PDP will not remain silent about BJP’s onslaught on opposition parties: Mehbooba Mufti

    [ad_1]

Poonch: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said his party would not remain silent about the alleged onslaught of the BJP on the opposition parties in pursuit of its goal of “making India a BJP Rashtra”.

The former chief minister said the gloomy faces of the people speaks about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, where thousands of youths have been jailed and an atmosphere of fear has been created.

“I want to ask all political parties in the country to wake up as what happened to J&K (after 2019) is finally reaching their necks.

You preferred to remain silent or speak in a half-hearted manner but we will not remain silent and will fight not only for ourselves but for you as well,” Mehbooba said addressing a public meeting in the border district of Poonch.

The PDP leader, who is currently on a three-day tour of Pir Panjal region, said she was warning that BJP has turned J&K into a laboratory to experiment its policies before their implementation in other parts of the country.

“The opposition parties in the country did not understand what was happening to us. Today when the BJP is trampling democracy by jailing opposition leaders with the help of the Enforcement Directorate and CBI, they have started feeling the heat,” she later told reporters.

She said the abrogation of Article 370 was unconstitutional but majority of the leaders stayed silent. “I am of firm belief that we will get back Article 370 with interest. They will come and ask what else you want.”

Referring to the slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) on political leaders including her and two other former chief ministers, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba said J&K was turned into a jail and an atmosphere of fear was created to silence the people.

Mehbooba said they are not in favour of making India a “Hindu Rashtra” but their policies are aimed at making it a “BJP Rashtra” where everyone who aligns with them will be welcomed.

She also opposed the property tax and hiring of a previously black listed company by the J-K administration to fill vacancies in different government departments and said the youth are the worst sufferers of the policies of the administration.

The PDP chief said from Lt Governor to bureaucrats, everyone has been brought from outside and they (BJP) are claiming to install a chief minister from Jammu.

“Had they been serious, they would have installed a Lt Governor from Jammu or at least one of his advisors but they only believe in hoodwinking the public to get votes,” she said.

  • PDP Protests Against Property Tax Imposition

PDP Protests Against Property Tax Imposition

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday staged a protest march calling for the reversal of the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s decision to impose property tax in the Union Territory starting on April 1. The new tax rates will be 5% for residential properties and 6% for commercial properties.

Suhail Bukhari, the PDP’s chief spokesperson, and dozens of party members set out on a protest march from the PDP offices near Sher-e-Kashmir Park. The party activists shouted anti-property tax chants and called for its roll-back.

A police presence near the Traffic Headquarters prevented the protesters from continuing their march into the Lal Chowk city centre.  They later turned back and dispersed.

Addressing to reporters, Bukhari claimed that the government was attempting to erode the Jammu and Kashmiri people’s purchasing power.

“First, our political freedoms were taken away; next, democracy was buried here; last, the homes of the poor were destroyed and they were subjected to harassment.  The property tax is next. In the previous five years, Jammu and Kashmir’s economic position has gotten worse. The industrial sector here is weak, and there is no employment (creation),” he said.

As per the PDP’s chief spokesperson, the government should have held the people’s hands “but instead the BJP government is seeking to deepen the people’s concerns.”

He urged the government to roll back its decision.

Srinagar: The PDP on Saturday took out a protest march to demand roll-back of the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s decision to impose property tax in the Union Territory.

The Union Territory administration on Tuesday ordered the imposition of property tax in municipal areas from April 1. The tax rates will be five per cent of taxable annual value for residential properties and six per cent for commercial properties, it stated.

Dozens of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) activists led by Suhail Bukhari, its chief spokesperson, took out a protest march from the party headquarters near Sher-e-Kashmir Park here.

The party activists raised slogans against the imposition of the property tax and demanded its roll-back.

The protesters tried to march towards the Lal Chowk city centre but were stopped by a contingent of police near the Traffic Headquarters. They later turned back and dispersed.

Speaking to reporters, Bukhari alleged that the government was trying to economically weaken the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“First, our political rights were taken away, then democracy was buried here, poor people were harassed in the name of demolition and their houses bulldozed.

“Now the property tax. The economic situation in Jammu and Kashmir has become worse in the last five years. There is no employment (generation), industrial sector here is weak,” he said.

The PDP chief spokesperson said the administration should have held people’s hand “but, contrary to that, the BJP government is trying to further the troubles of the people”.

He demanded that the government roll back the decision.

Anti-Encroachment Drive: PDP On Streets, Seeks Halt In Bulldozer Policy

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) staged a symbolic protest march in Srinagar on Tuesday against the “bulldozer policy” initiated by Jammu and Kashmir administration.

The protesters included PDP second-rung leaders and activists who marched from the PDP office near Municipal Park towards traffic headquarters and raised slogans against BJP and LG administration.

They were carrying placards which read slogans like ‘Kashmir for Kashmiris’, ‘Stop ruling Jammu and Kashmir like a colony’, ‘Landless, jobless, homeless,’ ‘Stop bulldozing our homes.’

PDP leader Mohit Bhan alleged that the BJP government has been dispossessing the people of Jammu and Kashmir from their land and homes. He alleged that demolition exercise was being carried out through the arbitrary use of bulldozers to invent homelessness in Jammu and Kashmir.

In Delhi, they alleged the illegal housing settlements are being regularized while in Jammu and Kashmir, the land from natives is being snatched.

The protester alleged BJP government is using police to suppress them. They sought a quick halt to the bulldozer policy.

PDP delegation joins Rahul Gandhi in BJY in Jammu; highlights public issues

    [ad_1]

Jammu: A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delegation on Monday joined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra here and discussed various issues including the government’s eviction drive as well as demands of Kashmiri Pandit employees with him, a party leader said.

The PDP delegation, comprising several senior leaders, joined the foot march at Kunjwani bypass, shortly after the marchers led by Gandhi entered Jammu from adjoining Samba district in the afternoon, the leader said.

PDP’s provincial president, youth wing, Pervez Waffa and additional general secretary Rajinder Manhas walked alongside Gandhi towards Satwari chowk for 15 minutes and briefed him about various issues concerning the common people, he said.

He said they informed Gandhi about the eviction drive launched by the J-K administration to “snatch” the land from the people despite the fact that they are holding the property for generations.

The delegation also informed the Congress leader about the Prime Minister package Kashmiri pandit employees and Dogra employees who have been on strike in Jammu for the past over six months, seeking their relocation outside Kashmir following targeted killings.

Growing unemployment in J-K, inflation and economic distress also came up for discussion during the interaction, the PDP said leader.
