Telangana proves communal violence can be averted despite religious processions: Report

Hyderabad: A recent report on communal violence in 13 states during Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanthi in 2022 said that Telangana proved that it is possible to take out religious processions while also maintaining peace and harmony.

The report Routes of Wrath is written by the Citizens and Lawyers Initiative. Former Supreme Court judge Rohinton Nariman, in the foreword, praised the Telangana police force as well as Telangana High Court for ensuring peace and harmony existed between Hindu and Muslim communities during the Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti festivities.

The report examined how “…in state after state, including some under non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), outwardly secular chief ministers, the routes permitted for Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti processions, and of course their timings and the freedom to halt in front of major mosques, led invariably to rioting”.

Stating that the appalling loss caused by marauding mobs was followed by the brutal destruction of homes and shops by tyrannical administrations, the report said that the violence was neither inevitable nor unavoidable.

The report said that “elementary precautions taken by the state administration and the police authorities in Telangana, which were strongly endorsed and backed up by Justice Lalitha Kanneganti, resulted in absolute peace and harmony even though huge Ram Navami processions were taken through Hyderabad and Bhainsa”.

Analysing the strict limits imposed by different police commissioners on Ram Navami Shobha Yatras held on April 10, 2022 in different parts of the state, the report speculated that the orders must have come from either the chief minister or the home minister.

“The takeaway from Telangana’s handling of these religious processions is that where the administration and the courts wish to prevent communal clashes and riots even while allowing religious processions, they can,” said the report.

Justice Lalitha Kanneganti balanced the constitutional right of Hindus to take out a religious procession, with the need to maintain peace and harmony in a secular nation, and allowed the procession while making it subject to stringent conditions, added the report.

Rahul’s conviction proves law, Constitution above all: UP Dy CM

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Friday welcomed the two-year imprisonment awarded to senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying the “crown prince” has still not come out of his monarchical mindset.

Speaking to reporters at the state BJP office, Maurya said, “Despite being sentenced by the court, the way in which the leaders of the Congress are justifying it (Gandhi’s comment) drops enough hints about their intentions and what they think about the OBC community. The Congress ‘yuvraj’ has still not come out of his monarchical mindset.”

Gandhi was on Thursday sentenced to two years in jail by a Surat court in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his “Modi surname” remark. On Friday, the Lok Sabha Secretariat disqualified him as MP from Wayanad in Kerala.

Welcoming the ruling of the Surat court, the deputy chief minister said it has applied a balm on the bruises of the backward castes.

“From the time Narendra Modi, who hails from the OBC community, became the prime minister, the Congress party, especially the Gandhi family, has been after him. The Congress and the Gandhi family are anti-OBC.. By using casteist words, they have insulted Modiji, the messiah of the poor, and the more than 55 per cent backward castes of the country,” he said.

The court’s order shows that law of the country and the Constitution are above all, and all the citizens are equal before it, Maurya added.

“Has Rahul Gandhi become bigger than the country and the Constitution that he has the right to abuse us? The way in which Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other Congress leaders are trying to justify, it shows that they consider insulting OBCs their moral duty,” he said, sharpening his attack.

  • BJP’s win in Teachers’ MLC proves anti-incumbency against BRS: Bandi

BJP’s win in Teachers’ MLC proves anti-incumbency against BRS: Bandi

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Bandi Sanjay on Friday said that BJP winning the MLC seat in the Teachers’ constituency has proven strong sentiment of anti-incumbency against the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

He added that polling for Mahbubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad teacher’s constituency has set the mood for Assembly elections.

While speaking to the media persons, Sanjay said, “This is the first time in the history of Telangana that the BJP won the MLC seat in the Teachers’ constituency.

This election proves strong anti-incumbency against the BRS, especially among government employees and the educated sections. This election has set the mood for the Assembly elections in November.”

The polling for the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Teachers Constituency was held on March 13, with about 29,720 voters enrolled spread over nine districts in the constituency.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-backed candidate AVN Reddy won the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Teachers’ Member of Legislative Council (MLC) seat in Telangana.

After 21 rounds of counting, AVN Reddy secured 13,436 votes, crossing the required quota of 12,709 votes to emerge victorious.
