  • Govt changes gas pricing formula, caps rates to rein-in CNG, piped cooking gas prices

Govt changes gas pricing formula, caps rates to rein-in CNG, piped cooking gas prices

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved a new formula for pricing of natural gas and imposed cap or ceiling price to rein in runaway prices of CNG and piped cooking gas.

Natural gas produced from legacy or old fields, known as APM gas, will now be indexed to crude oil price instead of pricing it based gas prices in surplus nations such as the US, Canada and Russia, Union I&B Miniser Anurag Thakur told reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet.

From April 1, APM gas will be priced at 10 per cent of the price of basket of crude oil that India imports (Indian basket of crude oil). The rate such arrived at however will be capped at USD 6.5 per million British thermal unit as against current gas price of USD 8.57 per mmBtu.

    MS Education Academy

The price such arrived at will also have a floor of USD 4 per mmBtu.

Rates will be decided every month instead of current practice of bi-annual revision, he said.

  • Transport, low productivity push pulses prices

Transport, low productivity push pulses prices

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Prices of pulses are gradually increasing across the country and are being used on ration cards in some states. It is becoming difficult to procure it in other states. Each pulse has increased from Rs 10 to Rs 40. The increase in petrol and diesel prices has had an impact on the price of pulses due to increase in transport charges.

Apart from this, due to the shortage of pulses, prices have also increased. During the financial year 2022-23, the production of pulses has also decreased significantly across the country. Which has also had an impact on the price of pulses.

Usually, farmers bring pulses for sale in agricultural markets in the rabi season after February, but due to low production, pulses are reaching the market in small quantities. Complaints are also being received from wholesale sellers about raising prices by creating false shortage of pulses. Illegal hoarders have been warned against hoarding.

    MS Education Academy

The central government directed all states to keep an eye on the prices of pulses and advised them to take strict action against those creating artificial shortages. Even in Telangana, tur dal (legumes), mash or urad dal (While lentil) and moong dal (Petite Yellow Lentils) have not been cultivated as expected.

Unseasonal rains have also damaged pulses crops. The agriculture department had initially estimated that tur dal would be cultivated on 12 lakh acres of land. But in the end, the report submitted to the government by the Department of Agriculture and Statistics states that it is cultivated only on 5.65 lakh acres of land.

However, global availability in the coming year is expected to be better with increase in production expected from Myanmar, where arrivals have started and pulses sowing intentions in African countries indicating increase in area coverage under pulses, which will be available from August 2023 onwards. This will keep the consistent flow of pulses imports and can address concerns related to availability.

  • Oil prices surge after OPEC+ announce to cut output

Oil prices surge after OPEC+ announce to cut output

    [ad_1]

Moscow: The Oil prices have surged and surpassed USD 85 per barrel after several oil producer countries announced surprise cuts in production, TASS Agency reported.

According to the Russian News Agency, this is the first time since March 7 that the price of futures contracts of Brent crude oil surged.

The price of futures contracts of Brent crude oil for June 2023 delivery on London’s ICE surpassed USD 85 per barrel.

    MS Education Academy

As of 1:09 am Moscow time on Monday, the price of Brent oil went up by 6.43 per cent to USD 85.03 per barrel, according to TASS Agency.

By 1:12 am (Local Time), Brent was trading at USD 85.41 per barrel (6.46 per cent). The price of futures contracts of WTI crude oil for May 2023 delivery went up by 6.21 per cent, to USD 80.37 per barrel.

Earlier, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Plus oil producers announced further output cuts of around 1.16 million barrels per day.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital and main financial hub said it would cut output by 500,000 barrels per day, or BDP, from May until the end of 2023, state media reported.

In a statement carried out by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Saudi official emphasised that this is a precautionary measure aimed at supporting the stability of the oil market, according to Emirates News Agency.

This voluntary cut is in addition to the reduction in production agreed upon during the 33rd OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting, held on 5th October 2022.

The move came as a surprise as OPEC Plus said that they did not intend to make any changes in their policies but this announcement blew everyone, The Washington Post reported.

The alliance produced nearly two million barrels below its supply target in February, the last month for which official output figures are available. “We expect shortfalls to continue,” said Ha Nguyen, a global oil analyst for S and P Global Commodity Insights.

There have been persistent reports that Russia is struggling to keep up production without the benefit of Western service companies that have wound down their operations since the Russian invasion of Ukraine more than a year ago.

Saudi production has also been below its production quota set by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries in recent months, reported The Washington Post.

  • Prices Of Essential Medicines To Increase By Over 12% From April 1

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Starting next month, the prices of necessary medications, such as painkillers, antibiotics, and anti-infectives, will begin to increase by over 12%.

The decision made by India’s drug pricing authority will affect over 800 drugs listed as essential medicines. This increase is the highest on record since the implementation of the Drugs (Price Control) Order in 2013.

Ahead of Ramzan, UAE temporarily hikes prices of eggs, poultry products

    [ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: With Ramzan around the corner, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a temporary increase in the prices of eggs and poultry products by a maximum of 13 percent, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Economy (MoE) approved the decision and the prices would be reviewed in six months’ time from now.

The hike is based on a ministerial resolution issued on March 6, after several companies requested it.

The ministry conducted its analytical study to find a benchmark range for the increased cost of eggs in the UAE.

According to the ministry study, a 13 to 20 percent increase would be reasonable.

The ministry said the temporary price hike was adopted as part of efforts to balance the needs of the commercial sector and consumers as well as maintain food security in the markets.

This increase will help protect egg and chicken companies and farms from global inflation and high production costs, as well as ensure that prices in the markets remain stable and reasonable.
