  • Minister threatens NLSIU to provide Karnataka locals 25% reservation

Minister threatens NLSIU to provide Karnataka locals 25% reservation

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Karnataka Law Minister J.C. Madhu Swamy said on Tuesday that if the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru refuses to provide 25 percent reservation for Kannadiga students, the BJP government in the state would initiate action against it.

“If the university fails to provide reservation lawfully, we will not hesitate to take action,” he reiterated on the floor of the Assembly on Tuesday.

BJP MLA S. Suresh Kumar had raised the question in this regard.

“The stand of the state is very clear on this issue. We are committed to providing reservation to our children,” Madhu Swamy said.

“The matter is coming up before the Supreme Court on February 24 and we are hopeful that we will get justice. The Supreme Court has also expressed the same feelings which we have. NLSIU was questioned as to why reservation is not given in Karnataka when it has been provided in other states,” he said.

Karnataka has appointed Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta to argue its case.

“If reservation is not provided, initiating legal action would become inevitable. Let’s wait. As we are reposing faith in the judiciary, let us not go for harsh action at this stage,” Madhu Swamy ssaid.

Suresh Kumar said that the NLSIU is not providing reservation to Kannadiga students, flouting the law.

“The college management has not followed the law for two years. The state had given land to establish the university. There is no gratitude from the university towards the state. The funds to the university should be stopped,” Suresh Kumar demanded.

The institution was given 23 acres of land and Rs 22 crore funds by the Karnataka government.

“But our children are not getting seats there,” Suresh Kumar said.

Former Speaker and BJP MLA K.G. Bopaiah said the university is behaving as if it doesn’t have any accountability towards the Karnataka government.

Congress MLA Krishna Bhyregowda said that the matter is very sensitive as the Chief Justice of India is the President of the administrative board of NLSIU.

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday announced that Scheduled Caste (SC) employees in the state would get reservations in promotion.

Participating in the state-level function organised in Narwana town in Jind district on the occasion of the 646th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas, he made several announcements.

For the first time, three state-level functions were organised to mark Guru Ravidas celebrations in Jind, Yamunanagar and Gurugram.

While making one of the major announcements for the SC employees working with the state government, the Chief Minister said all such employees would get a reservation in promotion. For this, quotas will be fixed within three months after identifying all cadres.

The Chief Minister said the medical college to be built in Rasulpur village in Fatehabad district would be named after Saint Shiromani Guru Ravidasji.

Besides, a chair will be established at Chaudhary Devi Lal University in Sirsa in the name of Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidasji for conducting research on his ideas and teachings.

He said the land has been identified for building a memorial near Pipli in Kurukshetra district in the name of Saint Shiromani Guru Ravidasji, on which a big memorial will be built in his name. A hostel and school will also be built.

Announcing assistance to the families belonging to the SC who wish to set up industries, Khattar said 20 percent discount will be given on the purchase of land for setting up small and micro industries.

Till now, a 10 percent discount is given. Apart from this, the SCs will also get additional interest subvention of 20 percent on the loan taken for doing business, the Chief Minister said.

He said people should also cooperate in opening a unit of Dr Ambedkar Chamber of Commerce in Haryana as well.

A Venture Capital Fund would be created to provide financial assistance on behalf of the government to promote self-employment and entrepreneurship opportunities to the youth belonging to the SCs.

He said about 32 percent of children belonging to Scheduled Caste community are getting an education. “This percentage clearly shows that society is certainly moving towards progress. Free coaching will be provided for these children to pursue higher education and prepare for competitive exams,” the Chief Minister said.

He also announced Rs 21 lakh for the renovation of Sant Ravidas dharamshala in Narwana.

  • Chhattisgarh: Bhim Army stages protest demanding 16pc reservation for SCs

Chhattisgarh: Bhim Army stages protest demanding 16pc reservation for SCs

    [ad_1]

Raipur: Bhim Army staged a protest demanding 16 per cent reservation for the Scheduled Castes category at Budha Talab area in the state capital Raipur on Thursday.

Founder and National president of Bhim Army, Chandrashekhar Azad also participated in the protests and said that the state government should stop playing with the society, otherwise they would have to face consequences in the upcoming assembly elections in the state.

A huge number of protestors gathered and also took out a rally on the occasion. They tried to gheraoed CM’s house but the police stopped them near the Smart City. After which they submitted a memorandum to the administration.

Addressing the gathering, Azad said, “Today we have gathered here to strengthen the demand of the movement, which has been going in Raipur for the last one month. Our main demand is that when the BJP government was in power in 2008, they reduced the reservation for scheduled castes from 16 per cent to 12 per cent in the state. During the 2018 assembly election, the present Congress-led state government had promised that BJP had done injustice and if the congress government would come back in power then they would restore it.”

“It has been more than four years but still Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has not fulfilled the promises made by him. We have come here to remind them about his promises. Today is our symbolic demonstration. We have given one month’s time to the Chief Minister, if our demand is not fulfilled, then after March 2, we will organise a big movement in Raipur by calling the people across the state. We will gheraoed the CM House. We will visit all the gram sabhas, towns and cities across the state and will expose the lies of the government among the people. We oppose whatever unconstitutional action is being taken by the government,” he added.

“People moving ahead by the reservation given by Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar should not work against the society at the behest of the government. The people of Chhattisgarh will teach them a lesson,” Azad added.
