Telangana: 2 lakh women receive refund of 217 cr in SHG accounts

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Around two lakh Self Help Group (SHGs) women in the State have received a refund of Rs 217.61 crore after Finance Minister T Harish Rao instructed bankers to verify the SHG loan accounts.

The move comes after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) ordered banks to charge a concessional interest rate of 7% for loans, upto Rs 3 lakh for rural SHGs and 10% for loans beyond Rs 5 lakh, whichever is lower.

Following the RBI guidelines, a state-level bankers committee (SLBC) meeting was held on December 23 last year where Rao instructed them to refund excess interest if collected.

“Harish Rao has learned that a few banks have not complied with this law and have instead accrued higher interest. Even within the same bank, there were variations in the interest rates that were collected. The pastor discovered that the self-help group members were losing money by paying exorbitant interest rates,” a press release said.

  • Telangana: Over 90k farmer families receive Rs 4.8 crore under Rythu Bima

Telangana: Over 90k farmer families receive Rs 4.8 crore under Rythu Bima

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Over 97,913 farmers in the state have received nearly Rs 4,896 crore under the Rythu Bima, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari said here at a review meeting with the agriculture department at BRKR Bhavan on Wednesday.

The Rythu Bima or Farmers Group Life Insurance Scheme is a welfare scheme introduced by the KCR government in 2018. It provides financial relief and social security to farmers or their relations in cases of farmer deaths. Farmers between the age group of 18-59 years can avail the insurance.

In the meeting, it was revealed that around 65 lakh farmers had received Rs.65,191 crore under the Rythu Bandhu welfare scheme.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary said that many agricultural goals were achieved after the state was formed.

“The goal of one crore acres of Magani has been achieved due to pro-agricultural policies. Schemes such as the Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, 24-hour electricity supply, purchase of agricultural produce, have given a big boost to farmers,” she said.

“During Vanakalam and Yasangi season, paddy is cultivated in a total of one crore twenty lakh acres of land statewide. After paddy, cotton is grown on 56.37 lakh acres of land. Telangana is second and third in rice and cotton production respectively,” she remarked.

On the sale of fake seeds to farmers, she said that the government has taken appropriate steps to deal with the issue. “As many as 551 people have been arrested and 347 cases have been registered. Out of these, 16 people have been booked under the PD Act and 11,872 quintals of fake seeds have been seized,” she informed.

To educate farmers on new agriculture tools and technologies, a special steering committee has been formed under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary has been formed.

The Chief Secretary also suggested that horticulture should be encouraged among the farming community to grow more vegetables.

On the sale of adulterated oils, the Chief Secretary asked officials to take stricter steps to curb the menace.

Twitter employees to soon receive stock awards: Musk

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: After another round of layoffs over the weekend, Twitter CEO Elon Musk informed the remaining employees that they will receive acevery significant” performance-based stock awards on March 24.

“This past week, we completed a difficult organisational overhaul focused on improving future execution, using as much feedback as we could gather from the entire company,” Musk wrote in an internal memo on Monday obtained by The Verge.

“Those who remain are highly regarded by those around them,” he added.

The memo, titled “Performance Awards”, was Musk’s first message to Twitter staff since he fired hundreds more employees over the weekend, including some senior loyalists and almost the whole product team.

However, he hasn’t yet shared any details about “how he will make up for the stock awards that went away when he took Twitter private”, the report said.

He also previously made internal comments in which he mentioned the structure he established at SpaceX to allow employees to regularly sell the company’s stock to interested investors.

Now, the company likely has less than 2,000 employees, which was about 7,500 when Musk took over.

“I think he’s just tearing this thing down to the studs and trying to run as lean as possible till the market turns around,” a recently laid-off employee said.

Recently, more than 50 employees were laid off, which were spread across several departments.

Twitter product manager Esther Crawford, who led the Blue project and Martijn de Kuijper, the creator of the now-shuttered Revue newsletter platform that Twitter acquired in 2021, were among them.

With this recent cut, Musk has done at least four rounds of layoffs.

This is happening despite his promise not to sack more employees after his brutal layoff exercise in November last year that affected two-thirds of the micro-blogging platform’s 7,500 employees.

  • Jimmy Carter to receive hospice care at Georgia home

Jimmy Carter to receive hospice care at Georgia home

    [ad_1]

    gettyimages 484579098

“I saw both of my grandparents yesterday,” former Georgia state Sen. Jason Carter tweeted. “They are at peace and—as always—their home is full of love. Thank you all for your kind words.”

Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock tweeted: “Across life’s seasons, President Jimmy Carter, a man of great faith, has walked with God. In this tender time of transitioning, God is surely walking with him. May he, Rosalynn & the entire Carter family be comforted with that peace and surrounded by our love & prayers.”

The Carters live in Plains, Georgia, a rural farming community where they both were born.

Carter won the 1976 presidential election after beginning the campaign as a little-known Democratic Georgia governor. He went on to defeat President Gerald Ford in the general election.

He served a single, tumultuous term and was defeated by Republican Ronald Reagan in 1980.

Carter governed amid Cold War pressures, turbulent oil markets and social upheaval over racism, women’s rights and America’s global role.

His foreign policy wins included brokering Mideast peace by keeping Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin at the bargaining table for 13 days in 1978.

Carter also built on Nixon’s opening with China, and though he tolerated autocrats in Asia, pushed Latin America from dictatorships to democracy.

But Carter’s electoral coalition splintered under double-digit inflation, gasoline lines and the 444-day hostage crisis in Iran. His bleakest hour came when eight Americans died in a failed hostage rescue in April 1980, helping to ensure his landslide defeat.

After his presidency, Carter founded The Carter Center alongside his wife, Rosalynn. His diplomatic work there garnered a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

Shayna Greene and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
