Two Moosewala murder accused in killed in Punjab jail clash

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: Two gangsters, involved in the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, succumbed to injuries following in a major clash of gangsters in Goindwal jail in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Sunday, officials said.

The deceased were identified as Mandeep Singh, alias Toofan, and Mohan Singh, alias Manmohan Singh. A third jail inmate, Keshav, was also critically wounded in the clash. He was admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar.

All three of them have been accused in the Moosewala murder killing.

Toofan was arrested by the anti-gangster task force in September last year. He was also wanted in the killing of another notorious gangster, Ranbir Singh, in a hospital in Amritsar.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29, 2022.

The clash in jail comes two days after self-styled globe-trotting Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh, who just came to the limelight after returning from Dubai, when his supporters, carrying swords and arms, clashed with the police and forcefully laid a siege on a police station in Ajnala, which led to a scuffle and injuries to several police personnel in Amritsar district.

Man who chopped off a person’s fingers in Punjab gets call from Masterchef for his Culinary skills

    [ad_1]

On Thursday, a Mohali man’s fingers were chopped off in broad daylight while Punjab Police remained clueless. Reportedly, 3 people were seen in a video cutting off the fingers of a man allegedly over the suspicion that he was linked to the murder of their friend.

The video of the person chopping the fingers went viral on social media and soon reached on WhatsApp. While some called it a gruesome act, some talked about absolutely lawlessness in Punjab under AAP govt, a few appreciated man’s culinary skills while he chopped the fingers with a sword.

The Fauxy sources suggest that the man who chopped off the fingers is likely to be called by Master Chef, a competitive cooking reality show, for his culinary skills.

Punjab Police is going to release him even if they manage to find and arrest him, so we have decided to give him a chance so that he can use his skills in something constructive. Our sources have suggested that he used to chop vegetables for Langar before, so he has the relevant experience too” told a master chef employee to The Fauxy

Centre closely monitoring Punjab after Amritpal’s aide released from jail

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Centre is “closely monitoring” the situation in Punjab after supporters of preacher and Khalistani sympathiser Amritpal Singh stormed a police station to secure the release of an aide, officials said on Friday.

The protesters armed with rifles and swords broke into Ajnala police station in the outskirts of Amritsar city and virtually forced a commitment from the officials of withdrawing kidnapping case filed against Lovepreet Singh ‘Toofan’.

Union Home Ministry officials said the Punjab government had already been asked to keep a close watch on Singh’s activity.

They said “the Centre was closely monitoring the situation in Punjab” as it is a sensitive border state and any incident which is violation of law and has wider ramifications is a matter of concern.

However, it is not immediately known whether the central government has sought a report from the Punjab government on the incident and the prevailing situation in the state.

On Thursday, Amritpal Singh’s supporters, some of them brandishing swords and guns, broke through barricades and barged into a police station in Ajnala extracting an assurance from the police that kidnapping case accused Lovepreet Singh will be released.

‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh and his supporters also brought a vehicle carrying a copy of the Guru Granth Sahib for holding “amrit sanchar” (a Sikh ceremony) at the police station.

Following the incident, Amritpal Singh’s aide and kidnapping accused Lovepreet Singh ‘Toofan’ walked out of jail in Ajnala on Friday.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the demonstrators had used the holy Guru Granth Sahib as a shield and attacked police personnel in a cowardly manner, leaving six of them injured.

Despite giving an assurance of a peaceful demonstration, the protesters used sharp-edged weapons.

Punjab Speaker calls meeting on ‘exorbitant rates of medicines’

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan on Sunday said a meeting to discuss the public interest issue of selling medicines at “exorbitant rates”, which is leading to “public loot”, will be held on Tuesday.

It would be attended by Cabinet ministers, MLAs, health experts and representatives of various NGOs.

  • We will make schools in Delhi, Punjab best in the world: Kejriwal

We will make schools in Delhi, Punjab best in the world: Kejriwal

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Saturday said education is “a priority” for the AAP-led dispensations and work will be done to make government schools in both Delhi and Punjab the “best in the world”.

AAP is the ruling party in Delhi and Punjab.

Kejriwal was addressing a gathering of principals at an event here in the presence of his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann.

Mann said that teachers in Punjab will not be engaged in anything other than teaching.

In his address, Kejriwal said, “Improving and fixing education system in Delhi since we took charge here was very difficult.”

Infrastructure was given a push earlier and then the AAP government focused on training teachers and principals, the party supremo said.

Until teachers and principals are motivated, the impact will not be visible, he said.

“If government wants, they can give best schools and education, but intentions and priorities matter. And, education is our priority. We took seven years in Delhi, but it will take less time in Punjab,” he said.

“We will make government schools in Delhi and Punjab the best in the world,” Kejriwal said.

Punjab will also experiment and Delhi will learn from it, the AAP chief said.

A group of principals from Punjab government schools who underwent professional training in Singapore from February 6 to 10, shared their experiences during the event.

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains was present on the occasion.

At the event, Manish Sisodia, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister who also holds the education portfolio, said this is perhaps the first time that chief ministers and education ministers of both Punjab and Delhi have come together along with principals from both sides to have such a feedback session.

Punjab Chief Minister Mann on February 4 had flagged off the first batch of 36 state government school principals to participate in a professional teacher training seminar in Singapore.

With naming anyone, Mann said there are leaders who have never appeared in any examination but give advice on exams.

Juvenile arrested in Punjab for possessing 15 kg heroin

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: In a major breakthrough against trans-border smuggling, Punjab Police have arrested a juvenile after recovering 15 kg heroin, and Rs 8.40 lakh drug money from his possession, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said here on Thursday.

The 17-year-old arrested drug smuggler is a resident of Amritsar. Apart from recovering heroin and drug money, the police have also recovered a motorcycle, on which he was travelling.

The development came about 10 days after the police busted a trans-border drug smuggling cartel with the arrest of a drug smuggler. Five packets of heroin, weighing 5 kg, and Rs 12.15 lakh drug money, were recovered from his possession during a special checking at Thattha village in Lopoke in Amritsar.

DGP Yadav said following inputs, teams of the Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar arrested the juvenile, who, along with his accomplice, identified as Resham Singh of Khasa village in Amritsar, was going to deliver the drug consignment after retrieving it from the area of Kakkar village.

Preliminary investigations revealed the consignment of drugs was airdropped by Pakistan-based smugglers using a drone, he said.

Resham Singh, who prima facie seems to be the mastermind of the trans-border narcotics smuggling racket, managed to flee from the spot. Police teams are on a manhunt to nab him, he added.

AIG, CI, Amarjit Singh Bajwa said father and grandfather of the arrested juvenile are already undergoing imprisonment under the NDPS act.

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: A 40-year-old Kashmiri businessman, who was abducted by his two business partners from Delhi’s Kashmiri Gate area, was rescued from Punjab, an official said on Saturday.

After six hours, Delhi Police along with its counterpart Punjab Police managed to rescue the victim and nabbed the kidnappers from Phagwara in Punjab.

The accused have been identified as Nishar Ahmad (48) and Imtiyaz Ahmad (48) –both residents of village Pahroo Navgav, district Budgam in Jammu and Kashmir.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (north), Sagar Singh Kalsi, said that on Friday, a Police Control Room (PCR) call was received at Kashmiri Gate police station regarding the kidnapping of a man from the area.

“The call was received from a Kashmir-based number and on initial enquiry, it was revealed that two Kashmiris have abducted one man from Hare Rama Travels in the area. The CCTV footage near the travel agency was analysed and it was revealed that the accused abducted Sayad Tarikh in a taxi,” said the DCP.

“A case under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code was registered and after scanning CCTV footages, it was found that the taxi- swift dzire — is going towards Kashmir through G.T. Karnal Road. The police teams tasked with investigation immediately chased and a W.T. message was also flashed subsequently to police of Haryana and Punjab,” said the DCP.

  • ‘Punjab completely ignored in the Union Budget,’ says Bhagwant Mann

‘Punjab completely ignored in the Union Budget,’ says Bhagwant Mann

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: Ruling Aam Aadmi Party, opposition Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal on Wednesday slammed the Union Budget, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and State Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema saying the state has been completely ignored in it.

Mann said that first, on Republic Day, the state’s tableau “was kept out of the parade,” now Punjab has been “completely ignored” in the Union Budget, as he criticised the Centre for presenting a budget that was “anti-Punjab, anti-people, anti-farmers and directionless.”

“Don’t understand what revenge they are taking from Punjabis,” he said.

Cheema also said, “I think Punjab has been completely ignored in this budget.”

Punjab’s farmers and youths have been left disappointed and there is nothing in the budget for the common masses, Cheema told reporters here.

Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring dubbed the budget “anti-poor” and “anti-people” while Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal said it had failed farmers, ruralites, poor, and the youth.

Mann said the Centre in its budget shortchanged the sacrifices made by hardworking people of the state.

“It is shameful that going by its myopic mindset the Union government has completely ignored the state thereby bringing a huge disrespect to countless sacrifices made by the brave and hardworking Punjabis in pre- and post-independent era,” an official statement quoted Mann as saying.

He said that all “genuine demands of Punjab have been blatantly ignored and state figures nowhere in the Union budget.”

He said that being a border state, they had demanded Rs 1,000 crore for the modernisation of the BSF and state Police from Centre, which, he said, was necessary to combat the smuggling of drugs and weapons from across the border especially through the hi-tech drones.

The Union government, instead, gave the cold shoulder to this demand, he said.

He said that during the pre-budget meetings the state had flagged the need to start Vande Bharat trains from Amritsar and Bathinda to Delhi, but this demand too was completely ignored, along with another demand of connecting all five ‘Takhts’ of the Sikhs through rail route.

Mann alleged that the budget has exposed the “anti-farmers stance of the Modi government” and added the government has run away from giving remunerative MSP on crops to farmers which, he said, was very unfortunate.

The Chief Minister said that his government had been pursuing the Centre to extend Rs 1,500 crore financial assistance for the farmers, but that too failed to materialise.

He said that though the Scheduled Tribes have been offered various facilities in budgets, the Scheduled Castes and Backward classes “have been completely ignored.”

He cautioned the Union government “to stop playing with fire by ignoring the state on key issues.”

“India cannot be imagined without Punjab and the BJP-led Union government’s attempt to ignore the contribution of Punjab and Punjabis will not be tolerated,” he said, as he called Punjab the grain bowl of the country.

Warring said the budget has actually turned out to be a “classic jumla” of the BJP government at the Centre.

He also alleged it was “an anti-poor and anti-people budget with key focus on increasing income of corporations only.”

Senior Congress leader and Punjab’s Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa said there is nothing in the budget for the farmers and also “no legal guarantee for the MSP as expected by the farmers all across India.”

SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said farmers were promised that their agriculture income would be doubled, “but far from doing anything to realise this goal, the government has not been able to ensure procurement of all food grains on minimum support price.”

Speaking about the government thrust on millets, Badal said this would succeed only if all millet crops were procured as per remunerative MSP.
