Wipro’s Q4 results: Will buyback prevent share price drop? Stocks dip 27 pc in 1 year

Wipro, Indian multinational corporation that specializes in information technology, consulting, and business process services, is set to announce its Q4 results today along with a proposed share buyback program.

Outcome of the Wipro Board Meeting
Wipro’s two-day board meeting began yesterday, during which they were expected to consider a proposal for a share buyback program. The outcome of the board meeting will be announced today along with the Q4 results.

In a statement to the stock exchanges, the company earlier said, “The outcome of the Board meeting will be communicated to the stock exchanges soon after the conclusion of the Board meeting on April 27, 2023.”
Wipro stocks dip by 27 percent in one year
Wipro’s share price has been on a downward trend for the past year, with the stocks dipping by over 27 percent. In the current year alone, the stocks have dropped by over four percent.
This decline is a cause for concern for investors, and the announcement of the buyback program is being seen as a potential solution to stabilize the share price.
Wipro’s past performance and share buyback program history
Wipro has a history of using share buyback programs. In 2021, the company bought back shares worth Rs 9500 crore at an offer price of Rs 400 per share. In 2019, it bought back shares worth Rs 10500 crore at an offer price of Rs 325 per share.
When it comes to declaration of the earnings, the reactions of the investors have been mixed in the past. Wipro’s shares traded in the red on the next day of the earnings declaration in six out of 13 quarters since 2020.

Jets ‘comfortable’ with price of Aaron Rodgers trade despite criticisms

New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas has defended the assets his team have given up to acquire Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers.
On Monday, news emerged that the Packers had agreed to trade the 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback along with their 2023 first-round pick (No 15 overall) and a 2023 fifth-round pick (No 170). In return they will receive the Jets’ 2023 first-round pick (No 13 overall), a 2023 second round pick (No 42), and a 2023 sixth-round pick (No 207). The Packers will also receive a conditional 2024 second-round pick that will become a first-rounder if Rodgers plays 65% of the Jets’ offensive snaps this season.
Many believe that the Jets paid a steep price for a player who will turn 40 in December, and recorded one of the worst statistical seasons of his career in 2022. Critics have pointed out that Rodgers, who has spoken of retiring on a number of occasions, could walk away from football next summer and still leave the Jets needing to give a first-round pick to the Packers in 2024.
On the flip side, Rodgers is a future Hall of Famer, was hampered by injury last season, has a talented supporting cast around him at the Jets and won the most recent of his four NFL MVP awards just two years ago.
“I mean, obviously, we’re comfortable with how this deal is shaped,” Douglas said on Tuesday. “I don’t think anyone ever walks away from a negotiation where you feel like you won everything in terms of what’s going back and forth. But ultimately our goal from the beginning was to add Aaron to the team and so we were able to get that agreed to and [we’re] just excited get him here.”
Rodgers said he was “90% retired” before deciding he wanted to play for the Jets. On Tuesday, Douglas declined to say how long he believes Rodgers will play for.
“I don’t want to put words in his mouth – you guys will have the opportunity to ask him those specific questions – but we’re obviously excited about this opportunity, excited about this deal and excited having him on this team,” Douglas said.
Whether or not the Jets gave up too much for Rodgers, there is little doubt he makes the team stronger. Since the terms of the trade were announced, the Jets have leapt from outsiders to sixth favourites to win the Super Bowl. Rodgers represents a major upgrade over Zach Wilson, the Jets’ former No 2 overall pick who has struggled badly since bring drafted in 2021. Douglas said he believes Rodgers will make Wilson a better player.

“I feel like this is going to be a great thing for Zach,” Douglas said. “No one works harder, no one loves ball [more] than Zach Wilson and him having the opportunity to really shadow and be with a Hall of Fame quarterback every day, every hour – that’s a great opportunity, a great learning experience.”
Jordan Love, who was drafted in 2020 to eventually replace Rodgers, will now step in as Green Bay’s starting quarterback. He will replace a future Hall of Famer, who led the Packers to 11 playoff appearances and a Super Bowl title. Rodgers leaves as the franchise’s leader in touchdown passes (475), completion percentage (65.3) and passer rating (103.6). He also made 10 Pro Bowls and was an All-Pro first-teamer on four occasions.

Rahul Gandhi vacates official bungalow, says ‘Price for speaking truth’

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said he was paying the price for speaking the truth and vowed to continue to raise people’s issues as he vacated his official bungalow in Lutyens’ Delhi and shifted to his mother Sonia Gandhi’s residence on Saturday.
Gandhi, who was disqualified from Lok Sabha last month following his conviction in a defamation case, was asked to vacate the 12, Tughlaq Lane bungalow by April 22.
“I have paid the price for speaking the truth, I am ready to pay any price,” he said, adding he would continue to raise issues of price rise and corruption with double the force.

Saturday morning, Gandhi moved out all his belongings from the bungalow where he had been staying for almost two decades.
Gandhi, his mother Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the bungalow in the morning. He handed over keys of the vacated house to officials of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
He also shook hands with CPWD officials and thanked them.
Talking to reporters while leaving the bungalow, he said, “I have no problem even if it has been snatched away from me. This house was given to me by the people of India. I will stay with the former Congress president (Sonia Gandhi) at 10, Janpath for some time and then find some other way.” Asked that he could have requested for more time to vacate the bungalow, Gandhi said, “I do not want to stay in this house.” Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said her brother was very courageous and “not scared of anyone and he will continue his struggle”.
All this is happening because he spoke the truth about this government, she said.

The Congress said the government may “evict” Gandhi from a house but he occupies a place in the hearts and homes of crores of Indians.
The party also launched a “MeraGharAapkaGhar” campaign on social media with party leaders offering their homes to Gandhi.
The Congress said on its official Twitter handle in Hindi that “this country is the home of Rahul Gandhi. Rahul who resides in the hearts of people.” “Rahul’s relation with the public is unbreakable. Some see in him their son, some brother, some their leader…. Rahul belongs to everyone and everyone belongs to Rahul. This is the reason why today the country is saying- Rahul ji, my house-your house,” the Congress said, using the hashtag “#MeraGharAapkaGhar”.
AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said, “They may evict you from a house, but you will always have a place in all our homes and hearts, Rahul ji. We know that such episodes won’t deter you from raising the voice of the people and speaking truth to power.” Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said Rahul Gandhi is neither worried about the post nor about the government house. “He did not compromise on his principles even after risking everything,” he said.
He also took a swipe at former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who continues to be at his official residence allotted to him as the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, saying Rahul Gandhi is not a “Ghulam”.
Another Congress spokesperson, Supriya Shrinate, said, “A house is not made of four walls and a cement roof. Home is a feeling – of peace, of love. And when crores of people open the doors of their hearts and homes for you, then it is even better.” “Rahul ji vacated his official residence today – his goal and destination is much higher than a house, much higher. No one can scare or silence this satyagrahi of truth because he is ready to pay any cost. #MeraGharAapkaGhar A small proof of this country’s love for you Rahul ji,” Shrinate said on Twitter.
“Today Rahul Gandhi vacates his home at Tughlaq Lane in response to the LokSabha Secretariat’s order. The Court gave him 30 days to appeal and the HC or SC could still reinstate him, but his exemplary gesture to move out shows his respect for the rules,” said party MP Shashi Tharoor in a tweet.
Gandhi, the former Congress chief, was disqualified from Parliament after a Surat court convicted and awarded a two-year sentence to him in a defamation case over his Modi surname remarks made in Kolar in Karnataka in 2019.
He moved a sessions court against the magistrate’s order but his plea was rejected. A relief on his conviction and disqualification could have paved the way for him to retain his official bungalow, allotted to him as a Wayanad MP.
Gandhi will now move the high court against the sessions court order.

BJP to pay a heavy price for rebellions, Amul-Nandini controversy

Bengaluru: The Karnataka BJP unit is upbeat about its chances in the May 10 assembly elections. The saffron party has gone one step ahead in replicating the Gujarat model in the state by allotting 52 tickets to new candidates in the first list and denying tickets to seven sitting MLAs in the second list.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has stated that the opponents are already shivering after seeing the list of candidates. Sources said that this was much needed in the interest of the party. However, it is posing a serious challenge to the BJP as the dropped MLAs are rebelling, especially the senior leaders who have vowed to prove themselves by joining hands with political rivals of the BJP.
Sources in the party said that the leaders have been told by the high command not to worry about the rebel candidates and they will take care of the situation. The campaign blitzkrieg of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been planned in such a way that the state would be swamped by a saffron wave.

However, the controversy surrounding the Amul and Nandini brands has dented the image of the party ahead of the polls. First it was an allegation of Hindi imposition on curd packets. The central agency withdrew it after facing a backlash not only in Karnataka, but in other south Indian states also.
When things seemed to be settling down, the BJP delivered another issue on a silver platter to the opposition by beginning to sell Amul milk and curd packets directly in Karnataka.
The Opposition and Kannada activists came out on the streets to protest the move. Soon, the issue was linked to the survival of the farmers who depend on selling milk to the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF). The BJP which initially ignored the agitation against Amul, later tried to control the damage by explaining how steps are being taken to strengthen the KMF and the Nandini brand.
The Opposition Congress and JD (S) used the controversy to reach out to the people of the state and successfully created suspicion about the BJP merging the Nandini brand with Amul.
The party is also dealing with the rebellion of its leaders, following the release of the first and second list of candidates. Controversial leader K.S. Eshwarappa was asked to retire from electoral politics. The party denied a ticket to former deputy CM Lakshman Savadi while former CM Jagadish Shettar’s ticket is yet to be announced. According to sources the high command is not interested in him.

Senior BJP leaders former deputy CM R. Ashoka and Minister V. Somanna have been given challenging tasks. They will take on Karnataka Congress president D.K. Shivakumar and Opposition leader Siddaramaiah respectively.
The party has managed to rein in Eshwarappa. Lakshman Savadi has declared war on the BJP and will most likely join the Congress. Jagadish Shettar is waiting for his ticket in the third list and he is claiming that he will talk after getting some clarity. The high command had summoned him to Delhi and managed to contain him.
The party has taken a major decision to check the anti-incumbency factor in the coastal Karnataka districts. It is fielding six new faces in place of the sitting MLAs. Six-time MLA and minister S. Angara has resigned from the primary membership of the BJP following the development. Veteran BJP leader Halady Srinivasa Shetty had also announced his retirement.
The BJP is presently facing a rebellion in more than 20 constituencies. BJP sitting MLA from Udupi constituency Raghupathy Bhat who missed the ticket stated that he came to know about the denial of a ticket from the media. This was not the way to treat a senior leader like him, he added.
Former minister Goolihatti Shekar, sitting MLA from Belagavi North Anil Benake, former minister Sogadu Shivanna, MLC R. Shankar who were denied tickets have given clear hints of joining hands with the opposition parties. The party has also not announced a ticket for former minister and senior BJP leader S. Ramdas from Mysuru district.
Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai, who is touring the state, has stated that according to him the BJP would win 150 seats in Karnataka. Tejasvi Surya, Bengaluru South MP and BJP Yuva Morcha national president, has stated that the BJP is the only party to groom party workers into leaders. Stalwarts such as Yediyurappa and Halady Srinivasa Shetty have set standards to accommodate future candidates and it shows how different the BJP is when compared to other parties.
Tejasvi Surya has also stated that the BJP has given prominence to new faces. It is to be seen how the BJP’s experiment will work for the party in the assembly elections.

China wages price war on Musk’s SpaceX reusable rockets

Beijing: China has announced a price war on Elon Musk-run SpaceX, with doubling down on reusable rockets as part of its new aerospace programme.
A new aerospace launching system is under development in China that requires cutting the cargo cost per kilogram to 5 per cent to that of the existing Long March rockets, reports South China Morning Post.
“The Long-Range Aerospace Transportation System, being built at the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), the nation’s largest aerospace defence contractor, can carry more than 60 tonnes of cargo to near-Earth orbit – about the same capacity as SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket,” the report mentioned.

The hypersonic space plane could deliver the same payload from Shanghai to an airport in San Francisco in less than an hour.
According to project lead scientist Song Zhengyu of the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, space authorities require the plane to be reused more than 100 times and have fewer than three failures per 1,000 flights.
In recent years, SpaceX has also cut its launch cost to about the same as that of the Long March rockets.
China also plans to launch nearly 13,000 internet satellites to counter SpaceX’s Starlink.
Meanwhile, China recently carried out a successful rocket vertical landing test at sea.

The technology would lay the foundation for future applications including a recyclable near-space experiment platform as well as the development of space travel, reports state-run Global Times.
CAS Space, a commercial spaceflight firm that is partly owned by CAS, revealed that it successfully carried out the launching-from-land and landing-at-sea flight trial in Haiyang, East China’s Shandong Province.
“The rocket prototype flew at an altitude of more than 1,000 metres, descended in a smooth hovering fashion and then decelerated thanks to the engine reverse thrust,” the report mentioned.

Adani Total, Torrent Gas reduce CNG, PNG price after Centre revises pricing guidelines

Ahmedabad: In a respite to lakhs of domestic gas and CNG vehicle owners, Adani Total Gas Ltd and Torrent Gas reduced CNG and PNG prices following the Centre’s decision to revise the domestic natural gas pricing guidelines.
Adani Total reduced CNG and PNG prices to up to Rs 8.13 per kg and Rs 5.06 per scm (standard cubic metre), respectively.
It also announced a reduction in PNG prices for industrial and commercial consumers by Rs 3 per scm, ATGL said in a statement.

Similarly, Torrent Gas, which provides CNG and PNG in 34 districts across the country, announced a reduction between Rs 4-5 per scm in the price of domestic PNG and between Rs 6-8.25 per kg in the retail price of CNG effective from today evening, it said in a statement.
“In line with our policy to prioritize our end consumers, ATGL has decided to pass through the benefit of the New Gas Pricing guidelines announced by the Government of India to our large numbers of Home PNG and CNG consumers,” the ATGL said.
“The GoI’s decision to revise the domestic natural gas pricing guidelines and the consequent reduction in PNG and CNG prices will bring significant respite to millions of households and CNG vehicle owners,” Torrent Gas said.
