Remarks on RSS: Another defamation suit filed against Rahul Gandhi

    [ad_1]

After the conviction for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, now another defamation case has been filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Haridwar Court for his alleged comment referring to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the ‘Kauravas of the twenty-first century.’

Kamal Bhadauria, an RSS worker, filed a criminal defamation lawsuit. The matter will be heard by the Court on April 12.

“Kauravas of the 21st century wear Khakhi half-pants and run shakhas. Besides them stand two to three richest people of the country,” he allegedly said in his remarks.

The petition further alleged that Gandhi insulted ‘Pujaris’ in his speech and hurt the feelings of the people of the country.

Gandhi allegedly made these remarks at the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Haryana.

Disqualifying Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha part of conspiracy: Rajasthan CM

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday attacked the Narendra Modi government, saying the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha was part of a conspiracy that was hatched following the “massive success” of his Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Gandhi was disqualified as an MP following his conviction and two-year sentencing by a Surat Court last week in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his “Modi surname” remark.

The chief minister, while addressing Congress workers at a Sammelan, also alleged that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who hails from Kota, was under pressure and did not allow Gandhi to speak in Parliament.

    MS Education Academy

“Rising prices, unemployment, social disharmony and widening gap between the poor and the rich were the issues of the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra,” Gehlot said in Kota.

“Some people afraid by the personality of Rahul Gandhi that emerged out of the massive success of the Bharat Jodo Yatra hatched a conspiracy against him…,” he said on the issue of Gandhi’s disqualification.

The BJP will have to face the consequences of Rahul Gandhi’s expulsion from Parliament, Gehlot said in Jaipur while addressing a meeting of party workers.

The entire opposition is united on the issue of Gandhi’s disqualification and this unity is a good sign, the CM said at the meeting held in Sanganer.

The BJP has been attacking Gandhi, a former Congress chief, over his “democracy under attack” remarks in the UK and demanding he apologise, and has criticised him over his 2019 comment.

Before his disqualification, Gandhi was not allowed to speak in Parliament and he had also approached the Lok Sabha speaker, the chief minister said, adding that it was Birla’s duty to allow Gandhi to speak.

But the Congress leader was being forced to apologise and this meant that “Om Birla ji was working under pressure and if he had been aware of his position, and of dignity and glory of Rajasthan, his gesture should have been different”, Gehlot said.

Referring to Rajasthan assembly Speaker CP Joshi, the chief minister said he dealt with matters of members of both ruling and opposition parties with impartiality.

“Those who become speaker of a House no longer remains a member of a party,” Gehlot said and added that currently the post Birla holds, is not an ordinary post.

“Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who hails from Kota, should function impartially in Lok Sabha but he is not able to function impartially and is working under pressure,” the chief minister said.

The Congress succeeded in maintaining unity of such a grand nation like India, but the ways the Narendra Modi government and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have adopted is unfortunate for the country, Gehlot said and told party workers that their fight against them was ideological.

He said the Congress, which made several sacrifices during the country’s freedom struggle, does not need nationalism lessons from the BJP and the RSS.

“They (BJP and RSS) talk about India and nationalism will we learn nationalism from them? Those who got the country freedom will learn nationalism from them?” Gehlot said as he questioned the contribution of the BJP and the RSS in the country’s independence struggle.

Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Kolar postponed to April 9

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A public rally of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Kolar has now been postponed and is scheduled to be held on April 9.

Congress General Secretary (Organisation), K.C. Venugopal said, “@RahulGandhi will be in Kolar on April 9 and address the ‘Jai Bharat’ mega rally there. On April 11, he will visit Wayanad. He is the voice of the people, you can never silence him. This voice will only get louder and stronger.”

Gandhi, a former MP, was earlier scheduled to begin his campaign from Kolar for the Karnataka Assembly polls from April 5.

In 2019, Rahul during his Lok Sabha campaign had made a speech for which he was convicted in the Surat court in 2023.

Congress leaders say that beginning from Kolar is itself a manifestation that the party is ready to fight out the 2019 ‘Modi surname’ case politically and legally.

In Kolar, the Congress will attack the Karnataka government on the issue of corruption.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, Karnataka General Secretary In-charge, said the Congress will form the government in the state with the blessings of the people.

“As Karnataka goes to polls on May 10, Congress resolves to usher in a
new era of Peace-Progress-Prosperity and rebuild Brand Karnataka, restore Kannadiga pride, Congress guarantees to run a welfare-driven government at the Centre,” he added

The Election Commission on Wednesday announced the schedule for the Karnataka Assembly elections. The polling will be held on May 10 and the results will be declared on May 13.

The term of the 224-member Assembly ends on May 24.

Rahul Gandhi is a morally corrupt politician: Himanta Biswa Sarma

    [ad_1]

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is a “morally corrupt politician”, recalling his 2013 opposition to an amendment of a bill that would have allowed a convicted MP to remain a parliamentarian.

Sarma said the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had tried to bring the amendment, but Gandhi “denounced him publicly” and “tore” a copy of the ordinance.

“And now, Congress President Mallikarjun Khagde is demanding that convicted MP’s should not be disqualified,” he said.

“Rather than growing a spine, he is misguiding Kharge to protest against his own stand, which he had taken in 2013. I have not seen a politician in this country so morally corrupt like Rahul Gandhi,” Sarma told reporters on the sidelines of a programme here.

Gandhi should tell people of the country he stands for the cause that a convicted MP/MLA should be disqualified immediately, the chief miniser said.

The former Congress president was recently convicted by a Surat court in a defamation case and subsequently disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP.

Legal team working on Rahul Gandhi’s case: Mallikarjun Kharge

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said that a legal team is working on the case in which former INC chief Rahul Gandhi was convicted by a Gujarat court following which he was disqualified from the Lok Sabha.

Kharge said that the party is ready to face the matter “politically and legally”, and also criticised the Central government for disqualifying Rahul Gandhi “in haste”.

The Congress president termed the disqualification “vengeance”.

As a mark of protest against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha, and to press its demand for a probe into the allegations of fraud levelled against the Adani Group, the Congress has launched ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha’ across the country against the Centre .

The party has set up a war room to monitor the ‘Satyagraha’, which will culminate in Delhi with a rally.

Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal had said: “The ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha’ is a protest against the erroneous conviction and disqualification of Rahul Gandhi, and to express the party’s strong resolve to keep raising the voice of the people against the blatant loot of people’s money and nation’s wealth.”

As part of the programmes planned to be organised during the protest, all block/mandal units of the Congress will hold ‘nukkad sabhas’ and address the public on relevant issues.

Social media campaigns focusing on Rahul Gandhi’s message to the people will also be carried out to appeal for public support for the ‘Satyagraha’.

Hope Rahul will be convicted in my petition too: Sushil Modi

    [ad_1]

Patna: Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Thursday expressed hope that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will get “adequate punishment” by a court here which has “summoned” the latter next month in connection with a case lodged by the former.

In a video statement, Modi, now a Rajya Sabha member, disclosed that the MP/MLA court in Patna has asked Gandhi to appear in person on April 12 in connection with the petition lodged by the BJP leader following the then Congress president’s controversial speech at Karnataka in 2019.

“Gandhi has been summoned for recording of statement under Section 317 CrPC. I am confident that like the court in Surat, the court here will hold him guilty and award adequate punishment (adequate punishment)”, said Modi, who had filed his petition on April 18, 2019, five days after Gandhi made the impugned remarks at a rally in the thick of Lok Sabha polls.

Modi added “Gandhi and his party believe in dynasty politics and cannot bear the sight of an OBC, Narendra Modi, in the Prime Minister’s chair. They, therefore, routinely engage in slander. Only the judiciary can effectively check this tendency”.

  • If Rahul is disqualified, why not Modi for hurting women’s sentiment: TMC’s Abhishek

If Rahul is disqualified, why not Modi for hurting women’s sentiment: TMC’s Abhishek

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday said if Rahul Gandhi can be disqualified for his comments about a community, then why similar action cannot be taken against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hurting the sentiment of women by his taunts against Mamata Banerjee.

Addressing a rally at Shahid Minar Grounds here, the Trinamool Congress national general secretary asked the party’s legal cell to file a case against the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, seeking his disqualification from the House for allegedly insulting a woman minister from the tribal community.

Banerjee said he may not support Gandhi’s comment that led to his disqualification from the Lok Sabha following a court order, but he condemns the way it was done.

“Why will the PM not be disqualified for hurting the sentiment of women by mocking West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with his ‘Didi O Didi’ taunts during the 2021 assembly polls campaign? We demand that action be taken in that case too,” he said.

The Diamond Harbour MP, who is also the nephew of party supremo Mamata Banerjee, asked his party leaders to file a case against Suvendu Adhikari for hurting the sentiments of the Scheduled Tribe community in the state.

“Why will no action be taken against Adhikari for hurting the sentiment of the ST community for saying that minister Birbaha Hansda’s place was beneath his shoe? Does this not tantamount to insulting the STs? He, too, must be disqualified as an MLA,” he said.

Banerjee referred to a viral video clip in which Adhikari was purportedly heard last year telling a group of people, “(TMC MLA) Debnath Hansda and Birbaha Hansda are kids. Their place is beneath my shoe.”

PTI, however, could not verify the authenticity of the video clip. Birbaha Hansda had filed a police complaint against Adhikari.

Lashing out at the BJP-led Union government for allegedly misusing the central agencies, the TMC leader said efforts are underway to malign the ruling party in West Bengal.

“Today, we are here to protest against the Centre’s step-motherly attitude towards West Bengal. If the dues of the state are not cleared, I will stage a protest in New Delhi and fight for our rights. The Centre owes lakhs of crores of rupees to the state. You can’t scare me with the threat of ED and CBI. You can lodge as many as you want,” he added.

Banerjee has been questioned by the ED in connection with a coal smuggling case.

Referring to several corruption cases that have plagued the TMC government, Banerjee said if it is proved that some wrong has been committed, the law must take its own course.

“But this pick-and-choose politics must stop. If you are a BJP member, you are above the law, but if you are from the TMC, you will be harassed and arrested. The law should not be different for the BJP,” he said.

Banerjee said the TMC did not think twice before taking action against its senior Leader Partha Chatterjee when his alleged involvement in the teacher recruitment scam came out in the open last year.

“Don’t hesitate to call yourself a TMC leader; rather, feel proud about it. Because it is the TMC, which has taken action against its senior Leader Partha Chatterjee within a week,” he said.

Reacting to Banerjee’s accusations, BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh asked the TMC to move court if its any allegations against the saffron camp.

“The allegations against the BJP are baseless. There is nothing wrong in calling a thief by his or her name,” Ghosh said.

After Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification, EC in no hurry for Wayanad bypoll

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Wednesday announced the date for the by-election to fill vacancies in one Parliamentary constituency of Punjab and four Assembly constituencies in Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Meghalaya.

However, the poll panel said that it is in no hurry to announce bypoll to the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency after Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lower House.

As per the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Rajeev Kumar, bypoll on the selected seats will be held on May 10 and the results will come out on May 13.

May 10 will also witness the Assembly polls in the southern State of Karnataka.

However, the poll panel did not announce the bypoll schedule for Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency after Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lower House.

The CEC on Wednesday said that the Election Commission is in no hurry to announce bypoll to Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has 30 days to exercise judicial remedy in the 2019 defamation case. The CEC said the trial court in Surat has given Rahul Gandhi 30 days to seek a judicial remedy. “There is no hurry, we will wait,” he added.

The CEC said the vacancy in the Wayanad parliamentary party was notified on March 23 this year and as per the law, a bypoll has to be conducted within six months.

Referring to rules, he said that if the remainder of the term was less than one year, then the election will not be held. In the case of Wayanad, the remainder of the term is more than a year.

By-elections in Jalandhar parliamentary constituency in Punjab and Assembly constituencies of Jharsuguda (Odisha), Chhanbey and Suar (Uttar Pradesh) and Sohiong (Meghalaya) will be held on May 10.

The notification for the bypoll will be issued on April 13. While submission of nominations for the bypoll will continue till April 20, scrutiny of the same will be held on April 21. Nominations for the by-election can be withdrawn till April 24.

Why is public’s retirement money being invested in Adani?: Rahul Gandhi to Centre

    [ad_1]

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking why the public’s retirement money is being invested in Adani companies even after various allegations were levelled against the firm.

Disqualified as Lok Sabha MP on Friday after he was convicted and sentenced to a two-year jail term in a defamation case by a Surat court, the Congress chief took to Twitter stating, “LIC’s capital, to Adani! SBI’s capital, to Adani! EPFO’s capital too, to Adani! Why is public’s retirement money being invested in Adani’s companies even after ‘Modani’ exposed?”

“Mr Prime Minister, no investigation, no answer! Why so much of fear,” he asked in a tweet in Hindi.

Controversy erupted after Adani Group stocks crashed after US-based short seller Hindenburg Research made allegations, including fraudulent transactions and share-price manipulation against it.

However, the Gautam Adani-led group has dismissed the charges as lies, saying it complies with all laws and disclosure requirements.

Meanwhile, according to a recent report, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has continued to invest in two Adani stocks despite the rout following the entire Hindenburg saga.

“EPFO continues to invest in Adani Ports and Adani Enterprises, and will keep doing so till September at least unless the organisation reworks its investment approach in this week’s meeting,” The Hindu reported.

After the Adani group lost over 100 billion dollars in valuation post scathing allegations by US-based Hindenburg Research, state-run LIC was criticised for having over 4 billion dollars in exposure to companies from the group, as per Reuters.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the State Bank of India (SBI) has given loans of Rs 21,000 crore (2.6 billion dollars) to Adani firms.

Taking a jibe at the BJP-led Centre, Rahul Gandhi has been demanding an investigation into the matter.

He further alleged that his disqualification from the Lok Sabha recently was due to him raising questions on the Adani issue.

“I will continue to do so even if he is disqualified from Parliament for life,” asserted Rahul.
