uttar Pradesh and everything makes sense. Be it a cow made to inaugurate a restaurant.

Yes! Yes! you heard it right. A cow was the special guest of honour that inaugurated an organic dining restaurant named Organic Oasis. The event happened in Lukhnow.

    MS Education Academy

Interestingly, the restaurant is owned by a former senior police officer by the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Singh. Singh “invited a desi cow” for the inauguration ceremony.

In a video shared by ANI, the special guest cow adorned in a vibrant yellow outfit is seen taken to the restaurant’s kitchen where it is made to eat.

Singh maintains that a healthy body is vital for good sustainable life. “Unfortunately, one gets food of produce laced with chemical fertilizers and pesticides. I think this will be the first such restaurant in India that will have its own production, control and processing. People will feel the difference in food after having and demand it,” the former police officer said.

Located at the Shusant Gold City at Millennium adjacent to Lulu Mall, Organic Oasis promises to utilise raw food materials manufactured fresh from the farmlands.

According to Singh, the cow is a big economic source. “I would always prefer gau mata as the guest of honour to my restaurant,” he said.

  • Former Greek Finance Minister Varoufakis attacked in central Athens

Former Greek Finance Minister Varoufakis attacked in central Athens

    [ad_1]

    britain assange 88167

ATHENS — Former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis was attacked in central Athens late on Friday, suffering a broken nose, cuts and bruises.

The assault, which his party DiEM25 described as a “brazen fascist attack,” took place while Varoufakis was dining in the central Exarchia district with party members from all over Europe.

“A small group of thugs stormed the place shouting aggressively, falsely accusing him of signing off on Greece’s bailouts with the troika [the country’s bailout creditors],” DiEM25 said in a statement. “Varoufakis stood up to talk to them, but they immediately responded with violence, savagely beating him while filming the scene.”

Politicians from across the political spectrum swiftly condemned the assault in Varoufakis, the motorbike-riding, leather-jacket-wearing politician who became well-known as the country’s finance minister in 2015.

As part of the left-wing Syriza-led Greek government, Varoufakis battled the so-called troika and Europe-imposed austerity. While the Greek administration eventually capitulated and signed a bailout agreement, Varoufakis quit government and founded a cross-border far-left political movement, DiEM25.

“They were not anarchists, leftists, communists or members of any movement,” Varoufakis said in a tweet early Saturday. “Thugs for hire they were (and looked it), who clumsily invoked the lie that I sold out to the troika. We shall not let them divide us.”

The Exarchia neighborhood has a reputation for being a bastion of self-styled anarchists. Varoufakis was publicly harassed in 2015 while dining in the same district at the height of the financial crisis.

Greek Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakos said police would take all measures to identify and arrest the perpetrators of Friday’s attack. He noted that the DiEM25 leader, “at his own initiative, was not accompanied by his personal police detail” while at the restaurant.

Greece has been hit by the biggest mass demonstrations since the eurozone crisis in recent days, as Greeks have taken to the streets almost on a daily basis to protest the country’s deadliest train crash, ramping up pressure on the conservative New Democracy government ahead of coming elections. The wave of public rage follows a train collision on February 28 that killed 57 people and raised profound questions about the management of the rail system.

The train crash has also sparked deeper questions about the functioning of the Greek state and fresh anger against the political system.

“Let us please stay focused: We are mourning the 57 victims of rail privatization. We support the spontaneous youth rallies, the greatest hope that Greece can change. See you at the demonstrations,” Varoufakis tweeted, as another big rally is scheduled for Sunday.
