MeT Predicts More Rains, Lightning As Night Temp Records Drop In JK

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir recorded major drop in temperature while as weather department on Sunday forecast more rain, thunderstorm, and lightning at most places of the Kashmir Valley and many places of the Jammu region during late afternoon and evening.
“Hailstorms with gusty winds are also expected at a few places,” an official of the meteorological department said.
On May 8, he said, rain and thunderstorm were expected at many places of J&K with the possibility of “hailstorms and gusty wind at one or two places.”
He said mainly dry weather was expected on May 9-12.
He advised farmers to postpone spraying of orchards and harvesting of crops till May 8.
Tourists have been asked to keep warm clothes and eatables ready as the weather will be colder till May 8.
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 6.5°C against 10.4°C on the previous night and it was 4.2°C above normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 5.2°C against 8.0°C on the previous night and it was below normal by 4.0°C for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 2.1°C against 5.4°C on previous night and it was 3.4°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Kokernag recorded a low of 4.2°C against 8.2°C on the previous night and it was 5.0°C below normal for the place, the officials said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 0.4°C against 4.0°C on previous night and it was 4.8°C below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.
In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 6.3°C against 7.4°C as on the previous night and it was 3.0°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.
Jammu recorded a low of 16.1°C against 19.7°C on the previous night and it was 6.9°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.
Banihal recorded a low of 6.3°C (below normal by 4.6°C), Batote 8.3°C (4.5°C below normal), Katra 13.8°C (5.9°C below normal) and Bhaderwah 6.7°C (below normal by 2.9°C). Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of minus 0.8°C, he added. (GNS)

MeT Forecasts Erratic Weather Till May 4

SRINAGAR: Intermittent rains lashed Jammu and Kashmir since last afternoon, mostly during the night, while night temperature stayed below normal on Thursday, officials said. Also, “erratic weather” has been forecast in J&K till May 4.
Quoting a meteorological department official GNS reported that in last 24 hours till 8:30 a.m. this morning, Srinagar recorded 39.7mm of rain, Qazigund 20.8mm, Pahalgam 19.3mm, Kupwara 21.0mm, Kokernag 31.6mm, Gulmarg 43.6mmJammu 3.8mm, Banihal 21.8mm, Batote 32.6mm, Katra 16.2mm, Bhaderwah 43.2mm and Kathua 3.8mm.
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 7.0°C against 7.9°C on the previous night and it was 2.3°C below normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 6.6°C against 5.2°C on the previous night and it was 1.2°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 3.5°C against 2.6°C on previous night and it was 0.9°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Jammu recorded a low of 19.1°C against 18.5°C on the previous night. It was 2.8°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.
Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 7.2°C (2.5°C below normal), Batote 7.0°C (5.0°C below normal), Katra 14.5°C (4.4°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 6.8°C (2.3°C below normal). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of 2.6°C and minus 3.5°C respectively, the official said.
The MeT department has predicted that weather was likely to remain “erratic” till May 4.
From April 27-28, the official said, intermittent rain, thunderstorm and snowfall (over higher reaches) was very likely at most places of J&K. However, he said, there is no forecast of major snowfall.
From April 29-3, he said, weather is likely to be partly to generally cloudy with possibility of intermittent rain, thunderstorm at scattered places.
“Overall, weather is very likely to remain erratic from April 27-May 4 in J&K,” he said. Also, the department has urged farmers to postpone spraying of orchards till May 4.

Intermittent Rain, Thunderstorm To Continue In JK: MeT

SRINAGAR: Weather department here on Tuesday said that intermittent rain and thunderstorms was very likely to continue in Jammu and Kashmir till April 21.
“During this wet spell of (18-19th) thunderstorms with strong gusty wind reaching (20-30KMPH) and hailstorm is also possible at some places of Jammu and Kashmir,” a meteorological department official said. From April 22-25, he said, the weather was likely to be “mainly dry.”
He said in last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, Srinagar received 6.9mm of rain, Qazigund 11.0mm, Pahalgam 22.4mm, Kupwara 15.7mm, Gulmarg 12.2mm, Jammu 6.2mm, Banihal 21.1mm, Katra 4.4mm and Bhaderwah 9.2mm.
Regarding temperature, the official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 11.0°C against 10.7°C on the previous night and it was 3.1°C below normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 9.8°C against 8.8°C on the previous night and it was 3.3°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 3.6°C against 3.5°C on the previous night and it was 1.3°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 8.6°C against 8.7°C on the previous night and it was 1.8°C above normal for the north Kashmir area.
Jammu recorded a low of 20.0°C against 25.9°C on the previous night. It was 0.1°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.
Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 10.5°C (above normal by 2.1°C), Batote 12.6°C (above normal by 1.2°C), Katra 18.5°C (1.4°C above normal) and Bhadarwah 11.4°C (4.2°C below normal). Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of 5.0°C and Kargil 5.4°C, he said. (GNS)

Widespread Rain, Gusty Wind In JK In Next 48 Hours: MeT

SRINAGAR: Weather department on Friday forecast widespread rains and thunderstorm with snowfall over higher reaches at most places of Jammu and Kashmir till weekend.
Quoting a meteorological department official,GNS reported that there was possibility of hailstorm in plains during March 24-25.
“Thunderstorm may be accompanied by strong gusty winds. Rain likely to commence from March 24 afternoon onwards,” he said.
The weather department also urged farmers to “postpone” spraying of orchards while commuters intending to travel on highway and other hilly areas have been asked to confirm road status from concerned traffic police before starting their journey.
Regarding temperature, the MeT official said, Srinagar recorded a low of 5.3°C against 5.2°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C above normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 4.0°C against 3.2°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 4.0°C against 3.7°C on the previous night and it was 0.8°C above normal for the north Kashmir area.
Jammu recorded a low of 14.9°C against 13.8°C on the previous night. It was 0.6°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.
Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 5.0°C (below normal by 0.3°C), Batote 7.5°C (below normal by 0.6°C), Katra 12.0°C (0.5°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 5.6°C (1.7°C above normal).
Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil, he said, recorded a low of minus 3.0°C and minus 1.9°C respectively.
