Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Kolar postponed to April 9

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A public rally of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Kolar has now been postponed and is scheduled to be held on April 9.

Congress General Secretary (Organisation), K.C. Venugopal said, “@RahulGandhi will be in Kolar on April 9 and address the ‘Jai Bharat’ mega rally there. On April 11, he will visit Wayanad. He is the voice of the people, you can never silence him. This voice will only get louder and stronger.”

Gandhi, a former MP, was earlier scheduled to begin his campaign from Kolar for the Karnataka Assembly polls from April 5.

In 2019, Rahul during his Lok Sabha campaign had made a speech for which he was convicted in the Surat court in 2023.

Congress leaders say that beginning from Kolar is itself a manifestation that the party is ready to fight out the 2019 ‘Modi surname’ case politically and legally.

In Kolar, the Congress will attack the Karnataka government on the issue of corruption.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, Karnataka General Secretary In-charge, said the Congress will form the government in the state with the blessings of the people.

“As Karnataka goes to polls on May 10, Congress resolves to usher in a
new era of Peace-Progress-Prosperity and rebuild Brand Karnataka, restore Kannadiga pride, Congress guarantees to run a welfare-driven government at the Centre,” he added

The Election Commission on Wednesday announced the schedule for the Karnataka Assembly elections. The polling will be held on May 10 and the results will be declared on May 13.

The term of the 224-member Assembly ends on May 24.

‘Jail Ka Taala Tuth Gaya’: What Raja Singh sang at this year’s Ram Navami rally

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The annual Sri Ram Navami Shobha Yatra here has become a show of strength for Hindutva groups to flex. The procession has also become a launchpad for Hindutva mascot and suspended BJP MLA Raja Singh to release new inflammatory ‘songs’ every year. In 2022, he sang a song degenerating Muslims and threatened to “kick” them out of India if they “don’t chant Ram’s name”. This year was no different.

Here’s a cursory glance at what Raja Singh said at the Ram Navami Shobha Yatra on Thursday. The MLA released a few more songs at his mega saffron rally, which were officially uploaded on some Youtube Channels and played during the Shobha Yatra procession.

Raja Singh as a practice has been singing songs and releasing them during the Sri Rama Navami festival each year. One of latest songs, ‘Baap Tu Baap Rahega’, was clearly a dig at the ruling government (or even the cops) for arresting him last year and putting him in the jail under the PD Act after he released a video passing derogatory comments against Prophet Muhammad. He did that in retaliation against the state got allowing comic Munawar Faurqui to hold a show.

The lyrics also make mention his PD Act detention following registration of a series of cases for making derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed in a video and also old cases booked against him for delivering hate speeches. The lyrics goes ‘Jail Ka Taala Tuth Gaya, Baap Tumhara Choot Gaya’. The song is of 5:10 minutes duration.

People who joined Singh’s Hindutva rally waved photos of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin, now a beloved Hindutva figure.

    nathuram godse
Portrait of Nathuram Godse displayed during Raja Singh’s Shoba Yatra. (Screenshot from Twitter video).

His song further also goes on the usual demand of turning India into a Hindu nation. ‘Hindu Rashtra Banega Hindustan. Jitehjeh Hamko Karna Heh Kaam. Desh Yeh Sarah Bhagwa Rangse Sajehgah’. Raja Singh as usual was the centre of attraction at the Sri Rama Navami Shobha Yatra on Thursday as well.

Raja Singh also threatened to “see the end” of anyone who dares to touch his son or family. “If anything happens to me, my son will take the Hindutva cause forward,” the suspended MLA said, while introducing his son to the Ram Navami Shobha Yatra on Thursday.

Demands for formation of ‘Hindu Rashtra’

The MLA known for his hateful rhetoric against minorities, was once again trying to promulgate his ideologue among the masses gathered to participate in the religious procession. He is currently out on bail from the Telangana high court, allowed him to walk out out on the condition that he would not participate in public rallies and meetings.

On Thursday, hundreds of men, women and children participated in the procession and T Raja Singh asked them all to “work hard to form a Hindu Rashtra”. “Those who oppose formation of a Hindu Rashtra should go away to any other Islamic country of their choice including Pakistan or Bangladesh. After the Hindu Rashtra is formed the capital of the country would be Ayodhya, Kashi or Mathura. If a Hindu nation is formed cow slaughter and love jihad will automatically stopped,” said the controversial MLA.

Raja Singh also claimed that said soon West Bengal, Kerala and some other States will become Muslim nations. “The Hindus need to be vigilant and careful,” he warned. He also administered a pledge to scores of youngsters at Begum Bazar Chatri to “work for formation of a Hindu Rashtra”.

Before the pledge he said there are 100 crore Hindus in India. “There are 50 Islamic countries in the world and more than 150 countries where majority citizens are Christians. I want to ask you all, why there can’t be a Hindu Rashtra. Why can’t Bharat be Hindu Rashtra? Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Bangladesh were formed after getting separated from India,” Raja Singh said.

Hyderabad: As the suspended Goshamahal BJP MLA Raja Singh, joined the main rally when it passed via Mangalhat, a portrait of Godse appeared. People who joined Singh’s fringe rally waved photos of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin, now a beloved Hindutva figure.

The Sri Rama Navami Shobha Yatra in the city here began at Sitarambagh Temple near Asif Nagar on Thursday. The event initially began with a few hundred members and slowly grew bigger as it passed via the Mangalhat police station area.

As another procession by the Sri Ram Yuva Sena, headed by suspended Goshamahal BJP MLA Raja Singh, joined the main rally when it passed via Mangalhat, a portrait of Godse appeared. People who joined Singh’s fringe rally waved photos of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin, now a beloved Hindutva figure.

Artists, cultural troupes and musical bands brought in by the Sri Ram Navami Utsav Committee also participated in the procession right from the beginning. DJs played Hindutva songs at the event, which last year witnessed hate speeches being made. Raja Singh, who has been banned from participating in political public meetings by the Telangana High Court, made a small speech at the event.

“Our elders worked hard and made the Ram temple a reality. It will soon be inaugurated. Our focus now has to be on Kashi and Mathura temples, for which we need to fight. Hindus should not be afraid of anyone. One Hindu can fight 10,000 people. There is nothing to fear, and we have to form a Hindu Rashtra,” Raja Singh.

At around 3 pm the procession was at the Mangalhat police station road. From there it will pass via Begum Bazar and other areas. According to sources, Hindutva leaders and participants will make a pledge to make Hindu Rashtra.

House Democrat leads rally backing Manhattan DA’s Trump probe

    [ad_1]

NEW YORK — A House Democrat stepped into the fray around Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s investigation of Donald Trump, holding a rally in support of the progressive prosecutor Monday after his Republican counterparts demanded information about the probe.

“We are here to say let the process continue and no one is above the law, not even a president of the United States,” said Rep. Adriano Espaillat, who represents Upper Manhattan, at a Harlem rally attended by a dozen other local Democratic leaders.

On Saturday Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), James Comer (R-Ky.) and Bryan Steil (R-Wis.) — the chairs of the Judiciary, Oversight and Administration Committees, respectively — sent a letter to Bragg setting a March 31 deadline for documents from his office about possible federal funding or involvement in his work. They also want Bragg to testify in private. The asks are voluntary since the Republican leaders have not issued a subpoena.

  • Trump’s first ’24 rally has a familiar feel: Anger and attacks on his tormentors

Trump’s first ’24 rally has a familiar feel: Anger and attacks on his tormentors

    [ad_1]

Trump went on to do a dramatic re-enactment of DeSantis pleading for his endorsement in the 2018 Florida governor’s race. The former president said that after he grudgingly backed DeSantis, the candidate “became like a rocket ship” and prevailed in the primary and general election — and argued that had he not backed him, DeSantis would have never won.

The audience seemed game to stand for hours under the central Texas sun and listen to Trump’s litany of complaints. They and the event itself offered a vivid illustration of the fault lines that have quickly opened up in the very early GOP primary: in which fealty to Trump appears to be one of the main litmus tests for those running.

Indeed, rallygoers here in Waco expressed disappointment that DeSantis had not gone further in his defense of Trump as he stares down a possible indictment from the Manhattan district attorney.

Louise Negry from Lometa, Tex., said DeSantis “might be a traitor.”

Her friend, Renee Alaniz, agreed, referencing the Florida governor’s implicit mocking of Trump for being involved in an alleged hush money payment to a porn star (which has been the central issue in his potential indictment).

“His statement about the possible Trump arrest was a little questionable — quite a bit questionable. His choice to be so lax about it and not support Trump in any way,” Alaniz said.

Chris Blunt, who wore a t-shirt with an image of the Trump NFT he purchased last year, called DeSantis a “Trump clone,” and said the governor should be “dropping the Covid stuff and moving past it.”

“Trump likes to attack the person and not their character, but DeSantis is attacking Trump’s character and credibility,” Blunt said. “He needs to stop playing games because Trump is going to trounce you.”

DeSantis was not the lone object of scorn in Waco on Saturday night. Trump also railed against Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney, who is investigating the $130,000 hush money payments to adult entertainer Stormy Daniels on Trump’s behalf. The jury in Manhattan had appeared to be wrapping up with the case and a decision on charges against Trump was widely expected to come last week. Now it does not appear any decision will come until at least early next week.

Trump framed the investigations into him and the “weaponization of our justice system” as “the central issue of our time.” And he claimed the “biggest threat” to the U.S. isn’t China or Russia but “high level politicians that work in the U.S. government like McConnell, Pelosi, Schumer and Biden.”

“You will be vindicated and proud the thugs and criminals who are corrupting our justice system will be defeated, discredited and totally disgraced,” Trump said.

Trump’s first 2024 presidential campaign rally came at a pivotal time. While Bragg closes in on a likely indictment — which would be a first for a sitting or former president — Trump is also facing legal scrutiny over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election as well as his handling of classified White House documents.

Trump, on Saturday, appeared to bet that he could turn the investigations into a political asset, casting himself once more as a victim of a federal government that was aligned against him.

“Our opponents have done everything they can to crush our spirit and to break our will. But they failed. They’ve only made us stronger,” he said.

The campaign and city of Waco had expected at least 15,000 people to attend Saturday’s rally. Wearing MAGA hats and Trump t-shirts, some waved official campaign signs saying “WITCH HUNT” and the entire crowd stood, hand to heart along with Trump, as a rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” sung by the “J6 Choir” played, set to a video of protesters storming the U.S. Capitol.

Trump ticked through a list of campaign promises that included mandating term limits, keeping “men out of women’s sports” and ending “the invasion at the Southern border.” And he once again vowed, without articulating how, that he would end the war in Ukraine and prevent “World War 3.”

But the focus wasn’t primarily on the issues facing America, it was on the many issues facing him.

The Trump campaign rolled out its Texas leadership team and endorsements for 2024 that included Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and twelve members of Congress, including Reps. Pete Sessions, the former NRCC chairman, and Roger Williams, chairman of the small business committee. Rep. Ronny Jackson — Trump’s former White House physician turned U.S. congressman from Texas — helped Trump’s campaign nail down endorsements and Trump personally called each, according to a campaign adviser.

Notably, Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. Ted Cruz weren’t included on the list, although the adviser said they expect more endorsements and Abbott and Cruz have both mulled 2024 runs of their own.

Capitol Hill Trump allies like Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) warmed up the crowds with their own rally cries.

Greene told the crowd to stop letting people from “blue states” move into Texas, and — in what has been a major pivot for the GOP — told people to embrace ballot harvesting.

“We need to beat them at their own game and start harvesting ballots,” Greene said. “Except they’ll only come from legal registered voters who are U.S. citizens.”

Trump seemed pleased with Greene’s speech in particular, and on stage encouraged her to run for Senate.

Outside the venue, rallygoers wandered through a makeshift marketplace of Trump themed souvenirs that ranged from Trump and Melania Trump lifesize cutouts, MAGA bikinis and t-shirts with crude messages against President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. One vendor said he was close to selling out a t-shirt that read, “I was there, where were you? God, Guns, Trump, in Waco, Texas.”

Meridith McGraw reported from Waco, Texas; Alex Isenstadt reported from Washington, D.C.

  • Trump all set to hold presidential campaign rally in Texas

Trump all set to hold presidential campaign rally in Texas

    [ad_1]

Texas: Former US President Donald Trump is all set to hold his Presidential campaign rally on Saturday in Waco, Texas, amid the multiple criminal probes going on which threaten his bid for the White House, CNN reported.

The rally at the Waco Regional Airport is very significant for Trump as he sees his chance to return to the White House as the Republican field for the 2024 presidential race begins to take shape.

Currently, Trump is facing investigations over a hush money payment, Georgia over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and by Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith over classified documents the FBI found at Mar-A-Lago, his attempts to steal the 2020 election and his role on January 6, 2021, insurrection.

In recent days, the former president has made increasingly bellicose remarks about those probes, including predicting last week his own indictment and arrest in Manhattan – something that has not come to pass — and urging supporters to protest, according to CNN.

Earlier, on Friday, raging against Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg on his Truth Social social media platform Friday, Trump said criminal charges could lead to “potential death and destruction” and “could be catastrophic for our Country.”

“PROSECUTORIAL MISCONDUCT!,” Trump said in another post.

On Thursday, he said Bragg “would rather indict an innocent man and create years of hatred, chaos, and turmoil, than give him his well deserved ‘freedom.’ The whole Country sees what is going on, and they’re not going to take it anymore. They’ve had enough!” as per a report in CNN.

Last week, Trump claimed “he will be arrested on Tuesday” next week as part of a yearlong investigation into a hush-money scheme. He also asked his supporters to protest the move, reported CNN.

“THE FAR & AWAY LEADING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE & FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WILL BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!,” he thundered in an all-caps message to his followers on Truth Social, his social media platform on Saturday (local time).

According to CNN, meetings have been going on throughout the week between the city, state and federal law enforcement agencies in New York City about how to prepare for a possible indictment of Trump in connection with a yearlong investigation into a hush-money scheme involving adult film actor Stormy Daniels.

Any indictment of the former President, who is running for re-election in 2024, would mark a historic first and quickly change the political conversation around an already divisive figure. While Trump has an extensive history of civil litigation both before and after taking office, a criminal charge would represent a dramatic escalation of his legal woes as he works to recapture the White House.

Indian Americans rally in support of India at San Francisco Consulate

    [ad_1]

Washington: A large number of Indian-American community members held a peace rally in support of India in front of its consulate in San Francisco that was vandalised by separatist Sikhs early this week.

A group of pro-Khalistan protesters on Sunday attacked and damaged the Indian Consulate in San Francisco. Raising pro-Khalistan slogans, the protesters broke open the makeshift security barriers raised by the city police and installed two so-called Khalistani flags inside the Consulate premises. Two consulate personnel soon removed these flags.

Scores of Indian Americans drove from in and around San Francisco and waived the tri-colour flag to show solidarity with India on Friday.

They condemned the destructive activities of separatist Sikhs, who were also present there in small numbers.

Local police were present there in sizable numbers to prevent any untoward incident. Some of the separatist Sikhs chanted pro-Khalistan slogans, but they were outnumbered by a large gathering of Indian Americans who chanted “Vande Mataram” and waved the Indian national flag along with that of the US.

Indian Americans were chanting slogans in favor of India.

In recent months there has been a rise in anti-India activities in Canada, Australia and the UK by Khalistan supporters who have vandalised some Hindu temples in these countries.

India on Monday lodged a strong protest with the US Charge d’Affaires in Delhi over the incident of vandalism at the Indian consulate general in San Francisco by some pro-Khalistan elements during a protest.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi said the US government was asked to take appropriate measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

About 4.2 million Indian American/Indian origin people reside in the US. Persons of Indian origin (3.18 million) constitute the third largest Asian ethnic group in the US.

Pro-Amritpal Singh rally taken out in Raipur; police serve notice to organisers

    [ad_1]

Raipur: A rally was taken out on Wednesday in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur by a group of people in support of absconding pro-Khalistan activist Amritpal Singh, leading the police to serve a notice to the organisers of the event which had no prior permission from authorities.

The rally, a foot march which started from Telibandha and comprised a small group of people visibly belonging to the Sikh community, culminated in front of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office located in nearby Panchsheel Nagar, police said.
The demonstrators also burnt an effigy of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, a senior leader of the AAP, which rules the northern state.

After the police learnt about the rally, which was taken out without prior permission from authorities, a notice was issued to the persons who had organised the event, Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal told PTI.
He did not provide further details.

Talking to the media, a protester, who identified himself as Diler Singh, said Amritpal Singh was innocent and accused the Punjab government and security agencies of falsely implicating him.

Amritpal Singh was fighting against addiction and keeping youth away from it and also uniting them with religion, he said.
Asked about the rally, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel told reporters in Assembly premises that the local administration has been keeping an eye on the issue.

Talking to mediapersons, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Brijmohan Agrawal termed the incident as very unfortunate and said the rally was taken out at a time when the Assembly is in session in the state capital.

The Khalistani separatist, who heads the Waris Punjab De, is on the run since the Punjab police launched a massive manhunt for the outfit’s members. Amritpal Singh was on the radar of the Punjab police after he and his armed followers stormed a police station in Ajnala last month to release one of his aides.
