MP: Railway issues notice to Lord Bajrang Bali for removal of encroachment

    [ad_1]

Morena: The Railway department has served a notice to Lord Bajrang Bali asking for the removal of the “encroachment” on the Railway land in Sabalgarh town in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district, but withdrew it after realising the mistake, an official said on Sunday.

The notice addressed to Bajrang Bali and issued on February 8, directed the removal of the encroachment within seven days or face action. The encroacher will have to pay the expense if the Railways takes action to remove the structure, it said.

The notice was pasted at the temple of the deity.

After the notice went viral and caused an uproar, the Railways rectified the mistake and issued a new one in the name of the priest of the temple.

Jhansi Railway Division’s PRO (Public Relations Officer) Manoj Mathur said the initial notice was served mistakenly.

“Now, the new notice was served to the priest of the temple,” he said.

Earlier, the notice was served to “Bajrang Bali, Sabalgarh” by the senior section engineer of the Jhansi railway division.

The structure was to be removed for the construction of the Sheopur-Gwalior broad-gauge line.

The new notice, issued on February 10, was served in the name of Harishankar Sharma, the priest of the temple.

  • SC to hear in May pleas concerning removal of encroachments from railway land in Haldwani

SC to hear in May pleas concerning removal of encroachments from railway land in Haldwani

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it would hear in May the pleas on which it had last month stayed the Uttarakhand High Court’s order for removal of encroachments from 29 acres of land claimed by the railways in Haldwani.

The matter came up for hearing before a bench of Justices SK Kaul and Manoj Misra, which listed it for hearing on May 2.

On January 5, the top court had stayed the high court order for removal of encroachments from the 29 acres of land claimed by the railways in Haldwani, terming it a “human issue” and saying 50,000 people cannot be uprooted overnight.

“We do believe that a workable arrangement is necessary to segregate people who may have no rights in the land and those who have…. Coupled with schemes of rehabilitation which may already exist while recognising the need of the railways,” it had said.

During Tuesday’s hearing, the bench was requested to grant eight weeks’ time to authorities to work out a solution as indicated by the court last month.

According to the railways, there are 4,365 encroachers on the land, while the occupants were earlier staging protests in Haldwani, asserting that they were the rightful owners of the land.

Nearly 50,000 people, a majority of them Muslims, belonging to more than 4,000 families reside on the disputed land.

Observing that many of the occupants have claimed that they have been residing there for more than 50 years, the apex court had last month observed that there was a “human angle” to the problem and the authorities concerned had to find a “practical way out”.

It had also issued notices to the railways and the Uttarakhand government, seeking their responses to a batch of pleas challenging the high court order for removal of encroachments.

In its December 20 last year order, the high court had said, “The railway authorities, in coordination with the district administration, and if need be, with any other paramilitary forces, shall immediately, after giving a week’s notice to the occupants over the railway land, ask them to vacate the land within the aforesaid period.”

The apex court had, however, said since the people sought to be removed from the land have been staying there for several years, some rehabilitation has to be found for them.

Staying the high court’s directions, the apex court had said there had to be complete restraint on any further occupation of land and construction whether by the existing occupants or anyone else.

The high court had ordered demolition of constructions on the alleged encroached railway land at Banbhoolpura in Haldwani.

It had directed that a week’s notice be given to the encroachers, after which the encroachments should be demolished.

The residents have submitted in their plea that the high court has gravely erred in passing the impugned order, despite being aware of the fact that proceedings with regard to the title of the residents, including the petitioners, are pending before the district magistrate.

The petitioners have claimed that they possess documents that clearly establish their title and valid occupation.

  • Upgradation of Tirupati Railway Station to be completed by Feb, 2025

Upgradation of Tirupati Railway Station to be completed by Feb, 2025

    [ad_1]

Tirupati: The upgradation work of Tirupati Railway Station to cater the needs of the rail passengers for the next 40 years is proceeding at brisk pace and is scheduled to be completed in two years

The South Central Railway (SCR), which started the upgradation work in May 2022, said on Tuesday that the work is being monitored at all levels so as to ensure timely completion of the project. The work has been awarded under EPC mode and the entire project is targeted for completion by February, 2025.

A new station building is coming up on the South side of the existing station building. After completion of geological survey, setting-up of camp office, concrete lab and storage sheds, remaining works have continued to move in a fast manner.

The concreting of the foundations has been completed 100 per cent for the new upcoming station building. Till date, about 7,450 cubic meters of concrete has been used in foundations, columns of basement floor and retaining wall.

The SCR said in the next phase, work related to centering and shuttering of the concrete slab for the basement floor has commenced and is progressing briskly. As on date, almost 20 per cent of the work has already been completed. An underground water tank with a capacity to hold 29 litres of water is to come up as part of the new station building. For this, both excavation works for construction of underground tank as well as concreting of its foundations has also been completed.

Two new air concourses are planned to be constructed as part of the upgraded station to handle both incoming as well as outgoing passenger passengers. These air concourses will be of 35 meters width and will connect all the platforms of the station and also both sides (North as well as South) of the Station buildings.

Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR stated that the upgradation works of Tirupati station are being monitored regularly so that the work is not hampered and it is completed within the targeted time. He also stated that the works are taken up with utmost caution to ensure least inconvenience to the passengers and train movements in the station.

  • Telangana seeks funds in Union Budget for Railway projects

Telangana seeks funds in Union Budget for Railway projects

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to ensure adequate budgetary allocations to state railway projects in the Union Budget.

In a letter to the Union Minister, state Industries and Commerce Minister K.T. Rama Rao highlighted severe discrimination being meted out to Telangana in budget allocation to various Railway projects.

KTR, as the state minister is popularly known, stated that the Union government has been ignoring repeated pleas from the state government to sanction funds for several important ongoing and proposed projects in the state. “The discrimination in the railway sector is more blatant and visible and the state has been getting a raw deal in every budget presented by the NDA government,” he wrote.

He pointed out that the 13th Schedule of AP State Reorganisation Act clearly states that the Indian Railways shall, within six months from the appointed day, examine the feasibility of establishing a Rail Coach Factory in the successor State of Telangana and improve rail connectivity in the state and take an expeditious decision thereon.

However, despite repeated appeals from the State government, the Union government has neither initiated any measure to establish a Rail Coach Factory in Kazipet nor granted any new major infrastructure project to improve rail connectivity in the state.

KTR wrote that Telangana contributes substantially to the revenues of South Central Railway (both freight and passenger). “The state is a crucial link between North and South India and is home to the most important Railway junctions – Secunderabad & Kazipet – in our country. Being a landlocked state, Telangana is heavily dependent on Railway infrastructure for transportation of goods and passengers. Addition of new Railway infrastructure will be a big boost to the state’s growth story. But the Union government is found wanting when it comes to extending necessary assistance to develop new transport infrastructure in Telangana,” he said.

The minister said that it is appalling to note that in the past eight years, just a little over 100 km of railway track has been laid in Telangana. The state has a paltry 3 per cent of the total railway lines in the country out of which about 57 per cent are single lane. “This lack of critical infra is depriving Telangana of any new trains. It is disheartening to note that in the past eight years, South Central Railway has launched only one new train from the capital city – Lingampally-Vijayawada Intercity Express.”

KTR pointed out that the current NDA Government has not grounded a single new Railway line in Telangana in the past eight years. Even the progress of joint venture railway projects taken up with the state government is also painfully slow.

The Union Minister was told that while the Union government spent just Rs 1,100 crore on ongoing Railway projects in the state, the state government has spent Rs 1,904 crore as its share. Several projects, which were cleared by earlier governments were shelved by the current Union government. Many other projects for which survey reports are submitted long back have also not moved an inch.

KTR mentioned high priority project proposals submitted years ago to the Railway Board and demanded that they be sanctioned.

He said that earlier, the South Central Railways used to convene a meeting of all Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs from the region and accept proposals for new Railway projects and trains. Strangely, even that convention has been done away with this year, he added.

Farmers block railway tracks in Punjab, trains stranded

    [ad_1]

Amritsar: Members of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee on Sunday squatted on railway tracks in Punjab to demand a legal guarantee on MSP and withdrawal of cases registered against farmers during the farm laws stir, among other things.

The blockade from 1 pm to 4 pm disrupted the movement of trains on several routes including Amritsar-Delhi, Amritsar-Khemkaran and on the Jalandhar-Jammu rail section, according to official sources.

In Amritsar district, hundreds of agitating farmers led by Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC) leader Sarwan Singh Pandher squatted on the Amritsar-New Delhi railway track in Jandiala town, nearly 25 km from Amritsar.

Pandher said the farmers blocked railway tracks from 1 pm to 4 pm at 13 places in 11 districts of Punjab.

The protesters also blocked railway tracks on Amritsar-Delhi, Amritsar-Khemkaran, and Amritsar-Pathankot routes besides those in Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Moga, Muktsar, Mansa, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana districts.

In Hoshiarpur, the blockade was on the Jalandhar-Jammu rail section at the Tanda railway station.

According to the official sources, train no. 12920 Malwa Superfast Express and Superfast Jammu-Mumbai train were stranded at Dasuya and Bhangala railway stations respectively due to the rail blockade.

The protesters are also seeking stringent action against those who had allegedly attacked a group of farmers during the agitation against the now-repealed farm laws at Delhi’s Singhu border in January 2021.
