Dubai ruler announces new moon mission called ‘Rashid Rover 2’

Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced on Wednesday the second attempt to land on the moon, the rover would be called Rashid 2.

This came after the Japan’s Hakuto-R Mission 1 spacecraft, carrying the Rashid Rover, got lost moments before it landed on the moon on Tuesday.

“The mission of the vehicle carrying the explorer Rashid did not succeed in landing on the surface of the moon… but we succeeded in raising the ceiling of our ambitions to reach the moon… and we succeeded in making a team of our young men and women capable of managing advanced space projects… and we succeeded in building a space sector from zero within 10 years,” Sheikh Mohammed tweeted on Wednesday.

Sheikh Mohammed continued, “Today, explorer Rashid 1 is on the surface of the moon, carrying the flag of the Emirates… to constitute the greatest evidence of our courage… and our thinking outside the box… and our attempt to reach the moon… From today, work will begin on Rashid 2… a new explorer… for a new attempt to reach for the moon.”

Sheikh Mohammed added, “We are a country founded on ambition. We are a country that has not stopped since December 2, 1971. It will not stop. It will not turn around. It will not set small goals for itself. The coming is more beautiful, greater and bolder, God willing.”

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, tweeted, “The biggest risk is not to take risks,” says the one whose name bears the space center, ‘Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid.’ The nature of the space sector is a high risk rate, and we accept that.”

Sheikh Hamdan also said, “We have had the honor of trying to reach a new point in the history of the UAE… and we have had the honor of raising our ambitions so that space, its planets and stars will be its ceiling.

“And we directed Mohammed bin Rashid to start immediately developing Rashid 2… a new vehicle… for a new attempt to reach the moon, God willing.”

Both rovers are named after the late Sheikh Rashid, founder of modern Dubai and father of Sheikh Mohammed.

The Rashid 1 mission was the first under the UAE’s local lunar exploration program, which took a team of 11 engineers at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center six years. No date has been set for the second attempt.

UAE: Rashid Rover’s moon landing date announced

    [ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: A Japanese spacecraft carrying the United Arab Emirates’ Rashid Rover – the Arab region’s first mission to the Moon – is scheduled to land on the moon on Tuesday, April 25 at 8:40 pm UAE time.

Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) on Wednesday took to Twitter and wrote, “The landing date and time of the HAKUTO-R lander, carrying aboard the Rashid Rover, on the surface of the Moon, is set for April 25 at 8.40pm (UAE time).”

“The date is subject to change depending on the mission’s operations. Alternative landing dates are April 26, May 1, and 3 May,” MBRSC added.

    MS Education Academy

Built by an Emirati team at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC), the Rashid rover has spent more than four months in space since its launch on December 11, 2022.

The rover was sent into space from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.

The spacecraft entered lunar orbit on March 21 and has since been gradually approaching the surface.

MBRSC further said that the Rashid Rover is currently orbiting the Moon at an altitude of about 100 km at perilune (periapsis – the points in the orbit that is closest to the center of the moon) and about 2,300 km at apolune (apoapsis – the points in the orbit farthest to the center).

At around 7:40 pm on April 25, the lander carrying the Rashid Rover will perform multiple orbit control maneuvers to reach a 100km circular orbit around the Moon before starting the landing sequence.

During the landing sequence, the lander will perform a braking burn, firing its main propulsion system to decelerate from orbit. Utilizing a series of pre-set commands, the lander will adjust its altitude and reduce velocity to make a soft landing on the confirmed site of Atlas Crater in the Mare Frigoris.

Before landing, the team will prepare by participating in 12 simulated rehearsals at ground stations.

On the surface of the moon, the rover will conduct scientific tests that are expected to contribute to qualitative developments in the fields of science, communication technologies, and robotics.

The mission’s primary goal is to study lunar plasma and provide answers about lunar dust, the lunar surface, the movement of the moon and how different surfaces interact with lunar particles.

The rover will also send back images and collect data on lunar soil and dust once it reaches the lunar surface.

Delhi HC asks Shehla Rashid to file response to affidavit filed by NBDSA

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi High court judge on Thursday asked former JNU student leader Shehla Rashid to file a response to the affidavit filed by the News Broadcaster and Digital Standard Authority (NBDSA). She has moved a plea against a news channel and its journalist.

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav directed Shehla Rashid to file a rejoinder to the affidavit filed by the NBDSA. The matter has been listed on July 19, 2023, for further hearing.

During the hearing, the counsel appearing for the respondent journalist submitted that he will adopt the reply filed by the respondent news channel in the matter.

Rashid has alleged that one news channel aired a one-sided defamatory broadcast in which baseless allegations were levelled against her by estranged father. She had sought an apology from News Channel to mitigate the damage caused to her reputation and dignity.

On September 16, 2022, the bench of justice Yashwant Varma had issued a notice on the plea of Rashid to the broadcaster regulatory authority, a news channel and a journalist. She moved a plea against a program that was telecast by a news channel in 2020.

Rashid has sought a modification in an order passed by NBDSA on March 31, 2022, on her complaint.

The News Broadcaster and Digital Standard Authority (NBDSA) had directed the news channel to take down links to the show about Rashid.

The grievance of the petitioner was that the NBDSA refused to direct the channel to air an apology. She contended that NBDSA had given relief in other similar cases.

Such unreasoned refusal is wholly arbitrary and unsustainable in law and this writ ought to issue to remedy the violation of public duty by the respondents, the plea said.

Advocate S Prasanna, the counsel for Rashid, had submitted that it is important that there is a sense of responsibility of the media and people who make these allegations.

The counsel for NBDSA had submitted that the broadcaster has removed all the links from all platforms of the programme.

  • ‘Release surgical strike video…’ Congress’ Rashid Alvi backs Digvijaya Singh

‘Release surgical strike video…’ Congress’ Rashid Alvi backs Digvijaya Singh

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing controversy over Congress leader Digvijaya Singh questioning the authenticity of the ‘2019 Surgical Strike’, Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Friday came in support of his party colleague and asked the Centre to release the surgical strike video that it claimed it has.

“Government says it has a video (of a surgical strike) so what is wrong with Digvijaya Singh asking the government to show it? We’re not asking for proof (of strike) but the government should show the video it claims it has,” said Rashid Alvi while speaking to ANI.

Alvi’s reaction comes days after Digvijaya Singh’s remark on the surgical strike.

Digvijaya Singh had said the government talks of surgical strikes. “They (government) claim to have killed so many people but no proof is given,” Singh had said.

Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that the country has confidence in the security forces but can’t trust the BJP government. “We have faith in our security forces but can’t trust the BJP government,” he added.

Rashid Alvi further raised questions about various ministers’ statements surrounding the surgical strike.

“Sushma Swaraj, who was a minister in the government, had said that the air strike was done at a place where there was no possibility of anyone getting killed. Amit Shah claims that more than 300 terrorists were killed in the air strike.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claims that more than 400 terrorists were killed in the air strike,” Alvi pointed out.

Citing the above statements, Congress leader Alvi said that it varies and therefore if the government claims to have video proof it should be shown.

“These contradictory statements raise questions as to what exactly happened in the surgical air strike. That’s why the government if it claims that it has the video evidence of the air strike should make it public,” Rashid Alvi demanded.

Congress leader Alvi further sought an apology from the Centre in case it does not have video proof.

“If they do not have any video evidence to prove its claims, then the government should apologize,” he added.

In strong disapproval of Digvijaya Singh’s remarks on surgical strikes, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the party leader had stated a “ridiculous thing” and that he disagrees with the views.

“I do not agree with what Digvijaya Singh said. We have full trust in our Army. If Army takes action, there is no need for proof. I disagree with his (Digvijay)’s statement and Congress’ official position is also that this is his opinion,” Rahul Gandhi said.

The party had officially also distanced itself from Digvijaya Singh’s remarks on Monday.
