Further, he told them to strive to find opportunities for women for whom the state government is implementing a plethora of welfare schemes such as YSR Cheyutha, Asara, Kapu Nestham and EBC Nestham which offer bank loans.

In addition to forging tie-ups with multi-national companies for selling the wares of these women, the CM noted that officials should encourage them to grow in to entrepreneurs during the same year they receive the benefits.

Meanwhile, officials said as many as nine lakh SC, ST, BC and minority women have started their own business enterprises with the help of YSR Cheyutha scheme, by teaming up with companies such as Hindustan Uniliver, ITC, Reliance, Mahindra and P&G for marketing their products.

British man pleads guilty to ISIS related terror charges in UK

    [ad_1]

London: A British man arrested at Heathrow Airport over a year ago when he flew back from Pakistan pleaded guilty on Friday to travelling to Syria to join the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist network.

Shabazz Suleman, who grew up in the High Wycombe area of Buckinghamshire in south-east England, was due to study international relations at university when he vanished while on a family holiday to Turkey in 2014, aged 19.

He was arrested after returning to the UK via Pakistan in October 2021 and charged with a string of terror offences and was due to face trial at the Old Bailey court in London next month. He has now pleaded guilty to preparing acts of terrorism by travelling from the UK to Turkey in order to join ISIS in Syria in August 2014.

Now aged 27, Suleman was also charged with being a member of ISIS, a proscribed organisation, between 2014 and 2017, and receiving training in the use of firearms. Judge Mark Lucraft remanded him in custody until sentencing on May 26.

In an interview with Sky News’ in 2017, Suleman had claimed he spent most of his three years in terrorist territory playing PlayStation and riding his bike.

He spoke about how he’d gone into hiding to try to avoid fighting, sitting in various houses in Raqqa playing Grand Theft Auto or Metal Gear Solid on a PlayStation and having “a normal life in IS territory”.

In Syria, he is said to have assumed the name Abu Shamil al-Britani and is alleged to have carried out guard duty and patrols for ISIS. By June 2015 he had reportedly become disillusioned, saying, “I never thought I was being brainwashed until I saw the way they treat other Sunnis”.

Speaking after leaving ISIS, Suleman told Sky News’: “I take responsibility. I was with ISIS, I was with a terrorist organisation. But I didn’t kill anyone, I hope I didn’t oppress anyone.

“I did have Kalashnikov and a military uniform, but I didn’t hit anyone, I didn’t oppress anyone, if you understand. I was there with military police but like I said, I was in the office.”

Suleman is believed to be among hundreds of British nationals who travelled to the Middle East to join the ranks of ISIS and other terror networks in Syria and Iraq over the years.

NCERT removes portions related to RSS, Gandhi & Godse from books

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has removed paragraphs from Class 12 Political Science textbooks that contained information about the ban briefly imposed on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) by the then government after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

Along with this, paragraphs which stated that Gandhi’s quest for Hindu-Muslim unity provoked Hindu extremists have also been removed from the curriculum.

Significantly, NCERT had made several changes in the textbooks of Class 6 to Class 12 last year. Among these, chapters titled ‘Rise of Popular Movements’ and ‘Era of One Party Dominance’ were removed from Class 12 textbook, ‘Politics in India since Independence’.

    MS Education Academy

Similarly, chapters on ‘Democracy and Diversity’, ‘Popular Struggles and Movements’, and ‘Challenges to Democracy’ were removed from Class 10 textbook ‘Democratic Politics-II’.

Significantly, in the last 15 years, Nathuram Godse was referred to in the History book of Class 12 as a ‘Brahmin from Pune’ who assassinated Gandhi, which has been removed now.

As per NCERT, they had been receiving complaints of Godse’s caste mentioned in the books from CBSE and several state education boards since long, stating that one’s caste should not be unnecessarily mentioned in school textbooks.

Speaking on the matter in Parliament, Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi stated that the syllabus of books was rationalised in view of the loss of education in the pandemic and it was done to reduce the stress faced by students.

NCERT Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani said that the load of textbooks was reduced as the students had suffered a lot in the pandemic and it was an attempt to help the stressed students and as a responsibility towards society and the nation.

Along with this, the NCERT has categorically rejected allegations that the changes have been made to suit a particular ideology.

New NCERT books have arrived for the new session this year. Last year, many chapters and facts were removed from the books of various subjects in NCERT. With these changes made by NCERT, now these new books are being made available for the students.

According to RBI, it introduced a Special Ex-gratia Package and a Special Scheme of Compassionate Appointment for dependents of employees dying in harness due to Covid or due to post-Covid complications happening within six months of last such infection since March 1, 2020.

“As on December 31, 2022, dependents of 46 deceased employees were paid the ex-gratia amount and dependents of 32 deceased employees accepted compassionate appointment in addition to the ex-gratia package,” it said.

In addition, the offer of compassionate appointment was also extended to either the spouse or any one eligible dependent child of full-time regular employees on fulfilment of stipulated age and eligibility criteria.

To tackle the challenges posed by the pandemic, RBI mobilised at an unprecedented scale and speed to put in place a cross-functional response to safeguard lives and livelihood of the people as well as insulate the economy and the financial sector.

These measures were taken to ensure uninterrupted conduct of its crucial functions and maintaining business continuity; supporting its employees, service providers and other stakeholders.

“More than one hundred measures, both conventional and unconventional, were undertaken during the period. The effort was to be proactive and innovative, while remaining on guard to preserve financial stability,” it said.

In the foreword to the compendium, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said Business Continuity Management (BCM) has hitherto meant protecting organisations against events like natural calamities, geo-political disturbances, cyber attacks and other disruptions that have the potential of interrupting smooth functioning of an organisation.

“An unknown virus, i.e., coronavirus, of the size of 0.125 microns, unleashed a once in a century pandemic and completely redefined our understanding of BCM,” he said.

Das said through the troubled times, RBI had to continually assess and revalidate its readiness for uninterrupted operations, leverage varied data feeds for continuous monitoring, consider consequences and impacts of its measures, and design and implement rapid but coordinated responses across verticals.

“We also proactively communicated through public statements and in other forms of guidance, reassuring the public at large about the stability and resilience of the financial system while supporting banks and financial institutions and the economy as a whole.

“Our basic message was: RBI is tirelessly at work to shield the Indian economy from the pandemic,” he said.

The compendium said one of the major challenges faced included, ensuring sufficient printing of currency, timely supply of currency and ensuring availability of currency at the last point while bearing in mind the safety of treasure and human resources involved.

“Execution of (these) activities involved considerable coordination with the multiple stakeholders in the network,” it said.

To deal with the challenges posed by the pandemic, RBI took slew of measures, including those related to monetary policy, liquidity management, and regulation.

“While the pandemic threatened to cause never-before disruptions across the business landscape, recognising its people as pivots, RBI chose to assign primacy to employee empathy so that the workforce well-being is not compromised and the employees remain safe and motivated,” it said.

Hyderabad: L&T denies metro related concerns; issues clarification

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Larsen and Turbo (L&T) spokesperson for the Hyderabad metro rail on Tuesday denied a report published in a vernacular newspaper that the metro was “making sound and peeling off”.

“As per L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail’s SOP, we do regular preventive maintenance work for all the civil structures including viaduct parapets across the metro rail network. During these preventive measures, wherever any superficial hairline cracks are noticed, which is a common phenomenon for areas subjected to continuous vibrations, we rectify them immediately by applying an epoxy coating for protection from weather and as a proactive measure towards the safety of the public,” said the statement issued by L&T.

L&T further said that the contextualized photographs shown in the article are incorrect and misleading in nature, as they are in fact those of post rectification work process for hairline cracks, and not any cement peeling off as claimed in the story.

The statement further read, “Regarding noises, Hyderabad Metro Rail is the only metro in the country, to have such a unique alignment with many sharp curves and steep gradients due to the topography of Hyderabad city. Under these circumstances, rail and wheel metal interaction creates more vibrations and screeching sounds, compared to straight-line metros. To address this issue, regular monitoring of the structure is done as part of the SOP, which also includes continuous/frequent track lubrication to reduce both vibration and noise levels.”

“We also monitor the noise levels regularly and the values are kept well within the permissible limits,” L&T added.

  • Issues related to Joshimath sinking before HC: Uttarakhand govt to Delhi HC

Issues related to Joshimath sinking before HC: Uttarakhand govt to Delhi HC

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Issues related to the sinking of Joshimath are being looked into by the high court in Uttarakhand following an order of the Supreme Court, the Delhi High Court was informed on Tuesday.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma was hearing a petition by lawyer Rohit Dandriyal seeking to direct the Centre to constitute a committee headed by a retired judge to look into the matter and rehabilitate the affected families soon.

The petitioner’s “prayers have already been met”, counsel for the Uttarakhand government told a bench, also comprising Justice Subramonium Prasad.

“There are two things. He (petitioner) is asking for a high-powered committee and rehabilitation. Both the issues, the Supreme Court has sent to Uttarakhand. All that is now before the Uttarakhand High Court,” he said.

The plea was subsequently withdrawn by the petitioner from the high court.

Last month, the Uttarakhand government told the bench that authorities were rehabilitating the affected families of Joshimath and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) as well as the SDRF have also been deployed in the area. It also claimed that a rehabilitation package was being prepared and a lot of relief work was going on.

Joshimath, the gateway to famous pilgrimage sites like Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib and international skiing destination Auli, is sinking gradually with huge cracks developing in houses, roads and fields there. Many houses have suffered subsidence, locals said.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had earlier ordered immediate evacuation of 600 families living in houses at risk.

Highlighting the problems of over 3,000 people in the town, Dandriya’s plea claimed that cracks have been developed in at least 570 houses due to continued land subsidence.

It said construction activities done by the Ministries of Road Transport and Highways and Power, New and Renewable Energy in past years have worked as catalyst in the present scenario and have violated the fundament rights of residents in the town.

On January 16, the Supreme Court refused to entertain a plea seeking to declare the crisis in subsidence-hit Joshimath a national disaster, saying the state high court is seized of a “broad range of issues” and should hear it as a matter of principle.
