    Srinagar, April 01: Body of minor girl who slipped into an irrigational canal in Perniya area of North Kashmir Baramulla district on Saturday has been recovered.

    An official told Kashmir Scroll that morning a girl while waiting for the school bus along LJHP canal slipped and fell into the canal.

    The girl has been identified as Rukaya Bashir (14) daughter of Bashir Ahmad Ganaie resident of Nowpora Kreeri who is student of 9th class, Syed Sakhi Nowshera high school.

    Soon after the incident, rescue operation was started and after hectic efforts, body was retrieved almost a kilometre away from whe she had drowned, official said.

    He said that body is being handed over to legal heirs after legal-medico formalities.

    IIT-B condoles death of Dalit student, orders probe

    Mumbai: The special investigation team (SIT) of Mumbai police probing the death of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay student Darshan Solanki has recovered a note that mentions the name of his hostel mate, an official said on Monday.

    The purported suicide note, written on a piece of paper, was recovered from Solanki’s hostel room some days ago, he added.

    Solanki, a resident of Ahmedabad in Gujarat, had allegedly committed suicide on February 12 by jumping off the seventh floor of the hostel building.

    The official said the note mentions harassment meted out by the engineering student who has been named.

    This student stays on the same floor of the hostel and had allegedly threatened Solanki after a dispute, the official said quoting the note.

    The process of registering an abetment of suicide case was underway, he added.

    Solanki’s parents and some student organisations had alleged caste discrimination as the cause of his death.

    The Maharashtra government had formed an SIT headed by Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Lakhmi Gautam to probe the case.

    KULGAM, MARCH 24: Following the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, SDM Noorabad Bashir ul Hassan led a joint market checking team which carried out intensive checking in D.H.Pora market today.

    He was accompanied by SDPO, D H Pora Dr. Showkat Ahmed, BMO, TSO and other officers.

    During the market checking، an amount of Rs 2600 fine was recovered from violators, while one shop was also sealed.

    SDM while interacting with the customers urged them to be aware about their rights.

    He added that to curb over pricing and other violations market checking drives will continue in the subdivision۔

    SRINAGAR: An unidentified body was recovered from a Nallah in Inderkoot area of Sumbal in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday afternoon, officials said.

    Quoting an official, news agency KNO reported that the body was spotted by locals, who later informed the police.

    He said that a police team reached to the spot and the body was shifted to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities.

    The official said the identification of the body is being ascertained, while investigation has been taken up.

    Lahore: Police on Saturday allegedly recovered assault rifles and ammunition from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s Zaman Park mansion in a search operation, while detaining over 60 party cohorts accused of resorting to hostilities to obstruct the law, media reports said.

    Pakistan Punjab’s Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar, in a press conference, said police had finished the search and cleanup operation in Zaman Park and took into custody AK-47 assault rifles and a large number of bullets from Imran Khan’s mansion in Lahore’s posh neighbourhood, Geo News reported.

    Moreover, glass bottles, suspected to be used in making Molotov cocktails, and hundreds of marbles for being shot at police with slingshots were also collected.

    Later, Anwar said five more Kalashnikovs were also found on Khan’s property. To a question, the IG said the legal status of the guns – whether they were licensed or not – was being evaluated, Geo News reported.

    He said before the operation, the roads around the park were blocked with shipping containers, “which now have been cleared”.

    “The police broke the main gate with an excavator and entered Imran Khan’s house,” the police official said, adding that a curtain had been placed on the broken gate, Geo News reported.

    The police and PTI supporters recently fought pitched battles outside the former Prime Minister’s home in Lahore, wounding several on both sides when the former tried to arrest Khan.

    Hours after Khan hit the road to attend the Toshakhana case hearing in the capital on Saturday, Punjab Police barged into his residence.

    The police operation was launched this morning to clear the area of ‘security camps’ established by the party.

    Television footage showed police entering the Khan’s eight kanal house after using an excavator to bring down the main iron gate of the house. A number of PTI workers were also taken into custody.

    Srinagar, Mar 13: Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday said it busted a LeT militant hideout and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in Rakh Momin area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

    In a statement, issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said on the intervening night of 12th and 13th of March on the basis of a specific input developed over a period of time by Anantnag Police, a joint CASO along with army’s 1RR was launched in Rakh Momin Dangi area Bijbehara.

    The statement reads search in the area led to busting of a LET hideout and subsequent recovery of huge cache of arms, ammunition and other war like stores.

    It reads the recovery includes IED’s (05 No’s) PTD’s programmed timer devices and RCIEDs, Detonators (06 No’s), Pistols (03 No’s), Pistol Magazines (05 No’s), Ammunition (09mm rounds = 124 No’s), Remote controls (04 No’s) and Batteries (13 No’s).

    “In this regard, Case FIR No. 58/2023 stands registered in PS Bijbehara under relevant sections of law and investigation set into motion,” it reads—(KNO)

    SRINAGAR: A consignment of arms, narcotics and a suspected material, believed to be an IED, has been recovered by Army on the Line of Control in Rajouri district.

    The recovery has been made from Saryah area in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.

    Officials said that Army deployed on LoC in Lam made this recovery during an operation in the forward area.

    Srinagar, March 12:  Police on Sunday claimed to have busted a hideout and recovered arms and ammunition in Hangnikoot area of North Kashmir’s Handwara.

    In a handout to GNS, the police said that on 11 March 2023, a search was conducted by Handwara Police in Shalnar Hangnikoot. During search of the area, an old dump of arms and ammunition was unearthed which included 01 AK 47 rifle with 02 magazines and 75 rounds, 10 grenades, 26 Ubgl grenades, 08 UBGL boosters, 02 Flame throwers, 05 Rocket shells and 03 rocket boosters.

    According to police spokesman, based on this, FIR no. 19/2023 has been registered at Police Station Vilgam under relevant sections of law and investigation initiated, it said.(GNS)
