Pulwama martyrs’ widows on hunger strike write to Raj Guv seeking euthanasia

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: The deadlock between the Rajasthan government and four widows of Pulwama martyrs turned murkier on Wednesday with one of them, Manju Jat, writing to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot alleging that the police beat her up, stripped her clothes and even pricked her with a pin.

Manju, the wife of Pulwama martyr Rohitash Lamba, alleged that the police threw her as if she was a gunny bag when she was going to meet the Chief Minister.

“Unable to bear the torurtue by the police, I am on an infinite hunger strike since March 4 and the Chief Minister will be responsible if something happens to me,” she said.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra has also written to Gehlot, asking him to look into the matter. Mishra said that the four war widows have sent a letter to him seeking permission for euthanasia, as he urged the Chief Minister to ensure that the right action is taken.

Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has shared a video of CRPF jawan Rohitash Lamba’s widow Manju, saying that Gehlot should stop this ‘dictator-like’ behaviour.

Referring to Manju’s allegations of police brutality, Shekhawat said that instead of taking the necessary action, the Chief Minister is issuing statements on Twitter to blame her.

“The government should break the fast of the widows of Pulwama martyrs. Gehlot ji, this dictatorship will not work,” Shekhawat said.

Meanwhile, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Kirodi Lal Meena, who is also protesting with the widows, said, “On Tuesday, two ministers — Pratap Singh Khachariawas and Shankuntala Rawat — came to meet the protesting women.

Both listened to their demands and assured to solve the issue. It was expected that there would be an announcement from the state government on Wednesday accepting their demands, but nothing happened.

Instead, the Chief Minister is raising questions over the demands of these widows despite two of his own ministers assuring to solve the matter.”

  • BJP leaders using Pulwama widows to gain political mileage, says Rajasthan CM

BJP leaders using Pulwama widows to gain political mileage, says Rajasthan CM

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday targeted the BJP, saying some of its leaders were disrespecting the widows of martyrs and using them to gain political mileage.

This comes a day after relatives of three CRPF personnel killed in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack reached Congress leader Sachin Pilot’s residence and demanded a meeting with the party high command, accusing the state government of not fulfilling promises made to them.

Without directly naming BJP Rajya Sabha MP Kirodi Lal Meena, who has been sitting on a ‘dharna’ with the widows of the martyrs, Gehlot said in a statement, “Some BJP leaders are disrespecting the wives of the martyrs by using them to gain political mileage. This has never been the tradition of Rajasthan. I condemn it.”/

The widows’ demands include installing statues of the slain jawans, giving jobs to their relatives on compassionate grounds and construction of roads in their villages.

In his statement, Gehlot said the widow of Hemraj Meena, who was martyred in the attack, wants a third statue to be installed despite two others already put up at the Government College, Sangod, and a park in Vinod Kalan, his native village.
“Such a demand is not appropriate keeping in view other martyr families,” the chief minister said in the statement in Hindi.

The wife of Rohitash Lamba is seeking a job for her brother-in-law on compassionate grounds but if the job is given to him, then the family members or relatives of all widows of martyrs might start putting undue pressure on them.

“Should we create such a difficult situation in front of the wives of martyrs because the rules made at present have been made on the basis of past experiences. How can it be justified to deny the rights of the children of martyrs and give jobs to other relatives? What will happen to the children of martyrs when they become adults,” he asked.

Gehlot said during his first tenure as chief minister in 1999, the Rajasthan government released the Kargil package for dependents of martyrs and it has been made more effective by increasing it from time to time.

He said the Rajasthan government has made a provision that if the wife of a soldier is pregnant at the time of his martyrdom and does not want a job, it will be kept reserved for the child so that their future can be secured.

Help has been given to the Pulwama martyrs’ dependents as per the rules of this package, Gehlot said.

“Rajasthan is the land of heroes and thousands of soldiers from the state have sacrificed their lives for the motherland. The people and the government here respect the martyrs the most,” Gehlot added.

He said he shared his thoughts on the issue with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, a minister in the Gehlot government, met the martyrs’ widows protesting outside Pilot’s residence and said it is the government’s responsibility to respect them.

The pilot had on Monday written to Gehlot, demanding an inquiry into the alleged police misbehaviour with the widows.

He also requested him to sympathetically consider their demands.

  • JK HC Directs DC Pulwama To Swear In Waheed Parra As DDC Member

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has instructed the Pulwama deputy commissioner to administer the oath of office to Waheed ur Rehman Parra, a youth leader from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as a district development council (DDC) member, provided that there are no legal restrictions under the Panchayati Raj Act.

Parra had been elected as a DDC member in December 2020, but he could not take the oath of office due to his arrest in two cases related to militants. However, he is presently out on bail in both cases and has approached the high court to be sworn in. The court has ordered the deputy commissioner to carry out the statutory duty of administering the oath of office to Parra, notwithstanding the ongoing writ petition. The court has also noted that Parra’s legal troubles do not affect his entitlement to join the office as an elected member of the DDC, Pulwama. Parra was arrested in January 2021 for alleged offences under various acts, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.

Consequently, Parra was unable to present himself voluntarily to the deputy commissioner of Pulwama to take his oath as an elected DDC member. Parra had been granted bail by the special NIA court on January 9, 2022, but was not released as he was subsequently booked in another case under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Indian Penal Code at the Counter-Intelligence Kashmir police station in Srinagar. However, he was granted bail again on May 25, 2022, after filing an appeal before the division bench of the high court.

Widows of 3 jawans killed in 2019 Pulwama attack seek permission to end own lives

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Widows of three CRPF personnel killed in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack accused the Rajasthan government of not fulfilling its promises made to them and sought permission from Governor Kalraj Mishra to end their own lives, the BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Kirodi Lal Meena said on Saturday.

Meena has been sitting on a dharna here with the family members of the martyrs for the last few days.

He along with the wives of the CRPF personnel killed in the Pulwama attack went to Raj Bhawan to hand over a representation to the governor. After coming out from Raj Bhawant, they started moving towards the chief minister’s residence and were stopped by the police.

Meena alleged that police personnel pushed the women in which Manju Jat, the widow of Rohitashav Lamba got injured and was admitted to the hospital.

The BJP leader said that instead of fulfilling the demands of the families of the martyrs, the state government was taking recourse to “dictatorship”. “The police misbehaved with them even when they were protesting at the assembly gate recently,” he alleged.

Meena and the family members of the Pulwama terror attack martyrs handed over the representation in Raj Bhawan in which Manju Jat, Madhubala, Sundari Devi and Renu Singh sought permission for euthanasia.

Meena is sitting at dharna at Shaheed Smarak with the family members of the martyrs.

  • FIR Against MC Chairman Pulwama for ‘Misbehaving’ With Doctor

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: A case has been registered against Municipal Councillor Chairman Pulwama over his alleged misbehaviour with a doctor at District Hospital Pulwama earlier this week.

A doctor at District Hospital Pulwama said that the police registered a First Investigation Report (FIR) against Municipal Council Chairman Bilal Ahmad Rather over ‘misbehaving’ with a doctor at District Hospital (Pulwama) on February 27, during evening hours.

“On February 27, 2023 at around 6.30 pm, a man namely Bilal Ahmad Rather, who is chairman of Municipal Council, barged in the duty room of a doctor who was on duty in the emergency department of the hospital. As soon as the person entered the hospital, the person started shouting and barged into the duty room of a doctor. He made a huge hue and cry and misbehaved with the doctor”, the doctor reading out the FIR copy said.

“There were many sick patients in the hospital at the time when the person made his entry into the hospital and the person shouted & hurled abuse at the doctor and was in a very aggressive mood. He was about to assault the doctor and wouldn’t have managed to stay away from this person. Meanwhile he obstructed the doctor who was discharging his duties towards his patients and made ruckus in the casualty department and was asking for a lock and key to lock the hospital, as seen in the video footage which created disruption in the patient care and could have caused death or serious complications to the critical patients admitted in the hospital”, the doctor added.

The doctor said, the police were requested to take cognizance of this episode in light of the video footage which has gone viral on social media, so that such ugly incidents don’t happen which will affect the safety of doctors besides working in hospitals and patient care.

Taking cognizance of the incident, the police accordingly registered an FIR under sections 353/506 IPC in police station Pulwama against the accused”, the doctor further said. (GNS)

  • DAK condemns Pulwama Councilor’s Alleged Misbehavior with Doctor

    [ad_1]

Srinagar, Mar 1 (GNS): Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Wednesday condemned in strongest words the ‘misbehaviour of Pulwama councilor with a doctor’.

The councilor is alleged to have used demeaning, abusive and unparliamentary language with the doctor while he was discharging his duties.

“Such behavior is simply unacceptable,” said DAK President Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan in a statement issued to GNS.

Dr Hassan said on Monday evening, the councilor entered into district hospital Pulwama and threatened and abused the doctor on duty which resulted in disruption of medical services.

“Such acts of intimidation against medical staff that provide help to sick and wounded is shocking,” he said.

The DAK President said medical personnel put in their blood and sweat to save lives in extremely difficult conditions and instead of appreciation get abuses.

“The act of hooliganism from a public representative has generated fear and anxiety among health care workers,” he said.

Dr Nisar said under such circumstances doctors cannot deliver their services efficiently which adversely affects patient care.

“It is difficult for doctors to work under such hostile conditions,” he said adding “such atrocious attitude towards doctors has forced many to migrate and this is the main reason for brain drain.”

General Secretary DAK Dr Arshad Ali said such maltreatment with a doctor on duty will not only set a bad precedent but will also demoralize the medical staff who are discharging their duties in toughest circumstances.

“There has to be an end to this mad pattern of atrocities against medical staff which has become a routine,” he added. (GNS)

  • Almond industry on the verge of decline in Pulwama

    [ad_1]

Pulwama March 1: In South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, where apples and other fruits are cultivated on a large scale, there are thousands of canals in the district where only almonds are cultivated.

The people of these areas are associated with almond cultivation for centuries. But due to the lack of attention to the horticulture department, almond cultivation is on the verge of decline.

Locals from the district said that nobody from the authority is willing to accept the contribution of this industry as a result the almond industry is vanishing from the map of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Wild animals have created havoc, damaged all these almond trees, but nobody cares and comes forward,” said a local from Trichal village of district of Pulwama.

Instead of focusing on this industry, different types of plants are introduced.

The local residents from Newa Parigam, Zaddora, Rehmoo said that wild animals have completely damaged their almond trees. “This land is good for almond cultivation and a little bit of attention from the government can flourish this industry,” said Abdul Gagar.

The locals accused the horticulture department of negligence saying not a single officer visited these villages where the almond industry can flourish. [KNT]

  • 2 Militants, Soldier Killed In Pulwama Gunfight: Police

    [ad_1]

Says One Among Them Was Behind Kashmiri Pandit Member’s Killing

Srinagar, Feb 28 (GNS): Police on Tuesday said that two militants and an army soldier were killed in a gunfight in Padgampora area Awantipora of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Among them, a police spokesperson said that was involved in the killing of Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Kumar Nath in Pulwama on weekend.

Additional Director General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that based on specific information about the presence of militants, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by police, CRPF and Army.

He said that as soon as police and security forces reached the target area, the hiding militants opened indiscriminate fire, leading to an encounter.

He said that one militant had taken refuge in a mosque and he was tactfully neutralised without any damage to the mosque.

“Extreme caution and limited firepower was used in view of the sacred precincts. Civilians praying inside were also evacuated on time preventing any collateral damage,” he said, adding, “Resuming the search for the second militant who was holed up inside a bathroom of an adjacent building, again caution was exercised and 14 civilians were rescued from the place before he was neutralized”.

The killed militants, he said, have been identified as Aqib Mushtaq Bhat of Malangpora, Pulwama (A Category) associated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and for past few months working with LeT (TRF) and Aijaz Ahmad Bhat of Syedabad Pastuna Tral (C-Category) associated with JeM and also working in coordination with HM and LeT.

Aqib, he said, was active since January 2021 and Aijaz was active since May 2022, the officer said.

He said that police have been successful in neutralizing the killer of Sanjay Kumar within a short period of time.

“We have also lost a brave soldier during the gunfight,” the officer added.

Army in a statement to GNS identified the killed soldier as Sepoy Pawan Kumar and the injured one as Naik Hemraj. Soon after getting injured, the army said, they were immediately evacuated to 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar where Sepoy Pawan Kumar succumbed to his injuries. The soldier is survived by his mother, Smt Bhajun Dassi, it said. His mortal remains will be moved for the last rites to his native place at Village Pithyt Rampur in District Shimla, Himachal Pradesh and will be laid to rest with full military honours, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the ADGP said 1 AK-47 rifle, 1AKS-74u rifle, 1 pistol, 2 grenades, 2 pouches, 5 AK magazines, 2 pistol magazines and 2 AADHAAR cards were recovered from militant duo.

Investigation so far revealed that both the militants, although joined through different militant organisations, had come together to conspire and attack minorities, outsiders, other vulnerable targets and security forces, the officer said.

They were involved in FIR No. 14/2023 PS Litter (recent killing of Kashmir Pandit Sanjay Pandita at Achan), FIR No 82/2022 PS Pulwama (attack of 2 outsider labourers at Lajoora), FIR no 115/2022 PS Tral (weapon snatching attempt), FIR No 76/2022 PS Tral (OGW module which supported them for grenade lobbing) among many other cases, the officer added.(GNS)
