Limit to even transparency in ‘New India’: Cong on PM’s degree case

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Friday took a swipe at the government, saying there is a limit to even transparency in ‘New India’, after the Gujarat High Court set aside an order of the Central Information Commission asking the Gujarat University to provide information on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree.

The high court set aside the seven-year-old order of the commission, asking the varsity to provide information on prime minister’s degree to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Allowing the Gujarat University’s appeal against the Central Information Commission (CIC) order, Justice Biren Vaishnav also imposed a cost of Rs 25,000 on Kejriwal and asked him to deposit the amount within four weeks to the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA).

Reacting to the verdict, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh in a tweet in Hindi said, “There is a limit to even transparency in New India. This is what the ‘Entire Political Science’ teaches.”

Asked about the issue at a press conference, Congress’ media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said, “See, why this matter went to the court. Courts have lot of pressure… PM’s educational qualification, whether his degree is genuine or not, this matter going to a court is astonishing.”

“It’s a matter of paradox in India, in a country where four crore cases are pending in courts, a hearing is happening on the prime minister’s degree. So, why this situation came up, we need to understand. ‘Entire Political Science’, I haven’t heard of it, if you have heard about it, please tell me,” Khera told reporters in response to a query.

“Even if today such a degree is offered then, I would like to take it,” he said.

  • BJP to distribute PM’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ in Urdu among UP madrasas

BJP to distribute PM’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ in Urdu among UP madrasas

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: With an eye on the 2024 general election, the BJP will distribute a compilation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio address ‘Mann ki Baat’ translated into Urdu among madrasas and Islamic scholars in Uttar Pradesh in a bid to woo Muslims.

Uttar Pradesh BJP Minority Morcha President Kunwar Basit Ali has compiled 12 episodes of the prime minister’s radio programme for the year 2022.

“Twelve episodes of Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme have been translated into Urdu and will be published as a book. Episodes from January to December 2022 have been included in this. It has been compiled by me and translated by Tabish Farid of Meerut,” Ali told PTI.

“It is expected that the book will be ready and printed during Ramzan. The target is to take this book to one lakh people,” he added.

The book is also set to include congratulatory messages from heads of Islamic educational institutions such as Darul Uloom Deoband and Nadwatul Ulema.

“The book will not be available for sale. It will be distributed as a gift in Muslim-dominated areas of Uttar Pradesh. Workers of the BJP’s state minority cell take this book as a gift to prominent madrasas, Islamic scholars, Urdu teachers and ulemas,” he said.

Ali said the purpose of the exercise is to spread the prime minister’s messages among the Muslim community.

“At many times it happens that the people of the Muslim community are unable to listen to the prime minister’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ which always has a deep message hidden for the betterment of the society,” he said.

In the radio programme, the prime minister often mentions various schemes and initiatives of the government as well as people who have made outstanding contributions in the social sector, Ali said.

“The purpose of publishing this book is that the Muslim community should also be benefitted and be inspired by the messages of the prime minister.”

After organizing conferences to connect Pasmanda Muslims, the BJP is preparing for ‘Sneh Milan – One Country, One DNA’ conferences in the Muslim-dominated Lok Sabha constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh in April.

  • Israeli PM’s wife Sara Netanyahu’s beseiged on hair salon visit

Israeli PM’s wife Sara Netanyahu’s beseiged on hair salon visit

    [ad_1]

Dozens of Israeli protesters besieged a hair salon in the center of Tel Aviv after they discovered that Sarah Netanyahu, the wife of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was inside it.

The videos circulated on social media platforms show the protesters who surrounded the hair salon chanting, “The country is burning while Sarah is cutting her hair,” and “a shameful thing.”

Others chanted, “May your hair ends burn,” a tongue-in-cheek reference to the far-right refrain to Arabs, “May your village burn down.”

Videos on social media showed hundreds of people outside the building, screaming and blowing horns.

Commenting on the besieging of his wife, Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted, “The anarchist activists led by (opposition leader and former prime minister Yair) Lapid continue to cross the red lines. They are currently harassing and threatening my wife in Tel Aviv.”

He added, “I call on Lapid and the opposition to stop this immediately and condemn this heinous and unprecedented act.”

On the other hand, Yair Lapid tweeted, “Calls on the demonstrators in the State Square to allow Sara Netanyahu to leave her home. Your struggle and ours is against the regime coup and the destruction of democracy.”

The head of the National Unity Party, Benny Gantz, called on the protesters in front of the salon to let Netanyahu go home.

“I call on the protesters in Madinah Square – let the Prime Minister’s wife return to her home and you continue to wave the flags and voice our righteous cry,” he wrote on Twitter. “We will continue to act together, in a variety of legal ways, to stop the coup d’état.”

Hundreds of police officers were called to the scene — including a number on horseback — and escorted Sara Netanyahu after three hours out of the salon and into an SUV.

Later on Thursday, Netanyahu posted a second tweet, attaching a picture of him embracing his wife, and captioned, “My beloved wife Sarah, glad you are back home safely and unharmed.”

“The terrible incident that occurred yesterday could have ended in murder. The time has come to stop the anarchy,” Sara Netanyahu wrote on Instagram, while expressing thanks to her supporters.

“The time has come for opposition leaders to denounce the violence, anarchy and incitement,” she added.

  • Palestine condemns Israeli PM’s visit to West Bank settlement

Palestine condemns Israeli PM’s visit to West Bank settlement

    [ad_1]

Ramallah: Palestine has condemned the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the Israeli settlement of Har Brakha near the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry on Thursday said in a press statement that “the provocative visit of Netanyahu into the West Bank and the hostile statements and stances he made are rejected and condemned”.

A statement issued by Netanyahu’s office said that he and his wife Sara arrived in the settlement to condole the family of the two Israelis who were killed in a shooting attack carried out by Palestinians in the town of Hawara, south of Nablus on Sunday.

On Sunday, a Palestinian gunman opened fire at a vehicle of two Israelis in Hawara and killed them. In response, Israeli settlers attacked the town and burned dozens of cars and homes, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry added, “Netanyahu’s visit has no legitimate or legal characteristic, contrary to the rules of international law, UN resolutions, and the signed agreements.”

It said that “the visit reveals the true face of the Israeli government and its Prime Minister, who leads a government of settlements and settlers and sabotages the opportunity to revive the peace process”.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s visit comes amid tensions between the Palestinians and Israelis since January 1.

Israel took control of the West Bank in 1967 and established dozens of settlements on it. The settlement issue is one of the most prominent aspects of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and one of the main reasons for suspending the last direct peace negotiations between the two sides in 2014.

  • BJP to protest against Congress after Pawan Khera mis-spells PM’s name

BJP to protest against Congress after Pawan Khera mis-spells PM’s name

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: After senior Congress leader and party spokesperson Pawan Khera could not spell Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name, the BJP has termed it as a “insult to the Prime Minister and his father”.

The BJP has planned a protest on Tuesday at 10 Janpath.

Khera while addressing a press conference could not spell properly the PM’s name but later clarified that he got confused. But now a complaint has been filed in Lucknow and the BJP will protest against him.

Congress Media department chairman Pawan Khera said, “We also have governments in some states, some of the governments are going to be formed in states and the season is changing… 2024 is also approaching.”

“I want to give one suggestion to ED officers, who have become tools in the hands of the government, that time changes fast.”

Warning the officials and the BJP, Khera said, “We have governments in states… we can also do something, but our decency should be considered as ornaments not weakness.”

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that party will not be cowed down by these tactics and the plenary will go on as per schedule.

Three days ahead of Congress plenary session in Raipur, the Enforcement Directorate on Monday was conducting raids at multiple locations across Chhattisgarh in connection with the coal mining case.
