Riyadh: The medical team saved the life of an Indian pilgrim who suffered a cardiac arrest while performing the rituals of Umrah in the Grand Mosque of Makkah, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The ambulance teams from the Saudi Red Crescent Authority in Makkah have successfully saved a man in his sixties, who experienced severe shortness of breath, resulting in a loss of consciousness.

According to Dr Mustafa Baljoun, Director General of the Authority’s branch in Makkah, the medical command and control room received a distress call at 9:44 am on Sunday regarding a pilgrim who fainted after his heart had stopped while performing the sa’i ritual in the wheelchair tracks in the mas’a area (the area between Safa and Marwa).

The medical teams immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the pilgrim.

The patient was transferred to Ajyad General Hospital, where he was convalescing in the intensive care unit.

A similar incident occurred during the Umrah season this year.

In March, emergency rescue teams in Makkah demonstrated their expertise in dealing with medical emergencies by saving a 32-year-old Egyptian pilgrim.

The patient’s heart stopped twice, and he developed severe shortness of breath and lost consciousness for 27 minutes.

Saudi Arabia: Permits for performing Umrah to continue post Ramzan

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ministry of Hajj and Umrah confirmed that the condition for obtaining a permit to perform Umrah “continues” after the month of Ramzan.

This came in response to an inquiry on the ministry’s Twitter account, asking if an Umrah permit is still required after Ramzan.

In response, the ministry of Hajj and Umrah stated that in order to perform the rituals of Umrah, a permit must be obtained from the Nusuk or Tawakkalna platforms, provided that the applicant is not infected with or has been in contact with a person infected with the COVID-19 virus.

The ministry also indicated that pilgrims and visitors can move between Makkah and Al-Madinah and all cities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) during the period of their stay and the period of its validity.

It is worth noting that the ministry had set the tenth of Shawwal as the last date for domestic pilgrims to pay the third and final instalment of their Haj ritual reservation.

The final instalment is 40 percent of the set fee for packages approved during this pilgrimage season.

This year, the issuance of official permits will start on May 5, which is the 15th of Shawwal.

700 people injured while performing with swords, sticks on Ram Navami in Hazaribag

    [ad_1]

Hazaribag: Around 700 people were injured while playing with swords and sticks during Ram Navami celebrations in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag district, officials said on Saturday.

The Ram Navami celebrations, which began around 8 pm on Friday, concluded on Saturday night. Braving heavy rains, 91 akharas took part in the centuries-old celebrations in the town’s Boddom Bazar in the Bada Thakur Bari area, they said.

The celebrations that were marked by well-decorated tableaux touring the length and breadth of the town saw the participation of over 2 lakh people, they added.

    MS Education Academy

No untoward incident was reported during the celebrations, officials said, adding that huge number of security personnel were deployed to maintain law and order.

Fifteen medical camps were set up by the Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital (HMCH) to deal with any emergency situation, they said.

Around 700 people received minor injuries while playing with traditional weapons. Most of them were treated at the camp, while many were also sent to different hospitals, an HMCH official said.

In East Singhbhum, 27 akhara committees of Jamshedpur who could not take out the Ram Navami rallies following unrest over the restriction on loud music during celebrations, immersed their ‘jhandas’ (flags) in various ghats peacefully, an official said.

A dawn-to-dusk shutdown called by certain organisations in Haldipokhar, around 25 km from Jamshedpur, also passed off peacefully, he said.

The bandh was called demanding suspension of the circle officer of Potka, and action against those responsible for the brick-batting during Ram Navami procession, which injured at least five people.

  • Centre should incentivise performing states, says KTR

Centre should incentivise performing states, says KTR

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Industries and Information Technology Minister K. T. Rama on Tuesday alleged that the Centre is penalising the state by not supporting its growth.

Demanding that the Centre back performing states by offering them incentives, he said political affiliations should not define if a state will be supported or not.

In his address at the annual CII event on ‘Beyond India@75 – Accelerating Telangana Growth Momentum – Resilience through Competitiveness, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Sustainability’, he said: “Unless we empower states, incentivise performing states and encourage non-performing states, we will be doing a great disservice to the ambition that we have set for ourselves.”

He said while India was a democratic country, not all states are treated equally. He also observed that each state is diverse and that diversity should be respected. “Who are we to tell people what to eat, what to wear and what to speak,” he said.

KTR, as the minister is popularly known, said the Hyderabad PharmaCity, which will be the largest pharma manufacturing cluster in the world, did not receive any support from the Centre.

He said the state was also denied a bulk drugs manufacturing cluster, other manufacturing clusters, industrial corridors and others.

Even though a special incentive was promised in the AP Reorganisation Act, nothing has been given to both the Telugu States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, he said.

KTR said that while initiatives like ‘Make in India’ are good, they have not progressed much beyond slogans. The Centre should empower performing states and incentivise such states, he reiterated.

Many still feel that importing from China works out cheaper rather than making locally despite the import costs, distance and other factors, he said, adding: “We need to ask ourselves why making in China is cheaper, ask about our duty structures, about availability of raw material, about the road blocks we put for our entrepreneurs to compete with the rest of the world.”

The minister said that India would have achieved the targeted $5 trillion economy by 2022 if all Indian states grew at the same pace as Telangana.

He said Telangana has set an ambitious target of taking the lifesciences sector value to about $250 billion, more than tripling from the current $80 billion, by 2030.

He pointed out that the in 2020 the value of lifesciences sector was $50 billion and the state had set the target of doubling it by 2030 but as the value increased by $30 billion in two-and-half years, they were confident of reaching the $100 billion target by 2025.

KTR said that Hyderabad now makes 35 per cent (about nine billion doses) of all vaccines made globally. This number will increase to 50 billion (14 billion doses) by the end of next year.

Telangana also has 214 USFDA approved manufacturing facilities, the highest in the world, he said, adding that Telangana is expanding the Genome Valley and Medical Devices Park. The PharmaCity has potential to create employment opportunities for five lakh people.
