New Delhi, Apr 26 (PTI) India has evacuated a total of 670 Indian nationals from Sudan and is looking at rescuing more of its citizens from the strife-torn African nation before the end of a tenuous ceasefire between the regular army and a paramilitary force.

“#OperationKaveri continues. 4th batch of stranded Indians departs from Port Sudan for Jeddah. IAF C-130J takes off with 136 passengers on board,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted late Wednesday night.

India has set up a transit facility at Jeddah and Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan is overseeing the evacuation mission from the Saudi Arabian city.

The first batch of 278 Indians were evacuated from Port Sudan by the Indian Navy’s frontline ship INS Sumedha on Tuesday.

Sources said a C-17 military transport aircraft of the IAF has left for Jeddah on Wednesday to bring back the evacuees from Jeddah to Mumbai. The aircraft is expected to land in Mumbai on Thursday morning.

Sudan has been witnessing deadly fighting between the country’s army and a paramilitary group that has reportedly left around 400 people dead.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar on Monday announced the launch of ‘Operation Kaveri’ to bring back the stranded Indians from Sudan.

  • Rutgers, unions reach tentative deal to end strike

Rutgers, unions reach tentative deal to end strike

    [ad_1]

    rutgers teachers strike 64504

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, who stepped in early this week to force the university and unions to the negotiating table, and Rutgers University President Jonathan Holloway called the agreement a “fair and equitable” resolution that raises wages and benefits and improves working conditions for faculty.

The three striking unions said in an email that they secured “profound victories” for students and faculty members ranging from pay increases to teaching conditions.

“This framework sets a new standard. Our members have struck to transform higher education in the State of New Jersey and across this country,” Becky Givan, president of the union Rutgers AAUP-AFT, said in a statement through Murphy’s office.

“The framework we have agreed to today sets in place unprecedented gains for contingent workers, graduate students, and our communities. We look forward to working together with the university to realize President Holloway’s vision of a beloved community. We would not have gotten here without our members’ commitment and the support of our governor.”

According to Holloway’s office, the agreement would:

    • Increase salaries across the board for full-time faculty and counselors by at least 14 percent by July 1, 2025.
    • Provide a 43.8 percent increase in the per-credit salary rate for part-time lecturers over the four years of the contract while strengthening their job security.
    • Increase the minimum salary for postdoctoral fellows and associates by 27.9 percent over the same contract period.
    • Provide “substantial enhancements” in wages, plus a commitment to multi-year university support for teaching assistants and graduate assistants. The graduate students, in addition to receiving health care coverage and free tuition and fees, will see their 10-month salaries increase to $40,000 over the course of the contract.

It’s unclear how these increases will get paid. Lawmakers are in the process of scrutinizing Murphy’s $53.1 billion budget, which includes funding for Rutgers and higher education. Murphy’s office declined to say how aspects of the new deal would be financed, saying only that the administration “looks forward” to working with Rutgers during the budget process.
Three unions were on strike: Rutgers AAUP-AFT, which represents full-time faculty, graduate workers, postdoctoral associates and Educational Opportunity Fund counselors; the Rutgers PTLFC-AAUP-AFT, which represents part-time lecturers; and AAUP-BHSNJ, which represents workers at Rutgers’ health sciences schools.

Those unions and other had been working without a new contract for several months. Under the agreement, the contracts would be retroactive to July 1, 2022, according to Rutgers. It must be voted on to ratify the contract.

The unions said there are still some “open issues” to be resolved.

“However, the framework shows the vital progress we have made on the core issues we prioritized during this contract campaign,” an email to members and obtained by POLITICO said.

The unions — representing about 9,000 full- and part-time faculty, researchers and graduate students — suspended plans to strike next week. They credited the strike with putting pressure on the school to reach this point.

Givan also credited Murphy with stepping up his efforts and bringing the two sides to the Statehouse on Monday, “which was critical in getting far more movement from the administration in a matter of days than had taken place in months.”

Akhand Hindu Rashtra dream must reach Makkah: Yati Narsinghanand

    [ad_1]

The 58-year-old head of Dasna Devi temple in Uttar Pradesh, Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati, delivered a hate speech recently at a two-day event named Hindu Jagruti Samelan (Awakening the Kshatriya) organised by Nyay Manch Trust in Noida between April 1 and 2.

The video has gone viral in social media with many condemning the right-wing leader’s Islamophobic remarks and intentional targeting of Prophet Muhammad.

Yati claimed that there is a Shiv temple beneath the Kaaba, Islam’s holiest site.

    MS Education Academy

“Akhand Hindu Rashtra was the dream of Veer Savarkar and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This dream should not be restricted to Afghanistan but we should work hard till Hindutva reaches Makkah and Kaaba,” Yati alleges.

“The Zamzam water that flows in the Kaaba is actually the holy Ganges,” he claimed which was followed by a few claps.

“If we (Hindus) fail to overpower Makkah, then there is no force in this world that can weaken Islam,” Yati said.

Aapko (Hindus) Makkeshwar Mahadev ko jeetna hee padega (We have to win over Makeshwar Mahadev),” Yati said and added that Makkah is the root cause for ‘cancer’, pointing at Islam, metaphorically.

Indirectly referring to ‘love jihad‘, Yati said that Hindu women should be protected at all costs to save Sanatan Dharma.

“If you are not vigilant in saving Hindutva, then remember that every temple will be razed to dust, and every Hindu woman, including our daughters, will be raped and sold as sex slaves by them (referring to Muslims). This is their only motto in life,” Yati said.

The event that was streamed on Youtube appealed to its viewers to donate for Hindu Rashtra. “Nyay Manch wants to groom 500 social media influencers to raise their voice for ‘Ghar Waapsi’. After this, these people will reach this target of 50,000 people. This is how these waves will move forward,” the Nyay Manch bio stated.

    Nyay Manch

Freelance journalist Alishan Jafri shared the video and tagged foreign minister S Jaishankar asking him to take action on hate speeches rather than face embarrassment on a global level while representing India.

“He’s talking about the Holy Kaaba in a hateful way. @DrSJaishankar is wise enough to know that this may not be received well internationally. Instead of firefighting diplomatic flak and embarrassment like last time, it would be appreciated if action is taken when Indians flag it,” the journalist tweeted.

  • Gold rates in Hyderabad reach near all-time high

Gold rates in Hyderabad reach near all-time high

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Gold rates in Hyderabad and other cities in India on Friday climbed to a near all-time high. The rates of 24-carat and 22-carat gold reached Rs. 60, 0000, and Rs. 55, 0000 respectively.

In the current month, the rates of the yellow metal saw nearly a seven percent jump.

In the international market, gold rates reached nearly USD 2000 per ounce. There are speculations that it may breach the all-time high of USD 2072 per ounce.

Reasons for rise in gold rates in Hyderabad

Market experts attribute the rise in gold rates in Hyderabad and other Indian cities to the softening of the US dollar rate and the slipping of the dollar index below 102 levels.

Additionally, the collapse of two regional banks in the US and the crisis in a Swiss bank have also contributed to the increase in gold rates in the international market.

The Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates has also played a key role in the fluctuation of gold rates.

Rates depend on demand and supply

As gold is also a commodity, its rates depend on demand and supply. During times of uncertainty, the rates of the yellow metal increase drastically as investors consider it a safe haven.

However, during market boom periods, its rates return to normal as investors start exploring options that can give them higher returns when compared to gold.

Gold is not only seen as an investment option as many people purchase the yellow for weddings, festivals, and other occasions.

With the rise in gold rates in Hyderabad and other Indian cities, it is likely that the demand for yellow may decrease in the short term.
