‘A Waste Project’ to clean up Nerella lake in Hyderabad

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A Waste Project is organising a clean-up drive on Thursday at the Nerella lake walkway, Kondapur with the help of volunteers from across the city.

The dried-up Nerella Lake, which is situated at a 10 minute walk from the Sarath City Mall, is strewn with plastic bottles, empty liquor bottles and plastic bags. Volunteers from across Hyderabad will be tidying up the space with some help from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Speaking about the initiative, Avinash told Siasat.com, “Our aim is to use social media as a tool to raise awareness and inculcate personal responsibility against littering. Of the 30 most polluted cities in the world, 22 are in India. We want to reach out to youth through social media and sensitise them about throwing garbage on roads and littering in their surroundings”.

A Waste Project was born out of a Reddit post made by Avinash, a Hyderabad based IT professional, informing people of his intentions to clean up garbage and asking them to join him.

He was joined by 2 more IT professionals, Nooman and Arjun, and a student, Eashwar. The four of them together organised upto 9 clean-up drives in the city. It has quickly turned into a volunteer backed organised effort to clean up public spaces in the city.

A Waste Project is inviting citizens to share images of litter and garbage in their surroundings on their social media platforms to organise the clean-up drives and also to join them at the Nerella Lake walkway clean up on Thursday.

The team provides gloves, masks and garbage collection bags to all the volunteers to keep them safe. Post the clean-up the before and after pictures are posted on social media to encourage netizens to keep their surroundings clean.

In the past, A Waste Project organised various clean up drives at Madhapur 100ft road, BHEL stadium, Malkam cheruvu, Raidurgam and Lanco hills lake, Manikonda.

For the last three days, the team has conducted the majority of the garbage clean up with help from 8 contract workers. On Thursday the clean up drive will be finalised with help from volunteers.

They informed that the aim is to engage people in cleaning up their surrounding in order to sensitise them against littering.

Though the cleaned spaces may be littered again, the team believes that the change created in the mindset of people would eventually bring about a lifestyle change.

The clean up drive at the Nerella Lake will begin at 7 AM and will go on for three hours.

Authorities Abandoning Core Idea Of Smart City Project: Tarigami

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The ongoing Smart City project in Srinagar has raised serious concerns for CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, who believes that key policy documents like the master plan and mobility plan have been ignored in its implementation. Tarigami is particularly worried about the impact of ongoing works such as the development of Moulana Azad Road and the redevelopment of Lal Chowk Prescient, which he believes are destroying the existing character of the cityscape instead of contributing to its development.

Despite the Smart Cities Mission Strategy’s focus on Greenfield development and the preservation of open spaces, essential public services like public transport, electricity, water supply, and other public utilities are still out of reach. The ongoing haphazard works have also increased the vulnerability of city dwellers, with excavation and shrinking roads reducing space for vehicular traffic and the city being defaced with construction and demolition waste.

Tarigami and the CPI(M) are calling for the Smart City Project to be implemented in accordance with the Master Plan 2035, a dynamic long-term statutory document that provides a conceptual layout for the city’s growth and development. The plan is essential to ensuring that the project achieves its core aim of providing citizens with a clean and sustainable environment and smart solutions to public issues.

  • UP RERA sends notice to M3M India for publicising project in violation of law

UP RERA sends notice to M3M India for publicising project in violation of law

    [ad_1]

Noida: The Uttar Pradesh RERA on Saturday said it has issued a notice to developer M3M India for allegedly starting promotion and marketing for sale of units in a project in Noida without registering it with the authority in a direct violation of rules.

The UP Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UP RERA) also warned that if the unregistered project is not discontinued, its promoter can be imprisoned, and cautioned other developers to follow the RERA Act strictly, according to an official statement.

However, the Gurugram-based developer told PTI that the (promotional) campaign which is being projected in Noida, is “purely an extension of M3M’s corporate campaign” to bring awareness and sensitise people about the presence of M3M in the city.

    MS Education Academy

“UP RERA has issued notice to NOIDEA project of M3M India Pvt Ltd in Gautam Buddh Nagar after getting information about violation of RERA Act.

“UP RERA has found that M3M India Pvt Ltd has not completed the process of RERA registration of its project NOIDEA and started promotion and marketing for sale of the units, which is a direct violation of Section 3 of RERA Act,” UP RERA Secretary Rajesh Kumar Tyagi said in the statement.

“Under Section 59 of the Act, the promoter is liable to pay a penalty of up to 10 per cent of the project cost and/or a jail term of up to three years,” Tyagi said.

UP RERA said it has found that M3M India did not register the project with RERA and started publicity of the project. It also found that there was evidence of the promoter “continuously trying to take his project to the general public through various mediums”.

The RERA Act has been enacted to protect the interests of homebuyers and to develop the real estate sector, the RERA secretary said.

“Any arbitrariness committed by builders prior to the enactment of the RERA Act in the real estate sector in Uttar Pradesh will now be dealt with strict actions. If any other promoters of the state are also found involved in such violations, there will be no delay in the actions,” Tyagi added.

The UP RERA has instructed promoters of M3M India to “strictly comply” with Section 3/59, which bars a promoter from publicity of any housing project without first getting it registered with the state’s RERA.

When contacted, M3M India said the particular campaign mentioned by the UP RERA is not publicity of the project NOIDEA.

“We would like to clarify that the campaign which is being projected in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, is purely an extension of M3M’s corporate campaign to bring awareness and sensitise people about the presence of M3M in the city. We have at no point publicised the project,” M3M India told PTI in a statement.

“M3M is a law-abiding developer and operates on the principles of corporate governance and ethics, adhering to all the guidelines and policies issued by the state government. M3M India has committed a large investment in Uttar Pradesh, mostly Noida, and will also ensure jobs to thousands of people in the area,” the developer added.

  • Fed economists project recession this year, in potential blow to Biden

Fed economists project recession this year, in potential blow to Biden

    [ad_1]

    aptopix federal reserve 68406

Their projection was for “a mild recession starting later this year, with a recovery over the subsequent two years,” according to the minutes, released Wednesday. That would spark a jump in unemployment. They estimated the economy would fully recover by 2025.

The economic outlook is always difficult to foretell with any confidence, and staff members underscored their uncertainty at the meeting. If banks don’t pull back on lending as much as they expect, then the economy might not suffer as much. But if the financial system were to face even more stress, then the prognosis could be much worse.

“Historical recessions related to financial market problems tend to be more severe and persistent than average recessions,” staff noted, according to the minutes.

For their part, officials with an actual say in rate policy aren’t quite forecasting a recession. At the March meeting, their median projection was for the U.S. economy to grow 0.4 percent — a rate so slow that it could easily dip negative. Meanwhile, they expect unemployment to rise roughly a percentage point, conditions that would be consistent with an economic contraction.

Fed officials expect the recent string of bank failures to lead cash to flow less freely through the economy as lenders are less willing to part with it, something Chair Jerome Powell has noted could act as essentially another rate hike.

Central bank policymakers are considering whether another rate hike will be needed when they meet next in May, or if borrowing costs are high enough for now to bring inflation down over time.

Members of the Fed’s rate-setting committee said in March “that it was too early to assess with confidence the magnitude of the effect of a credit tightening on economic activity and inflation, and that it was important to continue to closely monitor developments,” according to the minutes.

  • Congress slams govt after NGT forms panel to revisit environmental nod to Nicobar project

Congress slams govt after NGT forms panel to revisit environmental nod to Nicobar project

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Friday attacked the Centre over the National Green Tribunal constituting a committee to re-examine the environmental nod to the Great Nicobar Island project, alleging that the Modi government has embarked on “ecocide” and what is being pushed through is an “ecological nightmare”.

The National Green Tribunal has constituted a high-powered committee to re-examine the environmental clearance granted to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation (ANIDCO) for the multi-component mega project in the Great Nicobar Island.

Alongside the development of an international container transhipment terminal, the project also involves the construction of a military-civil dual-use airport, a gas-, diesel- and solar-based power plant, and a township.

    MS Education Academy

Tagging a media report on the committee’s constitution, Congress general secretary and former Union environment minister Jairam Ramesh said, “When we are applauding 50 years of Chipko Andolan and Project Tiger and 40 years of the historic decision to protect Silent Valley, the Modi government has embarked on ecocide in Great Nicobar.” “What is being pushed through is an ecological nightmare,” Ramesh said.

The National Green Tribunal was hearing appeals against forest clearance and environmental clearance provided to the project proponent ANIDCO. On January 11, it had sought a response from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the project proponent.

A bench of chairperson Justice AK Goel along with judicial members Justice Sudhir Agarwal, Justice B Amit Sthalekar and Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi said there was a need for adequate studies on the adverse impact on coral reefs, mangroves, turtle nesting sites, bird nesting sites, other wildlife, of erosion, disaster management and other conservation and mitigation measures.
