Telangana: BRS burns Modi’s effigy protesting BJP’s march, 11 detained

Hyderabad: Tensions prevailed at the Kakatiya University as Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) protested at the varsity gate ahead of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Nirudyoga March’ on Saturday.

Effigy of prime minister Narendra Modi was allegedly burned by the BRS party members. In a video shared on Twitter, some people, identified as associated with the BRS were seen trying to shred the posters of BJP while the security personnel were seen pulling them away.

To bring the situation under control, Kakatiya University police took 11 persons into preventive custody and sent them to Dharmasagar Police Station.

Upon suspicion that Hanamkonda police commissionerate would be encircled by the BJP party workers, the police have reportedly tightened the security.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s Telangana unit chief Bandi Sanjay will hold a protest march against “unemployment” in the state on Saturday, the party said.

BJP Spokesperson NV Subhash told ANI, that the march is scheduled to start from Kakatiya University to Ambedkar Statue and will be joined by people from different walks of life.

Subash alleged that Telangana State Public Service Commission papers had been leaked by the people who are close to state minister KT Rama Rao and the chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, claiming that 30 lakh job aspirants are waiting to get a job in the state.

“Their dreams have been shattered. We have approached the court and demanded immediate action to be taken against Rao. A sitting high court judge should be appointed to investigate the scam. Students who have appeared for the exam should be compensated,” the BJP leader said.

“There will be many intellectuals who are going to join the Nirudyoga March from Warangal. Job aspirants will also be joining,” he said, adding they have got police permission for the same.

The next leg of his march will be from Mehboobnagar on April 21 followed by Khammam, for which the dates are still being finalised, the BJP said.

“I will be doing 10 rallies across the state and then conclude with a mega rally in Hyderabad,” Bandi Sanjay told ANI earlier.

“There are three demands. IT Minister KT Rama Rao should resign following the paper leak. We demand an inquiry into this by a sitting High Court judge and compensation of Rs 1 lakh for all the students affected by the leak,” Sanjay further elaborated.

Lobby associated with RSS inciting protesting doctors in Rajasthan: CM

    [ad_1]

Kota: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday alleged that a “lobby” associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was inciting and misguiding private doctors agitating against the Right to Health Bill in the state while patients are suffering.

The protesting doctors have claimed that the execution of the legislation will create hurdles in their smooth functioning and the involvement of local authorities will increase.

People have been given the right to access health services for free up to Rs 25 lakh as the government will pay for the treatment under the Bill, the chief minister told reporters here when asked about the ongoing strike. He also appealed to the doctors to end their protest.

    MS Education Academy

“The recommendations given by the doctors to the finance secretary were all agreed upon but later on some four to five doctors, who are associated with the RSS, raised objections. It is not an allegation but the truth that they are people from the RSS,” Gehlot said. He also said the “four to five people, associated with the RSS, who misguided the doctors, are ‘gaddar’ (traitors)”.

The chief minister claimed that two people came from Delhi and called him up to meet him.

“They were directed to Finance Secretary Akhil Arora, but instead of meeting with the secretary, the two went to the governor. They after misguiding doctors here, returned to Delhi,” Gehlot said and claimed that the two persons from the national capital are also associated with the RSS.

The chief minister said that “a lobby of the RSS is ruining doctors, misguiding them…”. The notification for the RTH is yet to be issued and if there are doubts and confusion, they could be cleared, he said.

“It is not the time for politics as people are suffering and they should immediately end their strike,” Gehlot said

A delegation of the protesting doctors met the chief minister at the Kota airport. Gehlot listened to the doctors while trying to clear their doubts and appealing to them to end their strike.

Trump supporter protesting Manhattan DA probe charged with menacing, harassment

    [ad_1]

Rucker, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, does not have a prior criminal record. She is due back in court on May 17.

Rucker told officers she brandished the blade in “self defense,” according to Oltarsh. While she holds an Alaska driver’s license it was unclear whether she lived in Colorado or Texas, Oltarsh told the judge. She was released under a court-mandated supervision program to ensure she does not flee the state.

The altercation came after Trump called on his supporters to protest the probe and predicted “potential death & destruction” if he is indicted for his alleged role in a 2016 hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.

Wearing a white thermal long-sleeve undershirt, blue jeans, and blue sneakers, Rucker stood expressionless in court Wednesday night. She refused to speak with reporters after the arraignment.

Judge Michael Gaffey issued an order of protection for the family.

The foursome bumped into the Trump supporter while crossing the intersection of Hogan Place and Centre Street just after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, three bystanders told POLITICO. Rucker began arguing with the couple before she pulled out the knife and waved it at the family, according to the bystanders.

Court officers, who were stationed outside the building, rushed over, pulled out their guns and ordered the woman to drop the knife, the bystanders said. She was arrested without incident.

Despite calls from the former president to protest a potential indictment, so far, significant support for Trump has failed to materialize. Rucker was the only protester present outside the courthouse Tuesday.

The grand jury hearing evidence in the case is not expected to meet over the next month largely due to a previously scheduled hiatus.

Protesting job aspirants gherao BJP president over APTECH issue in Jammu

    [ad_1]

Jammu: Despite an assurance by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha about transparent and merit-based selection in the recruitment process, dozens of job aspirants on Tuesday gheraoed J-K BJP president Ravinder Raina here over the issue of engaging a previously blacklisted company for conduct of computer-based written tests.

Raina was encircled by the protesters at the office of the power development department in Gandhi Nagar where he had gone to deposit electricity charges after supply line to his residential quarter was snapped over non-payment of the bills.

“I am already aware of your apprehensions because some of my own cousins are also part of the protests. The Lt Governor has made it clear that if you have evidence, he is ready to take appropriate action,” Raina told the protestors who submitted a file of papers as proof against the APTECH limited, which was hired by the J-K Services Selection Board (JKSSB) to conduct the examination to fill up vacancies in various government departments.

The BJP leader heard the protesters patiently and assured them that he is ready to accompany them with these papers to the Lt Governor or the chairman of the JKSSB, saying that he had tried to contact both of them but they were not available.

The protesters demanded immediate cancellation of the contract with the agency having a tainted track-record.

They also questioned the statement of the Lt Governor of providing employment to 30,000 youths over the past three years.

Addressing a function in Jammu on Monday, the Lt Governor said deliberate attempts are being made to stop the recruitment process by misleading the job aspirants.

“We have provided government jobs to 30,000 youth in three years. Our effort is to provide another 12,000 jobs this year,” Sinha had said, assuring the job seekers that there will be complete transparency and jobs will be provided to meritorious students only.

“We came across complaints in the past and cancelled the examinations. The cases were handed over to the CBI which has arrested many people. I assure you that nobody will be spared even if he or she is an influential person,” Sinha said, asserting that his administration has zero tolerance for corruption.

Hyderabad: Middle finger shown to protesting students at right-wing event in UoH

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed in the University of Hyderabad (UOH) when a programme was allowed to be held by right-wing think tank Pragna Bharati in the campus. After got students got to know of it, many of them were prevented from entering the event. The situation got more tense after a man, alleged to be an RSS member, showed protesting students a middle-finger while walking in.

At the event in UoH, known speakers such as right-wing ideologue Rajiv Malhotra and BJP Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy attended the event. Malhotra is most infamous on social media for featuring in a video with rape-accused Swami Ntiyananda, and discussing about a bizarre idea of how to get money from the billionaires in world to deliver it to them in the next life.

During the program organised by Pragna Bharati on Monday, several students were prevented from entering the talk. Students claims that only people who are affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were let in. Many who were unhappy with the presence of the right-wing speakers in UoH turned up to protest at the event.

Over the last few years the University of Hyderabad administration has also prevented various speakers from entering the campus to speak with the students (like Yogendra Yadav).

Pragna Bharati organised an interactive session with Rajiv Malhotra, Subramanian Swamy and Vijaya Viswanathan on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Zakir Hussain lecture hall.

Among vidoes shot during the protest in UoH, one of those shows a man in kurta who was being escorted into the lecture hall. In that video, he responded to the sloganeering students by whistling at them and pointing his middle finger towards them.

“We were stopped from attending the session under the pretext that we did not register for the program. We only came because we wanted to listen to the speakers and interact with them,” said Kripa, the general secretary of the student union while speaking to Siasat.com.

She said a complaint against the man was given to the Gachibowli police and the University of Hyderabad administration also. In another video the police and UoH security were seen pulling the students away and preventing them from entering the hall.

The program organisers from Pragna Bharati said that they did not invite him to the sessions and that they had no clue about the incident until the police had informed them later. Speaking to Siasat.com, One of the organisers from Pragya Bharati, who identified himself as Sharmaji, called the students “anti-nationals”.

Various university students shared the video of the incident on social media, accusing RSS and ABVP of bringing the man (who showed the middle finger) into the university.

  • NC delegation joins protesting students, JKSSB aspirants

Demands banning of tainted APTECH company, rues unbending attitude of administration

Srinagar, Mar 9 (GNS): National Conference on Thursday expressed dismay over the government’s non-serious attitude towards the grievances of students and JKSSB aspirants protesting against hiring tainted APTECH firm for conducting professional exams.

With the chorus for banning APTECH getting louder, YNC Provincial President Salman Ali Sagar, Provincial Vice President Ahsan Pardesi, Provincial Spokesperson Ifra Jan and YNC functionaries joined the peaceful sit-in of the JKSSB aspirant’s at the press enclave Srinagar.

While expressing solidarity with the aggrieved aspirants, they said, “The unbending attitude of the government had pushed the aggrieved aspirants to take to the streets in protest. Nothing significant is being done to allay the apprehensions of the job aspirants, it seems that the government doesn’t give two hoots about what our educated youth are going through. Far from reaching out to aggrieved aspirants, the administration is resorting to highhandedness. In doing so the administration is letting slip to its real face. Why is the future of hundreds of job aspirants being put into the hands of those who lack credibility?”

Demanding that the LG administration should rise to the occasion and take necessary measures for the larger benefit of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, the functionaries said, “We are concerned about the future of our youth as they are crossing the age limit due to the failure of the administration to complete the recruitment process on time. How many times they have to appear for the same exam time and again,” adding, “Our youth are submitting forms, paying money. Why should they pay hefty amounts for a blacklisted company? The decision of the government to continue with the blacklisted company reveals how deeply entrenched corruption is in Jammu and Kashmir and how alienated the government is from the issues concerning people, particularly unemployed and educated youth.”

They demanded that the JKSSB should conduct the exams by utilizing the services of credible agencies. (GNS)

  • Haryana: Cops use water cannons on protesting employees; Hooda slams action

Haryana: Cops use water cannons on protesting employees; Hooda slams action

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: The Haryana Police on Sunday used water cannons and teargas on thousands of protesting government employees demanding restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).

Coming out in support of employees, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda condemned using force against the protesting employees in Panchkula. He said the employees were protesting for legitimate demands.

“Cane-charge and use of teargas on a peaceful protest is highly condemnable. In a democracy, the government runs through dialogue, but Haryana’s BJP-JJP alliance wants to run the government through sticks and bullets,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition said the Congress supports the demand of the employees and promised to strongly raise the issue in the forthcoming Budget session of the Vidhan Sabha.

“If the present government does not accept the demands of the employees, a decision will be taken to implement OPS in the very first cabinet meeting after the formation of the Congress government in the state. The old-pension scheme has already been implemented in Congress-ruled Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh. Employees in Haryana will also get benefits on the same lines.”

Talking to the media after the Congress Legislature Party meeting here, he said the MLAs discussed party strategy in the assembly in detail.

Congress MLAs have given more than two dozen calling attention and adjournment motions in the assembly session and dozens of other issues will also be raised during the Zero Hour.

He said the Congress would raise family identity card, cut in pension of senior citizens, cut in BPL card, illegal mining, NGT cases, unemployment, demand for OPS, privatization of education, etc.

When asked about the budget, Hooda said nothing can be expected from this government after seeing the record of the last eight years.

Ahead of the meeting, delegations of agitating employees for OPS, sportspersons, ration depot holders, private college employees, Sarva Karmachari Sangh and farmers met Hooda and handed over a memorandum regarding their demands.

Hooda asked the government to take cognizance of their demands.

Bengal MP complains of getting threats for protesting against coal smuggling

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: Dibyendu Adhikari, two-time Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP and younger brother of leader of opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, alleged on Saturday that he is receiving life threats over phone for raising his voice against coal smuggling in the Haldia Dock Complex which comes under his constituency in East Midnapore district.

Adhikari levelled the allegations on the the same day his father and three-time Lok Sabha MP, Sisir Kumar Adhikari, wrote to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman about a fictitious bank account opened in his name without his knowledge at a public sector bank in the district.

Although both Sisir Adhikari and Dibyendu Adhikari continue to be Trinamool Congress MPs as per Lok Sabha records, their connection with the party snapped since Suvendu Adhikari joined the BJP from the Trinamool before the 2021 Assembly polls.

On Saturday, Dibyendu Adhikari told mediapersons that late on January 24 night, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) assistant commandant was injured in clashes with coal smugglers operating in the dock area in Haldia.

“As the local Lok Sabha member, I informed the matter to Home Minister Amit Shah. I also raised my voice demanding greater coordination between the CISF and the local police to check the menace of coal smuggling in the dock area. Since then, I have been receiving regular threat calls on my mobile,” he said.

However, Adhikari added that he is not scared by the threat calls.

“I will continue doing my duty as Tamluk MP as long as I continue in that chair,” he said.

However, Adhikari said that he has not filoed an official complaint with the local police on this count.

“I had approached the local police on many issues before, but the problems were not solved. So what is the point in informing the police on this matter,” he asked.

Trinamool Rajya Sabha member Santanu Sen said that levelling such ‘wild’ allegations without informing the police is meaningless.

“He should come clean first on his current political stand. He has maintained liaison with the BJP while continuing as a Trinamool member officially. Why didn’t he resign first as an MP,” Sen asked.

Adani row: Water cannon used against protesting AAP workers in Chandigarh

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police on Sunday used water cannon to prevent AAP workers from moving towards the BJP office here as part of their protest against the Centre over the Adani issue.

Aam Aadmi Party workers, gathered from various parts of Punjab, wanted to “gherao” the office of the Punjab BJP in Sector 37 here to register their protest against the party-led central government.

Barricades were put up and a heavy deployment of police was made to prevent the protesters from heading towards the Punjab BJP office.

Police used a water cannon when AAP workers tried to force their way towards the BJP office, said officials.

Carrying party flags, AAP workers shouted slogans against the BJP government over the Adani issue.

AAP MLA from the Jalalabad constituency Jagdeep Kamboj slammed the BJP alleging that it has failed on all fronts.

Later, police detained several party leaders and workers.

Earlier speaking to reporters at the party office, AAP leader Harchand Singh Barsat alleged that the Adani Group’s fortunes rose under the BJP rule.

Another AAP leader, Sunny Ahluwalia, said the party will continue to raise its voice over this issue.

Adani Group stocks had taken a beating on the bourses after US-based activist short-seller Hindenburg Research made a litany of allegations, including fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation, against the Gautam Adani-led group, which has dismissed the allegations as lies.

Opposition parties have been demanding a joint parliamentary committee probe into the issue.
