Ankara: With less than a week left for presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkiye, the country’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a mass rally in Istanbul on Sunday with at least 1.7 million people attending, Turkish News Agency Anadolu reported.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan hailed the massive crowd of people at the Istanbul rally and recalled his government’s achievements over the last 21 years.

The Turkish leader said his government had tripled the national income over the past 21 years, News Agency Anadolu reported.

“In 21 years, we have provided jobs and food to 21 million people added to our population. We built 10.5 million new houses in 21 years and provided families home,” he added.

He criticized the Turkish opposition over their inimical rhetoric on homegrown drones and combat drones and pledged to further enhance the country’s defence industry, News Agency Anadolu reported.

On energy, Erdogan recalled the billions of dollars worth of natural gas and oil reserves discovered in the Black Sea and Turkiye’s southern Gabar area that have been put at the disposal of the Turkish nation.

Erdogan also said his government is implementing the “Great Istanbul Tunnel Project,” which he said “will be the third tube to run through beneath the Sea of Marmara.”

“We are preparing Istanbul for the Century of Turkiye, and Istanbul will be the locomotive for the rise of the Century of Turkiye,” he added.

The elections in Turkiye will take place on May 14. On the presidential ballot, voters will choose between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, seeking reelection, leading opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu, Muharrem Ince, and Sinan Ogan, News Agency Anadolu reported.

Meanwhile, 24 political parties and 151 independent candidates are vying for seats in the 600-member Turkish parliament.

Congress advocating about ‘separating’ Karnataka from India, claims PM in his rally

    [ad_1]

Nanjanagudu: In a blistering attack on the Congress during his last campaign rally ahead of May 10 Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused the party of openly advocating for “separating” Karnataka from India.

The Prime Minister’s charge comes a day after former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi addressed a campaign rally at Hubballi on Saturday.

Referring to her speech in a tweet, the party said Gandhi, who is the Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson, “sends a strong message to 6.5 crore Kannadigas”. It also posted pictures of Gandhi speaking at the public meeting.

    MS Education Academy

“The Congress will not allow anyone to pose a threat to Karnataka’s reputation, sovereignty or integrity”, the tweet read.

Modi, apparently referring to this, alleged that the disease of the ‘tukde-tukde gang’ (anti-national elements) has reached the Congress’ top level.

“When it comes to working against India’s interests, Congress’ royal family will be at the forefront. I want to speak about a serious issue here, I want to say it as there is a lot of pain in my heart. This country can never forgive such a game. This family, to influence the politics in the country, is encouraging foreign forces to interfere,” Modi said.

Addressing the public meeting here in Mysuru district, he accused them of secretly meeting foreign diplomats who hate India, repeatedly indulging in activities that insult India’s sovereignty and said they are not ashamed of it.

Stating that in this Karnataka election, Congress’s ‘shahi parivar’ (royal family) has gone a step ahead “breaking all the limits and crushing the feelings of the country”, Modi said “not only Karnataka, I want to tell this to entire country with lot of pain that in this election Congress’ shahi parivar yesterday came to Karnataka and said that they want to protect the sovereignty of Karnataka.”

“Karnataka’s sovereignty, you know what is the meaning of it? They have sat in Parliament for so many years, they have taken oath on India’s Constitution, and they say this. When a country becomes independent, then that country is called a sovereign nation. The meaning of what Congress is saying is the party believes that Karnataka is separate from India,” he charged.

Asking people whether they approve it and whether they will punish Congress for such a statement, the Prime Minister said it means Congress is openly advocating about seperating Karnataka from India.

“I had never thought that the disease of the tukde-tukde gang would reach the Congress’ top level,” he said, accusing the party of insulting Kannada fighters who fought for India’s independence and insulting the patriotism of crores of Kannadigas.

Noting that this is the land where ‘Rashtra Kavi’ Kuvempu had said Karnataka is integral part of India with lines in the state anthem – “Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate Jaya he Karnataka Maate”, Modi said “for every Kannadiga, Karnataka is a mother and she has been described as the daughter of ‘Bharat ma’. I can feel the feelings of Kannadigas.”

Insulting the feelings of Karnataka is like insulting the “culture and pride” of the state, he added.

Further accusing Congress of creating rift between states and spreading communal fire, the Prime Minister said whenever they did such things, people of India united to defeat them.

Congress wants to somehow come to power in Karnataka to get “political oxygen”, he said, adding that “people here can never forgive them for this sin… Congress will get the response for this on May 10 with full strength.”

Stating that he was visiting the famous Srikanteshwara temple here, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva connected to the mythological context of ‘Vishapaan’ (Shiva drinking venom), after the rally, Modi said: “The way Congress abused me in Karnataka and poured venom on me, Lord Srikanteshwara gave me the strength to bear it.”

Thanking people for the blessings and affection towards him during campaigning in Karnataka, calling it his biggest asset, he said this is my last programme in this election campaign and after this he will leave for Delhi.

“I’m ending my campaign here, now you take the baton,” he said as he urged the people to vote on May 10 and exercise their franchise.

Modi later visited the Srikanteshwara temple in the district.

The Congress leader is scheduled to address the public meeting over the problems of unemployed youth and students in the state. She will announce youth declaration.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka told reporters on Sunday that Congress Bharosa Sabha is aimed at giving an assurance to the youth.

He said the party would announce what it plans to do for the unemployed after coming to power in the state.

He said justice should be done to youth in Telangana which was achieved with their struggle and sacrifice.

Bhatti Vikramarka said if voted to power in Telangana, the Congress party would provide jobs to the unemployed and also provide houses for the poor.

The Congress leader alleged that the state government was playing with the careers and lives of 30 lakh unemployed youth and students.

Priyanka Gandhi will arrive in Hyderabad after completing the election campaign in Karnataka.

She will lead a rally from the statue of Srikanth Chari, who sacrificed his life for Telangana. It will cover about 2 km to reach Saroornagar stadium where the public meeting will take place.

The opposition party has made arrangements to mobilise large number of people for the meeting which is being held in the wake of Telangana Public Service Commission (TSPSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) paper leak cases.

Congress leaders alleged that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government headed by Chief Minister KCR was least bothered about the TSPSC paper leak case and the future of 30 lakh educated unemployed youth.

KCR funding both Congress, JD(S): Bandi in Karnataka poll rally

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Congress party is trying to use Karnataka as an ATM to campaign for the next year’s general elections across the country, the Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party president alleged on Friday.

Participating in the election campaign for the BJP in the Mulabagilu assembly constituency in Karnataka, Sanjay said the Congress, if voted to power in the state, would loot the people and mint money, so that it could use it for its election campaign across the country in the next year’s general elections.

“In a way, the Congress is planning to use Karnataka as an ATM to make big money for funding its election campaign in the Lok Sabha elections,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

Stating that development in Karnataka would come to a halt if the Congress is voted to power, the BJP president reminded that the Congress would not be able to mobilise funds from the Centre, as it was in power there. “Where does it get funds for development? From Pakistan?” he asked.

He alleged that the Congress and the Janata Dal (S) had a secret understanding in the elections. “Wherever the Congress is strong, the JD (S) would field a weak candidate and vice versa. Both the parties are getting funds from Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao,” he said.

Sanjay said the Congress and the JD (S) haven’t done anything for the development of Karnataka in the last 70 years and whatever development the state had witnessed, it was only during the BJP regime with Central funds.

Sanjay claimed that the BJP was the only party which was putting up a strong resistance to the AIMIM in the old city of Hyderabad. “At Bhagya Lakshmi temple near Charminar, the BJP has hoisted the saffron flag, uprooting the MIM flags,” he pointed out.

He lashed out at the Congress leaders for saying that their party would lift the ban on the Popular Front of India if it was voted to power. “We need to drive such leaders away in the elections,” he said.

Stating that the BJP was the only party which would protect the Hindu dharma and work for the majority of Hindus, Sanjay called upon the voters to hound out the parties which celebrate the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan, who had committed rapes and murders on SCs, STs and Lingayats.

“There is no question of tolerating such forces who belittle Hindu dharma and try to split Hindu votes in the name of castes, creed and colour,” he said and appealed to the voters to elect the BJP in order to prevent the outbreak of terrorism in the state.

Earlier in the day, Sanjay conducted door-to-door campaign for the BJP at Yelahanka on the outskirts of Bengaluru. He asked the party leaders and cadre to step up their public outreach campaign. “We need to meet the people directly door to door and explain the good work done by the BJP government in the state and the Modi government at the Centre,” he said.

Several BJP workers welcomed Sanjay by bursting crackers. They showed enthusiasm in taking selfies with him.

The Telangana BJP chief also held a teleconference with party leaders of Telangana and asked them to make the 100th episode of Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme a big success.

“There should be public viewing of the Prime Minister’s programme to be held in at least 100 centres at every assembly constituency, which must be viewed by at least 100 people at each centre. Telangana should be at the top in the country in highlighting the programme,” he added.

  • Montana House cancels session after rally for trans lawmaker

Montana House cancels session after rally for trans lawmaker

    [ad_1]

    transgender day of visibility 69112

“Currently, all representatives are free to participate in House debates while following the House rules,” Regier told reporters. “The choice to not follow the House rules is one that Rep. Zephyr has made. The only person silencing Rep. Zephyr is Rep. Zephyr. The Montana House will not be bullied.”

Under Regier’s leadership, the House has not allowed Zephyr to speak since last week when she said that those who voted to ban gender-affirming care for young people would have “blood on their hands.” He and other Republicans said the remark was far outside the boundaries of appropriate civil discourse and demanded she apologize before being allowed to participate in legislative discussions.

Zephyr’s remarks, and the Republican response, set off a chain of events that culminated in a rally outside the Capitol at noon Monday and seven arrests later that afternoon when protesters interrupted House proceedings after Zephyr was denied the right to speak on a bill. The scene at the Statehouse galvanized both those demanding she be allowed to speak and those saying her actions constitute an unacceptable attack on civil discourse.

Much like developments in the Tennessee Statehouse weeks ago — where two lawmakers were expelled after participating in a post-school shooting gun control protest that interrupted proceedings — Zephyr’s punishment has ignited a firestorm of debate about governance and democracy in politically polarizing times.

It has showcased the growing power of the Montana Freedom Caucus, a group of right-wing lawmakers that has spearheaded the charge to discipline Zephyr. The caucus re-upped its demands and rhetoric Monday. In a statement they said that Zephyr’s decision to hoist a microphone toward the gallery’s protesters amounted to “encouraging an insurrection.”

It’s unclear if Regier and House leaders will follow the Freedom Caucus’s demand. Republican Rep. Casey Knudsen, the chair of the House Rules committee, said Monday’s cancellation gave leadership time to respond to Monday’s events. House Democratic Leader Kim Abbott said she saw leadership’s decision to cancel as giving lawmakers “some time to regroup.”

The House is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday afternoon, the chamber’s Republicans announced Tuesday.

Although several protesters resisted law enforcement officers trying to arrest them on Monday, Abbott pushed back at characterizing the activity as violent. She acknowledged it was disruptive, but called the demonstration peaceful. She said public protests were a predictable response to a lawmaker representing more than 10,000 constituents not being allowed to speak and questioned bringing in officers in riot gear to handle the chanting protesters.

“It was chanting, but it absolutely was not violent,” she said. “Sometimes extreme measures have a response like this.”

There were no reports of damage to the building and lawmakers were not threatened.

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a massive public rally on April 30 at Channapatna in Karnataka’s Ramnagar district ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled to be held in the southern state on May 10, a BJP leader said on Saturday.

A party leader said that the BJP is aiming at winning more seats in certain parts of the state where it does not enjoy a significant stronghold.

Former Karnataka chief minister and Janata Dal-Secular leader H.D. Kumaraswamy is contesting from the Channapatna constituency. The BJP has fielded former minister C.P. Yogeshwar from this seat. Political analysts believe the constituency would witness a direct contest between the JD-S and the BJP.

    MS Education Academy

Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy is contesting from the neighbouring Ramnagar constituency. The region is considered as a bastion of the JD-S.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has planned a mega rally in Channapatna.

Preparations are currently underway at Shettihalli village.

According to sources, a huge stage and shelter is being erected to accommodate 2-3 lakh people. The BJP workers will be roped in from the neighbouring districts of Tumakuru, Mandya and Mysuru.

Yogeshwar on Saturday said there would be no road show this time in Channapatna. “The programme is scheduled to take place for about 2 hours. The party wants to win more seats in the old Mysuru region (south Karnataka),” he said.
