How I united the Indian politicians

In 2015 a Muslim Mohd Ikhlaq was lynched in a village near Dadri, Gautam Buddhanagar district, UP by a mob for allegedly eating beef.

    images 42 1

In this connection a panel discussion was organised by the well known TV journalist Barkha Dutt on NDTV channel, to which I was also invited.

Among other participants in the panel discussion were 4 politicians, namely Sanjeev Balyan and Sudhanshu Mittal of the BJP, Naved Siddiqui of the Samajwadi Party, and one member of the Congress.

These politicians were asked to speak first, and they started shouting and quarreling with each other angrily.

Later, when I was asked to speak, I said ” Barkha, this country is passing through very bad times. All our politicians of all parties are a set of rogues and rascals, who should have been hanged a long time back ”.

The moment I said this it united the politicians, who were till now at loggerheads.

Barkha said I was doing loose talk, and added how could I say that politicians should be hanged when the Supreme Court had said that death penalty should only be given in ‘rarest of rare’ cases ?

I replied that these politicians polarise society and incite caste and religious hatred for securing their vote banks, even if the country goes to hell. They have no genuine love for the country. So don’t they deserve to be hanged ?

Sanjeev Balyan interrupted me when I was speaking ( though I had never interrupted him when he was speaking ), and called me an idiot,

Naved Siddique said I was giving a ‘Talibani haq’, and asked me how could I say what I said ?

I replied that I said it because it was because you politicians incite hatred and make people fight with each other on the basis of caste and religion. You only care for your vote banks, even if the country goes to ‘jahannum’ ( hell ), and I repeated that you politicians have no real love for the people.

Later, Naved Siddique said that I have called politicians idiots. I replied that you are not idiots. you are very cunning people, the reverse of idiots. For your vote banks you can take the country to hell.

At the end Sudhanshu Mittal called me a criminal because I ate beef, and waved some paper. I would have liked to tell him that I eat beef only where legally permitted, e.g. in Kerala, Goa, the north east or in USA, but I thought it better to remain silent in the heated atmosphere.

The interesting and somewhat amusing thing in this episode was that these crooks ( our politicians ), who are otherwise often quarrelling with each other, quickly unite when faced with a frontal attack on their whole gang.

  • Rahul Gandhi’s speech in the Indian Parliament

Rahul Gandhi’s speech in the Indian Parliament

Rahul Gandhi”s recent speech in the Lok Sabha during the no confidence motion proceedings on Manipur is being hailed by some as historical, as if it were a speech of Demosthenes, Cicero, Daniel Webster, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill.or Martin Luther King Junior

In his speech Rahul talked a lot about his Bharat Jodo Yatra ( march to unite India ), which was really irrelevant since the no confidence motion pertained only to Manipur. I have earlier written about this Yatra and called it a gimmick.

Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra is just a stunt and gimmick: Justice Katju

The truth about the Bharat Jodo Yatra

Rahul then launched a furious and vociferous diatribe against the BJP Govt, accusing it of murdering India, and denouncing Prime Minister Modi as a traitor, a Ravan ( the demon king of Lanka whom Lord Ram killed ), who burnt his own kingdom by his ahankaar ( conceit ), and one who has thrown kerosene throughout India.

The motion of no confidence related to events in the state of Manipur, so instead of devoting most of his time speaking on his Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi should have utilised it in giving hard facts and figures relating to the Manipur ethnic violence. He should have spoken on how the Meitei-Kuki conflict originated, how it developed, what is the situation at present,. and how it can be resolved.

But instead what Rahul Gandhi did can only be described as grandstanding. He first indulged in self praise, mentioning how he walked from Kanyakumari in the south to Kashmir in the north, despite acute pain in his knee and enduring other hardships. He then said that India was a voice ( whatever that meant ) for which he was prepared to give his life. Finally, he launched his diatribe against Modi. And having ended his speech he immediately walked out, like Pontius Pilate who said ” What is truth ? ” and would not wait for a reply.

What was Rahul Gandhi’s real purpose in giving this speech ? One can only speculate, but these points occur to me :
    (1) Rahul’s aim is to become the leader of the Opposition, not just a mere member of the Opposition alliance called INDIA ( which has recently been formed ), so that he can later become the next Prime Minister of India
    (2) He wants the Muslim vote bank, which is particularly large in north India, and he wants it desparately in the forthcoming 2024 parliamentary elections.

I am no supporter of the BJP ( in fact I have often strongly criticised it for its communal politics ), but Rahul Gandhi seems to me to be an empty headed spoilt brat, who has no idea how to solve India’s massive socio-economic problems, but in whose head has been instilled the idea that he is the legitimate and rightful claimant to the throne of India as he belongs to the ruling dynasty.

Justice Markandey Katju: On Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the United States

He reminds me of that other clown, The Young Pretender, Bonnie Prince Charlie, and I am inclined to believe he will have a similar fate as that other buffoon.

‘Not worried..’, says Sudha Murthy on Karnataka communal politics

Bengaluru: As Karnataka votes for its next government, Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, author and philanthropist Sudha Murthy, when asked about communal politics taking center stage in the state, responded she has no idea.

“I am not a politically savvy person. I do not belong to a political family. I really don’t worry about those things. I think it is my duty as a citizen to cast my vote. And I have done whatever I feel right,” she told reporters.

Her 76-year-old husband and Infosys co-founder Narayan Murthy voted at the BES Evening College of Arts & Commerce at Jayanagar, Bengaluru on Wednesday.

    MS Education Academy

“If you want to bring changes in democracy, or if you want to elect the right leader, you should vote. Don’t ask who you are voting for, or why you are voting. Everyone has their own opinion and everyone should vote,” she added.

Narayan Murthy said those who do not vote have no right to criticise. He said he hoped that the voting would produce a better future.

“We all hope that the poorest guy in the remotest village in India has access to basic education, decent healthcare, decent nutrition, and hope that that child’s grandchildren will have a better future than that child,” Narayan Murthy said while adding, “If there are no voters, then it is not a democracy.”

“You should respect voting and you should exercise your power in case if you want to change, implement or continue, you want your projects to be implemented,” Sudha Murthy said.

Congress Karnataka poll manifesto a document of appeasement politics: Assam CM

    [ad_1]

Mangaluru: The Congress manifesto for the May 10 assembly elections in Karnataka has exposed the party’s mindset and its hatred for the majority community, culture and dharma of the country, BJP leader and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.

Addressing reporters here, Sarma said the manifesto is a document of appeasement politics. The party had always followed the policy of appeasement and the previous Siddaramaiah government in the State had withdrawn several cases registered against activists of the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI).

He said the PFI ban has been a success in Assam, where numerous activists of the anti-national movement were arrested.

    MS Education Academy

The Congress is now equating PFI with Bajrang Dal which should be deplored, he said. The Bajrang Dal cannot in any way described as an anti-national or extremist outfit, he said.

Sarma said the people of Karnataka who are leaders in IT, biotechnology and agriculture do not need a guarantee from the Congress. “How can Rahul Gandhi, who himself has no guarantee in politics, provide guarantee to the people of Karnataka,” he asked.

The Assam Chief Minister said the BJP is extending welfare schemes to all sections of people irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Even B R Ambedkar had opposed reservation on religious lines, he said.

  • There should be no politics over terrorism: Ghulam Nabi Azad

There should be no politics over terrorism: Ghulam Nabi Azad

    [ad_1]

Jammu: DPAP chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday said there should be no politics over terrorism and that terror in any part of the world is not in the interest of public.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister also credited the BJP-led Centre for bringing peace to the region, but said several things like the abrogation of Article 370 and reconstituting Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories should not have been done.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a party event here, Azad said, “Terrorism in any part of the world, including Jammu and Kashmir, is not in the interest of the public. It is the public which suffers huge losses and are forced into poverty and illiteracy. Before terrorism, J&K was a prime destination of tourists from around the globe.”

    MS Education Academy

He said tourism has revived over the past two years as peace is beneficial to everyone. “There should be no politics over terrorism,” he underlined.

The Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) leader also credited the Centre for “ending the culture of strikes and stone-pelting” in the Union territory (UT).

On the growing terror incidents in Rajouri and Poonch district of Jammu region where 26 security personnel and nine civilians were killed in eight terror attacks since October 2021, he said it is a cause of concern for the entire country, people and the border state.

“Three major incidents took place this year in the Rajouri-Poonch belt, consuming innocent lives. Such incidents should not have happened,” he said, adding that people should join hands with security agencies to root out terrorism from the region.

Azad also reiterated his demand for holding of early assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and said an elected government is much better than the Lt Governor administration as members of the legislative assembly in 90 constituencies can help address the problems of the people in a better way.

PTR audio issue: Stalin refutes to wade into ‘cheap politics’

    [ad_1]

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday dismissed as “cheap politics” the PTR audio files, in which the state finance minister is purported to have made some remarks about the assets of the DMK’s first family.

In his first response to the issue, Stalin, president of the ruling DMK, said Palanivel Thiaga Rajan (PTR) has already responded to the matter twice.

“He (PTR) himself has given two detailed explanations on this matter. I have time only to do my duty for people. I do not want to talk anything further on this and give publicity to those indulging in cheap politics,” Stalin said in his regular “Ungalil Oruvan” question and answer series.

    MS Education Academy

In two audio clips released by state BJP chief K Annamalai, PTR is purported to have made some remarks about Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi and son-in-law V Sabareesan, which the finance minister has categorically denied.

He had insisted that they were digitally altered material using advanced technology.

To a question on Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks in Telangana that Muslim reservation will be done away with if the party came to power there, the DMK chief said it showed “a grudge on minorities.”

“He has spoken so for electoral gains. The BJP leadership has an imagination that only spewing hatred on Muslims will satisfy Hindus. It is not true. The majority of our electorate that did not vote for BJP are actually Hindus. They wish for peace and brotherhood. The BJP attempts to impose its hate agenda on some sections and project it as the sentiments of the majority,” he alleged.

He charged the BJP’s “social media troll army accounts” act as the propaganda machine to spread lies and fake news and also claimed certain media organisations “have turned to be the mouthpiece of ” the saffron party.

“The BJP pushes its hate politics with the help of such factors. In a country that has secularism in the preamble of its Constitution, the home minister speaking like this is a breach of Constitution. People are watching everything,” he added.

  • Meet 5 AAPI power players shaping politics and policy in America

Meet 5 AAPI power players shaping politics and policy in America

    [ad_1]

We featured them in March in our annual Power List of 40 people with undeniable sway over key policy battles — from abortion to environmental justice to elections to tense negotiations with geo-political foes.

    Kamala Harris

Selected on The Recast Power List for leading the White House’s abortion access fight during the midterm elections, the vice president herself pushed the administration to keep talking about the abortion issue, arguing it was an issue of personal freedom and would resonate with voters of any gender.

With Biden announcing his reelection bid last week, look for Harris to play a prominent role, making the case why voters should give the Biden-Harris administration four more years.

    Diana Hwang

Hwang is nothing short of a change agent. Years ago she founded an incubator program aiming to identify and elevate progressive AAPI women in political leadership. In the past year she upped her game, with the Asian American Women’s Political Initiative creating a fellowship program focusing on giving women up to $10,000 for civic impact projects.

With upcoming elections next year and a growing AAPI influence in politics, we predict you’ll be hearing much more about her in the years to come.

    Kimberly Yee

Nothing beats a politician that can connect with their voters. Yee demonstrated this like no other Arizona Republican could last cycle. In a year featuring election deniers like Kari Lake and Blake Masters sharing the same ticket — and losing their respective races – Yee won the race for state treasurer, easily. She attributed it to her campaign’s focus on not getting distracted by “side issues.”

Yee is now one of the few Asian American women to hold statewide office in the nation. Expect her profile to grow among National Republicans in the coming year.

    Todd Kim

If you care about making polluters pay, then Kim is the one you call. Taking companies to court and compelling them to pay to limit toxic chemicals being spewed into the air and filing complaints in cities like Jackson for violating safe drinking water rules for their residents – that’s all part of Kim’s jam.

Keep an eye out for the DOJ attorney as he continues this fight — environmental justice is a key pillar of the Biden administration’s platform.

    Lindsay Kagawa Colas

Paired on our list with Cherelle Griner, the wife of formally-detained WNBA star Brittney Griner, Colas played a pivotal role in helping secure the hooper’s release from a Russian prison. Colas used her bullhorn to highlight why Griner was in Russia to begin with: the huge pay disparity between WNBA stars and those in the NBA.

Look for Colas, who serves as Griner’s agent, to assist Griner as she navigates her way back to the court while advocating for other Americans detained in Russia.

  • There’s no politics in ‘Mann Ki Baat’, abusing PM Modi part of Cong DNA: Sitharaman

There’s no politics in ‘Mann Ki Baat’, abusing PM Modi part of Cong DNA: Sitharaman

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke like a “pradhan sevak” during the 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ and there is no politics in the radio broadcast, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Sunday, countering the Congress’ criticism of the programme.

Now if the Congress is “obsessed” with talking about the agenda set by its first family, it’s up to the party, she said.

Earlier in the day, the Congress took a swipe at Modi over his 100th ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio broadcast, saying there was much fanfare in the run-up to the episode but it was “maun ki baat (silence)” on critical issues such as the border dispute with China, stock manipulation allegations against the Adani Group, “increasing” economic inequalities and the wrestlers’ protest.

    MS Education Academy

Hitting back, Sitharaman said, “He (Modi) talks about everything. Now if the Congress is obsessed with talking about the agenda that the first family of the party sets, it’s up to the party.”

“There is no politics in Mann Ki Baat… There is positivity in the spirit of Mann ki Baat,” the finance minister told reporters after listening to the radio broadcast with BJP leaders and others in Preet Vihar here.

In the 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Sitharaman said, Modi spoke to the people like a ‘pradhan sevak’ and not a prime minister, and the common people also spoke confidently about the core issues.

“So, I am very much impacted, inspired and feeling humbled,” she said.

“Such a pradhan sevak is leading our country despite problems that arose due to the spread of COVID-19 in 2020 and the Russia-Ukraine (conflict) later. All of us are safe under his leadership and India is the fastest growing economy today,” the minister added.

On Congress leaders calling Modi names, Sitharaman said “abusing” the prime minister is “part of the Congress DNA”.

“But they never seem to realise that every time they abuse Prime Minister Modi, people recognise him much more for his positive and constructive work in building India. It doesn’t benefit them in any way or win them any brownie points but they still want to do it because they are full of hate,” she said.

“Despite Rahul Gandhi going around setting up ‘mohabbat ka dukan’, his own party’s president is spewing venom. He is talking about a poisonous snake. So, you understand where Rahul is going and where his party is. Rahul is talking about something that his party doesn’t believe in,” she added.

It is the “nature” of the Congress to abuse those it cannot defeat but people’s support is with Prime Minister Modi.

“The more they accuse the prime minister, the more people will bless him,” she added.

Through ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Sitharaman said, the prime minister has brought out the good in Indian citizens.

PM Modi slams Congress, JD-S over ‘family politics’

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Criticising the Congress and the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) over “family politics”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday termed JD-S a “private limited party” and a “B-team” of the Congress.

PM Modi addressed two massive rallies at Channapatna in Ramnagar district and Belur in Hassan district — both considered strongholds of the JD-S.

Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda hails from Hassan district. His son and former Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy is contesting the May 10 Assembly elections from Channapatna.

    MS Education Academy

Addressing the people, PM Modi dubbed the JD-S a “private limited party”. “The JD-S of Karnataka exists only for a family. It is a party of family politics,” he said.

Also slamming the Congress, PM Modi said “one family based in Delhi decides on the allotment of tickets, and everything else”.

“One who is loyal to the family will be made the CM. Congress party leaders are indulged in worshipping one family. But the BJP considers each party worker as its family. During Covid, it has given free vaccination for everyone. It is giving free rice for the poor. The party has built crores of houses for the people,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister further said that in the Congress-ruled states, “the bitter war for power is on”.

“In 2018, both Congress and JD-S were up against each other. But after the results, they joined hands. Every vote cast for the JD-S will go to Congress. The development is never possible through the JD-S and Congress

“This time, the voters of Karnataka have taken a decision. The Congress and JD-S would be taught a lesson. JD-S is Congress’ B-team,” he said, adding: “JD-S agrees with everything that Congress says. Hence, the double-engine government should come to power in Karnataka.”

PM Modi also said that the Congress has ruined the traditional puppet industry.

“I spoke about the famous Channapatna puppets and gave a call to purchase them in Mann Ki Baat. Today, they are exported and there is a huge revenue,” he said.
