Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has started issuing Umrah permits for the holy month of Ramzan 1444/2023 via an electronic platform aimed to facilitate services for rituals.

The Ministry of Haj and Umrah stated that those who want to perform Umrah in the month of Ramzan can get permission through the Nusuk platform.

Those who wish to perform Umrah during Ramzan this year should start booking their places as soon as possible. Time slots are limited so it is essential to remember that they may be taken quickly.

The time map showed that there is severe crowding during the first three Thursdays of Ramzan, which corresponds to the second, ninth and sixteenth day of the month.

While the remaining 20 days of Ramzan showed slight crowding. It is to be noted that the last ten days of Ramzan are still not available for booking in Nusuk.

Ramzan is usually the peak of the Umrah season.

Umrah is a pilgrimage to Islam’s two holiest sites in the cities of Makkah and Madinah and can be performed at any time of the year. It is distinct from the Haj, which takes place once annually.

Ramzan is expected to start this year on March 23, although the exact date is likely to be announced on the night of March 22 by the country’s moon-sighting committee.

    About Nusuk platform

  • Ayodhya Mosque construction to begin after Ramzan

Ayodhya Mosque construction to begin after Ramzan

    [ad_1]

Ayodhya: The construction of a mosque in Ayodhya is likely to start after the holy month of Ramzan.

The Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) has given clearance to the mosque complex layout in Dhannipur village in a recent board meeting.

Nitish Kumar, district magistrate and chairman of ADA, Ayodhya, said, “All pending clearances to Ayodhya’s mosque cum complex project have been cleared in the recent board meeting. The sanctioned layout of the mosque will be handed over to the Sunni Central Waqf Board (SCWB) in the next couple of days after completing a few formalities.”

The SCWB called the development a big move and said it will call a meeting, probably after Ramzan, in this context.

Athar Hussain, secretary Indo Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF) – the trust formed by SCWB to look after the construction in Dhannipur-said, “We will convene a meeting after Ramzan where we will finalise the plan to start construction. In the same meeting, we will also chalk out the final date to begin construction of the mosque complex.”

The holy month of Ramzan is likely to start on March 22 and conclude on April 21.

On November 9, 2019, the Supreme Court’s Constitution Bench permitted the construction of a temple in Ayodhya at the site where the 16th Century Babri Masjid once stood and was brought down by ‘Kar Sevaks’.

The apex court, in the same judgment, had also asked the government to allot a “prominent and suitable” five-acre plot in Ayodhya for the construction of a mosque in lieu of the Babri Masjid.

While the board’s clearance has paved the way for the construction of the mosque, the SCWB has maintained that it did not want to associate the upcoming mosque with the disputed 16th Century structure that was brought down on December 6, 1992.

Hence, they said, it would not be named after any Mughal emperor.

Athar Hussain said the mosque cum complex will be named after freedom fighter and revolutionary Maulvi Ahmadullah Shah Faizabadi. It will include a mosque, hospital, community kitchen, and museum among others.

“The maximum area would be allocated to the hospital. We plan to develop a multi-specialty hospital that would be equipped with state-of-art facilities. The entire hospital will be established in two phases. In the first phase, arrangement for 100 beds would be made while in the second phase, 100 more beds will be added. The hospital will offer the best treatment in cancer care, transplants, spine, heart, robotics, orthopaedics, emergency and others,” he added.

Professor S.M. Akhtar, a Lucknow-based architect-cum-town planner and founder dean, faculty of architecture, Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi, has been appointed by the trust to design the mosque.

Besides, the trust has also appointed renowned historian, international relations expert and chronicler of Indian cuisine Professor Pushpesh Pant as consultant curator of its archival museum that would be a part of the mosque complex.

The specialty hospital, community kitchen and a museum will be housed in a multi-storey vertical structure. These will be metres away from the mosque and a century-old Sufi shrine will be in between.

The mosque, meanwhile, will be spherical in shape with a capacity to accommodate 2,000 ‘namazis’ or worshippers at a time.

It will be four-times bigger than the Babri Masjid.

The hospital complex will be six-times the size of the mosque. The mosque will be built on 3,500 square metres of land while the hospital and other facilities will straddle an area of 24,150 square metres.

The building will be zero-energy to convey a message on climate change. All power demands in the mosque will be met with the help of solar panels and there will be no electricity connection.

A green patch will be developed and saplings will be procured from all over the world, including Amazon rainforest, places where the bushfire took place in Australia and other geographical locations in India.

There is no detailed plan yet to collect contributions for the project. Two separate bank accounts have been created to collect money for the construction – the first for the mosque and the second for other structures.

  • Israeli min orders demolition of Palestinian homes during Ramzan

Israeli min orders demolition of Palestinian homes during Ramzan

    [ad_1]

Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, ordered the continuation of the demolition of Palestinian homes in Jerusalem during the holy month of Ramzan, leading to condemnation from the Palestinian Foreign Ministry.

The Israeli authorities usually refrain from carrying out demolitions in East Jerusalem during Ramzan due to religious sensitivity.

On Monday, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said, “National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir asked the police to continue demolishing homes built without permits in East Jerusalem during the month of Ramzan.”

Commenting on this, the Israeli minister said on Israeli radio (Kan) on Monday morning, that Ramadan does not mean that we should settle down and surrender to those who break the law because of the advent of this month.

The police are also preparing to implement the instructions of the Israeli minister, despite the potential cost and the warnings issued by the heads of the Israeli security services about Ben Gvir’s movements east of Jerusalem

Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned “in the strongest terms” the Israeli minister’s statements, and considered them “an incitement to further escalation of the situation in the conflict arena.”

The ministry said in a statement, “These positions are liable to ignite more fires in the arena of conflict, especially as they fall within the context of what Jerusalem is being subjected to in terms of large-scale Judaization and Israeliization operations that lead as a result to operations and crimes of ethnic cleansing and forcible deportation.”

The ministry held “the Israeli government fully and directly responsible for the occupation’s crimes and continuous violations in Jerusalem.”

Since assuming the position of Minister of National Security in December 2022, Ben Gvir has directed the acceleration of the demolition of Palestinian-owned buildings in the city of East Jerusalem, built without a permit.

According to human rights organisations, Palestinians in Jerusalem also face great difficulties in obtaining building permits, which cost tens of thousands of dollars for each apartment.

Palestinian National Information Center says that the number of homes demolished since Israel’s occupation of Jerusalem in 1967 has reached more than 1,900.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced in a report that, from the beginning of 2023 until the end of February, the Israeli authorities demolished 67 homes in East Jerusalem, claiming “unauthorized construction.”

On the other hand, the authorities demolished 143 homes throughout 2022, and in 181 homes in 202, according to the same report.

Palestinian circles in Jerusalem estimate that there are about 20,000 homes threatened with demolition in East Jerusalem on the grounds of “unauthorized construction.”

  • Saudi Arabia bans imams from collecting donations during Ramzan

Saudi Arabia bans imams from collecting donations during Ramzan

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has warned imams and muezzin in mosques that collecting financial donations for fasting people or other iftar projects during Ramzan is prohibited.

This came in a statement issued by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, which it published on its Twitter account.

According to the statement, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Abdul Latif Al-Sheikh, issued a circular to all the Ministry’s branches about the need to prepare mosques to serve the worshipers, in preparation to receive the holy month of Ramzan 1444.

Here are the ten points for imams and muezzin to follow during Ramzan:

    • The imams and the muezzin must adhere to complete regularity in their work, and avoid being absent during Ramzan except for extreme necessity.
    • The imams and the muezzin must abide by the calendar of Umm al-Qura, raise the call to prayer for the isha prayer in its time in Ramzan, and establish the prayer according to the approved period for each prayer.
    • It is also necessary to take into account the circumstances of the people in Tarawih prayers, and to complete the Tahajjud prayer in the last ten days of Ramzan in sufficient time before the dawn call, so that this will not be hardship for the worshipers.
    • The imams and the muezzin were also asked to abide by the Prophet’s guidance in supplicating qunoot in Tarawih prayers, not to prolong and confine themselves to supplications and mosques, and to stay away from hymns and intonations.
    • Reading some useful books on the mosque group.
    • It is forbidden to use mounted cameras for the purpose of photographing the imam and worshippers while performing the prayer, and it is also forbidden to transmit or broadcast prayers in the media of all kinds.
    • The imam is responsible for authorizing the i’tikaf, checking that there are no violations from it, and knowing the data for the i’tikaaf. The imam must seek the approval of the approved sponsor for non-Saudis wishing to perform i’tikaaf.
    • Not collecting financial donations for breakfast projects for fasting people and others.
    • Iftar is served for the fasting person – if any – in the places prepared for that in the courtyards of the mosque, under the responsibility of the imam and the muezzin. The person in charge of breaking the fast for the fasting person should clean the area immediately after breaking the fast. It is important not to set up any temporary rooms, tents, etc. to keep breakfast in.
    • The ministry urged worshipers not to take children, as that would disturb the congregation and cause them to lose reverence.
