    Jahangeer Ganaie

Srinagar, Apr 03: With many aged parents being abandoned in Kashmir, the government has decided to come up with old age homes in all districts and such homes have been already started in around 7-8 districts of Kashmir.

Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that given the plight of those ageing parents who have been abandoned by their children in their own homes, old age homes are necessary in Kashmir as well.

Such abandoned elderly parents at least have someone to look after them in old-age homes, they said.

Mohammad Ashraf Akhoon, deputy director, Social Welfare department Kashmir told KNO that among 10 districts in Kashmir, old age homes have been already started in 7-8 district and it will come come up in rest of the districts as well.

There are two types of homes — daycare and residential. Daycare homes have been set up in some districts and residential in few, he said.

“As of now, he said, we have good response in day care old age homes, however, the response in residential homes is meagre as just few have come in residential old age homes yet.

Residential old age homes have just one or two admission but there are hundreds of people in daycare,” he said.

In daycare, people talk to each other besides they are provided space to share ideas with each other, he said, adding they are using library, read newspapers, tea and other recreational facilities.

“Anybody who needs shelter in these homes must contact concerned district social welfare officer,” he said.

Kashmir was not witnessing incidents of abandoning of parents before and such things were considered taboo, however, with change in behaviour such things are becoming acceptable in our society—(KNO)

“Beating up, threatening people to sign documents…” Chhattisgarh CM

    [ad_1]

Raipur: Coming down heavily on Enforcement Directorate for conducting searches at several locations in the State, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday alleged that people are being beaten up and threatened to sign documents.

“They (ED) are beating up people and pressurizing them to sign documents and threaten them(Maarpit Kar Rahe Hain… Maar Maar Kar Likhwa Rahe Hain…Dastkhat Karwa Rahe Hain),” CM Baghel alleged.

The scathing attack by Baghel comes at a time when Enforcement Directorate have been conducting searches at several locations in Raipur, including at the office belonging to Congress leader Ram Gopal Agarwal.

The Congress leader said that they raided 50 places in a month. “How much money and property were seized from it?” CM Baghel asked further.

He also questioned the Central probe agency to come clean on whether the crackdown is being done with an anti-corruption motive or political motive.

“We are against corruption and there should be a probe. But let them [ED] decide whether they are raiding for the purpose of arrest or with a political motive behind?” he told reporters here.

ED on Tuesday reportedly carried out search operations at separate locations in Raipur at the office belonging to a Congress leader Ram Gopal Agarwal at Gore Parisar under Civil Lines police station and residence of industrialist Kamal Sarda at Shankar Nagar in mining and alleged coal levy scam.

CRPF personnel remained present at both locations as the ED officials conducted raids.

He also informed that he has written to Home Minister Amit Shah aprising about the people being threatened by ED officials and had also mentioned it during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier on Tuesday Baghel took a swipe at said the Centre by saying that it seems that ED has no office in BJP-ruled states.

“Industrialists, businessmen, transporters, MLAs, officers, farmers — there is no section left which has not been raided by ED. But it seems there is no ED office in MP, UP, Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Karnataka. As long as there was Uddhav Thackeray’s Government in Maharashtra, central agencies were active there. When there was a change of Government there, the agencies became of no use there,” Baghel had said.

700 people injured while performing with swords, sticks on Ram Navami in Hazaribag

    [ad_1]

Hazaribag: Around 700 people were injured while playing with swords and sticks during Ram Navami celebrations in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag district, officials said on Saturday.

The Ram Navami celebrations, which began around 8 pm on Friday, concluded on Saturday night. Braving heavy rains, 91 akharas took part in the centuries-old celebrations in the town’s Boddom Bazar in the Bada Thakur Bari area, they said.

The celebrations that were marked by well-decorated tableaux touring the length and breadth of the town saw the participation of over 2 lakh people, they added.

    MS Education Academy

No untoward incident was reported during the celebrations, officials said, adding that huge number of security personnel were deployed to maintain law and order.

Fifteen medical camps were set up by the Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital (HMCH) to deal with any emergency situation, they said.

Around 700 people received minor injuries while playing with traditional weapons. Most of them were treated at the camp, while many were also sent to different hospitals, an HMCH official said.

In East Singhbhum, 27 akhara committees of Jamshedpur who could not take out the Ram Navami rallies following unrest over the restriction on loud music during celebrations, immersed their ‘jhandas’ (flags) in various ghats peacefully, an official said.

A dawn-to-dusk shutdown called by certain organisations in Haldipokhar, around 25 km from Jamshedpur, also passed off peacefully, he said.

The bandh was called demanding suspension of the circle officer of Potka, and action against those responsible for the brick-batting during Ram Navami procession, which injured at least five people.

  • Some people have given ‘supari’ to dent my image: PM Modi

Some people have given ‘supari’ to dent my image: PM Modi

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said some people are hellbent to sully his image and they have given a “supari” (contract) for this purpose colluding with certain people sitting in India and also outside the country.

Modi’s veiled attack on Congress comes amid a slugfest between the Grand Old Party and BJP over Rahul Gandhi’s “democracy under brutal attack in India” remarks in the UK and Germany taking note of Rahul’s disqualification from Lok Sabha. The BJP has accused the Congress of “inviting foreign powers” for interfering in India’s internal matters.

The prime minister was addressing a gathering at Rani Kamalapati railway station after flagging off the semi-high-speed Bhopal-Delhi Vande Bharat Express train.

    MS Education Academy

“There are some people in our country who have been determined since 2014, spoken publicly and declared their resolve that they will tarnish Modi’s image. For this, they have given ‘supari’ (contract) to various people.

“Some people are sitting inside the country to support these people and some are doing their work sitting outside the country. These people have been continuously trying to spoil and dent Modi’s image,” he said.

But India’s poor, the middle class, tribals, Dalits, backward classes and every Indian have become the security cover of Modi, which made these people furious forcing them to adopt new tricks, the prime minister said.

Modi said such people have taken a pledge that “Modi Teri Kabar Khudegi”.

Amidst their conspiracies, every countryman has to pay attention to the development of the country and pay attention to building the nation, he said.

Slamming Congress without taking its name, Modi said previous governments were busy with vote bank appeasement whereas his government is busy satisfying people.

“They (the previous governments) considered one family (a reference to the Gandhis) as the first family of the country. They ignored the poor and middle class, and the Railway is a living example of this (ignorance),” he said.

Modi said when he was informed about this programme (flagging off Vande Bharat express train from Bhopal), he asked why it is scheduled on April 1.

“I said Congress friends will say that Modi will make (people) April fool but the train is being run from April 1. This is a symbol of our confidence, capabilities and skills”, he said.

The prime minister said the average Railway budget for Madhya Pradesh used to be Rs 600 crore before 2014 but it has now gone to more than Rs 13,000 crore.

Modi said previous governments could have easily upgraded the already existing rail network which India acquired after Independence but the development of railways was sacrificed due to vested political interests.

Even after decades of independence, the Northeastern states had not been connected to the rail network. Indian Railway is a common family transport but why it was not upgraded and modernized earlier”? he asked.

“In a way, Vande Bharat is a symbol of India’s enthusiasm and excitement. It represents our skills, confidence and capabilities,” he said.

The prime minister also expressed deep grief over the stepwell roof collapse tragedy in a temple in Indore which killed 36 people and injured 16 on Ram Navami.

A fresh war of words erupted between BJP and the Opposition party after senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Thursday thanked the German foreign ministry and Richard Walker, Chief International Editor of Deutsche Welle, for “taking note of how the Democracy is being compromised in India through the persecution of Rahul Gandhi”.

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju had shared a screenshot of Digivijaya Singh’s tweet, saying, “Thank you Rahul Gandhi for inviting foreign powers for interference into India’s internal matters. Remember, Indian Judiciary can’t be influenced by foreign interference. India won’t tolerate ‘foreign influence’ anymore because our Prime Minister is:- Shri @narendramodi Ji”.

People in Pakistan unhappy, believe Partition was mistake, says RSS chief

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday said people of Pakistan were not happy after more than seven decades of Independence and they now believe the partition of India was a mistake.

He was speaking at a function to mark the birth anniversary of teen revolutionary Hemu Kalani, which was attended by Sindhis from different parts of the country.

“It was Bharat before 1947 (Partition). Those who broke off from Bharat, are they happy still? There is pain out there,” Bhagwat said in an apparent reference to Pakistan.

However, in a reference to the acrimonious relationship the two nations have now, Bhagwat underscored the fact that India did not belong to a culture that calls for attacks on others.

“I do not mean to say Bharat should attack Pakistan. Not at all. We don’t belong to that culture that calls for attack on others,” he said.

“We are from the culture that gives a befitting reply in self-defence,” Bhagwat said apparently referring to the surgical strikes on terror camps in that country, adding “we do it and we will keep doing it”.

“People of Pakistan are now saying the division of Bharat was a mistake. All are saying it was a mistake,” Bhagwat asserted.

Hailing the Sindhi community, most of who arrived here during Partition, Bhagwat said they had come “from that Bharat to this Bharat for the sake of your rich Sindhu culture and values”.

  • 348 people held during Amritpal crackdown freed, Punjab govt tells Akal Takht

348 people held during Amritpal crackdown freed, Punjab govt tells Akal Takht

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has informed the Akal Takht that 348 of the 360 people taken into preventive custody during a police crackdown against radical preacher Amritpal Singh have now been freed.

The Akal Takht Jathedar’s personal secretary Jaspal Singh on Thursday said a message was received from the state government that the rest would also be released soon.

Earlier this week, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh had given an ultimatum to the state government to release all Sikh youths held during the police crackdown against Amritpal Singh and his aides.

The Jathedar had also condemned the state government for invoking the National Security Act against a few people during the police crackdown.

A few days prior to the Jathedar’s ultimatum, the Punjab Police had said that out of those detained, nearly 30 were hardcore criminals. The rest would be released after verification, a senior police official had said.

Meanwhile, police have stepped up security in and around Amritsar and Bathinda amid reports that Amritpal Singh may surrender after entering any of the two Sikh shrines the Golden Temple in Amritsar or the Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Bathinda.

Vehicles are being checked at several places in other districts, including Hoshiarpur, in search of the head of ‘Waris Punjab De’.

Amritpal, who has been on the run since March 18 when the police crackdown was launched, appeared in a video on Wednesday.

In the undated clip, he urged the Akal Takht to summon a “sarbat khalsa” a congregation of Sikhs to discuss issues concerning the community.

The Punjab Police on Tuesday night launched a massive search operation in a Hoshiarpur village and many adjoining areas following inputs that radical preacher Amritpal Singh and his aides could be in the area.
