HC asks IAF to consider publication of book written by retired airman after deleting classified content

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court asked the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Directorate of Intelligence on Monday to consider whether a book written by a retired air force officer can be published after certain “classified” content is removed from it.

Hearing the retired airman’s plea for permission to publish the book, Justice Prathiba M Singh directed that a meeting between the petitioner and the officials concerned be held within a month and sought a report on it.

The respondent authorities said the clearance for the book’s publication cannot be given as its content is not conducive to the interests of the IAF.

It was said that in accordance with the IAF’s regulations, classified material cannot be discussed and the book contains certain information that has not been “declassified”.

The court was told that the objectionable content included information about certain “counter-intelligence operations”.

The petitioner said he was willing to amend or delete the objectionable portion.

“Let the petitioner be heard by officials of the Indian Air Force and the Directorate of Intelligence in order to explore the possibility of whether the book can be published after the content is amended or deleted,” the court ordered.

The petitioner, a former group captain, told the court that he decided to write the book on his experiences and according to a reply to a query filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, there are no guidelines in place in respect of a retired air force official writing fictional books.

The court also asked the authorities to file their response.

The matter would again be heard by the court on October 20.

BJP’s Hindutva seeks to engineer riots between Hindus & Muslims: Sena (UBT) publication

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: In a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party over the issue of Hindutva, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) on Wednesday said the BJP’s version of the ideology seeks to “engineer” riots between Hindus and Muslims, and then reap political benefits out of them.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led outfit maintained its former ally has found love for the Muslim community ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

In an editorial in its mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, the Shiv Sena (UBT) said the national saffron party reaches out to the minority community by wearing the “veil of secularism” when elections are around the corner.

The Marathi daily alleged the Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) works as ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams of the BJP.

“The 2024 (Lok Sabha) polls are around the corner which is why the BJP has found love for the Muslim community. Will his love last for a year till the elections or will it stop after that? Their Hindutva is to engineer riots between Hindus and Muslims, and then reap political benefits out of them,” said the editorial.

Hindu-Muslim polarisation is their traditional modus operandi and reaping political benefits out of it is the BJP’s “real face”, the Opposition party alleged.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) publication dubbed the BJP as “hypocrite”.

The Opposition party’s attack on the BJP comes days after Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, a key ally of the national party, visited Ayodhya along with his party MLAs and leaders.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, a senior BJP leader, had accompanied Shinde during the Sunday visit to the temple town in Uttar Pradesh.

Govt scheme to check publication of fake product & services reviews

New Delhi: The government has formulated a conformity assessment scheme on IS 19000:2022, which is aimed at certifying the processes related to collection, moderation and publication of online customer reviews, to prevent publication of fake or misleading reviews, secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs Rohit Kumar Singh said on Wednesday.

The scheme lays down the criteria and responsibilities of the organisation and ancillary requirements for grant and operation of certification requirements for processes related to collection, moderation and publication of online customer reviews, and charges relating to certification of said process.

This scheme will ensure authenticity and reliability of consumer reviews published online, and will help consumers make informed decisions.

This is a major step towards ensuring consumer protection and promoting fair trade practices in the e-commerce industry, Singh said.

The rapid growth of consumer reviews for a wide range of products like clothes, electrical appliances, toys, cars, etc and also services like restaurants, hotels, travel and logistics, real estate and lawyers, etc., have the potential to empower consumers and drive industry growth, by creating a more transparent and dynamic way to exchange information, he added further.
