  • Kashmiri bat manufacturing company to provide platform to talented players to reach international level

    [ad_1]

    Jahangeer Ganaie

Anantnag, Feb 24: For the very first time, a known cricket manufacturing company from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district has taken an initiative to provide a platform to talented cricketers of Kashmir to reach international level.

Gr8 Sports, a bat manufacturing company from Halmulla Anantnag, has signed MoU with various international cricket boards and leagues to vanguard the talent from Kashmir.

Owner of the company Fawzul Kabiir while talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that he has witnessed that cricket players in Kashmir are very much talented but they lack the platform to reach to the mega stages.

“We have taken up initiative to provide them a platform so that they get an opportunity to reach to international level and prove their mettle,” he said.

Any professional cricketer below 36 years of age can make videos of his signature shots and upload them while tagging Gr8 Sports on social media, he said, adding that every video of batting, bowling or wicket keeping will be analyzed by experts and management companies and shortlist players.

Kabiir said that every year shortlisted players will undergo trials before selection committee members of international cricket boards and International league franchisees, who will select them for different leagues.

“Every year around 100 batsmen, 100 bowlers and around 50 wicket keepers will be shortlisted who will have to undergo trials and can reach international level as selection will be done on spot in Kashmir,” he said.

“Our aim behind this initiative is just to promote local talent and we have signed MoU with at least 10 cricket playing nations and if our players will be able to showcase talent, they can reach international leagues like Carabian League, BPL,” he added.

Let players play their normal cricket and make videos and upload them while tagging us and Mobica-our talent management company will access and on that basis screening will be done and players will be shortlisted.

After shortlisting, international coaches of franchises and international boards will be brought here one by one and will select players from shortlists on the basis of data base uploaded and trials, he said.

He said that even children have exposure to leather ball cricket and he is hopeful that local cricket players will be able to showcase their talent anywhere in the world.

“It will be a big opportunity for talented youth to make their career besides that it will help in keeping youth away from social evils and generate income as well,” he said.

When asked why he is sponsoring players, he said that mostly sponsored players are being used as advertising agents only and they don’t get proper opportunity as we want to make stars not marketing agents.

“The Company has also decided to start a monthly show that will be live on social media platforms where queries of players will be answered besides that international players will guide talented players as well,” he said.

“We want to provide talented players every opportunity to groom them into stars and this program will be started from March 2023,” he said.

  • Twitter becomes first major social platform to allow weed ads

Twitter becomes first major social platform to allow weed ads

To advertise on Twitter, cannabis companies must be pre-authorized by Twitter and meet many requirements. Perhaps the most significant restriction is that cannabis companies can’t promote or offer for sale cannabis products.

Among the other requirements cannabis companies must adhere to:

    • Be licensed by the “appropriate authorities”
    • Only target ads to areas where they are licensed to promote products or services online
    • Not target those under 21
    • Assume all legal responsibility for complying with applicable laws and regulations

Cannabis advertisements also can’t appeal to minors, make any health claims or show any depictions of cannabis use.
Even with this change in Twitter policy, some cannabis companies won’t be able to take advantage of the platform for advertising due to state laws restricting online cannabis advertising.

Adcann first reported the change to Twitter’s advertising rules.

    Courting cannabis companies

Beyond simply allowing cannabis advertising, Twitter is actively wooing the industry.

Many advertising platforms require minimum buys of $5,000 to $10,000 to get started. But Twitter is not setting any minimum for cannabis companies, explained Deneson.

Twitter is also offering a one-to-one match of every advertising dollar from cannabis companies until the end of March.

So if a cannabis company runs a $50 campaign on the platform, it effectively amounts to a $100 campaign.

“That’s one of the most generous things that an advertiser and publisher relationship can kick off with,” Deneson said, who hopes that advertising dollars from the industry could become a great revenue stream for Twitter.

    Wary of weed

Mainstream advertising platforms have been reluctant to serve a federally illegal industry, in part due to concerns about existing advertisers not wanting to be positioned next to cannabis ads. But they’re also concerned about how to validate whether a potential advertiser is a licensed business.

The change in Twitter’s policy is so new that it’s unclear how long it will take for a cannabis brand to get through the validation process.

Because Twitter’s incentive program lasts until the end of March, Deneson expects the platform will be “accelerating this review process as quickly as possible.”

Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment for more details.

However, the company will have to invest resources into reviewing whether cannabis ads meet its own guidelines, which can be difficult to nail down. For example, what exactly makes an ad appealing to minors?

“There’s going to be a human element in this decision making,” Deneson said.

EU to launch platform to fight Russian, Chinese disinformation

    200527 josep borrell gty 773

The European Union will launch a new platform to counter disinformation campaigns by Russia and China amid growing worries, EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said today.

A so-called Information Sharing and Analysis Center within the EU’s foreign services —the European External Action Service (EEAS) — will seek to track information manipulation by foreign actors and coordinate with the 27 EU countries and the wider community of NGOs.

“We need to understand how these disinformation campaigns are organized … to identify the actors of the manipulation,” said Borrell.

One EEAS official said it would be a decentralized platform to exchange information in real-time with NGOs, countries and cybersecurity agencies, enabling better understanding of emerging disinformation threats and narratives and quicker action to tackle such problems.

Almost a year after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the EU continues to fend off Russian attempts to manipulate and distort information about the war. Kremlin-led propaganda seeking to blame the EU for a global food crisis due to its sanctions has also spread to countries in Africa and the Middle East.

Borrell also warned of a “new wave” of disinformation of fabricated images, videos and websites posing as media outlets spreading “five times the speed of light across social networks and messaging services.”

The EU’s existing disinformation unit, the Stratcom division, in a first-ever report, noted that most of the foreign information manipulation in 2022 had centered on narratives supporting the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russian and Chinese diplomatic channels were particularly involved.

Political rallies provide platform to interact with people, says CPI (M)

    [ad_1]

Visakhapatnam: Communist Party of India (M) politburo member B V Raghavulu on Saturday said the government orderbrought by the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress (YSRC) government is an attempt to thwart opposition parties.

Raghavulu, while speaking to reporters, accused the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government of snatching the rights of parties by bringing old government orders with new names.

The order comes in the wake of a stampede at a rally earlier this month organised by the main opposition Telugu Desam Party at Kandukuru in which eight people were killed. The prohibitory order was issued later in the month under the provisions of the Police Act, of 1861.

“It provides a platform to meet people directly to address their public issues,” Raghavulu said.

“The padayatra trend has been running in Andhra Pradesh. We express our solidarity with the Yatra taken by political parties under the auspices of Special Status Sadhana Samiti,” he added.

The YSR Congress government has prohibited public meetings and rallies from being held on roads, including national highways, citing public safety.

He also said “those” who are taking padayatra in democracy should be welcomed.

Notably, Rayalaseema Saaguneeti Sadhana Samiti (RSSS), in 2019, launched a 100-km-long padayatra from Nandyal town to demand a rightful share of water for backward regions in the state.

Earlier in the month, S Vishnuvardhan Reddy, the Bharatiya Janata Party BJP General Secretary in the state criticised the Andhra Pradesh government for its strange decision of banning public meetings on roads and said the political parties have the right to hold rallies.

Raghavulu accused the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government of taking away the rights of Sarpanches in the state.

“It is foolish of him to mock democracy and bring village swaraj. Village Panchayats should be given rights and funds,” he added.

He added that the state government should be pressured to withdraw the privatization proposal” of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

aptopix election 2022 florida governor 38551

Now Ward is creating fresh controversy in the state’s medical community after appearing alongside Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis at several events, where Ward rejected Covid-19 vaccines and most pandemic-era mitigation efforts.

Ward’s views are aligned with DeSantis’ on Covid. The Florida governor has built a national reputation by rejecting Covid-19 mandates such as masking students and vaccinating children. DeSantis’ surgeon general, Joe Ladapo, has also come under fire from the medical community for questioning vaccine safety and warning men against taking the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna Covid-19 vaccine.

DeSantis is using his opposition to Covid-19 restrictions and advocacy of medical “free speech” as a central pillar of his messaging strategy, and the issue is likely to play into a possible 2024 presidential run. The Republican has turned to Ward on several occasions as a validator of his positions.

Ward doesn’t hold any official position within DeSantis’ administration and does not advise the governor in an official capacity. DeSantis in March, however, appointed Ward to the Northwest Florida State College District Board of Trustees – a non-medical position.

DeSantis during a March press conference introduced the doctor as “one of the engines behind” the movement to allow doctors to speak freely without being reprimanded by medical regulators for controversial views.

“Politics has always been in medicine, no question, but the pandemic really exacerbated those issues,” said Marianne Udow-Phillips, founding executive director of the Center for Health and Research Transformation at the University of Michigan and a lecturer at UM’s school of public health. “The profession is deeply examining the issue,” she said. “There is tremendous worry. There is no question the profession is rethinking the issue, and taking a closer look at how misinformation spreads.”

Some universities are starting to include communications as an element of medical school curriculum, an area public health hasn’t prioritized in the past.

“There is tremendous worry,” Udow-Phillips said. “There is no question the profession is rethinking the issue, and taking a closer look at how misinformation spreads.”

Ward’s emergence as a central figure in DeSantis’ Covid-19 events has given rise to concern among many in Florida’s medical community, some members of which think Ward is, at best, misguided and, at worst, a dangerous font of misinformation. In interviews with POLITICO, nine members of the association expressed concern that Ward had been given a statewide platform. Each was granted anonymity because the FMA has a policy of its members not criticizing other members publicly.

Members of the group are leery about angering DeSantis, whom the organization endorsed for reelection in 2022. But some doctors said privately they are worried the governor is elevating a “fringe” perspective in the medical community.

Ward — and other medical professionals who are skeptical of vaccines and other protections like masks — says he simply wants to express his views without fear of reprisal. He also does not claim to be an expert on public health, a criticism frequently raised by critics who are concerned the governor is amplifying the views of a dermatologist without training in pandemic response.

“I am an advocate for free speech among medical professionals in public policy debate and with patients,” Ward said in a statement to POLITICO. “That is the only topic the governor’s office has ever asked me for my opinion or thoughts. At no time has the governor, his staff, the Surgeon General, or his staff asked me about my thoughts on any of the issues related to Covid-19, masks, lockdowns, or the shots.”

“I happen to agree with them, as do tens of thousands of physicians across this state who just re-elected Governor DeSantis, but calling me his ‘medical expert of choice’ would be a gross inaccuracy,” he said.

In a statement, DeSantis’ press secretary Bryan Griffin defended featuring Ward at the Tuesday event.

“We do not operate by popular political consensus, but by evidence,” he said. “We thank Dr. Ward for lending his time and expertise to our press conference to ensure medical freedom is preserved in Florida.”

DeSantis most recently featured Ward at a press conference last week in Panama City where he again asked lawmakers to pass a proposal making it harder to punish doctors for controversial public statements. Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently signed legislation that makes spreading medical misinformation a type of “unprofessional conduct” – the opposite of what DeSantis wants.

“Governor DeSantis supports the strongest free speech protections for physicians in America,” Ward said at the event. “I will be honored to be among the freest doctors, who take care of the freest patients, in the freest state in America.”

In 2021, Ward, on social media, encouraged parents to “train” their children to lie about their vaccine status and “game the system” by telling school officials they have already had Covid-19 to avoid quarantine if they were exposed. School officials publicly blasted the comments, which Ward later said he felt “regret” for making. DeSantis has also featured quotes from Ward in official press releases, and last summer appointed him to the board of Northwest Florida State College.

Ward, though, is not without his supporters. After POLITICO reached out to him for comment, about a half dozen FMA members reached out to POLITICO via email to defend the dermatologist.

“I have the privilege of practicing in the same community with Dr. Ward, and have shared numerous patients with him,” said Thomas Johnson, a Panama City oncologist. “He is an outstanding dermatologist, and contrary to your uninformed opinion, he is highly valued in our community, and has a great deal of support within the FMA, which is growing with time.

“Jon has been a strong voice of caution in our community and the state against this unprecedented medical tyranny regarding these COVD 19 vaccines and treatment of COVID 19,” Johnson added.

Many FMA members, however, see the free speech argument as cover to allow medical professionals like Ward to amplify politically-laced Covid-19 misinformation — even if it’s seen as far outside mainstream medical consensus.

“It is truly unfortunate that the pandemic and the vaccine have caused such a divide not only among our political parties but also within medicine,” a third FMA member said. “It has been a trying couple of years practicing medicine during this unprecedented time.”
