Resentment in SP over Maurya’s remark on Ramcharitmanas

Lucknow: The controversy sparked off by senior SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya on the allegedly objectionable verses from Ramcharitmanas, has now started boomeranging on the Samajwadi Party itself.

Upper caste legislators in SP have started raising objections to Maurya’s statement and have even threatened to quit the party if action is not taken against Swami Prasad Maurya.

Rakesh Pratap Singh, MLA from Amethi, said, “Whether I remain in politics or not, whether I remain a legislator or not and whether I get a ticket or not, I will not remain quiet when my religion is questioned.”

He said that anyone who makes objectionable comments on Sanatan Dharma, cannot be a Samajwadi.

“One who makes unpardonable remarks on Lord Ram also cannot be a Samajwadi. Only a mentally unstable person can make such remarks,” he said.

He said he would continue to oppose those who make such comments against Lord Ram and Lord Krishna.

SP spokesman Roli Mishra Tiwari has also voiced her opposition to Maurya’s statement. She has demanded action against Swami Prasad Maurya.

“I am a Brahmin and a follower of Sanatan Dharma and will not accept what Maurya has said. I was quiet because I thought he was speaking in his personal capacity but now it seems that this is the party’s official stand,” she said.

Mishra, who is being trolled for her statement, has sought protection from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fearing an attack on her.

She tweeted that a large group of chaotic elements are attacking her on social media for coming out in support of Ramcharitmanas.

“I am apprehensive of any physical attack on me. I have two small girls and my husband is posted at the border. I need protection,” she tweeted.

Both the leaders claim that they are upset because they have realized that the party leadership is now backing Maurya on the controversy.

“It is clear that the party leadership sees a casteist benefit in the issue and has no qualms about insulting religion,” they said.

Controversy over Ramcharitmanas is for votes, it pleases SP and BJP: CM Bhupesh Baghel

    [ad_1]

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday attacked Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya over his controversial remarks on ‘Ramcharitmanas’.

Baghel said, “Whatever controversy is going on regarding the Ramcharitmanas, it is all for votes. The controversy is pleasing the Samajwadi Party (SP) as well as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It is pleasing SP leader Maurya as well as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.”

He further said, “Even if one pronounces Mara, Mara repeatedly then also ‘Ram Ram’ will appear from its mouth. Some speak Mara and some say Ram, what difference does it make? You call him (Lord Ram) by any name, even if one talks against him, his name is there.”

“I would like to speak about the Ramayana that Vinoba Bhave had said a very good thing in this matter. There is a need to read Ramcharitmanas in depth, there is no need to argue on it. Good things should be accepted. There should not be a dispute about two or four couplets. Everything cannot be right for every person, every person has his own choice as some like bitter gourd, some don’t,” Baghel said.

Last month, SP leader Maurya sparked a controversy after he demanded the deletion of “insulting comments and sarcasm” targeted at particular castes and sects in Ramcharitmanas, a poem based on the epic Ramayana. Maurya further claimed that in the Ramcharitmanas, which was composed by Tulsidas, there are words hurting the sentiments of the Dalit community.

Besides, CM Baghel once again threw lights on the union budget 2023 which was presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday, February 1.

He said that there were a few important points in the budget which he would like to mention.

“Inflation is at peak, Fiscal deficit is at peak, current deficit is at peak, unemployment is at peak and debt burden at all time high three times in eight years. This is the conclusion. The budget is very disappointing for farmers, labourers, women, lower class, middle class and this is the truth of the so-called Amrit Kaal,” Baghel said.

Ramcharitmanas row: Chhattisgarh CM slams Yogi, Maurya

    [ad_1]

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday said the row over some parts of Tulsidas’ epic ‘Ramcharitmanas’ allegedly being against women and those from backward communities was being created by leaders in Uttar Pradesh as part of vote-bank politics.

The ‘Ramcharitmanas’ issue was set off in UP by Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya who claimed on January 22 that some portions insult a large section of society on the basis of caste and had sought that they be “banned”.

“It (controversy) suited both (UP CM) Yogi Adityanath and Maurya to garner votes. However, people face the wrath (of such tussles), while essential issues are ignored,” Baghel told reporters.

Asserting that “two or four couplets” do not make any difference to such a great epic, Baghel said one must adhere to social reformer Vinoba Bhave’s advice that the merits of any religious book or philosophy must be discussed in the present context.

He said Bhave advised that the basic elements (of the book or philosophy) must be discussed and its subtle facts must be accepted after consideration.

“This controversy is wrong. Ramcharitmanas was written 650 years ago by Tulsidas while Valmiki had written it much earlier. There is no need to accept it as it is written in the current situation. You should accept good things from Ramayana and the things you don’t like, leave it,” the senior Congress leader said.

Tulsidas had faced opposition at the time for writing Ramcharitmanas in Hindi but he must be credited for taking the epic to every household, Baghel asserted.

“By creating controversies around such small issues, you are just doing politics of votes,” Baghel said without naming anyone.

Tapasvi Chhavni Temple chief priest Mahant Paramhans Das told PTI, “I will give a reward of Rs 500 to the person who will behead Maurya who had recently shown disrespect to Ramcharitmanas.”

Swami Prasad Maurya, a prominent OBC leader in Uttar Pradesh, kicked up a controversy recently by alleging that certain verses of the Ramcharitmanas “insult” a large section of society on the basis of caste and demanded that these be “banned”.
