Another FIR registered by Bihar Police for ‘fake’ videos of attacks on migrants in TN

    [ad_1]

Patna: Days after the arrest of a man for allegedly sharing “fake” videos of attacks on migrants in Tamil Nadu on social media, the Bihar Police on Friday registered a fresh FIR against four persons as part of its probe into the case.

The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the state police filed the FIR against Youtuber Manish Kashyap, Yuvraj Singh and two others “on the charges of indulging in spreading fake videos of migrants being killed and beaten up in Tamil Nadu on social media”, a senior officer said.

“Despite repeated summons by investigators, both Manish Kashyap and Yuvraj Singh did not turn up before the EOU sleuths. They are absconding. Now the EOU has initiated a process to arrest them,” Bihar Police (Headquarters) Additional Director General JS Gangwar told reporters here on Friday.

The EOU had on March 6 registered its first FIR in connection with the case and booked four persons.

Those named in the case are Aman Kumar, Rakesh Tiwary, Yuvraj Singh Rajput and Manish Kashyap.

It had already arrested Kumar from Jamui in connection with its probe into the case.

“Investigations by the EOU have revealed that the accused were indulging in spreading fake videos of migrants being killed and beaten up in Tamil Nadu on social media. Thirty such videos were shared on social media, forcing migrant workers from Bihar to flee Tamil Nadu in panic”.

Notices have already been sent to social media service providers for “preserving 42 such videos for further investigation”, the ADG said.

“A 10-member team of the EOU is analysing these videos…and those posting and sharing such videos for spreading rumours will be dealt with strictly. The Tamil Nadu police have also registered 13 cases to probe the matter,” Gangwar said.

The Tamil Nadu administration has opened help desks for the people to lodge complaints against those who are indulging in such activities and also for those who need any assistance, he said.

The Bihar government had, last week, sent a four-member team to the southern state to coordinate with officers who were investigating the matter there.

  • Case Registered Against MC Chairman Pulwama for ‘Misbehaving’ With Doctor

    [ad_1]

Srinagar, Mar 3 (GNS): A case has been registered against Municipal Councilor Chairman Pulwama over his alleged misbehavior with a doctor at District Hospital Pulwama earlier this week.

A doctor at District Hospital Pulwama told GNS that the police registered a First Investigation Report (FIR) against Municipal Council Chairman Bilal Ahmad Rather over ‘misbehaving with a doctor at District Hospital (Pulwama) on February 27, during evening hours’.

“On 27-02-2023 at around 6.30 pm, a man namely Bilal Ahmad Rather, who is chairman of Municipal Council, barged in the duty room of a doctor who was on duty in the emergency department of the hospital. As soon as the person entered the hospital, the person started shouting and barged into the duty room of a doctor. He made a huge hue and cry and misbehaved with the doctor”, the doctor reading out the FIR copy said.

“There were many sick patients in the hospital at the time when the person made his entry into the hospital and the person shouted & hurled abuse at the doctor and was in a very aggressive mood. He was about to assault the doctor and wouldn’t have managed to stay away from this person. Meanwhile he obstructed the doctor who was discharging his duties towards his patients and made ruckus in the casualty department and was asking for a lock and key to lock the hospital, as seen in the video footage which created disruption in the patient care and could have caused death or serious complications to the critical patients admitted in the hospital”, the doctor said.

The doctor said, the police were requested to take cognizance of this episode in light of the video footage which has gone viral on social media, so that such ugly incidents don’t happen which will affect the safety of doctors besides working in hospitals and patient care.

“Taking cognizance of the incident, the police accordingly registered an FIR under sections 353/506 IPC in police station Pulwama against the accused”, the doctor further said. (GNS)

  • Spain passes law allowing anyone over 16 to change registered gender

Spain passes law allowing anyone over 16 to change registered gender

    [ad_1]

Spain’s parliament has approved new legislation that will allow anyone over 16 to change their legally registered gender, ease abortion limits for those aged 16 and 17, and make the country the first in Europe in Europe to introduce paid menstrual leave.

The new transgender law – which was passed despite protests from feminist groups, warnings from opposition parties, and amid tensions between different wings of the Socialist-led coalition government – means that anyone aged over 16 will be able to change their gender on official documents without medical supervision.

However, a judge will need to authorise the change for minors aged between 12 and 14, while those aged between 14 and 16 will need the consent of their parents or guardians. No such changes will be available to those under the age of 12.

The law will also see a ban on conversion therapy – punishable by hefty fines – and an end to public subsidies for groups that “incite or promote LGBTIphobia”.

The new abortion legislation does away with a a 2015 measure, introduced by the conservative People’s party (PP), which requires women aged 16 and 17 to obtain parental consent for abortions. It also scraps the current three-day period of reflection for those seeking a termination, and aims to make it far easier for women to access abortion in public hospitals and clinics.

Thursday’s vote introduces up to five days of menstrual leave for women who have incapacitating periods. According to the Spanish Gynaecological and Obstetric Society, a third of women experience dysmenorrhoea, or painful menstruation. Accompanying measures include the free provision of free sanitary products in schools, prisons and women’s centres to tackle “period poverty”.

Spain’s equality minister, Irene Montero, began her speech to congress on Thursday by thanking Spain’s LGBTQ+ community and trans collectives for helping to get the law passed – and for “saving many lives” in the absence of government intervention.

Montero, who belongs to the Socialists’ junior coalition partners, the far-left, anti-austerity Podemos partner, said the new law was about the state guaranteeing basic rights.

“This is a law that recognises trans people’s right to freely decide their gender identity, she said. “It stops trans realities being treated as abnormalities. Trans people aren’t sick people; they’re people – full stop. They are who they are – full stop. Trans women are women – full stop. From today, the state recognises that.”

However, the PP accused the government of introducing more ill-considered legislation in the wake of the botched “only-yes-means-yes” sexual consent law that has allowed some convicted sex offenders to have their sentences retrospectively reduced. The Socialists have promised to correct the “undesired effects” of that law, angering their partners in Podemos, which pushed the new consent legislation and still defends it.

Before the trans law passed by 191 votes in favour, 60 against and with 91 abstentions, the PP warned the government it was going too far, too fast.

“We all know of other countries that have backtracked on their ‘trans laws’ because they now know that they got ahead of themselves and that that caused a lot of suffering,” said a party spokesperson, María Jesús Moro. “Let’s not have the same thing here.”

She added: “We don’t want to see a new and unbearable rollcall of victims just days after this new law comes into effect. We don’t want a remake of the ‘only-yes-means-yes’ law.”

However, the new law was welcomed by Uge Sangil, the head of FELGBTI+, Spain’s largest LGBTQ+ organisation.

“We’re celebrating the fact this law has passed after eight years of tireless work to obtain rights for the trans community,” Sangil told Agence France-Presse outside parliament.

“We’re winning human rights with the free determination of gender … From today, our lives will change because we are not ill.”

In recent years, several European nations that pioneered transgender legislation have had second thoughts.

Among those to have reimposed restrictions are Sweden and Finland, while in the UK, Westminster last month blocked a Scottish trans rights law similar to Spain’s.

The bitter dispute over transgender issues played a role in Wednesday’s shock resignation of Scotland’s first minister, Nicola Sturgeon.

Although she had championed the law, Sturgeon became entangled in a major row over transgender women entering all-female prisons, after a rape case that caused a public outcry.

A year ago, Sweden decided to halt hormone therapy for minors except in very rare cases.

In December, it limited mastectomies for girls wanting to transition, to a research setting, citing the need for “caution”.

The decision followed moves by Finland, which decided to restrict gender reassignment hormone treatment for similar reasons in 2020.

  • Hyderabad: 4,872 units of residential properties registered in January

Hyderabad: 4,872 units of residential properties registered in January

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: In the latest assessment, Knight Frank India noted that Hyderabad recorded registrations of 4,872 units of residential properties in January 2023 while the total value of properties registered in month stood at Rs 2,494 crore. There has been a moderation in registration of home sales in January to the tune of 35% YoY while collections from registration have reduced for January by 26% year on year. The Hyderabad residential market includes four districts namely Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy and Sangareddy.

The Hyderabad residential market has in the past demonstrated irregular trends with a few months in each year recording reduced activities. This has been for two main reasons firstly, the buyer behaviour is unpredictable due to its price sensitive characteristics. Thus, buyers flock the market when they are presented with lucrative deals, therefore months coinciding with key events like salary revisions, festive seasons that bring in rebates etc. see higher volume of activities. Secondly, sales of homes are not registered at the time of purchase, therefore if the majority sales in a month happens in under construction properties with longer lead time to delivery, the cumulative volume of registrations tend to be lower that month. The city has also seen a rise in average prices in the last few quarters which may has also contributed to the slowdown in overall sales momentum.

Registrations in residential units in the price band of INR 2.5 – 5 Mn (INR 25 – 50 lakhs) remained highest constituting 54% of the total registrations in January 2023, which is an increase from a share of 39% in January 2022. Demand in the less than INR 2.5 mn (INR 25 Lakhs) ticket-size weakened with its share constituting 18% compared to 36% a year ago. Greater demand for larger ticket size homes remained evident as the cumulative share of sales registrations for properties with ticket-sizes of INR 5 Mn and above (> INR 50 lakhs) increased to 28% in January 2023 from 25% in January 2022.

In January 2023, the share of registrations in unit category of properties sized 500 – 1000 square feet increased to 17% compared to 15% observed in January 2022 while share of properties sized 1,000-2,000 square feet remained highest with a total share of 71% in January 2023, slightly lower than 72% witnessed in January 2022.

At district level, the study shows that home sales registrations in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district was recorded at 41% followed by Rangareddy district at 35%. The share of Hyderabad district in total registrations was recorded at 15% in January 2023.

The weighted average prices of transacted residential properties have increased by 16% YoY in January 2023. Sangareddy district saw the steepest rise of 48% YoY in January 2023 indicating more higher value homes were sold in this location during this period. Price growth in the Hyderabad market has been strong in recent times.
