Can’t permit RSS rally in sensitive areas: TN govt tells SC

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Government on Friday told the Supreme Court that they are not totally against the RSS route march but can’t permit it in sensitive locations.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday also assured the Supreme Court that it is not going to hold any route march on March 5 in Tamil Nadu as the organisation has decided to postpone the rally.

Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing for RSS, told the Supreme Court the organisation is not going to do anything till March 11 or March 12.

Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Tamil Nadu Government, hence urged the top court to post to March 17. The state government also agreed to present the inputs before the bench in a sealed cover and also the proposed routes.

Tamil Nadu Government also said that they will have a dialogue with the RSS on proposed routes for march as they are not totally opposed of it.

A bench of justices V Ramasubramanian and Pankaj Mithal thereafter adjourned the matter for March 17 for hearing a plea by the Tamilnadu government appeal against the Madras High Court order permitting RSS for its route march in the state.

Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Tamil Nadu Government, said that they are not totally opposing the route march and public meetings by RSS across the state but it cannot be permitted in every street and mohalla.

Senior Advocate Rohatgi apprised the court that the government denied holding route marches in the sensitive areas, which have faced PFI incidents and have border areas with disturbances. The lawyer said that the government had had some intelligence reports.

Tamil Nadu Government lawyer submitted the court cannot shut its eye to the bomb blasts in Coimbatore, PFI incidents etc. On this the court remarked that one is a language of democracy and one is the language of power and which language you speak depends on where you are.

The lawyer for Tamilnadu Govt stressed that they are not fully opposed to the procession but to the manner in which it is proposed to be done.

RSS lawyer replied that the ground the state government mentioned is that PFI was banned by Central Govt and it is a threat to the organisation. They are not able to control terrorist organizations and that is why they want to ban the route march, the lawyer said.

Tamil Nadu Government has moved the top court against the Madras High Court order permitting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to take out its route march in Tamil Nadu on rescheduled dates.

On February 10, Madras High Court directed Tamil Nadu police to grant permission to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to take route marches in various districts across the State on public roads.

Telangana High Court permits RSS rally in Bhainsa on March 5

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday gave permission to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to organise a march in Bhainsa, Nirmal district on March 5.

The HC ordered the right-wing organisation to hold the rally with not more than 500 individuals and to organise it 300 meters away from places of worship.

The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh’s (RSS) ‘Padha Sanchalan’ (march) and ‘Sharirikh Pradarshan’ at Bhainsa for Sunday, February 19 were denied permission earlier by the High Court.

The RSS had appealed that ‘Sharirik Utsavam’ was a bi-yearly practice at the town level. Members dress up in uniforms, carry out processions on the streets and end it with physical performances and speeches.

The town, which borders the former Naxal breeding ground of Adilabad, made headlines at frequent time intervals for communal clashes, internet outages, and daytime curfews.

‘Don’t think Biharis as fools’, Tejashwi targets BJP at mega rally

    [ad_1]

Patna: The Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, on Saturday targeted the BJP during a mega rally of the Mahagathbandhan in Purnia.

“We are Biharis and don’t think of us as fools (Ham Log Bihari Hai, Hamko Burbak Mat Samjhiye),” Tejashwi said while taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the promises he had made before the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

It was a show of strength for the Mahagathbandhan on Saturday as each and every MLA, MP and minister were present at the rally.

“During a rally at this same venue in 2014, Narendra Modi had promised to give special status to Bihar. But it turned into a ‘jumla’. Don’t assume that we Biharis are fools. We understand everything. The Centre had said that the income of the farmers would double by 2022, but what happened to that promise? What happened to the promise of concrete houses for every countryman? Please tell us one promise made by the Centre which has been fulfilled,” Tejashwi said.

“What was there for Bihar in the Union Budget this year? Zero. It is Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who is developing Bihar in his own capacity,” the RJD leader said.

“BJP does not have any leader, all of them are dealers. They are only trying to divide the society on religious lines. I’m the son of Lalu Prasad, who never compromised with the communal forces in his entire life. I will not bend before these forces,” Tejashwi said.

  • Maha: No love jihadi shall remain alive, says Raja Singh at public rally

Maha: No love jihadi shall remain alive, says Raja Singh at public rally

    [ad_1]

Suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member and former Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh made a call for ‘Undivided Hindu Rashtra’ on the occasion of Shivaji Jayanthi in Maharashtra.

Addressing a huge public rally in Latur district on Sunday, Raja spoke about Love Jihad, Hindu Rashtra, and his recent arrest by the Telangana police.

He also mentioned Afzal Khan, a general who served the Adil Shahi dynasty of Bijapur Sultanate during the 1600s, was killed by Chhatrapati Shivaji.

With Afzal as a reference, Singh made a provocative statement that said, “Jitne Afzal ke naajayaz awlaade hai, un sabko nahi chodna. Shivaji Maharaj ne Afzal ka seena phaadkar bagwaa rang lehraya tha. Aaj har gali mein, har vidhaan sabha mein ek Afzal hai. Tho socho hamein kitne Chhatrapati Maharaj ka roop lena hoga (Today, Afzal Khan’s descendants are found in every lane, every Vidhan Sabha. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj murdered Afzal Khan and raised the Hindu flag. Just think, how many of us have to become a Shivaji to murder an Afzal).”

He then spoke about love jihad provoking the crowd to murder every Muslim man who is in a relationship with a Hindu woman.  “Hamare Maharashtra ke dharthi per koi bhi love jihadi zinda na bache. Aaj hamari bahu-beti ko behla-phuslakar Love Jihad ke naam per fasaya jaa raha hai. Bacha paida karne ki machine banaya jaa raha hai. Rape and unke tukde kiya jaa raha hai. (No love jihadi will survive on the soil of Maharashtra. They trap Hindu women and make them slaves by producing more and more children. They rape them and cut them into pieces),” Raja said.

Hamare secular bhaiyon aur beheno ko batana chahatha hoon ki hum kabhi bhai-behen nahi ho sakthe. (I just want to convey to my secular brothers and sisters that we can never be brothers),” Raja spoke among energizing cheering among the crowd.

Singh went on to raise slogans such as ‘humse jo takrayega mitti mein mil jayega’ as the crowd cheered on.

Raja Singh also mentioned his recent bail and the restrictions imposed on him by the Telangana High Court and police.

Mujhe police ka notice diya gaya ki aapko kuch bhi nahi bolna hai. Maine kahan bilkul, hum kuch nahi bolenge. Lekin ithihaas kabhi jhuk nahi saktha aur Raja Singh kabhi rukh nahi saktha. Hamare dharam ke liye humne hamari kursi ko bhi laath maar di hai. Mera ek hee sankalp hai, jab tak jeeyoon, Chhatrapati Maharaj ke marg darshan per jeeyon. (I was told by the police not to say a word. I said ok. But history cannot be erased and Raja Singh cannot be tied down. I gave up my MLA position for my religion. I just want to live under the guidance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj till my end.),” he said.

On August 23 last year, T Raja Singh was booked by the Telangana police under the PD Act (Preventive Detention Act) for making derogatory remarks against the Prophet Mohammed in a video posted by him.

His comments lead to scores of people protesting on the streets demanding his arrest. The Telangana unit of the BJP also disassociated itself from his statements.

He was granted bail in February by the Telangana High Court after spending 76 days in prison.

  • Bhiwani Killings: VHP, Bajrang Dal rally in support of accused Monu Manesar

Bhiwani Killings: VHP, Bajrang Dal rally in support of accused Monu Manesar

    [ad_1]

After cow vigilante Monu Manesar was named accused in the killing of two Muslim men from Rajasthan in Haryana, members of the right-wing organisations, VHP (Vishva Hindu Parishad) and Bajrang Dal took out a rally in his support on Saturday.

Nasir and Junaid were kidnapped, lynched and murdered allegedly by members of the Bajrang Dal, including Manesar, on suspicion of their involvement in cow slaughter, on Tuesday.

The bodies of the victims were found charred to death in a car following which a case was booked. So far, six have been detained for questioning in connection with the case.

“Jo ham se takrayega choor choor hojayega” (Those who clash with us, will be razed to dust), “Monu Bhai aagey badho hum tumharey saath hain” (Monu brother, move forward! We are with you!), “Gau rakshakoun ke samman mei, har Hindu maidan mei” (For the respect of cow vigilantes, every Hindu will step into the field) were raised in the rally.

Slogans were also raised against the Gehlot government in Rajasthan after a case was booked against the cow vigilantes in Gopalgarh on Wednesday. Aside from him, the FIR names Bajrang Dal leaders Lokesh, Rinku Saini and Srikant for kidnapping and beating Junaid and Nasir

Manesar has been an active Bajrang Dal member since 2016 and has on several occasions shared photos of himself with high-profile politicians and police officials.

He has also shared several videos of himself and other members of the Bajrang Dal brandishing guns and threatening alleged cow smugglers, several of who were seen wounded.

VHP spokespersons held press conferences in Gurgaon and stated that they would hold protests in Rajasthan’s Alwar.

They stated that the discovery of the bodies, the filing of two FIRs (abduction and murder) and the names of cow vigilantes being taken and their arrest without any evidence and investigation is absolutely wrong and a communal issue.

They have demanded that forensic evidence must be taken and a CBI probe must be initiated into the issue before the accused are arrested and alleged that they have been arrested based on “claims of a Muslim” and based on circumstantial evidence.

“We cannot expect anything from the Rajasthan government hence the CBI must be involved. They are trying to misuse this opportunity for political gains. This is against the law. We will hold Mahapanchayats to protest against this,” said a VHP leader.

Following the deaths, a family member of one of the deceased was quoted by Maktoob Media stating that Monu Manesar, along with other members had abducted Junaid and Nasir from the forests of Piruka and taken them to Barwas village in Bhiwani.

The family alleged that their SUV was stopped on Wednesday morning, on the suspicion of cow-smuggling, after hitting the vehicle and the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team of Ferozepur-Jhirka was present there. Both the men were first severely beaten, and handed over to the Bajrang Dal team in a half-dead condition and taken to the police station. But the police refused to take them into custody after seeing their condition.

Both were then burnt alive along with the Bolero and the bodies of the duo were found on Wednesday night near Loharu village of Bhiwani.

At the same time, a claim is also being made that Junaid and Nasir were thrashed and kidnapped along with the SUV by some Bajrang Dal members from Piruka village in Bharatpur on Wednesday morning, before being burnt alive in Haryana. Police have however termed this allegation false.

  • Black leaders rally in Tallahassee against Florida’s denial of race studies course

Black leaders rally in Tallahassee against Florida’s denial of race studies course

    [ad_1]

    ap23046718758144

Tuesday’s rally was the latest chapter in a continuing saga over whether Florida will ultimately allow students to enroll in the College Board’s upcoming class on African American history.

The Florida Department of Education first raised public concerns about the course in January by rejecting a pilot version on the grounds that it “significantly lacks educational value” and violates the state’s “anti-woke” law. State officials later elaborated that the course denial was prompted by lessons that delve too far into political agendas, broaching topics such as queer studies and abolishing prisons.

Those topics, however, are not mandatory in the official framework of the African American history course that was released Feb. 1, a turn of events that led Democrats to criticize the College Board for allegedly caving to conservatives. Officials with the College Board, however, maintain that Florida, nor any other state, influenced the course that has been under development for nearly a decade and will debut in the 2024-2025 school year.

In wake of the tense back-and-forth between the organization and Florida, DeSantis this week suggested that the state could turn away from the College Board and seek a different vendor for students to take college-level courses. He hinted that the Florida House could propose legislation to tackle just that, but nothing has been filed as of Wednesday.

The Florida Department of Education, for its part, said Wednesday the College Board has yet to submit the African American Studies course to the state for its review.

“Florida students are going to have that ability (to earn college credit) — that is not going to be diminished,” DeSantis said Tuesday at an event in Jacksonville. “In fact, we’re going to continue to expand it. But it’s not clear to me that this particular operator is the one that’s going to need to be used in the future.”

Democratic lawmakers contend that the DeSantis administration picked the fight with the College Board to help the governor’s case as a potential 2024 GOP nominee.

“That’s the rub with this guy: if you dare to speak out against him, he will come after you,” state Rep. Fentrice Driskell (D-Tampa), the House Minority Leader, said at the rally Wednesday. “That is his MO, he wants us to be intimidated and afraid.”

Alongside Democrats, Black clergy and Sharpton called for voter registration efforts as a way to stand up to the DeSantis administration for allegedly whitewashing history by opposing the African American Studies course. They also criticized DeSantis’ efforts to end diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI, programs at colleges across the state.

Sharpton called DeSantis a “baby Trump” and claimed his messaging will bring together voters in opposition, citing the 2020 election when President Biden defeated former President Donald Trump.

“After Disney one day, after Blacks the next day,” Sharpton said Wednesday. “Just like a baby — give him a pacifier and let some grown folk run the state of Florida.”

  • The time George Santos tried to raise crazy money to host a simple rally for Trump

The time George Santos tried to raise crazy money to host a simple rally for Trump

    [ad_1]

    202301 santos magazine francis 23

Santos was defensive about the unusually high price tag for a local event.

“Understand that I’m not here for personal gains or for any kind of financial gains,” he said in a spring 2019 video message to the group posted on its Facebook page. “All monies raised are solely for structuring this movement slash organization.”

Santos was only able to pull in $645 out of a $20,000 goal. It’s unclear what happened to the funds.

While Santos was ultimately unsuccessful in raising $20,000 for the Trump group, his extravagant asks drew questions about whether he was out for personal, financial gain. The episode has echoes of other fundraising efforts that have made Santos the target of state and federal prosecutors. The Federal Election Commission is probing questionable campaign expenses including nearly $11,000 spent on rent for his Long Island home and the FBI is investigating claims that he absconded with $3,000 in donations meant for a disabled U.S. Navy veteran’s dying service dog.

Santos was a fringe player in 2019. He’s now a national political figure — but not for anything he’s accomplished. Instead, the Republican congressman who was elected in November in a swing district on Long Island, is best known for largely inventing his campaign biography. He has resisted calls for his resignation, saying his resume was only embellished, although he did step away from committee assignments citing the “ongoing attention surrounding both my personal and campaign financial investigations.”

Naysa Woomer, Santos’ communications director, said she could not comment on any campaign or personal matters, and calls to Santos’ personal attorney were not returned.

In spring 2019, a year before his first, unsuccessful run for Congress, Santos became a founding member of United for Trump, a grassroots group supporting President Donald Trump’s reelection. At a March 23 rally at Trump Tower in Manhattan, Santos was filmed holding a “Gays for Trump” sign.

By March 25, Santos set up a GoFundMe account that other United for Trump members pushed to the group to raise money for a future “Northeast tour” of Trump rallies.

He posted a video in the United for Trump Facebook group to introduce himself to other members that month.

Santos had a few specific asks: He said he wanted to establish an LLC with an accountant, at a cost of $500 to $750. United for Trump also needed a lawyer — “to keep in our back pocket and just to retain” — for $2,500.

In the March video, Santos alluded to “a lot of confusion as to what we are raising money for,” acknowledging it can cost less than $100 to get permits for rallies. But, he explained, United for Trump would be different than what members were used to, calling it “an organization to actually give power.”

In May 2019, Santos was listed in a Facebook post as the group’s “president” using part of his full legal name, George Anthony Devolder. Other United for Trump committee members included Joseph, who organized central New York rallies for a group called ACT for America, described as a “national anti-Muslim hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Joseph said she met Santos when he introduced himself to her at the March Trump Tower rally and that he “seemed like a sweet kid.”

“In grassroots, we accept everyone who wants to join and do a little work,” she said, adding that after the New York City rally, most of United for Trump’s other events envisioned for that year “didn’t get off the ground.”

Joseph said she was preoccupied with other things and began fading away from the group around the time Santos became its president, and said she didn’t remember the group getting very far with organizing events while she was involved.

In July 2019, Santos did help organize a counterprotest to an Impeach Trump rally in Buffalo — an event that turned violent.

Rus Thompson, a longtime conservative activist from Buffalo, was the lead organizer of the counter-rally. He had no recollection of Santos attending the event. The New York congressman should “never have been elected,” Thompson said in a recent telephone interview.

United for Trump planned to hold another Erie County rally at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center on August 3, 2019, according to administrator posts in the group’s Facebook page.

Santos had asked United for Trump members to help raise six-figures for the August event.

“Need your help. The est. cost to bring the pro-Trump rally to Buffalo with credible speakers is $20,000,” according to a call for donations that went out in the Facebook group.

Thompson questioned the $20,000 price tag for Buffalo speakers.

“I never paid speakers,” he said.

Planning for the August Buffalo rally was the last time Santos seemed to be involved with United for Trump. In October 2019, he announced his 2020 candidacy for Congress at a Queens Village Republican Club dinner. His biography for the event doesn’t mention United for Trump.

Thompson said he didn’t remember an event happening in Buffalo around that time. The location Santos proposed, he said, didn’t make sense.

“That’s really expensive and not set up for a rally,” Thompson said. “Car or boat show, yes, but political rally? No.”

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is planning to mobilise 10,000 people from each Assembly segment in Greater Hyderabad for its upcoming public meeting on February 17.

Chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will address the meeting planned at Parade Ground after inaugurating the new Secretariat complex.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao held a preparatory meeting with public representatives from Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts here on Thursday to prepare the party leaders and cadre for the big event.

While reminding that the new Secretariat complex was named after the architect of the Constitution of India Dr BR Ambedkar, KTR suggested the BRS leaders organise special programmes in every constituency on the day of the inauguration, which also remarked the birthday of CM KCR.

“At least 10,000 people from every Assembly segment in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits should be mobilised for the public meeting to be held at Parade Grounds,” said KTR.

He further instructed the party leaders to conduct an extensive cadre meeting on February 13 in all Assembly segments in GHMC limits on mobilising the public for the meeting.

MLAs and MLCs from other districts will be appointed in-charges for each constituency and they will stay put in the segments from February 13 to 17.

  • Sununu swipes at DeSantis, Dems rally to Biden: 5 takeaways from The Fifty: America’s Governors

Sununu swipes at DeSantis, Dems rally to Biden: 5 takeaways from The Fifty: America’s Governors

    [ad_1]

    republican governors 14684

Here are five takeaways from the day:

Democrats throw down gauntlet on abortion

Worried about the prospect of a national abortion ban, and being surrounded by states that have restricted access to the procedure, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, all Democrats, forcefully pledged themselves to its defense.

“We’re an oasis,” Pritzker said. “People come to Illinois to exercise what are their fundamental rights that are being denied in other states, every state around us, and another ring of states around them.”

Prtizker argued for a federal law protecting abortion access, adding, “If it were me, I would write it into the U.S. Constitution.”

Cooper’s tenure as governor has almost entirely been about facing down a Republican majority in the legislature. And after the 2022 midterms, the GOP is just one seat away from a two-chamber supermajority.

In an environment where flipping just one Democrat in the state House could trump his veto pen, Republican lawmakers have floated restricting abortions after six weeks of pregnancy — around the time a fetus begins to show cardiac activity — or after the first trimester.

But Cooper said he’s not backing down.

“We have become a critical access point in the Southeast and we need to hold the line to protect women’s health,” he said.

Inslee railed against state governments pursuing “vigilante justice” by trying to track down women seeking abortions in Washington, calling them “a clear and present danger.” He insisted that abortion rights will remain a top election issue for Democrats until reproductive rights are secured through legislation.

“The vast, vast majority of Americans do not want politicians ordering women into forced pregnancies, and that’s what this is,” he said.

Inslee argued that abortion right supporters need to now focus on “increasing privacy protections” through stronger state laws, to prevent patients from being targeted via their medical or retail data, or other online activities

Biden clears the field — Democrats back President for a second term

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, a Republican, said Democratic efforts to bump New Hampshire out of its first-in-the-nation slot in the party’s primary calendar will only invite challengers to Biden.

“You think no Democrat is going to step up and come to New Hampshire and get all that free press, all that earned media, all that excitement? Of course they are,” Sununu said.

Despite Sununu’s best efforts to suggest division among Democrats over the presidential race, Democratic governors lined up to applaud Biden after his State of the Union address.

Pritzker, who is widely viewed as a presidential contender, swatted away a question about his own ambitions, saying he’s “pleased” to support Biden’s yet-to-be-announced reelection bid.

“President Biden has done a superior job,” Pritzker said. “So much progress has been made in a partisan environment.”

Cooper lauded Biden as energetic and engaged: “He met the moment.”

Inslee, of Washington, who competed against Biden for the Democratic nomination in 2020 said he was “ecstatic” about the president’s address, which “showed that he is quick on his feet,” and “euphoric” about the infrastructure and clean energy investment authorized by Congress during the past year.

Republicans don’t know who their leader is

Former President Donald Trump’s loosening grip on the Republican Party after its lackluster showing in the midterms was also teased at.

While some Republicans are ready to move on from Trump, they weren’t willing to say who they think the party’s next leader should be.

“President Trump’s very popular in North Dakota,” said the state’s Gov. Doug Burgum, before quickly adding “there are people that are wanting to look to the future as opposed to looking to the past.” The question of party leadership, he said, is “an open debate.”

Sununu sees a group of leaders — the party’s would-be presidential contenders, himself included — but said “you never pin leadership of a party on one individual, you really can’t.”

The governors were clearer on what they don’t want to see from their party going forward: The heckling some Republican lawmakers did during Biden’s State of the Union speech.

“The Republicans, frankly, were rude. There’s no doubt about it,” Sununu said, describing Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ response to Biden’s address as “very politically driven” and “unhelpful” in its suggestion that “all Democrats are crazy.”

Alexa Henning, Huckabee Sanders’ communications director, rejected Sununu’s criticisms. “That isn’t what she said,” Henning said, “so it’s actually Chris that assumes half the country is crazy.”

    Sununu 2024, definitely maybe, sorta

Don’t call him a moderate. Sununu made it clear Thursday, as he mulls a 2024 presidential bid, that he’s as conservative — if not more conservative — than any Republican discussing a presidential bid.

“I’m ranked the most fiscally conservative governor in the country. I’m No. 1 in personal freedoms. Sorry, Ron, you’re No. 2,” Sununu said in a knock on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who’s considered a presidential frontrunner.

The libertarian-leaning Cato Institute ranked Sununu second-most fiscally conservative, behind Iowa’s GOP Gov. Kim Reynolds. DeSantis was ranked 20th, behind some Democrats, including Cooper.

“Am I more moderate on social issues? Yeah, maybe,” Sununu, who typically describes himself as “pro-choice,” said. “But I’ve gotta stand for management. I’m a manager. I’m a CEO.”

Sununu has a seemingly built-in advantage if he runs for president: New Hampshire remains the first primary for Republicans. But it can also be an albatross.

“If I didn’t win New Hampshire, I’d be done,” Sununu said, adding that the pressure would be immense even if he’s successful. “If I win New Hampshire, everyone’s going to say it wasn’t by enough.”

Democrats agree: The best climate message is jobs and economic opportunity

Democratic governors admitted the party has often tripped over itself in trying to convince independent and conservative voters on the need to tackle climate change and other policy action.

Cooper, of North Carolina, said he has no choice but to use pragmatic climate messaging: “You gotta do whatever it takes to get the job done,” he said, lamenting “my predecessor Republican governor didn’t allow people in his administration to even say the word [climate change],” he said.

It helps to have partners in that messaging: “We all agree that economic development and great paying jobs are good for North Carolina,” Cooper said, but now auto company CEOs are “falling all over themselves” to make electric vehicle investments.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, said he’s proud of working to convert the threat of climate change into economic opportunities, even as neighboring North Dakota looks to overturn Minnesota’s new clean energy targets through a lawsuit.

“Fighting against the ability to create more clean jobs and reduce carbon emissions, and suing your neighbor. I don’t think it looks very good,” Walz said.

Inslee, of Washington, said “clean energy jobs are moving so rapidly I can’t turn over a rock without finding some new company that’s hiring people,” offsetting tech layoffs in the state, which is home to big tech companies including Microsoft and Amazon.
