Pained by Telangana govt’s non cooperation in Centre’s projects: PM Modi

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday appealed to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS Government to not allow any obstruction in development being planned for the people of the state, as he expressed ‘pain’ at the alleged non-cooperation of the ruling dispensation towards central initiatives aimed at the southern state.

Speaking at a public meeting here, Modi without mentioning any names, said a handful of people encouraging ‘parivarvaad’ (dynastic politics) are trying to see where they can reap benefits from projects being implemented for the people of Telangana.

He said he was pained at the non-cooperation of the state government in Centre’s projects which according to him is affecting the dreams of the people of Telangana.

“I appeal to the state government to not allow any obstruction in developments being planned for Telangana people,” he said.

“Handful of people who encourage ‘parivarvaad’ are trying to see where they can reap benefits from projects being implemented for the people of Telangana,” the PM added.

He said Parivarvaad’ and corruption are not different and the latter begins to grow where there is ‘parivarvaad.

‘Parivarvaad’ was looting even the ration given to the poor people in Telangana, he alleged and stressed the state’s progress was important for overall national growth.

Modi said due to the covid pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, the world was witnessing ups and downs in the economy, but amid this uncertainty India was one of the countries which was investing record amount on infrastructure modernisation.

He said Rs 10 lakh crore was allotted for infrastructure modernisation in this year’s budget.

Earlier in the day, the PM flagged off the Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express train from Secunderabad Railway station here.

He also launched and inaugurated several infrastructure projects from the public meeting venue.

PM Modi to launch projects worth Rs 11,300 cr in Hyderabad

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 11,300 crore in Telangana on April 8.

During his two-hour visit to Hyderabad, he will also address a public meeting at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.

As per the itinerary, Modi will reach Begumpet Airport at 11.30 a.m. He will then reach Secunderabad Railway Station to flag off Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express. This train is expected to reduce the travel time between the two cities by almost three and half hours and will be particularly beneficial for pilgrim passengers.

    MS Education Academy

This is the second Vande Bharat train to be started from Telangana within three months. In January, the Prime Minister had virtually flagged off Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat.

After flagging off Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express, the Prime Minister will attend a public meeting at Parade Grounds, where he will lay the foundation stone for new blocks at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bibinagar.

Union Minister for tourism and culture G. Kishan Reddy, who is a member of the Lok Sabha from Secunderabad, said this would give a big boost to the health infrastructure in Telangana. The expansion and new facilities include academic blocks, auditoriums, staff quarters, hostels and guest houses.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station, which is being taken at a cost of Rs 720 crore. The station will undergo a massive makeover with world-class amenities and an aesthetically designed iconic station building. The redeveloped station would be having double-level spacious roof plaza with all passenger amenities at one place along with multimodal connectivity for providing seamless transfer of passengers from rail to other modes among others.

The Prime Minister will also flag-off 13 new Multi-Modal Transport Service (MMTS) services in the suburban section of Hyderabad – Secunderabad twin city region, providing commuters with a fast, convenient and comfortable travel option.

He will also dedicate to the nation the doubling and electrification of Secunderabad-Mahabubnagar project. The project stretching for a distance of over 85 kms has been completed at a cost of nearly Rs 1,410 crore. The project will provide seamless connectivity and assist in enhancing the average speed of trains.

During the Programme, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of five National Highway projects worth more than Rs 7,850 crore. These road projects will strengthen the road connectivity of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

After spending an hour at the public function at Parade Ground, the Prime Minister will leave for Chennai from Begumpet Airport at 1.20 p.m.

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Union minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Telangana government was yet to release Rs 265.34 crore for the completion of MMTS Phase-II works.

The minister further said that the state hasn’t responded to several letters written by the ministry of railways requesting the release.

In reply to a question raised by BJP MP K Laxman in Rajya Sabha on Monday, he stated that as per the estimated cost of the project which was Rs 816.55 crore, the ministry of railways and the state government were supposed to share the cost on 1:2 ratio, which meant that the Telangana’s matching grant came to Rs 544.36 crore.

    MS Education Academy

“However, only Rs 279.02 crore till now,” said the Union minister.

Vaishnaw stated that out of the estimated cost of Rs 7350 crore for Manoharabad-Kothapalli, Bhadrachalam-Kovvuru, Akkannapet-Medak, Bhadrachalam-Sathupalli, Hyderabad MMTS Phase-II projects, works amounting to Rs 2588 crore have been completed.

  • Opinion poll projects Congress majority in Karnataka

Opinion poll projects Congress majority in Karnataka

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: An exclusive opinion poll conducted by ABP-CVoter in Karnataka in late March reveals that the Congress will probably win a majority of seats in the 224-seat Karnataka Assembly, which will go to the polls on May 10.

According to an analysis of the survey data, the vote share of the Congress could rise from 38 per cent in 2018 to 40.1 per cent this time. Compared to 80 seats in 2018, the ABP-CVoter survey projects the Congress to win between 115 and 127 seats.

The survey also reveals that the party is leading over rivals BJP and JD(S) in all the regions of Karnataka. Even in the old Mysore region, which has been a stronghold of the JD(S), the Congress is projected to edge ahead of its rival while the BJP is projected to perform very poorly in this region.

Using scientific random sampling techniques, the survey interacted with around 25,000 respondents across all demographics, age groups and identities.

According to the survey, the BJP will probably lose the state by some distance. The vote share of the party could come down from 36 per cent in 2018 to 34.7 per cent this time. The drop in vote share is small, but the projected loss of seats is far higher.

From 104 seats in 2018, the party is projected to win between 68 and 80 seats, far behind the Congress. Contrary to what some political analysts say, the JD(S) will not be decimated or wiped out, as per the survey. The vote share of the party remains virtually the same at 18 per cent while the number of seats won drops from 37 in 2018 to between 23 and 35 seats this time.

If the initial ABP-CVoter poll projections hold true, the Congress could be in a position to form the government on its own in Karnataka like it had done in 2013.

Telangana: Centre sanctions 9 projects manufacturing defence equipment

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Central Government sanctioned nine projects to Telangana under the Technological Development Fund plan for the manufacture of various defence equipment, the union minister of state for defence, Ajay Bhatt, Union Minister of State for Defence, stated in Lok Sabha that 68 projects had been sanctioned to 14 states throughout the nation.

While Karnataka and Maharashtra both received 14 projects, Tamil Nadu received nine and Uttar Pradesh received five.

To date, 68 projects totalling Rs. 287.40 crore have been sanctioned under the TDF Program. The DRDO’s share is Rs.250.12 crore, and Rs.58.87 crore of that has been released, he added.

In response to a question from Girish Bhalchandra Bapat, he stated that the government has taken several policy initiatives and reforms in recent years to encourage indigenous design, development, and manufacture of defence equipment, thereby promoting self-reliance in defence manufacturing in the country. These initiatives include prioritising the acquisition of capital items from domestic sources under the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP)-2020.

Among the several attempts are the simplification of the industrial licence procedure with a longer validity time; liberalisation of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy, which allows 74 percent FDI via the automatic route; and simplification of the ,ake Procedure.

  • IMF Projects UK Economy to Keep Shrinking as Rishi Sunak Marks 100 Days in Office

    [ad_1]

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak marked 100 days in office last month. The International Monetary Fund and UK economists predicted that the UK economy would continue to shrink, despite the PM’s best efforts to stabilize the country’s markets.

The same report predicted that China and India’s economies would account for more than half of GDP growth and stated that the UK would be the only country with an economy in recession this year. Experts expect that there will be a 0.06% overall reduction in the UK economy this year, and various cabinet members are citing several reasons for the shrinkage.

In February, their independent Office Of Budget Responsibility warned that the recession would last at least through 2023. The UK’s economic situation is deteriorating over many factors, including the increased price of heating, gas, and oil due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the fallout from Brexit, and the fact that the country’s economy never quite recovered after Covid-19 shutdowns.

Additionally, annual inflation hit 11.1% in October and stayed at 10.5% in December, the highest in four decades. It is important to note that the overall GDP increased by 4% in 2022. However, the UK remains the only G-7 country not to recover its output after the pandemic fully.

While Sunak blames outside forces like the Russian invasion, other experts point the finger at Brexit, which has caused much lower trade exports with the rest of Europe. The British PM focuses on expanding trade with other countries, including India. Over the last year, the UK and India have had six rounds of talking over trade and investment agreements that would boost trade by billions of dollars in both countries. While this much-needed trade agreement will help boost the economy overall, the UK has a long way to go before the government can quell its economic woes.

As with any recession, unemployment is up, and so is inflation, further infuriating labourers, who have already organized dozens of strikes – which conservatives in the government blame for some of the economic stagnation. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the UK recorded the highest number of working days lost in over 30 years in 2022. Transportation, teaching, and healthcare industries have been the most affected. With inflation continuing to rise, workers demand better conditions and higher pay. While some contracts have been negotiated, the strikes will continue as the Prime Minister and this government refuse to budge on pay raises in the public sector. Earlier in February, over half a million teachers, train drivers, and other civil servants organized a walkout, the largest coordinated labour strike in a decade.

As the labour unions persist, members of Sunak’s own party immediately proposed a round of tax cuts, which they promise will stimulate the economy, especially job growth. Sunak has so far refused either party, saying that raising pay for workers will cause inflation to rise and that the “best tax cut right now is a cut in inflation.”

As the workers who have jobs walk out due to economic inequality, employment is falling across the private and public sectors, which economists predict will continue into 2023. This creates its own concerns. As residents fail to believe in the country’s economy, the black market economy always sees a boost. Currently, the UK is already dealing with the black gambling market. Numerous offshore casino sites that aren’t under UK regulations and therefore, not a part of GamStop, and are currently not being taxed. Increasing illegal goods/services and off-the-books jobs is another worry for lawmakers as small businesses try to avoid taxation. According to a report published by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), these black market businesses cost the UK over 150 billion euros every day, says a report published by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA). Of course, this is a problem all over the EU, where over 30 million people work or run businesses without paying taxes.

The rising cost of imports, like food and energy, has particularly alarmed families across the UK. In combination with rising inflation, it caused a curb on spending, leaving the country in a loop where they can’t quite stimulate new growth. With nothing in the works to address those families, Sunak’s government has instead focused on new trade with Ireland and India in recent weeks. A dispute over trade routes in Northern Ireland has added to rising costs and completely shuttered Belfast’s government, which Sunak seeks to alleviate. The PM says some progress has been made, but any concessions will likely anger his own party.

With two years left until reelection season and crushing economic predictions, Rishi Sunak will have a long fight ahead of him if he stands a chance of keeping his position. While Sunak is downplaying the role of Brexit, which he has been a long-time supporter of, many across the country are now finding that the economic fallout deeply affects every corner of the economy. With decreased foreign investment after the event, European and American companies have continued to resist investment opportunities in the UK.

Instability in the economy is the number one reason many companies pulled their investments. Then, last year, Liz Truss produced several (now abandoned) unpopular plans to cut taxes, which angered critics and caused further divestment. As she left her very short-term, most investors pulled out again, causing the economy to plummet. Though this up-and-down has remained chiefly quiet as Sunak’s continued leadership is once again signalling that it may be safe for foreign companies to reinvest, these new economic reports may further deter this.

In current opinion polls, the Conservative party is trailing the Labour Party by about 20 points, and some election experts are already predicting Sunak’s defeat. With local elections looming in May and polls showing a disgruntled populace that wants a change in leadership, the UK’s economy may not recover as quickly as the country’s leadership hopes.
