Arrested former CNI bishop grossly misappropriated church properties: ED

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: The Enforcement Directorate on Friday said it has found alleged “diversion” of crores of rupees and misappropriation of church assets as part of a money laundering probe against an arrested former bishop of the Church of North India (CNI) in Madhya Pradesh.

The former bishop, P C Singh, was arrested by the ED last month from Jabalpur district of the state and is currently in judicial custody.

The federal agency said it carried out fresh searches in this case on April 22 at five locations in Pune, Pachmarhi and Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Jalandhar and Kolkata.

    MS Education Academy

During the latest searches in this case of “embezzlement” of church funds, “incriminating” documents were seized, the ED said in a statement.

The agency had earlier carried out raids in connection with the case at Jabalpur, Mumbai, Ranchi and Nagpur and seized Rs 5,37,500 from Singh’s residence in March.

“Prima facie, various office-bearers of CNI, including P C Singh and earlier managing director of a trust under CNI, have been found (to be) involved in the gross misappropriation of church properties through sale/renting (them) out at much lower prices by showing the properties as deteriorating and encroached,” the ED claimed.

For example, it said, two one-acre plots with a building each at Satpura National Park and in Pachmarhi were rented out for 15 years at a rental price of Rs 12,500 per month to a private entity — Satpura Resorts Private Limited.

The agency said it has “prima facie found multiple instances of diversion of crores of rupees meant to be paid to the trust under CNI against the sale of properties”.

The money laundering case stems from an FIR lodged by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Madhya Pradesh Police.

The EOW had arrested Singh in September last year after allegedly recovering around Rs 1.60 crore in Indian and foreign currencies from his bungalow in Jabalpur, about 320 km from state capital Bhopal.

The state police’s special unit had raided him on September 8 last year after registering a cheating case against him on a complaint that alleged that the former bishop indulged in financial misconduct in running an educational society wherein Rs 2.70 crore collected as students’ fees by the society’s various institutions between 2004-05 and 2011-12 was misused.

After Singh’s arrest, the CNI sacked him from the bishop’s post.

    [ad_1]

Srinagar, Apr 27 (GNS): Chairperson J&K Waqf Board, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi on Thursday chaired a review meeting of District Verification Teams constituted earlier to carry out verification of all Waqf notified properties which have been left ignored over the years and have remained outside administrative control of J&K Waqf Board.

On the instructions of Waqf Board Chairperson, the District Verification Teams had been constituted vide order number 62 of 2023 in January this year & these teams were mandated to peruse all public representations/complaints of general public, wherein requests had been made to the Chairperson Waqf for take-over of all Waqf notified properties that were being managed locally with no legal accountability and there were lots of complaints of irregularities.

These committees had been directed to prepare a list of all Waqf notified properties & yet-to-be notified properties along with their assets, liabilities, staff, & income details.

Pertinently, J&K Waqf Board has also initiated the process for compilation of details of un-notified religious places & their assets, wherever representations have been made by the general public for take-over. The initiative of take-over of properties under the leadership of Dr Andrabi is being thought of as another major reform within J&K Waqf Board.

In her address Dr Darakhshan said that reforms in the Waqf Board have restored the trust in public and the Board is taking all steps to cleanse the wrongs in the management system of religious places. “We received thousands of requests from all corners of J&K about administrative take-over of notified religious sites and many others ill-managed by the local committees. We have taken over a couple of notified places after proper verification and are looking forward to taking control of many other such religious places after due checks in future”, said Andrabi. • Who will inherit Atiq Ahmed’s properties in Delhi?

Who will inherit Atiq Ahmed’s properties in Delhi?

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad is said to have left multiple high-value properties in Delhi, as per sources.

These properties consist of both residential and commercial real estate, including apartments and office spaces situated in Shaheen Bagh, Okhla and Jamia Nagar.

It is estimated that Atiq’s real estate portfolio in Delhi is worth several crores, said the sources.

    MS Education Academy

The significant question that arises now is who will inherit Atiq’s empire, which was allegedly acquired through unlawful means and is worth crores in multiple states.

Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj on Saturday night, in the presence of the police and in full glare of the media. Atiq and his brother were shot when they were taken for a medical test to the Colvin hospital. Both died on the spot.

The Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police have compiled a list of Atiq’s and his associates’ assets in districts such as Prayagraj and Kaushambi, among others, following the crackdown on their “illicit” properties.

In the past 50 days, Atiq’s entire family has been on the run and his son Asad was killed in an encounter in Jhansi.

The mafia don also lost his property and assets worth Rs 1,400 crore in Prayagraj, and his several properties have been demolished by the government.

The Enforcement Directorate has also dealt a severe blow by exposing assets worth over Rs 1,400 crore and discovering nearly 50 shell companies that Atiq and his gang used to convert black money earned from extortion into white money.

A day before he was killed in Prayagraj, the law enforcement agencies unearthed a huge cache of arms that belonged to him.

Besides confiscating Atiq and his gang’s property worth Rs 1,400 crore, 15 teams of the Enforcement Directorate have also expedited their money laundering probe against Atiq and exposed assets worth another Rs 108 crore.

The documents recovered during the ED’s raids on Atiq have revealed more than 50 shell companies which are dummy companies owned by someone else in the documents, but they were invested in by Atiq and his gang.

All these companies were involved in the black money business network and the ED dragnet has fallen on a lawyer, Atiq’s accountant, a real-estate businessman, a former BSP MLA, a builder and a car showroom owner who have been central to running Atiq’s ‘business’.

The crackdown on Atiq Ahmad has also ‘destroyed’ his family.

Of his five sons, one has been killed, two are in jail and two minor sons are in juvenile home.

His wife, Shaista Parveen is absconding and so is the wife of his slain brother Ashraf. His sister, Noorie is in hiding and brother-in-law Akhlaq is in jail.

His relatives are afraid of admitting to any kind of links with him and his family.
