Raking up old tweet of mine shows Congress’s desperation: Khushbu

Bengaluru: Launching an all-out attack against the Congress party after an old tweet of hers on the name ‘Modi’ went viral today, actor and BJP leader Khushbu Sundar said it exposed how desperate the opposition party was.

The 2018 tweet of the National Commission for Women (NCW) member has gone viral and she has not deleted the post.

“Not only does it show how desperate they (Congress party) are, but it exposes their level of ignorance on the issue they are raking up,” she told PTI.

Sundar, also BJP national executive committee member who had quit the Congress party and joined the saffron organisation in 2020 posted a tweet in 2018 saying “…Let’s change the meaning of #Modi to corruption..suits better.”

In the wake of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification over his equating the surname Modi to “thieves” the party was quick to pick on Khushbu’s old tweet.

Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi via a Twitter post on Saturday morning, “will you make one of your disciples named Modi file a defamation case against Khushbu Sundar too?”

“I have never deleted any of the tweets on my timeline and I will not do so now,” Sundar said.

She asked “what are the Congress leaders trying to do by picking on me? Are they equating me to Rahul Gandhi?”

Explaining her 2018 tweet, Khushbu said “I was in Congress party then and I was only performing my duty as the spokesperson of the Congress. This is the language we were supposed to speak and that is exactly what I was doing. I was following the party leader. This is his language.”

Asked if she saw nothing wrong in insulting the ‘Modi’ surname, she said, “Rahul Gandhi has stooped down to the level of calling all Modis as thieves, I have only used the term ‘Corruption’. The Congress party is incapable of seeing the difference. But if they have the guts, I challenge the Congress leaders to file a case against me and I will face them legally.”

Sundar also pointed out that the Congress Party never liked her appreciating the positive steps taken by the ruling BJP. “Whether it was the Triple Talaq, Abrogation of Article 370, or the launch of the New Education Policy (NEP), the Congress party always had a problem when I tweeted appreciation,” she recalled.

An actor who has acted in over 100 films, Khushbu Sundar initially joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and then switched over to the Congress party before joining the BJP.

  • India slams Pak foreign min Bilawal for raking up Kashmir at UNSC debate

India slams Pak foreign min Bilawal for raking up Kashmir at UNSC debate

    [ad_1]

United Nations: India tore into Pakistan after its foreign minister raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir at a Security Council debate on women, peace, and security, saying it is “unworthy” to even respond to such “malicious and false propaganda”.

Responding to Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj on Tuesday termed his statement as “baseless and politically motivated”.

“Before I conclude, let me dismiss the frivolous, baseless and politically motivated remarks made by the delegate of Pakistan regarding the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.

Speaking at the UN Security Council open debate on Women, Peace and Security’, Kamboj said: “my delegation considers it unworthy to even respond to such malicious and false propaganda.”

“Rather, our focus is where it shall always be positive and forward-looking. Today’s discussion is critically important to strengthen our collective efforts to accelerate the full implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda. We respect the topic of the debate and recognise the importance of time. As such, our focus shall remain on the topic,” she said.

Kamboj’s sharp retort came after Pakistan Foreign Minister Zardari referred to Jammu and Kashmir in his remarks to the Council debate held under Mozambique’s Presidency for this month, on the eve of International Women’s Day.

India has previously told Pakistan that the entire territories of the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have been, are, and shall always be part of India.

India has been maintaining that it desires normal neighbourly relations with Pakistan, while insisting that the onus is on Islamabad to create an environment that is free of terror and hostility for such an engagement.

The ties between India and Pakistan came under severe strain after India’s warplanes pounded a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist training camp in Pakistan’s Balakot in February 2019 in response to the Pulwama terror attack.

The relations further deteriorated after India in August 2019 announced the withdrawal of Jammu and Kashmir’s special powers and the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into Union Territories.

  • Pakistan raking up IWT violation without any reason: Jitendra Singh

Pakistan raking up IWT violation without any reason: Jitendra Singh

    [ad_1]

Kathua: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Saturday said Pakistan is habitual of making unnecessary noises alleging violations of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), even though there has been none and India has always stood by its end of the pact.

The statement of the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s office comes on the heels of India issuing a notice to Pakistan seeking a review and modification of the IWT in view of Islamabad’s “intransigence” in complying with the dispute redressal mechanism of the pact that was inked over six decades ago for sharing of waters of cross-border rivers.

The step comes around 10 months after the World Bank announced appointing a neutral expert and a chair of the Court of Arbitration under two separate processes to resolve the differences over the Kishenganga and Ratle Hydro Electric Projects following Islamabad’s refusal to address the matter through bilateral talks.

“IWT has a long history after it was signed in 1960, giving control of three rivers each to India and Pakistan. While Jhelum, Chenab and Indus were given to Pakistan, India was given the control of Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej.

“The first phase of Shahpur Kandi dam project on river Ravi is nearing completion. The project was in limbo for the last 40 years and our share of water was also flowing across the border.

“Similarly, the Ratle project in Kishtwar over Chenab was abandoned for eight years and the work on it started only last year under joint venture between the Centre and the UT administration,” Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Kathua district.

He said Pakistan has raised an objection and is claiming violation of the IWT but India’s position is strong as there was no violation and the waters are allowed to flow into Pakistan as per the agreement, despite construction of dams and other projects.

“They are habitual of creating disturbances without any reason The concerned ministry has already taken up the issue with Pakistan,” the minister said, adding the government will do whatever is necessary in the national interest.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated a ‘Young Start-Up Conclave’ organised by CSIR, Ministry of Science and Technology, and called for a change of attitude of youth towards startups.

“The government job mind-set is proving an impediment to startup culture, mainly in north India. The youth of Jammu and Kashmir need not to miss the startup bus, which is playing a crucial role in India’s technological and economic journey to emerge as a frontline nation in the world,” he said.

The minister said J&K has a huge unexplored potential for agriculture and tech startups as the geography and climatic conditions here favour the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants.

The minister said a new wave of agri-tech startups has emerged in the country in the last few years, which are solving problems of supply chain management, cooling and refrigeration, seed management and distribution, and helping farmers access a wider range of markets.

“Jammu & Kashmir and several hill territories as well as the Himalayan states are going to make a significant value edition to build India’s future economy because these are the territories whose resources have remain under-utilised in the past,” he said.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi giving a focussed attention to these areas, they are going to play a pivotal role in placing India on the world pedestal by 2047, he said.
