  • Govt Forms IDCC For Digital Communication Readiness Index

    Srinagar, April 28 (GNS): The Government on Friday accorded sanction to the constitution of Inter- departmental Coordination Committee (IDCC) for recommending policy reforms for implementing Digital Communication Readiness Index (DCRI) framework and recommend policy reforms in J&K.

    Headed by Chief Secretary, J&K, the 12-member committee has also been tasked to conduct quarterly review of progress on the implementation of DCRI framework, according to an order issued by the government, a copy of which lies with GNS.

    As per the order, the Committee is required to start preparatory exercise and undertake initiatives for implementing DCRI framework and recommend the policy reforms in the J&K.

    The members of the committee include Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of Forest, Ecology & Environment; Principal Secretary to the Government, Industries and Commerce Department; Principal Secretary to the Government, Power Development Department; Principal Secretary to the Government, Housing & Urban Development Department; Principal Secretary to the Government, School Education Department; Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj; Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Information Technology Department; Secretary to the Government, Health & Medical Education Department; Chief Executive Officer, JaKeGA-Information Technology Department; Representative of Department Telecommunication, Government of India (Not below the rank of Director LSA, J&K) and any officer/official/expert to be co-opted as Special Invitee with the approval of Chairman.     Saudi Arabia signals readiness to provide more credit to Pakistan

    Islamabad: Pakistan claimed that it received an indication from Saudi Arabia for additional loans that may help to break gridlock with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

    “We have received an indication from Saudi Arabia about getting something,” Dr Aisha Pasha, the Minister of State for Finance, said after attending a meeting of a parliamentary committee, without explaining the loan amount, The Express Tribune reported.

    She also informed the Senate Standing Committee on Finance that some progress was made a day earlier on a friendly country deposit, saying, “we will soon reach the stage to sign the Staff-Level Agreement with the IMF”.

    The IMF has asked Pakistan to arrange $6 billion in additional loans and at least half of those must be materialised before the board meeting.

    The funds are needed to avoid sovereign default and also increasing the foreign exchange reserves to a level sufficient to back 1.7 months of imports, Express Tribune reported.

    Pakistan had told the IMF that it would get $2 billion in additional loans from Saudi Arabia and $1 billion from the UAE to meet the additional financing requirements.

    Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salim Al-Zaabi, Ambassador of the UAE also called on Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

    Dar highlighted various avenues in which both countries could enhance their existing trade and investment relations.

    Yemen, Saudi-led coalition discuss combat readiness of troops

    Aden: Yemen’s Defence Minister received a military delegation from the Saudi Arabia-led coalition in the country’s southern port city of Aden, according to state media.

    Mohsen Muhammad Al-Daeri, along with local Yemeni government officials, held a meeting with the high-ranking Saudi delegation on strengthening cooperation on the combat readiness of local pro-government armed forces, reports Xinhua news agency.

    Al-Daeri thanked the Saudi-led coalition for “generous support” and for their commitment to “the legitimate government and the rights of the Yemeni people”.

    For its part, the Saudi delegation, headed by Major General Hamid Muhammad Al-Ghamdi, affirmed the “steadfast and supportive position of the coalition towards Yemen’s people until ending the Houthis, restoring the state and achieving lasting peace”t.

    Various regions in Yemen have witnessed sporadic armed confrontations between the local warring factions after a cease-fire brokered by the UN expired in October last year.

    Yemen has been mired in a civil war since late 2014 when the Houthi militia stormed several northern cities and forced the government out of the capital Sanaa.
