Hyderabad: OU to consider EWS quota in its admission process

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Osmania University (OU) on Wednesday gave its assurance to the Telangana High Court that the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) reservation will be taken into consideration during its admissions session.

The promise came after a student named N Uma from Chintal in the Rangareddy district filed a petition against OU and its Directorate of Admissions for failing to implement the EWS reservations in the PhD entrance test in 2022 conducted by the university.

“Admission to the PhD course is subject to the norms and regulations of the state government’s reservation policies for the PhD entrance test in 2022,” says the OU’s information brochure.

The Telangana government had issued GOMs No.244 dated August 24, 2021, to implement EWS reservations in admissions to educational institutions and appointments to posts provided in favour of EWS citizens other than Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and the socially and educationally backward classes in the state.

The university however failed to oblige to this directive, the petitioner’s lawyer, Gadipally Malla Reddy claimed.

He further informed the court that the petitioner was denied a seat.

In response to the court’s inquiry, OU’s lawyer said the university would comply with the GO on EWS reservations.

Application process for 2nd edition of JEE-Main to conclude on March 12

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The application process for second edition of engineering entrance exam JEE-Main began on Wednesday and will conclude on March 12, National Testing Agency (NTA) officials said.

The second session of the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2023 will be conducted from April 6 to April 12, with April 13 and 15 kept as reserved days.

“The dates of advance intimation of examination city, downloading of admit cards, and declaration of result will be displayed on JEE (Main) portal at the appropriate time,” a senior NTA official said.

Candidates are not allowed to fill more than one application form, else it will be treated as unfair means.

“Candidates who had already appeared in January (first session) will log in with the same credentials and pay the examination fee for the April exams. Filing more than one application form will be treated as UFM (unfair means), even if found at a later stage, and strict action will be taken against that candidate,” the official added.

The NTA had earlier this month announced the result for first edition of JEE-Main in which 20 candidates had scored perfect 100.

A record 95.80 per cent attendance was recorded in the January edition of the crucial exam with over 8.23 lakh candidates appearing for it.

The examination was held in 13 languages (Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu).

The examination was also conducted outside India in 17 cities of Manama, Doha, Dubai, Kathmandu, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, Singapore, Kuwait City, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos and Abuja, Colombo, Jakarta, Moscow, Port Louis, Bangkok, Washington D.C.

After both sessions of JEE (Main) 2023 examination, the ranks of the candidates will be released taking into consideration the best of the two NTA scores in accordance with the policy already made.

Based on the results of JEE-Mains Paper 1 and Paper 2, the top 2.6 lakh candidates will be eligible to appear for the JEE-Advanced exam, which is a one-stop exam to get admission into the 23 premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

  • In process of finalising online gaming regulations, Centre to Delhi HC

In process of finalising online gaming regulations, Centre to Delhi HC

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday was informed by the Centre that the draft for online gaming regulation has been circulated and it is in the process of finalising the same with two rounds already over.

The Central government’s counsel said: “Draft regulation has been circulated and consultations with the stakeholders have started.

“Two rounds have already happened. We are in the process of finalising the same.”

A division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad, hearing petitions by advocate Atul Batra and Avinash Mehrotra, said that the court would hear the matter post eight weeks.

In Batra’s plea, it was stated that in the name of “games of skill”, “games of chance” are being promoted and that equates to online gambling, which is as bad as any substance abuse.

It was stated that keeping a tab on online gambling is must and if it is not done, it might be harmful for the youth as they can fall prey to such games damaging their life personally and professionally.

Howevet, Batra, who said that it (his plea) does not require any further order, was granted liberty to approach the court again in case of any grievance while the latter closed the proceedings on the same.

In the petition by Mehrotra, which seeks recovery of taxes due from online players and site operators, it is claimed that with online gambling system not being regulated in India, it is also a great place for carrying out hawala operations and laundering money.

The plea seeks court’s direction to the Centre to prosecute the unscrupulous owners/proprietors, and the promoters of the online gambling websites in accordance with law.

Indian Army Changes Agniveer Recruitment Process, Check details

The Indian Army has announced a major change in the Agniveer recruitment procedure as the candidates will have to undergo an online test as the first step.

The process previously involved a physical test followed by a medical test and finally the Common Entrance Examination (CEE) online at designated centres. This amended procedure will be applicable from this year itself. Online registration for this year’s recruitment process will open in mid-February.

In an official notice issued by the Army, it was revealed that the new procedure starts with the online CEE after registration. If the candidates clear the entrance exam, they will be shortlisted for the recruitment rally including a medical examination.

The next step will be the Allocation of Arms and services and those making the final cut will be asked to report at the training centre. “The changed methodology will ensure increased focus on cognitive aspect during selection. It will have wider outreach across the country and also reduce the large crowds seen during recruitment rallies to make them more manageable and easier to conduct,” the notice read. Meanwhile, the candidates can practise for the Agniveer online exam by visiting the Indian Army’s official website where category-wise links are being hosted. They can also check the website for queries on ‘How to register’ and How to Appear in Online Common Entrance Exam’.

Mocking New Verification Process, Fake Verified Twitter Profiles Of George W Bush, Tony Blair Tweeted Controversial Tweets

    [ad_1]

Verified Twitter accounts with blue check marks bearing the profile names of former President George W. Bush and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair reminisced about the Iraq War on Wednesday.

A tweet screenshot that is viral on Twitter shows George W. Bush tweeting, “I miss killing Iraqis,” while Tony Blair quotes him and writes, “Same tbh.” But the Twitter accounts are not actually managed by Bush and Blair and are fake, according to reports.

After Twitter changed its verification process and eligibility, now everyone can get the blue checkmark after paying monthly fees as a subscription to Twitter Blue. This change is criticised by the majority of people across the world.

To mock the change in verification, two anonymous accounts that used the names of George W. Bush and Tony Blair tweeted the controversial tweet, the reports say.

In contrast, it was one or more anonymous users who were mocking the upgraded verification process introduced by Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, and who charge $8 per month. They created user identities that resembled those of Bush and Blair before enrolling in the premium system to obtain the blue check mark.

Their conversation might have appeared genuine to a casual observer.

As later explained by the fake Bush profile:

Verified Twitter accounts with blue check marks bearing the profile names of former President George W. Bush and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair reminisced about the Iraq War.
    Twitter screenshot

“Y’all are missing the point about the $8. “It’s a small price to make this app completely unusable, and I’m assuming he is going to quickly learn we can get refunds from the credit cards we used if he suspends us prior to a month.”

Critics fear that the new verification process will make it simpler to impersonate others and facilitate the spreading of false information, especially in the case of public figures who choose not to pay the monthly charge.

Musk has vowed to suspend profiles that impersonate others.

Within hours following the posts, Twitter deleted both fake accounts.
