Hyderabad: GHMC retrieves 19 bikes swept off by rains from nalas

Hyderabad: After the recent massive storm in the city which led to the washing away of many vehicles and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Disaster Response Force (DRF) has retrieved 19 bikes from city nalas.
The DRF team attended to 59 complaints in the city after the heavy rainfall. 15 complaints were regarding water stagnation, 25 were about uprooted trees and tree branches that were obstructing traffic and 19 were regarding vehicles that were washed away into nala.
DRF has cleared catch-pits, garbage choking the nalas and drained out water from low-lying areas, and also removed tangled wires and pumped out water from apartment cellars.

The team responded to complaints from Kalasiguda, Lalapet, Lingampally, Hakimpet (Karwan), Toli Chowk, Nallakunta, Padma Rao Nagar, Sudarshan Nagar Colony in Serilingampally and others.

Two deaths reported as heavy rains lash Oman

Muscat: The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) of the Sultanate of Oman, announced that two deaths had been recorded after three vehicles were swept away in floodwaters in Wadi Al Batha, Wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, local media reported.
The Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) sent rescue teams to the area after receiving a report about the incident on Wednesday evening.
The CDAA said in a statement, “In cooperation with the Police Command of the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, the bodies of two citizens, one man and one woman were found in the stream of Wadi Al-Batha in the Wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali.”

As per Times of Oman, the Omani citizens were among nine people who were missing after three cars were caught in the floods.
Six people were rescued. A search is continuing for the other one.
The Civil Aviation Authority called on everyone to take precautions and caution during thunderstorms, not to cross valleys, avoid low places, and not go to the sea during the warning period.
According to Royal Decree No. (38/2016) of the Traffic Act, whoever intentionally crosses valleys and endangers his life or the lives of others can be punished with three months imprisonment and a fine of 500 Omani Riyals, or one of these two penalties.
Many parts of Oman are witnessing heavy rain and the Omani Meteorological Office has warned that the rain will continue until Saturday, April 29.

The highest rainfall is expected in the North and South Al Sharqiyah and Al Dakhiliyah governorates.
Several roads in Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan have already been cut off due to overflowing wadis, and authorities have advised people to take extra precautions while travelling.

Rains Continue To Lash JK, Met Forecasts More Till May 4

SRINAGAR: Weather department on Friday forecast “improvement” in weather from afternoon onwards but said that there are more rains in store till May 4 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Quoting a metrological department official, GNS reported that Improvement in weather is expected from afternoon onward.
From April 29- May 2nd, he said, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy. “Possibility of intermittent rain/thunderstorm at scattered places is expected towards late afternoon/evening (50% chance).”
From May 3-4, he said, there is possibility of widespread light to moderate rain and thunder expected in J&K. “Some places are likely to receive heavy rains,” he said.
Overall, he said, “weather is very likely to remain erratic till May 4.”
“Farmers are advised to postpone spraying of orchards till May 4,” he added.
In last 24 hours till 8:30 a.m. this morning, Srinagar recorded 18.6mm of rain, Qazigund 6.8mm, Pahalgam 7.7mm, Kupwara 15.3mm, Kokernag 5.0mm, Gulmarg 26.4mm and Banihal 1.1mm.
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 6.5°C against 7.0°C on the previous night and it was 2.8°C below normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 6.8°C against 6.6°C on the previous night and it was 1.0°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 4.2°C against 3.5°C on previous night and it was 0.2°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Kokernag recorded a low of 5.7°C against 5.2°C on the previous night and it was 2.4°C below normal for the place, the officials said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.0°C against minus 0.5°C on previous night and it was 5.2°C below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.
In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 5.6°C against 3.4°C on the previous night and it was 2.2°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.
Jammu recorded a low of 19.4°C against 19.1°C on the previous night. It was 2.8°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.
Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 8.3°C (1.4°C below normal), Batote 10.4°C (1.6°C below normal), Katra 16.8°C (2.1°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 7.8°C (1.1°C below normal). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 2.2°C and 4.6°C respectively, the official said.

Maha: 6L hectare land affected by unseasonal rains; farmers to get compensation

Nagpur: Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Abdul Sattar on Thursday said farmers will not face shortage of seeds or fertilisers and will get adequate compensation for crop loss due to unseasonal rains after ‘panchnamas’ (assessment) were completed.
He was addressing a press conference after chairing a review meeting of Kharif season preparation in Nagpur division.
“Farmers in the state will not face any shortage of seeds and fertilizers as these have been allocated as per district-wise demand. Compensation to the farmers affected by the recent rains will be given as soon as loss assessment surveys are completed,” a District Information Office release quoted him as saying.

“A total of 46 lakh hectares of land was affected by excessive and unseasonal rainfall between June last year and now. A total of 57 lakh farmers were affected. The state government will provide double the relief set as per National Disaster Relief Fund criteria,” he said.
Farmers in the state will get Rs 12,000 annually since the state government will pay Rs 6,000 over and above the Rs 6,000 paid by the Union government under the PM Kissan Samman Nidhi Yojana, Sattar said.

Rains Lash J&K, ‘Erratic Weather’ Forecast Till May 4

Srinagar, April 27 (GNS): Intermittent rains lashed Jammu and Kashmir since last afternoon, mostly during the night, while night temperature stayed below normal on Thursday, officials said. Also, “erratic weather” has been forecast in J&K till May 4.
A meteorological department official here told GNS that in last 24 hours till 8:30 a.m. this morning, Srinagar recorded 39.7mm of rain, Qazigund 20.8mm, Pahalgam 19.3mm, Kupwara 21.0mm, Kokernag 31.6mm, Gulmarg 43.6mmJammu 3.8mm, Banihal 21.8mm, Batote 32.6mm, Katra 16.2mm, Bhaderwah 43.2mm and Kathua 3.8mm.
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 7.0°C against 7.9°C on the previous night and it was 2.3°C below normal for the summer capital.

Director Meteorological department (MeT), Sonum Lotus said that there was a forecast of a brief spell of rain/thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty winds & hailstorm in some places at many places of Kashmir division, Ramban, Banihal, Poonch and Rajouri districts from this afternoon.
He said that the weather would continue to remain wet for the next few days as light rains are expected to continue at scattered places in Kashmir till April 28.

Moreover, reports reaching KNO said that the embankment of river Jhelum has got damaged due to the frequent wet spells from past one week near Peerzoo restaurant here.
The river Jhelum embankment has got damaged due to the rains while the locals said that none from the administration has visited the spot to assess the situation.

SRINAGAR: Light rainfall lashed several areas across Kashmir including Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, bringing down the temperature in the Valley while the weatherman here has predicted more rains till April 28.

MeT Predicts Rains In Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Amid forecast for generally cloudy weather with possibility of intermittent light rain from April 26, night temperature recorded a rise on Tuesday.
A meteorological department official said that there was possibility of rain and snow over upper reaches at some places from Wednesday.
“From April 26-28, weather is expected to be generally cloudy with possibility of intermittent light rain with thunder/lightning (light snowfall over higher reaches of Central and North, Northwestern parts of Kashmir) at many places with peak intensity on April 27,” he said, adding, (moderate intensity Rainfall at few places).”
He said strong gusty wind towards late afternoon/evening with possibility of hailstorm can’t be ruled out during the period.
“From 29-30th April, generally cloudy weather with light rain is expected at a few places for short period,” he said, adding, “there is no forecast of major rain/snowfall till ending April.”
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 8.3°C against 5.1°C on the previous night and it was 0.6°C below normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 4.8°C against 3.6°C on the previous night and it was 2.7°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 1.6°C against 0.5°C on previous night and it was 2.4°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 7.8°C (below normal by 1.6°C), Batote 10.7°C (below normal by 1.3°C), Katra 16.1°C (2.0°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 7.9°C (0.5°C below normal). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 1.2°C and 3.1°C respectively, the officials added. (GNS)
