  • One Dead, Another Critical In Lightning Strike

    SRINAGAR: A man died while another sustained critical injuries as lightning struck them in the Rajouri district.

    Locals said that on Thursday evening, lightning struck the Patli forest area of Kotranka sub-division in which two men fell unconscious with critical injuries.

    Both were taken to the Community Health Center Kandi, they said.

    An official said that 28-year-old Zafar Iqbal, son of Mohammad Bashir, a resident of Panjnara was brought dead to the hospital.

    Meanwhile, Showkat Ali, 22, son of Wali Mohammad, a resident of Panjnara is critically injured and has been referred to Government Medical College Rajouri for specialised treatment, the official said. (KNO)

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday said it recovered a drone carrying with ammunition and cash in Beri Patan area of Rajouri district.

    Quoting an official, KNO reported that suspicious movement of an aerial object was picked last night in Beri Patan near the Line of Control after which a massive cordon and search operation was launched.

    He said during search of the area a drone carrying 5 AK magazines and some cash was recovered.

    The official said massive search and cordon was launched in the area and extensive search is going on in many villages and some more recoveries are expected.

    SRINAGAR: Wildlife authorities on Monday captured a leopard after it attacked and injured a man in Poonch district.

    Official said that Zafar Iqbal son of Mohammad Sadiq Gujjar, a resident of Marha village in Surankote, was attacked by the leopard in the wee hours in the area. The people nearby made hue and cry which made the animal run away and left the person seriously injured, the said.

    The locals brought the injured person immediately to SDH Surankote for treatment. After giving first aid, they said, the injured was referred to District Hospital Rajouri for further treatment.

    Later, Wild Life Team Surankote Headed by Ranger Officer Wildlife Idress Khan along with team rushed to the spot and captured the leopard.

    Mushtaq H. Choudhary, Wildlife Warden Rajouri-Poonch, said the animal has been shifted to veterniary hospital Rajouri. (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: Jammu & Kashmir Police in Rajouri district claimed to have solved a major burglary case that occurred in Malkhana (seizure room) of the district court complex by arresting two accused involved in the act and recovering stolen property worth crores.

    Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri, Amritpal Singh while addressing a news conference held at the conference hall of police lines Rajouri, said that in the intervening night of 3rd and 4th April 2023, a theft incident took place inside the Malkhana of court complex Rajouri in which various items were stolen.

    In this regard, police said that a case under FIR number 143/2023 under sections 457/380 IPC was registered at Police Station Rajouri, and after this, special teams were constituted, which analyzed CCTV footage at various locations along with technical evidence.

    SSP further said that building upon this, a few suspects were rounded up and the accused were identified as Mohammad Showkat son of Chowdhary Mir Mohammad resident of Khadi Karmara in Poonch, and Mohd Taj son of Mohd Aslam resident of Hayyatpura in Manjakote Rajouri.

    “Both the accused confessed their involvement in the case and on the disclosure of Mohd Showket son of Mir Mohammad, the Police team recovered the stolen property which included four packets of Heroin substance weighing approx four kilograms and valued in crores, one lakh cash in fake India Currency Notes and one mobile phone,” SSP Rajouri Amritpal Singh said.

    He added that further investigation in the case is going on to unearth the involvement of the accused in other theft cases in the district.

    SSP Rajouri Amritpal Singh further stated that accused Mohammed Showket is a notorious criminal, who was involved in some unlawful acts in past also and is also an absconder from Poonch while a warrant under 512 CrPC already stands issued against him. (KNO)

  • Teenage Boy Dies After Falling From Moving Minibus

    SRINAGAR: A teenage boy, hailing from Larkuti village of Kotranka sub division in Rajouri district, died after he fell from a passenger bus in the district.

    Quoting officials, KNO reported that a passenger bus JK11-9702 was on way from Larkuti to Kotranka when a teenage boy standing in entrance portion fell off.

    They said that the boy sustained serious injuries after which he was taken to Community Health Center (CHC) Kandi where he was provided medical first aid and then referred to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri.

    Police officials further informed that the teenage boy later succumbed to his injuries during treatment after which medico-legal formalities and post mortem examination was conducted.

    A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in police station Kandi.

    The deceased has been identified by police as Rashid Hussain (18) son of Mohammad Aftab resident of Larkuti.

    SRINAGAR: Seventeen cattle were charred alive after a mud house was gutted in a fire in Manjakote area of Rajouri district overnight, officials said on Friday.

    They said that the fire erupted during intervening night of March 30-31,in a mud house of  Tazeem Akhtar widow of Mohammad Anayat at Panjgrain Thanda Pani, W. No 5, in Manjakote, resulting in the charring alive of two buffaloes, 15 sheep and ten hens.

    However there was no human loss in this incident, they said. A police officer said a case has been registered and cause of the fire is being ascertained. (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: The residents of Dhangir village of Rajouri on Monday said they will return all government aid including ex-gratia relief and jobs as security forces have failed to track down attackers of January 01 militant attack.

    Addressing a press conference, the victim families said that around 3 months have passed since the gruesome attack but there is no clue of attackers and security forces and government are only giving assurances.

    “We want justice not financial aid or jobs. We just don’t need assurances but justice. We are ready for a long agitation and will return all the aid and jobs in protest,” said Saroj Bala, who is now alone in her family as she lost her both sons in the attack that day.

    7 people lost their lives and 13 others were injured after militants resorted to indiscriminate firing in Dhangri village on January, while one more person died after an IED explosion took place in the area next day. (KNO)
