BJP won’t give reservations to Muslims in Karnataka: Amit Shah

    [ad_1]

Bagalkot: Attacking Congress over “appeasement politics” ahead of Karnataka assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not allow Muslim reservations in the state.

Addressing a public meeting in Hunagunda, Shah said, “BJP has strengthened the security of the nation by banning the Popular Front of India (PFI), but the Congress party is against it… BJP will neither allow Muslim reservations nor will allow Lingayat reservations to be reduced in the state.”

Exuding confidence in Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory in the upcoming Karnataka elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the party will return to power with a full majority.

Shah held a mega roadshow in Doddaballapura on Sunday.

“We will win the elections by full majority or at least half a mark plus 15 seats. In these four years, Yediyurappa and Bommai government has done a lot of work,” the Union Home Minister told ANI.

The 224-seat Karnataka assembly will go to polls on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13. The majority mark to form the government is 113 seats.

Attacking Congress, Shah further said, “Congress gives false promises everywhere and loses elections. They take support of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Popular Front of India (PFI) which Karnataka’s people do not like and are furious about it.”

The BJP is eyeing a second term in the state and has exuded confidence in retaining power with a full majority.

Notably, Karnataka is the only State in the South where BJP is in power.

Campaigning for the 10 May elections in Karnataka is at its peak with multiple rallies, public meetings and interactions across the State.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a mega roadshow in Bengaluru on Sunday. He also held public meetings at Nanjangud in Mysuru and Shivamogga.

  • Assam parties expressed reservations over delimitation based on 2001 Census: CEC

Assam parties expressed reservations over delimitation based on 2001 Census: CEC

    [ad_1]

Guwahati: The ECI on Tuesday said civil society organisations did not oppose Assam’s delimitation process, but several political parties have expressed reservations over issues like the exercise being done based on 2001 census or not putting it off till 2026 when the next nationwide delimitation is due.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar held discussions with various stakeholders ahead of the delimitation of Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies in this North Eastern state during a three-day visit since Sunday.

Kumar told a press conference that consultations with the stakeholders will be held again after the draft proposal for delimitation is published, though he refused to assign any timeframe for its notification.

He said there will be no change in the number of constituencies in the state in this exercise.

The CEC said nine recognised national and state political parties and various social organisations, numbering a total of over 60, met the ECI team.

Kumar and the two election commissioners, Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel, held talks with state government officials and deputy commissioners among others.

“Everyone wants peace to be maintained and the process to be carried forward. No one was opposed to the process,” he said, sharing the gist of what the civil society organisations had presented before it.

Mentioning various points raised by political parties and other organisations, Kumar said delimitation is being done based on the 2001 Census figure as mandated by law.

He said the delimitation process is being resumed in the state after coming to a halt in 2008 as the President rescinded the previous order.

Asked if the exercise will be done again in the state when it is undertaken nationwide in 2026, Kumar said it is “too early” to speak on that as it will be conducted on the 2021 census, which is yet to be done.

He pointed out that the number of constituencies could change in the 2026 delimitation, though there will be no such changes in the ongoing process.

On the possible change in the number of constituencies reserved for SC and ST, he said it is worked out as per their proportion to the total population.

The CEC said requests have been put before the ECI to consider lower population growth rate in upper Assam areas while realigning constituencies and also special consideration for the sixth schedule areas and Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts.

When asked if non-completion of the updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) could cause problems in the delimitation process, Kumar said the two activities are carried out under different legislative frameworks.

He said that every section of the community across the state will be considered fairly, within the legal framework and adhering to principles of equity.

Kumar said those who could not present their views before the ECI panel personally can send them through email or submit them through the Chief Electoral Officer or the DCs till April 15.

Taking into consideration all suggestions, the ECI will publish the draft proposal and give one month to the public for their suggestions, after which the panel will once again visit the state for a personal hearing, he added.

Telangana: Tehreek Muslim Shabban seeks eight pc reservations to Muslims before polls

    [ad_1]

The Tehreek Muslim Shabban, a city-based organization, on Tuesday, urged the Telangana government to allot eight percent reservations to Muslims before the next Assembly elections in the State.

“Eight years have passed since the formation of Telangana state, but the promise of 12 percent reservations for Muslims stands unfulfilled by the government. If not 12 percent, the BRS must at least approve eight percent reservation for Muslims,” said Tehreek Muslim Shabban president Mushtaq Malik.

Mallik questioned the government for ignoring Muslims and said “the State government has increased the reservation quotas for STs from six percent to 10 percent but no such announcement was made in regard to Muslim reservation.” he stated.

The BRS government had assured 12 percent reservation in its Election Manifesto but failed to implement or fulfill the promise”, Mustaq Malik added.

He further questioned the lack of Muslim representation and appointment of Muslims in crucial government departments and the Public Service Commission. He said the government has appointed 10 Vice Chancellors in different universities, but none from the Muslim community.

Except the appointment of 66 Urdu officers, very little has been done by the government for the welfare of Muslims. Not even four per cent Muslims are part of the 2BHK apartments allotted by the government while only 1.43% Muslims have been able to secure Gazetted officers posts in the State, he added.

He urged the government to “prioritize sanctioning of financial aid of one lakh rupees per head to more than 2, 16,000 applicants which have been pending for a long time” and help the youth fight joblessness. Mustaq Malik also requested the government to expedite construction of mosques inside the Telangana Secretariat complex, appoint a Musim candidate as the Minority Commission Chairman and increase their representation in the Public Service Commission.

He said “Sudhir commission was constituted to analyze the educational and financial status of Muslims, and approved its recommendations but Muslims are still awaiting this, ” he said.

The Tehreek Muslim Shabban will visit Karimnagar, Jagtial and Siddipet and campaign to create awareness, garner support and remind the government about its reservation promises”,he added.

Vice President of organization Abdul Haq, social activist Dr. Aleem Khan Falki, Saleem Al Hindi, Saleem Ilahi and others were also present on this occasion.

  • KCR cheated Muslims on 12 pc reservations: Revanth Reddy

KCR cheated Muslims on 12 pc reservations: Revanth Reddy

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President Revanth Reddy visited Warangal Assembly Constituency on the second day of his ‘Haath Se Haath Jodo Yatra’. He started the campaign from Daulatabad at 10 am and met the people. A meeting of key leaders of Daulatabad mandal was convened in which the campaign was reviewed.

While addressing the public meetings, Revanth Reddy highlighted the failures of the BRS and BJP governments. He urged the party workers to start preparing for the elections from now on as the next government will be of the Congress. He said the BRS government was harassing Congress leaders through false cases.

Revanth Reddy said that Muslims and tribal communities have been cheated in the name of reservation. “KCR had promised 12 percent reservation to Muslims, but no serious action was taken in this regard, even the existing four percent reservation for Muslims was not being implemented”, he alleged.

Revanth Reddy said the BJP and the BRS were creating an atmosphere of hatred in the country while the Congress had launched a Haath Se Haath Jodo Yatra to end hatred.

He said that the development works he had carried out as an MLA in Kodangal remain the same even today. However, the KCR government has ignored Kodangal’s development, he alleged.

He said Sonia Gandhi has given him the opportunity to sign B-forms for 119 assembly constituencies. He said Congress workers must be ready to fight against the failures of the government. There has been a secret understanding between the BRS and the BJP to weaken the Congress.

Revanth Reddy claimed that Congress will form government in Telangana from January 1, 2024. He said congress workers should prepare for the struggle against the injustices of the government.
